COMUNICADO DEL CNI-CIG Y EL EZLN ANTE EL COBARDE SECUESTRO Y ASESINATO DE LOS COMPAÑEROS DEL CONCEJO INDÍGENA Y POPULAR DE GUERRERO – EMILIANO ZAPATA.

El Congreso Nacional Indígena, el Concejo Indígena de Gobierno y el Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, con dolor e indignación, condenamos el secuestro y asesinato del compañero concejal nahua del Concejo Indígena de Gobierno José Lucio Bartolo Faustino y del delegado del Congreso Nacional Indígena Modesto Verales Sebastián, de las comunidades indígenas nahuas de Xicotlán y Buenavista respectivamente, ambos promotores del Concejo Indígena y Popular de Guerrero- Emiliano Zapata, organización miembro del CNI-CIG. Crimen cometido a manos de grupos narco paramilitares que operan en el municipio de Chilapa de Álvarez y que cuentan con la protección descarada del Ejército Federal Mexicano y las policías estatales y municipales.

El día de ayer 4 de mayo alrededor de las 15:00 horas, nuestros compañeros participaron en una reunión con otros miembros del CIPOG- EZ en la ciudad de Chilpancingo, Guerrero. En el camino de regreso a sus comunidades fueron secuestrados y asesinados por grupos narco paramilitares que operan en la región con la complicidad y protección de los tres niveles del mal gobierno, que con desprecio y mentiras simulan atender las demandas de seguridad y justicia de las comunidades indígenas, las cuales resistiendo, denunciaron reiteradamente ante el gobierno federal la impunidad con la que el criminal Celso Ortega lleva la violencia a sus comunidades. Es importante señalar que nuestros compañeros asesinados y sus comunidades llevan años organizando su Policía Comunitaria para resistir la violencia, la extorsión y la imposición de la siembra de la amapola por parte de dos grupos criminales, Los Ardillos y Los Rojos, quienes controlan las presidencias municipales de la región, cuentan con la complicidad del Ejército Mexicano y de las Policías estatales y municipales e incluso lograron imponer, en algún momento, a uno de sus líderes como presidente del Congreso del estado de Guerrero.

Responsabilizamos de este cobarde crimen a los tres niveles del mal gobierno por ser cómplices de la represión hacia la organización de los pueblos en la defensa de sus territorios; también los responzabilizamos de la seguridad e integridad de nuestros hermanos del CIPOG-EZ.

A los familiares y compañeros de José Lucio Bartolo Faustino y Modesto Verales Sebastián enviamos el abrazo solidario del Congreso Nacional Indígena-Concejo Indígena de Gobierno y de el Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, así como también nuestra convicción de seguir los caminos de autonomía y dignidad que ellos, nuestros compañeros que hoy nos faltan, nos señalan con su luz y su ejemplo.

Denunciamos la agudización de la represión neoliberal en contra de los pueblos, naciones y tribus originarias que no estamos de acuerdo con sus proyectos de muerte en Guerrero y en todo México, ni con la violencia de la que se sirven para imponerlos y reprimir, secuestrar, desaparecer y asesinar a los que decidimos sembrar un mundo nuevo desde las geografías indígenas que somos

Exigimos verdad y justicia para nuestros compañeros.

COMMUNIQUE FROM THE CNI-CIG AND THE EZLN ON THE COWARDLY KIDNAPPING AND MURDER OF COMPAÑEROS FROM THE EMILIANO ZAPATA POPULAR INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF GUERRERO

The National Indigenous Congress [CNI], the Indigenous Governing Council [CIG], and the Zapatista Army for National Liberation [EZLN] condemn with pain and rage the kidnapping and murders of José Lucio Bartolo Faustino, CIG council member from the Nahua indigenous community of Xicotlán, and Modesto Verales Sebastián, delegate of the National Indigenous Congress from the Nahua indigenous community of Buenavista. Both were part of the Emiliano Zapata Popular Indigenous Council of Guerrero [CIPOG-EZ], which is a member organization of the CNI-CIG. This crime was carried out by narco-paramilitary groups who operate in the municipality of Chilapa de Álvarez and who are protected by the Mexican Army as well as by municipal and state police.

At 3pm yesterday, May 4, our compañeros were attending a meeting with other members of the CIPOG-EZ in Chilpancingo, Guerrero. On their way back to their communities they were kidnapped and murdered by these narco-paramilitary groups which operate with total complicity and protection from all three levels of the bad government, which pretend to address the indigenous communities’ demands for security and justice. The indigenous communities have repeatedly denounced to the federal government the impunity with which the criminal Celso Ortega wages violence against them. It is important to mention that our murdered compañeros and their communities have for years been organizing their own Community Police in order to resist the violence, extortion, and poppy cultivation imposed by two criminal groups in the area, Los Ardillos and Los Rojos. These two groups control municipal presidencies across the region and are protected by the Mexican army and the municipal and state police. At one point they even managed to get one of their leaders named president of the Guerrero State Congress.

We hold all three levels of bad government responsible for this cowardly crime as they have been complicit in repressing our peoples’ organization in defense of their territories. We also hold the bad government responsible for the safety and security of our brothers and sisters of the CIPOG-EZ.

As the National Indigenous Congress-Indigenous Governing Council and the Zapatista Army for National Liberation, we send our collective embrace and solidarity to the family members and compañeros of José Lucio Bartolo Faustino and Modesto Verales Sebastián, and we share with them our commitment to continue this path of autonomy and dignity for which our fallen compañeros provide a light and an example.

We denounce the intensification of neoliberal repression against the originary peoples, nations, and tribes who do not consent to these projects of death in Guerrero and in all of Mexico, nor to the violence which is used to impose these projects and to repress, kidnap, disappear, and murder those of us who have decided to sow a new world from the indigenous geographies that we are.

We demand justice for our compañeros.
