El Pasaporte Zapatista.
(Hasta pronto Portugal, ahí vamos Galicia).

Junio del 2021.

El 12 de junio del 2021, el llamado “Escuadrón 421”, y demás pasajeros y tripulación, recibieron en sus pasaportes el sello de entrada legal al llamado espacio o zona Schengen y desembarcaron en Horta, Islas Azores, Portugal, Europa.  Sin perder la gracia y la elegancia (es un decir), bajaron de La Montaña.  Como debe de ser, hubo azoro, baile, fotos y un atracón de comida.  Marijose se encontró con una vieja profecía que anunciaba su llegada.  Y se realizó una carrera (es un decir), tipo “el que llegue al último paga la comida” (Diego Osorno perdió).  Se brindó por la vida, claro.

A las 09:17:45 del 14 de junio del año en curso, La Montaña se despegó del abrazo portugués y tomó dirección noreste a una velocidad de entre 6 y 7 nudos.  A las 12:30:06 rebasó por la izquierda el “Pico Das Urzes”.  Latitud: 38.805213; longitud: -28.343418.  El capitán Ludwig calcula avistar las costas de la península Ibérica, entre el 19 y el 20 de junio (aunque podría ser antes, porque La Montaña, reconciliada con el viento, parece apresurada en abrazar a sus hermanas portuguesas y gallegas).  De esa fecha en adelante, se saludarán las elevaciones en las islas de San Martino, Monte Faro y Monte Agudo.  Luego se entrará a la “Ría de Vigo”.  Se prevé llegar a la Marina Punta Lagoa, al norte del puerto de Vigo, Galicia, Estado Español.

Entonces, en silencio, lluvia hermana será la montaña nuestra, húmeda se tornará nuestra mirada, y así diremos sin palabras:

Ahora permítame contarle de la documentación zapatista que lleva el Escuadrón 421 (que a estas horas ya podría agregar “marítimo” a su flamante nombre).  L@s compañer@s llevan un pasaporte zapatista.  Quiero decir, además del pasaporte oficial de México, llevan el llamado “pasaporte zapatista de trabajo”.  Aquí se los describo:

En la portada o tapa principal: un caracol con una estrella roja dentro. Y el letrero: “pasaporte zapatista de trabajo”. En la contra portada o tapa trasera: una estrella roja con un caracol dentro.

En la primera página se lee: “Este pasaporte es otorgado por las autoridades civiles autónomas de los Municipios Autónomos Rebeldes Zapatistas y las Juntas de Buen Gobierno, Chiapas, México.  Sólo es válido durante el período establecido y en el lugar descrito.  Este documento consta de 32 páginas y no es válido si presenta deterioro, cortes, tachaduras y enmiendas”.

En las páginas 2 y 3 hay espacios para: foto del titular, sus datos personales, datos de la Junta de Buen Gobierno y MAREZ que expiden el documento.  Trabajo que va a desempeñar.  La fecha de expedición y el calendario y geografía donde va a cumplir el trabajo.  Lugar para sello de MAREZ y de JBG.

En las páginas 4 y 5. Se establecen las siguientes 7 limitantes:

“1.- El, loa o la titular de este pasaporte no puede ni debe pedir ni recibir apoyos en moneda o especie para su beneficio propio o de su familia, más allá de los estrictamente necesarios para cumplir con el trabajo que se le ha encomendado.

2.- La, loa o el titular de este pasaporte sólo podrá hacer el trabajo que se específica en este mismo documento.

3.- Loa, el o la titular de este documento tiene prohibida la portación y uso de armas de fuego de cualquier tipo, y no puede ni proponer, ni sugerir, ni alentar cualquier actividad que implique, o derive en, el uso de armas de fuego en el lugar donde haga su trabajo.

4.- La, loa o el titular de este documento sólo puede contar de nuestra historia de resistencia y rebeldía como pueblos originarios y como zapatistas, previa preparación y capacitación para ello.

5.- El, loa o la titular de este documento no puede establecer acuerdos o desacuerdos a nombre de las estructuras organizativas y/o de mando político-militar con personas, grupos, colectivos, movimientos y organizaciones, más allá de lo estrictamente necesario para el cumplimiento del trabajo que se le ha encomendado.

6.- Las opiniones personales sobre asuntos públicos y privados que exprese loa, el o la titular de este documento, no sólo no reflejan las posiciones zapatistas, también pueden ser completamente contrarias a nuestro pensamiento y práctica.

7.- La, el o loa titular de este documento deberá conducirse en todo momento respetando las diferencias de identidad, sexo, credo, lengua, cultura e historia, de las personas y lugares donde realice el trabajo para el que se expide el presente documento.

En la página 6 se establece: “Se acredita que la, loa o el titular de este documento recibió curso de capacitación (si aprendió o no, ahí se va a ver en los hechos) en__ (espacio para poner el nombre del lugar)”.

Y la página 7 indica las fechas de salida y llegada: “La, loa o el titular de este documento salió de territorio zapatista __ (espacio para detalles y sellos en media página)”.  La mitad de abajo de la página: “La, loa o el titular de este documento regresó a territorio zapatista: ___ (espacio para detalles y sellos)”

Las páginas subsiguientes están en blanco, para que las diferentes personas, grupos, colectivos, organizaciones y movimientos, de los distintos rincones de los disímiles mundos que se visiten, sellen, firmen, adornen, huellen, pongan dibujos, rayen o lo que sea para que el, la o loa compa tenga una especie de guía de dónde estuvo, además de los apuntes en su cuaderno, cuando regrese y platique cómo le fue.

La última página es para “Observaciones:” (por ejemplo alguna alergia, discapacidad o gustos musicales –digo, porque si le gusta la cumbia y le ponen a bailar un vals, pues ya se imaginarán-).

Doy fe.

The Zapatista Passport
(See you soon, Portugal; Galicia, here we come).

June of 2021.

On June 12th, 2021, the 421st Squadron, as well as the rest of the passengers and crew, had their passports stamped for legal entry into the space or zone known as Schengen and disembarked in Horta, Azores Islands, Portugal, Europe. Gracefully and without losing their composure (so to speak), they debarked from La Montaña [the Mountain]. As it should be, there was a frenzy of dancing, photos, and feasting. Marijose discovered an old prophecy that predicted their arrival. And they played that so-called “game” of the kind where “last one off pays for the food” (Diego Osorno lost). There was a toast to life, of course.

At 9:17:45am on June 14th of the current year, La Montaña pulled away from the Portuguese embrace and turned to the northeast at a speed of between 6 and 7 knots. At 12:30:06pm, the ship passed “Pico das Urzes” on the left. Latitude: 38.805213; longitude: -28.343418. Captain Ludwig planned to catch sight of the coast of the Iberian Peninsula somewhere around June 19th or 20th (although it could be sooner, as La Montaña, having reconciled with the wind, seemed eager to embrace her Portuguese and Galician sisters). From that date on, it will greet the rising waters of the San Martino, Monte Faro, and Monte Agudo Islands, and then enter Vigo Bay, planning to arrive at the Marina Punta Lagoa, north of the Port of Vigo, Galicia, Spanish State.

Then, in silence, with sisterly rains as our mountain, wetting our gazes, and we will say without words:

  Now let me tell you about the Zapatista documentation carried by the 421st Squadron (at this point we can add “maritime” to their splendid new name). The compañer@s carry a Zapatista passport. That is, in addition to the official Mexican passport, they carry a so-called “Zapatista work passport.” I’ll describe it here:

On the cover or the front: a caracol [snail] with a red star inside and the words: “Zapatista work passport.” On the opposite cover or the back: a red star with a caracol [spiral] inside.

The first page reads: “This passport is granted by the autonomous civilian authorities of the Zapatista Autonomous Municipalities in Rebellion [MAREZ]and the Good Government Councils [Juntas de Buen Gobierno, or JBG], Chiapas, Mexico. Valid only during the stated time and in the specified place. This document consists of 32 pages and is not valid if presented with any damage, tears, erasures, or amendments.”

On pages 2 and 3 there are spaces for: passport holder’s photo, their personal information, information on the Good Government Council and MAREZ that issued the document, the work the passport holder is going to do, the date of the expedition and the calendar and geography where they are going to complete the work, and a place for the stamp from the MAREZ and JBG.

Pages 4 and 5 set the following 7 restrictions:

“1.-The [el, loa, or la] holder of this passport cannot and should not receive nor request support in currency or in kind for their own benefit or the benefit of their family, beyond the strict necessities required to complete the work entrusted to them.

2.- The holder of this passport can only do the work specified in this document.

3.- The holder of this document is prohibited from carrying or using firearms of any type, and may not, in the place where they do their work, propose, suggest, or encourage any activity that implies, or results in, the use of firearms.

4.- The holder of this document can only tell our story of resistance and rebellion as original peoples and as Zapatistas after prior preparation and training to do so.

5.- The holder of this document cannot establish agreements or disagreements in the name of the organizational structures and/or the [EZLN] political-military leadership with people, groups, collectives, movements, and organizations, beyond what is strictly necessary to complete the work entrusted to them.

6.- Personal opinions about public and private affairs expressed by the holder of this document not only do not reflect Zapatistas positions, but can also be completely contrary to our thought and practice.

7.- The holder of this document must conduct themselves at all times with respect for the differences of identity, sex, creed, language, culture, and history of the people and places where they carry out the work for which they have been issued this document.

Page 6 states: “It is asserted that the holder of this document completed a training course (what they learned or not remains to be seen in their actions) in _______ (space to fill in the name of the place).”

Page 7 indicates the departure and arrival dates: “The holder of this document left Zapatista territory _____ (space to fill in details and stamps on half the page).” The bottom half of the page: “The holder of this document returned to the Zapatista territory: _____ (space to fill in details and stamps).”

The subsequent pages are blank, so that the different people, groups, collectives, organizations, and movements from the distinct corners of the various worlds that they visit can stamp, sign, adorn, fingerprint, draw on, scribble on, or whatever so that the compa has a kind of guide of as to where they were, in addition to the notes in their journal, when they return and talk about how it went.

The last page is for “Observations:” (for example any allergy, disability, or musical preference – I mean, because if someone likes cumbia and they make them dance a waltz, well you can imagine).
