Quizás con esta continuación de nuestra explicación de lo que es el arma pues para nosotros, que es la resistencia y la rebeldía, quizás les va a dar de entender algunas cosas de lo que platicaron acá nuestros compas que estamos aquí en la mesa.

Es que en nuestra resistencia y rebeldía hemos llegado a entender que esa resistencia y esa rebeldía que tenemos, que las ponemos en la práctica, constantemente nos hace, nos dice que no vamos a permitir y vamos a forzarnos por luchar para que no vuelva, para que no pase lo que pasó en 1910, porque la muerte de muchos de nuestros compatriotas mexicanos, mexicanas, ¿quién aprovechó eso?

Perhaps by continuing our explanation of how resistance and rebellion are weapons for us you will better understand some of the things that our compañeros and compañeras here at the table have talked about.

Through our resistance and rebellion, we have come to understand that by putting resistance and rebellion into practice we confirm that we will not allow in our struggle what happened in 1910, when so many of our fellow Mexicans died. Who took advantage of that situation?

Entonces nosotros tenemos que ir a pasarlo de castilla a tzeltal, tojolabal, tzotzil, chol, entonces va a venir la respuesta común, porque sí hay cosas que sí nos interesa discutirla de cómo plantearon los compañeros en esta mesa que estamos ahorita.

Seguimos con nuestras palabras de la explicación, plática, sobre lo que es nuestra resistencia y rebeldía para nosotros como zapatistas.

Para nosotros como organización que resistimos y hacemos la lucha pues de la rebeldía, es que primero eso tenemos que tener claridad por qué vas a hacer la resistencia y su rebeldía. Si no tenemos claridad ¿por qué?, ¿para qué?, ¿de qué?, simplemente uno no camina.

It seems like a splash of cold water on our faces was indeed what we needed, because now we are definitely getting some thought-provoking ideas.

So we will need to translate this from Spanish to Tzeltal, Tojolabal, Tzotzil, and Chol, and from there a joint response will arise, because there are some things proposed by the compañeros at this table that we are interested in discussing.

We continue with our words of explanation and discussion on what resistance and rebellion mean to us as Zapatistas.

For us, as an organization that resists and struggles in rebellion, we first need to be clear on why one would resist and rebel. If we are not clear on the “Why?” the “For what?” and the “From what?” we simply cannot go forward.

Les voy a compartir sobre el cómo es que nosotros, nosotras, la tenemos como nuestras armas la resistencia y la rebeldía.

Antes de empezar eso, el cómo es que hacemos la resistencia y la rebeldía, les quiero recordarles que nosotros somos armados. Ahí tenemos nuestras armas, como una herramienta más en la lucha, así lo decimos ahora. Nuestras armas es una herramienta de lucha, es como machete, hacha, martillo, pico, pala, azadones, esas cosas; porque cada herramienta tiene su función, pero el arma, su función es, si las usas, es que matas.

Good afternoon, compañeros, compañeras, brothers and sisters.

I am going to talk to you about how our resistance and rebellion are our weapons.

Before we begin talking about resistance and rebellion, I want to remind you that we are an armed group. We have our weapons, as one more tool in the struggle, that’s how we explain it now. Our weapons are a tool of struggle, just like the machete, axe, hammer, pick, shovel, hoe, and other such things. Each of these tools has its function, but the function of a weapon, well, if you use it, you kill.

So in the beginning, when we rose up at the dawn of the year 1994, a movement of thousands of Mexicans from all over the country emerged, grew to millions, and pressured the government, the baldy—that’s what we call him, Salinas the baldy—to sit down and dialogue with us, and at the same time urged us to sit down to dialogue and negotiate.

We understood the call of the people of Mexico. So we gave the order to retreat from violent struggle. It was then that we discovered, through the compañeras—because in combat our people died—but the compañeras were developing what we might call another way to struggle. Because the government, a month later, a year, two years later, wanted to buy us off, as we put it, they wanted us to accept aid and forget about struggle.

Buenas tardes a todos, compañeras, compañeros, hermanos y hermanas.

Según lo que estamos explicando desde ayer, antier, estábamos comentando con la comisión de compañeros y compañeras del CCRI, que nos parece que ahí va en lo que queremos hacer, y la pregunta, porque todos los que estábamos acá, si no estábamos soñando o durmiendo entonces la tenemos en la cabeza lo que ya se dijo, o lo que ya plantearon, platicaron, los compas, hermanos. Muchas cosas ya lo que nos dijeron de lo que es la hidra, ¿qué tenemos que hacer contra eso?

Organizarnos. Cuando vamos a dar esa respuesta, organizarnos, quiere decir que nuestro cerebro ya nos está diciendo qué es lo que hay que hacer primero, luego el segundo, luego el tercero, el cuarto y así sigues. Entonces eso está en idea, cuando está en el cerebro está en idea. Ahora, cuando mueves tu lengua ya está en palabra. Falta la acción, o sea la de organizarse. Y ya cuando estás organizándose, cuidado, porque ahí no va a salir tal cual como está dicho en la idea, en la palabra. Ahí te vas a empezar a tener muchos topes, muchas dificultades.

Good afternoon to everyone, compañeras, compañeros, brothers and sisters.

In response to what we have been listening to yesterday, and the day before, we have been commenting in the commission of compañeros and compañeras of the CCRI, that it seems to us that you can see there what it is that we want to do. This is the reason all of us are here, and if we haven’t been dreaming or sleeping, then we are thinking about the things that we have discussed, what the compas and brothers and sisters already brought up and talked about. They have already told us a lot about what this hydra is. So the question is what do we need to do against it?

Organize ourselves. When we give this response, organize ourselves, it means that our brain is already telling us what must be done first, and then second, and third, and fourth, and so on. And so, it’s an idea, when it is in your head it is an idea. Now, when you move your tongue, then it is in your words. What is still missing is action, that is, to organize. Now when you are organizing yourselves, watch out, because it isn’t going to come out like you thought in the idea, or like you said in the word. You are going to begin to encounter a lot of barriers, a lot of challenges.

Lo que les voy a platicar, platicado, no leído, es sobre cómo era y cómo es la economía desde las comunidades, del capitalismo pues. Les voy a hablar de hace 30 años y de hace 20 años y unos pocos años de ahora. Les voy a platicar en tres partes: cómo viven las comunidades desde antes, de hace 30 años; cómo viven ahora los que no están organizados como zapatistas y luego cómo vivimos nosotros, nosotras como zapatistas de ahora.

No quiere decir que entonces no sabemos los demás siglos pasados, lo sabemos. Lo que queremos marcar de acá, porque nosotros tenemos 30 años, desde el 83, el año de 1983 cuando llega el grupo de compañeros, a partir de ahí hasta ahora tenemos 30 años.

What I’m going to talk to you about—not read to you—has to do with what the economy was like and is like in the communities, that is, I’m going to talk to you about capitalism. I’m going to talk to you about how it was 30 years ago, 20 years ago, and in these past few years. I’m going to speak to you about this in three parts: how the communities lived before, 30 years ago; how those who are not organized as Zapatistas live today; and then about how we live, we the Zapatistas of today.

This isn’t to say that we don’t know how it was centuries ago; we do know. But we want to demarcate things from here because we are 30 years old—starting from ’83, the year 1983 when the group of compañeros arrived, and so from that date to now, we are 30 years old.

En estos días, como de por sí cada que hay esa cosa que llaman “proceso electoral”, escuchamos y miramos que salen con que el EZLN llama a la abstención, o sea que el EZLN dice que no hay que votar. Eso y otras tonterías dicen, que de balde tienen cabeza grande, que ni estudian siquiera la historia, ni siquiera buscan. Y eso que hasta hacen libros de historia y biografías y cobran por esos libros. O sea que cobran por decir mentiras. Como los políticos.

Claro que ustedes lo saben que a nosotr@s ni nos interesan esas cosas que hacen los de arriba para tratar de convencer a la gente de abajo de que la toman en cuenta.

These days, every time that this thing they call the “electoral process” happens, we hear and see the stuff that comes out saying that the EZLN calls for abstention, that the EZLN says that people shouldn’t vote. They say this and other idiocies, these big-headed people who don’t study history or even try to understand. And they even put these absurdities into history books and biographies, and then charge for them. That is to say, they charge for these lies. Like politicians.

Of course, you know that we’re not interested in these things that those above make up in order to try to convince those below that they’re concerned about them.

Buenos días a todos, compañeros y compañeras de esta zona, de este Caracol La Realidad, zona Selva Fronteriza.

Hoy estamos aquí con ustedes, compañeros, compañeras de esta zona, precisamente para hacerles entrega en su mano de los compañeros y compañeras bases de apoyo de esta comunidad zapatista La Realidad, Nueva Victoria, como se llama en la lucha con nosotros como Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional.

Compañeros y compañeras, lo que tenemos que dejar claro y lo que tenemos que entender, es que nos sigue siendo el dolor que lo tenemos cada uno de todos nosotros, nosotras las zapatistas; pero no nada más las zapatistas de México sino en el mundo porque nos falta un compañero, que su nombre lleva esta construcción: el compañero Galeano.

PRIMERA PARTE: habla el sup Galeano

Un templete inesperado

Es mediodía de la noche de la segunda súper luna de verano. En el caracol zapatista de La Realidad, Chiapas, se congregan algunas decenas de personas un día después de concluida la compartición entre el Congreso Nacional Indígena (CNI) y el Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN), donde se honró la memoria de David Ruiz García durante una semana. Está por cumplirse un año del arranque de ese enorme proyecto formativo que las comunidades zapatistas llamaron “escuelita”. Nadie imaginaba entonces que un año después tendría que reconstruirse otra escuelita despedazada por paramilitares. Es domingo 10 de agosto de 2014. Fuera de La Realidad, los ecos de Hiroshima y Nagasaki resuenan en Gaza, Ucrania, Siria, Líbano, Irak o Afganistán. Dentro del caracol sigue gritando en silencio la indignación por el asesinato de José Luis Solís López, compañero y maestro Galeano.
