We hereby denounce the assault, repression, and kidnapping of eleven members of the National Indigenous Congress (CNI) from the communities of San Antonio Bulujib and Guaquitepec in the municipality of Chilón, Chiapas, on February 23 at 5:00pm by the ejidal authorities of San Antonio Bulujib who belong to the “CHINCHULINES” and “ORCAO” paramilitary groups, and by MORENA party members in the region. This attack was carried out in retaliation for the CNI members’ participation in the “Days of Action in Defense of Territory and Mother Earth ‘We Are All Samir’”, convoked by the Zapatista Army for National Liberation and the CNI, in this case for having hung a sign regarding the event at the town entrance of San Antonio Bulujib. The names of those attacked are: María Cruz Espinoza, Juana Pérez Espinoza, Feliz López Pérez, María Cruz Gómez, Ana Gómez Hernández, Alejandra Gómez, María Luisa Pérez Gómez (one year old), María del Rosario Mazariegos Gómez (11 months old), Manuel Cruz Espinoza, Juan Gómez Núñez, and Isidro Pérez Cruz.

After being held for 24 hours, our CNI compañeros and compañeras were released at 8:30 pm on February 24, under the following conditions imposed by San Antonio Bulujib ejidal authorities: that the eleven CNI members pay a fine of 2500 pesos along with 15 cases of soft drinks and renounce their CNI membership if they wanted to remain in the community. Our compañeros and compañeras were threatened with eviction from their lands and houses if they didn’t pay the fine by Sunday, March 1, 2020, on which date their lands and houses would be sold and they would be locked up in the town jail.

We hold all three levels of government as well as the paramilitary groups organized in our communities responsible for anything that happens to our compañeros and compañeras. We specifically hold responsible the president of Mexico ANDRÉS MANUEL LÓPEZ OBRADOR, the governor of Chiapas, RUTILIO ESCANDÓN, the San Antonio Bulujib ejidal authority, MIGUEL LÓPEZ GUZMÁN, the community’s Security Deputy, MATEO GÓMEZ MÉNDEZ, who is also a member of the ORCAO and CHINCHULINES organizations, the Municipal Auxiliary Agent JUAN SILVANO MORENO and his assistant MANUEL GÓMEZ PÉREZ, and JOSÉ PÉREZ, supposed leader of ORCAO who supports and promotes the paramilitaries who invade community lands and are protected by the bad governments at the federal, state, and municipal levels. It is in the name of the supposed Fourth Transformation that these people have threatened the safety and lives of the eleven CNI compañeros and compañeras named above, as well as that of other CNI families.

We call on all of the communities, organizations, and collectives in Chiapas, Mexico, and the world who participated in the “Days of Action in Defense of Territory and Mother Earth ‘We Are All Samir’” for their solidarity and support for our CNI sisters and brothers in Chilón.

The Red Sexta Grietas del Norte invites you to the Sexta Encuentro in the U.S., “In, Against, and Beyond the Capitalist Hydra”, from where, we all know, the wheels of destruction churn towards every corner of the world.

Now more than ever it is necessary to organize collectively and, following the call of the EZLN, “to begin or continue our analysis and evaluation of the reality in which we live and to share with each other these analyses and evaluations as well as our subsequent proposals for coordinated action,” so that we may take action accordingly in our respective trincheras.

This call is for all the compañerxs who struggle and resist capitalist exploitation and patriarchal oppression within the U.S, especially to the adherents of the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and those who identify with the Zapatista struggle and thought, as well as with the peoples of the National Indigenous Congress (CNI).

The times we are living demand that we collectively understand the changes in contemporary capitalism as a whole and what they look like in our own contexts. We propose working towards recovering our histories, traditions, and understanding our past and current struggles so we can envision and create autonomies constructed from our respective and collective analyses.

The Encuentro’s purpose is to find each other, to share our pains, our ways of confronting this civilization of death, and build and strengthen our autonomies. It is to share the paths we can walk together against and beyond the Hydra and to work together in solidarity with the communities in struggle in Chiapas, in Mexico, and the world. Furthermore, it is to organize a resistance against the multi-headed capitalist Hydra that destroys Mother Earth and attacks Indigenous communities. Our aim is to facilitate the development of collective knowledges and responses, outside Western cartographies and calendars against the powers that seek to repress all communities of resistance and that displace millions of people worldwide.

The Encuentro will consist of a two day gathering in Oakland, California, on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8, 2020. It will consist of panels, dialogue circles, and conversatorios on key questions, including but not limited to the following:

Meras declaraciones de uso de piedras y bombas molotov en una manifestación, no pueden implicar prisión preventiva oficiosa: Es clara la criminalización.

A nuestro compañero Miguel López Vega, representante comunitario de Santa María Zacatepec, comunicador popular de la Radio Comunitaria Zacatepec y concejal del Concejo Indígena de Gobierno del CNI, tras ser detenido de manera injusta, le fue negado su derecho a llevar el proceso en libertad el pasado 25 de enero de 2020 bajo el pretexto que los hechos constitutivos de delitos son graves por el posible uso de armas y explosivos.
Este criterio aplicado a Miguel, es un antecedente y riesgo mayor a cualquier persona que en Puebla o México acuda a una manifestación y en ella, exista un vehículo quemado, que implique que, con la simple declaración de funcionarios públicos que dicen haber visto a la persona arrojando una bomba molotov o piedras, para el ministerio público y el juez son datos de prueba suficientes para acreditar como ciertos los hechos de que la persona, pudo cometer uno de los delitos mas graves de México, como lo es el uso de armas y explosivos, y entonces ser recluido en prisión oficiosa. Es decir que, cualquier persona, al encontrarse en una manifestación o pasando por allí, si dos testigos que tienen interés en encarcelarla, la acusan de aventar piedras y haberla visto aventando una bomba molotov para quemar un vehículo (siendo en muchos casos el mismo gobierno y provocadores los que queman los vehículos), hechos suficientes para que la persona se quede en la cárcel, sin derecho a fianza y una debida defensa en libertad. Dos declaraciones con conflictos de intereses son los únicos datos de prueba que justifican injustamente la prisión oficiosa del defensor del territorio.
Del mismo modo a Miguel se le criminaliza por realizar sus funciones de Representante Comunitario de Santa María Zacatepec, pues al declarar en la audiencia que el motivo de su presencia el 30 de octubre de 2019, era realizar sus funciones como representante comunitario del pueblo, para pedir a las empresas que estaban trabajando en su territorio, los permisos que avalen la viabilidad técnica y ambiental de la obra, ello, son declaraciones para el Ministerio Público que precisamente lo inculpan, por aceptar que estaba en el lugar de los hechos y que es líder de un grupo de personas. Siendo que Miguel explicó que acudió, porque la población se niega a la contaminación del Río Metlapanapa que forma parte de la comunidad y que Miguel, como representante comunitario, tiene la obligación de vigilar y proteger su territorio y representar a su comunidad en esos asuntos, tal como lo establece su sistema de usos y costumbres sobre dicho cargo, pero que no cometió ningún hecho ilícito, ni acción para parar la obra. Criminalizando el sistema de usos y costumbres de Santa María Zacatepec.
Estos son algunos de los datos legales, que demuestran la injusticia cometida contra Miguel y que legitiman el justo enojo del pueblo de Santa María Zacatepec que exige su inmediata liberación.
