Agradecemos de todo corazón que nos hayan dado su palabra.

Sabemos que para poder traernos esa palabra directa, sin intermediarios, sin interpretaciones ajenas, tuvieron que viajar muchas horas y padecer cansancio, hambre, sueño.

Sabemos también que para ustedes ese sacrificio es parte del deber que sienten.

El deber de no abandonar a los compañeros desaparecidos por los malos gobiernos, de no venderlos, de no olvidarlos.

Por ese deber es que iniciaron su lucha aun cuando no se les hacía el menor caso y los hermanos hoy desaparecidos eran catalogados como “pelones”, “novatos”, “revoltosos”, “futuros delincuentes que se lo merecían”, “porros”, “radicales”, “nacos”, “agitadores”.

Brothers and Sisters:

We thank you with all our heart for sharing your word with us.

We know that in order to bring us your word directly, without intermediaries or outside interpretations, you had to travel many hours and endure fatigue, hunger, and exhaustion.

We also know that for you this sacrifice is part of the duty that you feel.

It is the duty to not abandon the compañeros disappeared by the bad governments, to not sell them out, to not forget them.

It is because of this duty that you began your struggle, even when no one was paying any attention and the disappeared brothers were being called “amateurs”, “rabble rousers” “future delinquents who deserved what they got,” “agent provocateurs,” radicals,” “hicks,” and “agitators.”

Por eso nosotros queremos que nos hablen y nosotros les queremos escuchar.

Si nos hubieran avisado unos días antes, los que los estuviéramos recibiendo y escuchando sería mucho más grande que los que hoy los estamos recibiendo, como no se imaginan.

Esta representación que hoy nos encontramos aquí, los estamos recibiendo con todo el corazón para escucharles su dolor y su rabia.

To the students and to all of those accompanying this caravan, and everyone gathered here.

In the name of the boys, girls, young people, men, women, and elderly of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation, we welcome you to this Caracol of Oventik, Caracol II, Resistance and Rebellion for Humanity.

Compañeras and Compañeros:

We the Zapatista Army for National Liberation want to hear your words of pain and rage, which we share.

We are not concerned with whether municipal presidencies are burning, nor with how many cars, doors, or palaces have been burnt.

What we want to hear is your pain, your rage, and the angst that comes from not knowing where your young students might be.

We also want to tell you that we Zapatisas have been accompanying you in the protests and mobilizations that have been held in Mexico and in the world. Though our acts of pain and rage do not appear in the paid media, we want you know that we have joined you with real and true actions.

This is why we want you to speak to us, and why we want to listen to you.

If we had known a few days earlier that you were coming, there would have been many of us here to greet and listen to you, many more than are here now. You can’t imagine the number of people who would have come.

Those of us who serve as representatives here today receive you with all of our hearts to listen to your pain and your rage.

In the name of our thousands of compañero and compañera bases of support from the Zapatista Army for National Liberation, we warmly welcome you to this humble center Caracol II of Oventik, Resistance and Rebellion for Humanity, in the Highlands Zone of Chiapas, Mexico.

Those of us present here are representatives of our Zapatista communities, and we receive you with open arms in order to listen to your words.

Know that you are not alone! That your pain is our pain! That your rage is our dignified rage! And that with our actions we support the demand that the 43 students, disappeared by the bad governments’ criminal acts, be returned alive. No bastándoles con haber arrasado los bosques, los malos gobiernos de Enrique Peña Nieto y Eruviel Ávila Villegas han secuestrado a nuestras hermanas Felipa Gutiérrez Petra (67 años), Rosa Saavedra Mendoza (54 años), Francisca Reyes Flores (28 años) y a nuestros hermanos Armando García Salazar (50 años), Venancio Hernández Ramírez (57 años), Domingo Hernández Ramírez (57 años), Mauricio Reyes Flores (28 años) y Jerónimo Flores Arcelino (73 años).

A los de arriba les advertimos, por si se les había olvidado, que como pueblos y comunidades que hemos caminado una larga resistencia en la defensa de lo que somos, fuimos y seremos, no nos cansaremos de sembrar rebeldía donde ellos corten las flores, los encinos, los oyameles; de levantar resistencia donde ellos impongan maquinaria de destrucción.

Today once again, our brothers and sisters of the Ñatho Indigenous Community of San Francisco Xochicuautla have defended their territory against the destruction and voracious ambition of those above who want to impose their highway project at any cost and in violation of Mexican and international law.

Una vez más el dolor e indignación de los pueblos en rebeldía y resistencia que conformamos el Congreso Nacional Indígena unimos nuestras voces, rabia y dolor, ahora por nuestros espejos de la Comunidad Indígena Ñatho de San Francisco Xochicuautla y por los defensores del Agua de la Tribu Yaqui.

Nuestros hermanos y hermanas de Xochicuautla han defendido su bosque, oponiéndose a la construcción de la autopista privada Toluca-Naucalpan, porque saben que de sus árboles, de sus montañas, de sus venas de agua surge la vida. Han ganado un amparo que prohíbe los trabajos en sus tierras comunales y desde el 8 de octubre de este año, trabajadores de la empresa custodiados por grupos tácticos de la secretaria de seguridad ciudadana del Estado de México han estado invadiendo esas tierras, cortando cientos de árboles, porque a los malos gobiernos no les importa si los de abajo usamos sus leyes para defendernos, de por sí las rompen con tal de destruirnos, porque para eso las construyen.

Once more we express our pain and rage as the peoples in rebellion and resistance who make up the National Indigenous Congress. We unite our voices, our rage, and our pain in response to what is happening in the Ñatho Indigenous Community of San Francisco Xochicuautla and to the members of the Yaqui Tribe who are defending their water source.

Our brothers and sisters of Xochicuautla have defended their forests against the construction of the private highway between Toluca and Naucalpan, because they know that life itself emerges from these trees, mountains, and waters. They were granted legal protection prohibiting this work on communal lands, but since October 8 of this year, workers from the construction company under the protection of public “Citizen Security” Forces of the State of Mexico have been invading their lands and cutting down hundreds of trees. The bad government doesn’t care if we below use their laws to defend ourselves; they break those laws themselves in order to destroy us. They made them for the same reason.

La desaparición de los 43 compañeros estudiantes de la Normal Rural Isidro Burgos de Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, secuestrados- desaparecidos por los Malos Gobiernos, imponen una penumbra de luto, de zozobra y de rabia. La esperanza por la aparición de los compañeros es el dolor que nos une y es la rabia que se hace la luz de la veladora que se moviliza por todo el país llevando un grito de dignidad y de rebeldía en el México de Abajo.

From our peoples in struggle, from within our resistance and rebellion, we send our words as a reflection of this part of the country that we have constitute and call the National Indigenous Congress. We are gathered by the pain and the rage that call to us because it is a pain and rage that we share.

The disappearance of the 43 student compañeros of the Normal Rural Isidro Burgos of Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, kidnapped and disappeared by the Bad Governments, imposes upon us a shadow of mourning, angst, and rage. Our hope for the reappearance of the compañeros is also the pain that unites us; our rage illuminates the candles that today light the way of mobilizations all over the country, raising the cry of dignity and rebellion in Mexico below.

“Exigimos la cancelación inmediata de las órdenes de aprehensión y de la fabricación de delitos en contra de integrantes de la tribu yaqui y condenamos la criminalización de su lucha, diciendo a los malos gobiernos emanados de los partidos políticos, que el río yaqui ha sido históricamente el portador de la continuidad ancestral de la cultura y territorio de la tribu yaqui y los que conformamos el Congreso Nacional Indígena, reiteramos que si nos tocan a unos, nos tocan a todos, por lo que responderemos en consecuencia ante cualquier intento de reprimir esta digna lucha o cualquier otra lucha.”

No han podido matar a nuestros pueblos. Porque como semillas siguen creciendo. Nos quisieron matar con armas de fuego, como no pudieron, intentaron matarnos con enfermedades, otra vez fallaron. Muchos caminos han usado los poderosos para acabarnos a los indígenas.

Hoy nos quieren matar con eólicas, con autopistas, con minas, con presas, con aeropuertos, con narcotráfico; hoy, sobretodo, nos duele que nos quieran matar en Sonora, con acueductos.

El pasado jueves 11 de septiembre, integrantes, al parecer de la Procuraduría General de Justicia del estado de Sonora, detuvieron a nuestro hermano Mario Luna, vocero de la tribu yaqui, acusándolo falsamente de crímenes que le fueron sembrados; con ello pretenden encarcelar la lucha misma de la tribu yaqui por defender las aguas que en l940, tras una larga guerra, les reconoció como suyas Lázaro Cárdenas y que desde 2010 los dueños del dinero quieren llevarse, a través del acueducto Independencia, pasando por encima de una resolución dada por la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación y pasando por encima de todos los derechos que los Convenios Internacionales consignan a nuestro favor.

“We demand the immediate cancellation of all arrest warrants and fabrication of crimes against members of the Yaqui Tribe, and we condemn the criminalization of their struggle. We say to the bad governments that come from the political parties: the Yaqui River has served as the historical carrier and ancestral continuation of the Yaqui Tribe’s culture and territory. We who make up the National Indigenous Congress reiterate that if you touch any of us, you touch all of us, and we will respond accordingly to any attempt to repress the Yaqui’s dignified struggle or any other struggle.” (Joint communiqué from the CNI-EZLN, July 7, 2013, Caracol of Oventic).

They have not been able to kill our peoples. Like seeds, we continue to grow. They tried to kill us with guns, and when they couldn’t, they tried to kill us with diseases, and again they failed. The powerful have tried many ways to kill off the indigenous.

Today they want to kill us with wind turbines, highways, mines, dams, airports, and narcotrafficking. Above all, today in particular, we feel the pain of the attempt to kill us in Sonora, with aqueducts.

This past Thursday, September 11, people who apparently belong to the Sonora State Attorney General’s office detained our brother Mario Luna, spokesperson for the Yaqui Tribe, falsely accusing him of crimes that they themselves planted.
