El Congreso Nacional Indígena y el Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, reunidos durante 6 días en el Caracol 1 de la Realidad, denunciaron ampliamente los distintos despojos contra los pueblos indígenas a lo largo y ancho del territorio nacional. “Ese despojo tiene un nombre y es el capitalismo”, afirmó Venustiano Vázquez Navarrete, delegado del pueblo wixarika, quien junto con Miriam Vargas dieron lectura al primero de los pronunciamientos de clausura.

En este evento Armando García Salazar, perteneciente al pueblo ñ’hañhú, leyó un comunicado donde anuncia la convocatoria al Primer Gran Festival Mundial de las Rebeldías y las Resistencias, que se llevará a cabo entre los días 21 de diciembre de este año y 3 de enero de 2015 en 6 estados del país.

To the brothers and sisters of the National and International Sixth:

In the gathering of our peoples in the Exchange between Zapatista Peoples and the National Indigenous Congress “David Ruíz Garcia,” we shared with each other our pain as well as our words and experiences of struggle, rebellion, and resistance.

Together we know that within our rebellions is our “NO” to the politics of destruction that capitalism carries out across the world. And we know that within our resistances are the seeds of the world that we want.

These rebellions and resistances are not just those of the indigenous peoples of Mexico. They are also found in the footsteps of the originary peoples across the continent and in all corners of the earth where individuals, groups, collectives, and organizations not only say “NO” to destruction, but go about constructing something new.

(Aclaración: según nos dijeron en una mala información, los compas de Medios libres, alternativos, autónomos o como se llamen, no iban a poder llegar a la clausura y resolutivos de la primera Compartición (y, por lo tanto, no iban a poder reportear sobre los trabajos de reconstrucción de la escuela y la clínica que destruyeron los paramilitares de la CIOAC-Histórica), por la causa, motivo o razón de que no tenían la paga, el varo, la plata, la marmaja, la luz, el money, el soporte financiero, la liquidez, la solvencia económica, el crédito, etc., para viajar hasta acá. Por esta causa, motivo o razón, “Los Tercios Compas”, siempre dispuestos a apoyar a los Medios compas, movilizaron a un equipo especial multimedia, multitarea y multidisciplinario, muy en la modernidad pues, con hartos gigas y pozol en las morraletas, para sacar foto y entrevista que se puedan difundir. Ya en el relajo de, como quien dice, la “post producción” del material informativo, nos llegó otra información de que los compas Medios sí le hallaron la forma, el modo, el bisnes pues, para conseguir llegar hasta acá y hacer su trabajo de mandar lejos lo que acá ocurre. O sea que, como quien dice, sí van a llegar. O sea que de balde la chinga. Como quiera les mandamos el material por si sirve de algo. Va pues.)

(Clarification: according to some bad information that we received, the compas from the free, alternative, autonomous, or whatever-they-call-themselves media weren’t going to be able to to make it to the closing and resolutions of the first Exchange (and so wouldn’t be able to report on the ongoing work for the reconstruction of the school and the clinic destroyed by the paramilitaries from CIOAC-Histórica). The rationale, motive, or reason for this was that they didn’t have the cash, the coin, the bucks, the bills, the money, the financial support, the liquidity, the economic solvency, the credit, etc., to get here. For this rationale, motive, or reason, “the Odd Ones Out [Los Tercios Compas],” who are always ready to support the compa media, mobilized a special multimedia, multitask, multidisciplinary team – very cutting edge – with their morraletas [cloth shoulder bags] stuffed full of gigabites and pozol, to take pictures and do interviews to circulate about the events. Then during what they call the “post production” phase of their informative material, we received different information telling us that the compas from the alternative media did in fact have the means, the manner, the bizness to be able to get here and do their work of spreading information far and wide about what is happening here. That is, they were coming afterall. That is, all that work for nothing. In any case, we are sending you the material, for whatever it’s worth. Here goes.)

I.- Palabras de compañero Armando García Salazar, a nombre de la familia y compañeros del finado compañero David Ruiz García.

Buenos días a todos, a todas.
Buenos días hermanos, hermanas, abuelos, niños y niñas y todos los compas que representamos este movimiento.

Hace dos meses un sobrino, un hijo, vino a estas tierras en apoyo a nuestro hermano Galeano, desafortunadamente en su regreso sufre un accidente.

Él, en su afán de lucha por defender la justicia y el derecho de los indígenas, estaba en este movimiento desde hace ocho años. Tenía muchas ganas de llegar a conocer todos los hermanos zapatistas, y por qué no decirlo, a estrechar la mano del Subcomandante Marcos. Fue su mayor ilusión. Lo cumplió. Vino hasta La Realidad.

Desafortunadamente el destino es así. Hoy sin embargo, nosotros, sus hermanos, sus familiares, estamos nuevamente aquí. No damos un paso atrás porque David así lo quiso.

Good morning everyone.

Good morning brothers, sisters, grandparents, children, and all of the compas who represent this movement.

Two months ago a nephew, a son, came to these lands in support of our brother Galeano. Unfortunately he suffered an accident upon his return.

Out of eagerness to defend justice and indigenous rights, he had been part of this movement for eight years. He very much wanted to come meet the Zapatista brothers, and to be frank, shake the hand of Subcomandante Marcos. It was his greatest desire. And he fulfilled it. He came to La Realidad.

Unfortunately, destiny is like this. Today, despite this, we, his brothers and his relatives, are here again. We will not retreat; David would have wanted us to go forward.

FIRST. I am writing to let you know that the participants of the National Indigenous Congress have arrived safely to this First Exchange of the Zapatista Peoples and the Indigenous Peoples of Mexico “Compañero David Ruiz García.” The compañeras and compañeros bases of support who will be sharing their history of struggle have also arrived.

Here I want to share some information with you:

1. From the National Indigenous Congress as well as other indigenous social groups, peoples, tribes, and nations of Mexico, 312 participants have arrived from the following groups:

All have arrived safely. I am letting you know so that you can inform others where you live and that way the families of those who have come from far away do not worry.

SECOND. As proposed by the compañeras and compañeros of the National Indigenous Congress, the closing event of this first exchange, on Saturday August 9, 2014, will be open to the press in general.

THIRD. The compañeras and compañeros of the National and International Sixth are special invitees to the closing event.

FOURTH. The compañeras and compañeros of the free, autonomous, alternative, or however-you-call-it media are special invitees to the closing event.

FIFTH. The compañeras and compañeros of the National and International Sixth are welcome to arrive as of Friday August 8, 2014, and their departure is at their own convenience.

We ask the free, autonomous, alternative, or however-you-call-it media to see about staying one extra day after the closing event so that we can hold that cursed press conference that we’ve been promising you, and which we couldn’t hold last time because we saw that you needed to leave quickly because the paid media were stealing the material you produced at the Homage for our deceased compañero Galeano. Indeed that is how capitalism works, stealing what others produce. So let’s see if you can organize things so that you can report on the closing event and then later we will do the press conference.

And SupGaleano tells me to inform the free, autonomous, alternative, or however-you-call-it media to come prepared because we are going to interview you. He says we are going to include a section in our magazine REBELDÍA ZAPATISTA called “The ducks shoot at the rifles,” where we will print the interviews we do with you. SupGaleano says that you will understand why the section has that title.

Finally, the last thing for today, I am sending you some photos that SupGaleano took of the set-up that has been prepared here. We’ll see if they send because the internet here is really slow, it’s like a snail with a limp. He says the title of the photos is “The Zapatista Alternative to the International Monetary Fund and the Usurious Banks: The Zapatista Mobile Bank.”[i] If the photos don’t go through, you can see the Zapatista Mobile Bank when you come.

You will also be able to see how the reconstruction is coming along for the clinic and the school that were destroyed by the CIOAC-Histórica paramilitaries.

It would be good for you to take photos, video, or whatever of the construction so that the good people who supported this just cause can see in the free, autonomous, alternative, or however-you-call-it media that we are honoring our word, not like the bad governments who keep everything for themselves while they say they are making social improvements. Pure thievery is what they do.

Well that’s all for now, compañeras and compañeros of the National and International Sixth. Tomorrow, Monday, after the inauguration, the work of the exchange will begin. We will send you the inaugural speech that compañero Comandante Tacho will give in the name of all of the Zapatistas.

Zapatista greetings to all those who supported our compañero and compañera bases of support. We send an embrace to all those who helped generate funds for the reconstruction of the school and clinic in the Zapatista La Realidad that were destroyed by the bad governments via their paramilitaries from the CIOAC-Histórica.

Today, July 18, 2014, we want to give you an updated report of the funds generated to date. Since the last report we sent, more money has come in which hadn’t arrived before due to lack of adequate means to send it. For example, our compas of the Sixth in Europe had problems getting the money here, but they resolved that issue and those funds have now arrived in full. The same happened to other compas and collectives in Mexico and in the world.
