Les platico de una reunión que hubo en La Realidad zapatista hace unos pocos días:

Dicen las compañeras y compañeros zapatistas de La Realidad que los 3 niveles de gobiernos capitalistas que destruyeron su escuela autónoma y su clínica autónoma y su manguera de donde llega su agua los compañeros y compañeras, quisieran que ahí acaba la lucha zapatista.

Que ellas y ellos no se olvidan que destruyeron el primer Aguascalientes, y las zapatistas y los zapatistas construyeron cinco más.

Y que no se olvidan cuando destruyeron las casas humildes de las autoridades autónomas de los MAREZ, Municipios Autónomos Rebeldes Zapatistas, en año 1998, de Tierra y Libertad, por el “croquetas” de Roberto Albores, que destruyó la casa autónoma del MAREZ de Ricardo Flores Magón, del caracol de Garrucha, cuando era gobernador del pobre Chiapas, pobre por su culpa de ellos los malos gobiernos.

Pero que los MAREZ siguen su camino y más fortalecidos ahora.

Que no se olvidan que dijimos las, los zapatistas: con ley o sin ley vamos a llevar a cabo la autonomía, lo que son los derechos y cultura indígena.

Compañeras and compañeros of the Sixth in Mexico and the world:
Brothers and sisters of Mexico and the world:

I want to tell you about a meeting that we had in La Realidad a few days ago.

The Zapatista compañeras and compañeros of La Realidad say that the three levels of capitalist governments who destroyed their autonomous school, autonomous clinic, and the hose that brings water to the compañeras and compañeros wanted to destroy the Zapatista struggle then and there.

It should not be forgotten that when the first Aguascalientes was destroyed, the Zapatistas built five more.

Que, por cierto, todos los partidos políticos del poder legislativo y del poder ejecutivo y del poder judicial, nos mandaron en un tubo, creyendo que así la semilla no germinaría. Y al contrario, tomó fuerza y está en los hechos y en la práctica de los propios pueblos zapatistas. Pueblo manda, gobierno obedece.

Dicen las y los compañeros bases de apoyo del EZLN de La Realidad que van a construir su escuela con el material que da la naturaleza y también su clínica.

Entonces les digo a los compañeros de La Realidad, dejen que les escribo a los compas de la Sexta de México y del mundo.

De modo que me entiendan las y los compañeros les dije: qué tal nos acusan de destrucción de la naturaleza, porque vamos a tumbar árboles y palmas para el techo y los gobiernos capitalistas dicen que ellos los están protegiendo.

Entonces pensé: -Y pa’ qué dije eso.

Empieza la lista de destrucción de árboles por madereras que tienen permisado por los gobiernos capitalistas de Chiapas y de México.

Madereras piratas, dicen los compas, legal para gobiernos, porque son ellos mismos.

Compran en rollo, o sea por trozos, dicen, un tal Salomón de Las Margaritas. Compran en tablas, en planchones, polines. Venden los de ejido Momón, San Francisco, Vicente Guerrero, La Victoria, Pachán, Ejido Tabasco, todos del municipio de Las Margaritas. Y en San Miguel, municipio de Ocosingo, Carmen Pataté, igual de Ocosingo y hay más en todo Chiapas.

De modo de calmar la discusión que se generó de “que nos culpan los gobiernos capitalista de destrucción de naturaleza”, les digo a las y los compañeros que se acaba si les escribo a los compas de la Sexta de México y del mundo, qué tal se organizan y consigan algo de paga y así comprar materiales.

Y las bases de apoyo me contestan, la verdad no se acaba nada: está bueno compañero, escriba y vamos a esperar a ver qué pueden conseguir los compañeros.

Y les digo:

– ¿Cuánto se necesita de paga para las construcciones?

– ¡Híjole!, eso sí no sabemos.

Otro dice:

– Ah, traigan calculadora ahorita la hacemos.

Y llega la calculadora. Y empieza la matemática, y el compa dice:

– ¡Vaaaleeeee! ¡No tiene pila esta porquería!

Y mientras veo un viejito y en voz baja escucho que dice:

– Una cuarta y un geme -, y con sus dedos de las dos manos hace su cuenta.

Y de pronto me mira:

– Ya compa – me dijo.

– ¿¡Cómo!? – le digo yo.

– Sí, ya está la cuenta: Para una casa de 2 plantas de 19 metros por 7 metros de ancho, o sea 19×7, se necesita: 2000 blocks, 50 varillas de media, 400 varillas de 3 octavos, 60 bultos de calhidra, 520 bultos de cemento, 100 kilos de alambre de amarre, 400 de alambrón, 84 hojas de lámina galvanizada de 3 metros.

Un compa interrumpe y dice: – ¿Por qué no damos el total de presupuesto de esas construcciones de 2 plantas y ya?

-De acuerdo – dice uno.

Y la lluvia de voces: ¡Acuerdo!

El total sale $ 200,209. Doscientos mil doscientos nueve pesos.

Que la planta baja es para escuela de niñas y niños, y la de arriba para clínica.

Para aprovechar el terreno.

Es sólo construcción, falta materiales de salud, termómetro, baumanómetro, otoscopio y etc., y faltan los medicamentos.

Se cierra la reunión.

Pues es lo que les platico, compas de la Sexta. Ahí lo vean si es que se va a poder conseguir esa paga.

En el año 20 de la guerra contra el olvido.It has not been forgotten that the humble houses of the autonomous authorities of the Autonomous Zapatista Municipality in Rebellion (MAREZ) of Tierra y Libertad in 1998 and the MAREZ autonomous headquarters of Ricardo Flores Magón in the caracol of Garrucha were destroyed by Roberto Albores “croquetas,” when he was governor of poor Chiapas—poor because of the bad governments.

But the MAREZ continue their path, and are even stronger now.

It should not be forgotten that we Zapatistas said: with or without the government, we will carry out our autonomy, our indigenous rights and culture.

All of the political parties and all of the branches of government, legislative, executive, and judicial, told us to go to hell, thinking that with that the seed would not germinate. On the contrary, it grew, became strong, and is present in the actions and practice of the Zapatista communities themselves, where the people rule and the government obeys.

The compañeros bases of support in La Realidad said they would rebuild their school and clinic with the materials that nature provides.

So I said to the compañeros of La Realidad: let me write to the compas of the Sixth in Mexico and the world.

And so that the compañeros would understand why, I explained: what if we are accused of environmental destruction? Because we would need to cut down trees for wood and use palm for the roof, and the capitalist governments say that they are the ones protecting the environment.

And then I thought: Now why did I say that.

They begin a list of instances of forest destruction by lumber companies who have permission from the bad governments of Chiapas and of Mexico.

Pirate lumber companies, the compas say, though legal in the governments’ eyes, because they themselves are behind them.

The wood is purchased in parts, or pieces, says one guy, Salomón, from Las Margaritas. They buy them as planks, slabs, and joists. They are sold by people from the ejidos of Momón, San Francisco, Vicente Guerrero, La Victoria, Pachán, and the Ejido Tabasco, all in the municipality of Las Margaritas. Also from San Miguel and Carmen Pataté, in the municipality of Ocosingo, and all over Chiapas.

In order to calm the discussion that was generated by my comment that, “the capitalist governments will blame us for environmental destruction,” I tell the compañeros and compañeras that we could take care of this problem if I write to the compas of the Sixth in Mexico and the world; maybe they can organize themselves and get ahold of some money to buy materials.

And the bases of support answer me—well, this isn’t going to be the end of the problem—and say: okay compañero, write them and we’ll wait and see what they can get together.

I asked them: “How much money do you need for construction?”

“Jeez! That we don’t know,” they say.

Another says, “Bring the calculator, we’ll figure it out.”

Somebody brings the calculator. They start doing the math, but then the compa says:

“Maaaaan this piece of crap doesn’t have any battery left!”

In the meantime, I am watching an older man, and I hear him say quietly:

“One fourth and a little bit,” and he counts using the fingers on both hands.

Suddenly he looks up at me:

“Done, compa,” he says.

“What!?” I reply.

“Yes, I have the number. For a two-story building, 19 meters by 7 meters wide, that is 19×7, we’ll need: 2000 cement blocks, 50 half metal rods, 400 metal rods of three-eights length, 60 sacks of lime, 520 sacks of cement, 100 kilograms of mooring wire, 400 kilos of wire rod, and 84 sheets of galvanized metal 3 meters in length.

Another compa interrupts and says, “Why don’t we just tell them the total cost for these two-story buildings?”

“Agreed,” says another.

And then a chorus of voices, “Agreed!”

The total comes to $200,209 [Mexican pesos]. Two hundred thousand two hundred nine pesos.

The bottom floor should be for the children’s school, and the top for the clinic.

This is in order to use the space well.

This is only for the buildings. That’s not counting the health equipment, the thermometer, baumanometer, auriscope, etc., and also the medicine.

The meeting ends.

Well compas of the Sixth, that is what I wanted to tell you. You see if you are able to gather any money together.
