Compañeras y compañeros comandantes, compañeras y compañeros bases de apoyo, milicianos, insurgentes todos.
Compañeras y compañeros de la sexta. Buenos días o buenas tardes o buenas noches a todas y todos según donde estén.
Compañeras y compañeros, hermanos y hermanas:
Por mi voz habla la voz del Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional.
Por mi voz hablan el dolor y la rabia de cientos de miles de indígenas, hombres, mujeres, niños y ancianos del Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional.
Estamos aquí con las y los compañer@s de la Realidad, para apoyar con toda nuestra digna rabia.
Los compañeros y compañeras de la Sexta tienen que entender algo: el EZLN no se puede meter así nomás por su gana en las comunidades y gobiernos autónomos. Porque nosotros como EZLN no es de palabra que decimos “respeto”, es que así es nuestra práctica. El EZLN como fuerza del pueblo sólo puede entrar en un asunto de las comunidades zapatistas si es que las autoridades autónomas lo piden. Esto lo hacemos así porque los militares, cualquiera que sea, siempre deben respetar y servir a los pueblos, a los civiles.

Compañera and compañero comandantes, compañera and compañero bases of support, militia, and insurgentes.
Compañeras and compañeros of the Sixth. Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening to all of you, wherever you may be.
Compañeras and compañeros, brothers and sisters:
Through my voice speaks the voice of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation.
Through my voice speaks the pain and rage of hundreds of thousands of indigenous people, men, women, children, and elders of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation.
We are here with the compañer@s of La Realidad, to support them with all of our dignified rage.
The compañeros and compañeras of the Sixth must understand something: the EZLN cannot involve itself in the affairs of the communities and the autonomous governments anytime it wants to. Because when we as the EZLN say “respect,” it isn’t just talk, it is our practice. The EZLN, as a force of the people, can only become involved in an issue in the Zapatista communities if the autonomous authorities request this. This is so because an army, of whatever kind, should always respect and serve the people, the civilians.
Cuando nos enteramos del cobarde y cruel asesinato de nuestro compañero Galeano, nos dio mucho dolor y mucha rabia. Pero no podemos hacer como queramos sino que tenemos que respetar y obedecer a nuestros pueblos cuál es el camino que hay que seguir y qué tenemos que hacer como EZLN que somos.
El respeto que decimos, como Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, así lo hacemos con los pueblos y autoridades autónomas Zapatistas, así que nos aguantamos la rabia y el dolor que tenemos.
Fue hasta que nos pidió la junta de buen gobierno de La Realidad, y nos dijo que “hasta aquí llegamos y queremos que la comandancia del Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional que intervenga para que se haga justicia contra el ataque y asesinato en contra nuestra y en contra de nuestra organización zapatista”. Entonces es que ya podemos venir.
Con toda la rabia, nos venimos a acompañar las y los compañeros, a estar con ellos, para investigar este cobarde asesinato, porque esas gentes contras, paramilitares antizapatistas tienen lo que tienen pero es por nosotros, y se están pasando como si fueran zapatistas y así sacan sus proyectos diciendo que son representantes zapatistas. Lo sabemos quiénes son ésos y con quienes hablan el mal gobierno, y el sonso del mal gobierno que los cree que somos nosotros con quien está hablando.
Aquí les decimos, de nuevo a esos pinches malos gobiernos:
NO somos limosneros.
No recibimos sobrantes de sus mesas.
No buscamos ni recibimos migajas.
Buscamos gobernarnos con nuestros pueblos de México, con Justicia, Libertad y Democracia.
NO somos las y los zapatistas que hablan con ellos.
NO hablamos con malos gobiernos hoy y siempre.
NO tenemos ni un tantito de confianza a ésos sin cerebro.
A nosotros no nos importa que al mal gobierno lo hagan como baboso y lo engañen una bola de vendidos, de por sí así son los malos gobiernos: gente ignorante y estúpida que no tiene buen pensamiento para gobernar y sólo tiene manos grandes para robar. Es así como lo demuestran y han demostrado los presidentes municipales y regidores, el Manuel Velasco y el Peña Nieto. Todos ellos, de cualquier partido que sean, son ignorantes que sólo se avivan cuando hay que robar y se peinan y se arreglan mucho para las fotos de la prensa de paga. Así lo vivimos durante más de 71 años del PRI y 12 años del PAN y ahora sigue el PRI. Además de que lo hemos visto en los gobiernos locales donde pasan los demás partidos como el verde ecologista, el de la revolución democrática, el del trabajo, el movimiento ciudadano y otros, cualquiera que hay y habrá de políticos profesionales.
Compañeras y compañeros:
La rabia que tenemos es contra el capitalismo.
Porque, lo que hicieron al compañero Galeano es mano del capitalismo y a cualquiera le hubieran hecho y asesinado a otros compañeros de este pueblo y así las tiene planeada los malos gobiernos en contra nuestra, como organización EZLN.
Cuando vemos al compañero Galeano, vemos los asesinos, y también vemos quién está detrás de esos asesinos.
Es Velasco, y quien está detrás de ese Velasco es el Peña Nieto, y quien esta atrás del vende patria de Peña Nieto es el gran capital, el verdadero criminal inhumano del capitalismo neoliberal.
Se están lavando las manos. O van a lavar sus manos, es disfraz ese que detuvieron ya a tal y tal.
Porque no lo hacen para que haya justicia y paguen los asesinos, sino para tratar de calmar la gran ola de dolor y rabia que se levantó en todo el mundo. O sea que lo hacen para tranquilizar a gente como ustedes, compañeras y compañeros de la Sexta, y alumnas y alumnos de la escuelita en todo el mundo.
Porque son ellos los que organizaron todo para se haga lo que hicieron con nosotros, así está como esto. Una tal Florinda Santis de aquí en la Realidad, antizapatista, es Regidora del PAN en Margaritas, es ella y otros, quienes las llamó ofreciendo dinero que da los malos gobiernos, y esa tal Florinda se pone de acuerdo con el tal comisionado para la paz y se reúnen con los exgobernadores, presidente municipal, gobierno estatal y diputados y senadores y el gobierno federal, desde antes venían planeando junto, el tal malvado Luis H Alvares, se reunía con esa tal Florinda y el tal Carmelino, para que lleven a cabo ese cobarde y cruel trabajo paramilitar con esas gentes vendidas de La Realidad.
Así tras uno de otro de estos parásitos lo planearon y al último quedan como ejecutores estas gentes de La Realidad que no se dan cuenta cómo están siendo usados.
Porque miren: esa tal Florinda Santis, así los orientó, porque trae las instrucciones: “si hacen que los zapatista haya problema con ellos, les conseguimos más dinero, más proyectos y las conseguimos sus armas y hacen la provocación y hasta llevarlos a las emboscadas y matar quien caiga en la mano”.
Y así pasó. Como ella sabe quiénes ya no son zapatistas a ésos los llama para organizar y es regidora y se pone de acuerdo con todos los gobiernos, los llevó a las autoridades y los gobiernos los envuelven con dinero y proyectos y armas, más ganas traen esas autoridades y ven que están apoyados con el mal gobierno.
Ahora la misma Florinda, los vuelve a engañar que ahora que ya lo hicieron el asesinato, los malos gobiernos necesitan limpiar la criminalidad para que ellos no aparezcan que ellos planearon, organizaron y financiaron todo, tienen que hacer que los detengan los asesinos y así se sepa que no fueron ellos.
Pero la verdad, son ellos, es como un hilo o cadena, una tras otra: Florinda regidora, dirigentes de cioac, presidente municipal, gobernador, exgobernadores que ya confesaron que les pasaban dinero a los paramilitares y estaban muy calladitos y ahora hablan, pero para defender a criminales, y seguro también en eso anda el nuevo dizque comisionado de paz que ha mandado gente a ofrecer dinero y apoyo a dirigentes del EZLN a cambio de que le pasen información de si el subcomandante insurgente marcos está muy enfermo o si ya murió, aunque ya lo vieron con sus ojos de ustedes si es que el supmarcos está muy enfermo o si está muerto. Y así hacen también diputados y senadores y gobierno federal, toda la fuerza de los malos gobiernos están en este ataque criminal y también los apoyan en este plan gente que se dice que es de izquierda, progresista y democrática.
Compañeros y compañeras:
El mal gobierno, su plan es asesinar al Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional.
El mal gobierno quiere y sigue queriendo, de que nos volviéramos como ellos, que están manchados de sangre de un compañero luchador, que no se vendió, no se rindió y no se desvió.
Porque a esos hombres y mujeres engañados, manipulados, están obedeciendo a los malos gobiernos de los 3 niveles, vaya ell@s mism@s lo dicen, cuando llevaron a cabo el asesinato, decían: “ vengan pues mujeres, llevemos algo, machetes, palos, piedras, para apoyar a nuestros hombres, acuérdense que así nos ha dicho el gobierno por eso estamos recibiendo el programa de “Oportunidades”, así gritaban, así se decían.
Los malos gobiernos piensan y quieren, que nos matemos entre Indígenas.
Quieren que perdamos nuestras cabezas, quieren que seamos más locos que ellos, quieren que seamos más asesinos como ellos, para decir en los medio vendidos, que los tiene comprado, que es un problema intracomunitario.
Los malos gobiernos, piensan y quieren y los organizan a la gente y les dicen, mátenlo a los zapatistas, por cualquier pretexto y así se desvían en su lucha de liberación nacional, su plan de ésos es asesinarnos, enterrarnos, matándonos a nosotros.
Y lo van a seguir intentando una y otra vez y van a seguir esto.
Porque dicen que van tomar el caracol y así van a hacer en cualquiera de los caracoles.
Piensan que al asesinar al compañero Galeano, ahí se acaba la lucha de nuestra organización, pero NO.
Por eso estamos aquí, para dejar claro que la lucha zapatista NO SE ACABA.
Quieren que se acabe el ejemplo de nuestra lucha, piensan que nos da miedo que nos matan.
Nosotros sabemos porque estamos dispuestos a morir si es necesario. Así como los compañeros caídos en el año 1994, sabían por qué murieron y seguimos nuestra lucha y así siguió el Compañero Galeano porque siguió, él cumplió, como los compañeros caídos, pues ahora vamos a seguir el ejemplo del compañero Galeano, por ellos somos ejemplo en México y del mundo.
Compañeras y compañeros:
Nuestro deber principal como EZLN son las comunidades zapatistas, nuestros compañeros y compañeras bases de apoyo. Si es que tienen un problema, es lo primero que vemos y tratamos de apoyar. Nosotros no les decimos que venga otro día o que luego lo vemos o cualquier pretexto.
Por eso suspendimos la compartición con las y los compañeros del Congreso Nacional Indígena y el homenaje del compañero Luis Villoro.
No podemos estar en dos lados al mismo tiempo. No podemos estar viendo este grave problema y al mismo tiempo estar atendiendo a los miles de todo el mundo que llegarían a esos encuentros. Entonces tuvimos que elegir y elegimos a nuestros pueblos.
Venimos hasta la Realidad, pueblo del compañero Galeano y su familia y de las y los compañeros, donde está la rabia y el dolor, como compañeros que somos y como zapatista de verdad es estar con las y los compañeros y suspendimos los trabajos. No nos andamos paseando en otros lados, en el extranjero por ejemplo, dando pláticas.
Porque lo más importante para nosotros: son las y los compañer@s de los pueblos.
Ellos son nuestra fuerza, nuestro alimento, nuestro destino.
Ellos somos nosotros.
Compañeras y compañeros:
Venimos a desenterrar al Compañero Galeano. Al rato van ver cómo.
Y esas personas que lo asesinaron están solas, están manchados de la sangre limpia y pura de un luchador y eso nunca van a poder limpiar, están haciendo el trabajo del demonio de Peña Nieto y Velasco, de los demonios del capitalismo neoliberal.
Están obedeciendo la orden del supremo paramilitar, que es Peña Nieto y Velazco, que persigue al pueblo, mujeres y hombres que luchan.
Persiguen a las y los güeros que luchan, porque hay compañeras y compañeros güeras y güeros que están abajo y a la izquierda.
Porque está claro lo que queremos, lo que buscamos para este país, y quizás para el mundo. Eso que decimos “pueblo manda, gobierno obedece”
Vamos a enterrar poco a poco a este sistema capitalista, injusto, podrido, caduco, desigual, que ya apesta y contamina con su peste todo el mundo.
Somos miles de miles las y los zapatistas. Ahorita están compañeras y compañeros en los caracoles haciendo homenaje al compañero Galeano, porque no pudieron llegar hasta aquí.
Hay también compañeros y compañeras que están movilizándose y protestando en varias partes de México y en varias ciudades y en otros países. Porque ven que es una alternativa lo que estamos construyendo, ven que es un nuevo tipo de sistema de un mundo nuevo. Se dan cuenta que sí somos anticapitalistas.
Por eso es tanta la crueldad en la forma de como lo asesinaron al compañero Galeano, porque así les ordenó, así les dijo el mal gobierno de Peña Nieto y Velazco y que tienen que cumplir, para eso están pagados.
La desgracia es que hay gente jodida y podrida en la cabeza, que no piensan en sus hijos e hijas, que dejan abandonado por hacer trabajo de otros criminales. Porque va a tener que hacerse justicia.
Compañeras y compañeros:
Los malos gobiernos no nos respetan como indígenas que somos, nos ven como perros y piensan que somos perros, porque los perros se muerden entre ellos y se matan entre ellos, según quien gane.
Nosotros decimos claro que No somos perros.
Somos una organización, que luchamos por la Liberación Nacional, anticapitalistas. Luchamos por la Libertad, Justicia y Democracia. Luchamos por un mundo mejor, un mundo donde quepan todos los mundos.
No vamos a permitir eso que nos desviemos, que es lo quieren esos pinches cabrones mal paridos de los malos gobiernos.
Nos da dolor y tristeza lo que le hicieron a nuestro compañero Galeano, pero NO vamos a mancharnos del mal al mal.
Porque luchamos por Justicia por millones de seres vivos de este país y queremos y buscamos justicia para siglos por los siglos y para siempre y no como esos mal llamados gobiernos capitalistas, que no saben qué es justicia, porque ellos son los que cometen las injusticias.
Vamos a continuar los trabajos que nos dejó el compañero Galeano y lo vamos a hacer con la justa y digna rabia que nos dejó, pueblo manda y gobierno obedece.
Como él lo hizo, con el ejemplo de los compañeros caídos en el año 1994 y así tenemos que seguir a él, a cualquier compañero y compañera caídos vamos a seguir su ejemplo, sea mando o no sea mando.
Nosotras y nosotros vemos muchos caminos de cómo hacer para lograr su libertad de nuestro pueblo de México. No como ellos dicen, que sólo hay 2 caminos. Elecciones o las armas.
Hemos visto durante estos 20 años, que cuando dialogamos con esos vende patria pues no sirvió para nada, ninguno de los 3 poderes parásitos cumplieron su palabra del diálogo.
El diálogo que nos ha servido es con la gente de abajo y a la izquierda, que ahora son las y los compañer@s de la sexta y las y los compañer@s de los medios libres y alternativos que unos están y otros no pudieron venir.
Eso nos ha servido, el diálogo con el pueblo de México y del mundo, escuchar y aprender. Y ahora les ha tocado a miles de compañeras y compañeros ese diálogo de escucha, a través de nuestra escuelita, o sea nos estamos turnando de dialogar mandos y bases, con los de abajo y a la izquierda, en los primeros tiempos les toco los mandos y ahora nuestras compañeras y compañeros de los pueblos les toca dialogar, ésa es la verdad compañeras y compañeros, o sea vamos a convertirnos todas y todos como buenos representantes, como decimos pueblos mandan y gobierno obedece.
Por eso nosotros como zapatistas no estamos para luchar por tomar el Poder: ni por elecciones, ni por las armas. Sino que estamos porque el pueblo decida su camino y lo haga sin partidos políticos que los engañan y no les respeta, y para defender a nuestros pueblos.
Compañeras y compañeros:
La gente de la Cioac, ¿qué hacen? Nada más que el trabajo de ser paramilitares, y a ¿Quién le sirve eso? A los ricos defendiendo a los que los explotan y esto son responsables de sus líderes, tanto los de estatal y nacional que dicen ser.
Por cierto, los líderes estatales y nacionales, estuvieron en la planeación y estuvieron de acuerdo con la cruzada nacional contra el hambre. Porque ahí es donde hay dinero para robar lo que le toca al pueblo, es sobra de robo lo que le dan sus pueblos, así viven y en eso viven los líderes. No es plan contra el hambre, es plan de contrainsurgencia.
Todos los grandes líderes y pequeños líderes es ahí donde aprenden a mal orientar a los pueblos, ahí donde aprenden de ser mafiosos, tramposos, manipuladores.
Escuchen lo que es la cioac: atacaron los compañeros del pueblo 10 de abril del caracol de Morelia, hace pocos meses, cioac del 20 de noviembre. Cioac entraron en la tierra recuperada donde colinda con los compañeros del caracol de La Realidad, hace como un año. Cioac, atacaron la gente de Gpe los Altos por el rio Euseba a balazos, hace como un mes. Cioac, atacaron a balazos la gente de San José las Palmas cerca de Las Margaritas, igual más o menos un mes. Cioac hace más o menos como 15 días enfrentaron con la gente de Ejido Miguel Hidalgo, municipio de Las Margaritas.
Cioac se enfrentaron con su misma gente del municipio Rayón por el norte de Chiapas, hubo muertos ahí.
Cioac, el 2 de mayo atacaron con emboscadas a los compañeros de La Realidad ahí donde asesinan con crueldad al compañero Galeno
Eso es Cioac: paramilitares, dirigidos por lideres paramilitares, los Luises, con sus jefes supremos de peña nieto y Velazco, porque así les dice por su amo del neoliberal que están entregados con ellos.
Entonces, nos preguntamos, ¿qué futuro le enseñan a sus hijos e hijas esas gentes de la cioac? ¿De ser paramilitar? ¿O de ser asesinos? A cambio de dinero para matar a su propio pueblo.
Esto es lo que tiene preparado los malos gobiernos, van seguir con esto en cualquier caracol, está preparada en contra nuestra, porque se están dando cuenta que les está quedando poca sus vida como sistema y de malos gobiernos, por eso van hacer cualquier cosa tan brutal que sea en contra de nosotros las y los zapatistas.
Aquí en La Realidad lo planeó y llevó a cabo el mal gobierno para tratar de asesinar al EZLN, porque nosotras y nosotros estamos construyendo otro SISTEMA DE GOBIERNO, contra otro mal SISTEMA capitalista.
Para ellos somos el gran enemigo principal y la verdad somos sus enemigos, porque ya ¡basta! Y con nuestro ¡Ya basta! está el mandar obedeciendo, donde el gobierno no gobierna, sino el pueblo gobierna, y son servidores los que están en el gobierno
Por eso, esos malos gobiernos, planean, organizan, gastan millones en eso, compran la gente, para que vengan a asesinarnos.
Por eso no nos debemos equivocarnos, el enemigo es la de arriba, hasta que lo bajemos de ahí se acaba el enemigo.
Los engañados asesinos, sí se hará justicia. De todo esto luego explicamos más.
Nosotros no nos vengamos, nos vamos a vengar pero contra el capitalismo.
Compañeras y compañeros:
La verdad no sabemos hablar bien el español, no sabemos escribir bien, no sabemos leer bien los libros, porque hay libros que son buenos y hay que de plano no sirven, en vez que te orienta sino te confunde.
Pero sí leemos muy bien la situación mala, malísima en que vivimos las y los mexicanos en este país, y en otras partes del mundo.
Lo leemos pensando, escuchando a la gente de los de abajo y a la izquierda y esa leída le damos pensando, como debe ser una vida mejor, es decir un mejor otro sistema.
El español lo hablamos con mucho esfuerzo para despertar a los de abajo y a la izquierda, para compartir nuestra idea de una construcción de cómo gobernarnos del campo y de la ciudad.
Para mostrar lo que somos y aprender del ejemplo de luchas de otros.
Algunos hacen como que escriben mucho, porque no aprendieron nada en la secretaría de educación pública, sólo se colocaron lapiceros en el bolsillo de la camisa ahí aprendieron eso.
Pero nosotros escribimos con el ejemplo y la práctica de nuestras compañeras y compañeros, claro ya saben escribir ahora porque ya construyeron sus escuelas autónomas.
Por eso claro les decimos que no es problema si sabemos o no sabemos escribir español, si sabemos o no sabemos leer español, si sabemos mucho o poco el español, porque se busca cómo y se echa a andar el pensamiento y la práctica y así va mejorando y corrigiendo.
Así es como las y los compañer@s bases de apoyo zapatistas escriben en la práctica, con su creación de un nuevo sistema de gobierno, contra el otro mal sistema, ésa es la verdad, compañeras y compañeros de la sexta.
Sin saber dónde va coma, acentos, signos y otros más, pero sí sabemos qué sistema nuevo necesita este país, ¿o no compañeros, compañeras?
Compañeras y compañeros de la Sexta luchemos, trabajemos, hablemos entre nosotras y nosotros las y los de abajo, ya no miremos hacia arriba, ahí no hay ojos ni oídos, no hay respeto ahí.
Miren, es como los medios de paga, si buscas información ahí de cómo está el mal sistema de este país, no encuentras nada ahí, porque no sale nada ahí.
Eso sí, sale todo los días ahí notas de noticias de los malos gobiernos, porque son pagados por miles de pesos. Que México está mejorando por este gobierno y cuando te volteas a ver de abajo, para ver si cierto lo que dice los medios bien pagados, es totalmente al contrario.
Entonces hay que ver abajo.
Es decir, si queremos saber cómo luchan otros hermanos de otros lados hay que ir a leer y escuchar los medios alternativos o libres, los “escuchas” les decimos nosotros, porque escucha y saca lo que escuchó sin cambiar nada y lo manda para otros lados, para que otras y otros como nosotros zapatistas aprendamos de otras luchas, las escuchemos y las apoyemos.
Así que adelante compañeros de medios libres de abajo y a la izquierda.
Es como ahora, si queremos saber cómo o qué están haciendo los y las compañer@s de la sexta ahora, sólo en los medios alternativos se encuentra. En los medios de paga no hay nada, ¿por qué?, porque no hay paga en esa noticia y así aunque son muy de la izquierda y revolucionario y luego hay quienes están una pata aquí y otra pata allá, pero bueno. Dignidad es lo que falta.
En los medios alternativos ahí donde nos hemos enterado de las movilizaciones de las y los compañeros de la sexta, donde abrazan la familia del compañero Galeano, saludan y abrazan las y los compañeros de La Realidad, con dignidad y rabia, tanto de México y de otros países del mundo. Así sabemos ya de las movilizaciones en todos los rincones del mundo para apoyo y abrazo para su familia y compañeros del compa Galeano.
En México muchas otras protestas en las ciudades, y muchas otras formas de protestar en las páginas de internet y tuiteo que así les dicen y que de todo el mundo se encuentran entre sí.
Compañeros, todos y todas estamos en La Realidad por la realidad de lo que hizo los malos gobiernos, que nos quieren asesinarnos, destruir lo que se está construyendo aquí en la Realidad y les decimos al mal gobierno, el Pueblo Zapatista de La Realidad jamás permitiremos que la destruyan, será un día en realidad de este país lo que se está construyendo en La Realidad. Si no pudieron acabarnos el amanecer del 1 de enero de 1994 menos ahora. Porque es nuestro compromiso liberar es país, pase lo que nos pase, cueste lo que nos cueste y venga lo que venga.

When we learned of the cowardly and cruel assassination of our compañero Galeano, we were filled with pain and rage. But we cannot just do whatever we want in response; rather, we must respect and obey what our people say is the road that we must follow, and what we as the EZLN should do.
The respect that we speak of, as the Zapatista Army for National Liberation, is how we interact with the Zapatista communities and autonomous authorities, and that is why we had to bear the rage and the pain that we felt.
It was not until the Junta de Buen Gobierno of La Realidad requested our presence, saying “we have come to the point where we would like the comandancia of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation to intervene in order to assure justice is done in response to the attack and murder of one of our own and against our Zapatista organization.” At that point, we could then come.
With all of our rage, we came to accompany the compañeras and compañeros, to be with them, and to investigate this cowardly assassination, because these contras—anti-Zapatista paramilitaries—have gotten what they have because of us. They pass themselves off as Zapatistas, and ask for [government development] projects by saying that they are Zapatista representatives. We know who they are, we know who the bad government talks to, and the foolish bad government believes that they are actually speaking with us.
We repeat here again to those damned bad governments:
We are not beggars.
We don’t accept the leftovers from your table.
We aren’t looking for crumbs, nor will we accept them.
We seek to govern ourselves with our peoples of Mexico, with Justice, Liberty, and Democracy.
We Zapatistas are not the ones you are talking to.
We do not talk to the bad government, today or ever.
We do not have the slightest trust in those with no brain.
To us, it doesn’t matter what the idiotic bad government does, or that it is fooled by a bunch of sellouts, because that is how bad governments are: ignorant and stupid people who don’t have a good mind for governing, only big hands with which to steal. That is how it is with the municipal presidents, city councilmen, Manuel Velasco [governor of the state of Chiapas] and Peña Nieto, All of them, from whichever party, are ignorant people who only come alive when there is something to steal, and then they fix themselves up nice for photos with the paid press. This is what we endured for more than 71 years of the PRI and 12 years of the PAN and now the PRI again. On top of this we’ve observed local government where the Green Ecologist Party [PVEM], the Party of the Democratic Revolution [PRD], the Workers Party [PT], the Citizens Movement [MC], and others make themselves present, but they are all full of professional politicians.
Compañeras and compañeros:
The rage that we have is against capitalism.
Because what they did to compañero Galeano was the work of capitalism and they would have done it to anyone; they would have murdered other compañeros from this community because that is how the bad government had plotted against our organization, the EZLN.
When we see compañero Galeano, we see the assassins, and we also see who is behind them.
It is Velasco, and the person behind Velasco is Peña Nieto, and behind that national sell-out Peña Nieto is big capital, the true savage criminal of neoliberal capitalism.
Now they are washing their hands of it. Or they will wash their hands of it; this talk about how they already arrested so-and-so is a diversion.
Because they don’t detain these people in order to seek justice and punish the murderers, but rather to try to calm the great wave of pain and rage that has arisen across the world. That is, they do it to pacify people like you, compañeras and compañeros of the Sixth, and students of the Zapatista Little School across the world.
Because they’re the ones who organized everything in order to do this to us, that’s how this works. One Florinda Santis, anti-Zapatista, from here in La Realidad, is the PAN Councilwoman in Margaritas. It was her and others who called them [the assasins], offering money from the bad government. This Florinda schemes with the peace commissioner; they meet with the ex-governors, the municipal president, the state government, representatives and senators, and the federal government. They had been planning together for a long time; that evil Luis H. Alvares would meet with Florinda and Carmelino, so that they could carry out this cowardly and cruel paramilitary work with these sellouts from La Realidad.
And so through these various parasites they planned the attack, and at the end those who will carry it out are these people from La Realidad who don’t even realize how they are being used.
Because look: this Florinda Santis directed them; she handed down the instructions: “If you do something to cause more problems with the Zapatistas, we will get you more money, more projects, and we will get you weapons and you can create a provocation and even ambush them and kill whoever falls into your hands.”
And that was how it happened. Because she knows which people are no longer Zapatistas, and those are the ones who she called to mobilize, and since she is councilwoman she works with all of the governments. She took these people to see the government who showered them with money and projects and weapons, and we see that they are even more ready to make trouble when they know they have the support of the bad government.
And now that the assassination has been committed, that same Florinda is going to fool them again. The bad government needs to clean up the criminality so that it doesn’t appear that they planned, organized, and financed everything. So they make like they have arrested the assassins, so that it doesn’t look like it was the government itself.
But the truth is that it is them, like a thread or a chain, one behind the other: Councilwoman Florinda, leaders of CIOAC, the municipal president, the governor, and ex-governors who already confessed that they gave money to the paramilitaries and who were very quiet before and are now talking, but only in order to defend the criminals. And it is also certain that the new peace commissioner is mixed up in this, the one who had sent people to give money and support to the leaders of the EZLN in exchange for information about whether Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos was very sick or had already died, though you have seen with your own eyes if Supmarcos is very sick or dead. The deputies, senators, and federal government all do this; all of the forces of the bad governments can be found in this criminal attack. And there are people who say they are on the left, progressive and democratic, who also supported them in this plan.
Compañeros and compañeras:
The bad government’s plan is to assassinate the Zapatista Army for National Liberation.
The bad government wants us to be like them, they who are stained with the blood of a compañero in struggle, who never sold out, never gave up, never strayed from the struggle.
Because these deceitful, manipulative men and women obey the three levels of bad government, as they themselves admit. When they carried out this murder they said, “come women, bring us something – machetes, sticks, rocks – to support our men. Remember what the government said, that this is why we are receiving the ‘Oportunidades’[i] program.” That is what they shouted, that is what they said.
The bad government wants us as indigenous people to kill one another.
They want us to lose our minds, to become even more crazy than they are; they want us to be assassins like them, so they can tell the sell-out media—which they themselves bought—that this is an intracommunity problem.
That is what the bad governments want, so they organize people and tell them, “kill the Zapatistas, on whatever pretext you can find, so that we can divert them from their struggle for national liberation.” Their plan is to assassinate us, bury us, and get us to kill each other.
And they will continue to try to do so again and again.
Because they say that they are going to take the caracol, and that they will do the same in any one of the caracoles.
They thought that with the assassination of compañero Galeano they would stop our organization’s struggle, but NO.
That is why we are here, to make clear that the Zapatista struggle IS NOT OVER.
They want to put an end to the example of our struggle. And they think that they will scare us by killing us.
We know exactly why we are willing to die if necessary. Just like the compañeros who fell in 1994 knew exactly why they died, and we continued our struggle then. And that is how and why Compañero Galeano continued on, doing his duty, like the fallen compañeros. And so now we will continue the example of compañero Galeano. It is because of these fallen compañeros that we are an example in Mexico and in the world.
Compañeros and compañeras:
Our principal obligation as the EZLN is to the Zapatista communities, our compañero and compañera bases of support. If they have a problem, the first thing that we do is try to support them. We do not tell them that we will come another day, or that later we will look into it, or make any other excuse.
This is why we suspended the exchange with the compañeros of the National Indigenous Congress and the homage for compañero Luis Villoro.
We cannot be in two places at once. We cannot see to this grave problem and at the same time be attending to the thousands of people from all over the world who were going to come to these encounters. And so we had to choose and we chose our people.
We came to la Realidad, home community of compañero Galeano, his family, and his compañeras and compañeros, and home to their rage and pain. As compañeros and true Zapatistas we must be with the compañeros, so we postponed other work. We aren’t out traveling around, abroad for example, giving talks.
Because the most important thing for us is the compañer@s of the communities.
They are our strength, our sustenance, our destiny.
They are us. We are they.
Compañeros and compañeras:
We have come to unbury Compañero Galeano. In a little while you will see how.
And these people who killed him are alone. They are stained with the clean and pure blood of a man in the struggle, and this they will never be able to wash off. They are doing the devil’s work of Peña Nieto and Velasco, of the demons of neoliberal capitalism.
They are obeying the orders of the supreme paramilitary commanders, Peña Nieto and Velasco, who pursue and persecute the people, the women and men who struggle.
They persecute the güeros[ii] who struggle, because there are güera and güero compañeras and compañeros who are also below and to the left.
Because what we seek for this country, and perhaps for the world, is clear. It is what we call, “the people command and the government obeys.”
We are going to bury, little by little, this capitalist system, which is unjust, rotten, decrepit, unequal, and already stinks and contaminates the entire world like a plague.
We are thousands and thousands of Zapatistas. Right now, there are compañeras and compañeros in the other caracoles paying homage to compañero Galeano because they could not come all the way here.
There are also compañeros and compañeras mobilizing and protesting in different parts of Mexico, in different cities, and in other countries. They see that what we are constructing is an alternative; they see that it is a new kind of system, a new world. They realize that yes, we are anti-capitalists.
This is why they used such cruelty in the way that they killed compañero Galeano, because that is how they were told to do it. That was what the bad government of Peña Nieto and Velasco instructed and therefore what they had to do; that is what they are paid for.
It is a terrible shame that there are people who are so screwed up and rotten in the head, who don’t think about their sons and daughters, who abandon them in order to work for criminals. Because there will be justice.
Compañeros and compañeras:
The bad government does not respect us as indigenous people, they see us as dogs and they think that we are dogs; because of the way dogs bite each other and kill each other, depending on which one wins.
We say clearly that we are NOT dogs.
We are an organization that struggles for national liberation. We are anti-capitalists. We struggle for liberty, justice and democracy. We struggle for a better world, a world where all worlds fit.
We are not going to allow this deter us from our path, which is what those bastards in the bad government want.
What they did to our compañero Galeano pains and saddens us, but we are NOT going to dirty our hands returning evil with evil.
Because what we fight for is Justice for the millions of human beings in this country, and we have wanted and sought justice for centuries. For centuries and forever we have sought justice, not like those capitalist ill-named governments, who don’t know what justice is, because they are the ones who commit injustices.
We are going to continue the work that compañero Galeano left for us, and we are going to do it with the just and dignified rage that he also left with us; the people command and the government obeys.
Just as he followed the example of our fallen compañeros in 1994, we must now follow his example, and that of any fallen compañero and compañera, whether they are authorities or not.
We see many paths by which our people of Mexico may achieve their liberty. It isn’t as some say, that there are only two roads: elections or armed struggle.
We have seen during these 20 years that dialoguing with these people who are selling off our patrimony doesn’t work. None of the three parasitic powers followed through on their word that was given in dialogue.
The dialogue that has worked for us is with people from below and to the left, who are now the compañer@s of the Sixth and the compañer@s of the free and alternative media, some of whom are here and others who couldn’t come.
This has served us, the dialogue with the people of Mexico and the world, listening and learning. And now this dialogue has reached thousands of compañeras and compañeros who have heard us through our little school. That is, between the authorities and the bases of support, we are taking turns dialoging with those from below and to the left. In the early days it was the authorities who did the talking with others, and today it is our compañeras and compañeros of the communities who are in dialogue with them. This is the truth, compañeras and compañeros; we are helping everyone become good representatives. As we say, the people command and the government obeys.
That is why we Zapatistas are not struggling to take Power, not for elections, and not for armed struggle. Rather, we struggle so that it is the people who decide their path, without political parties who deceive them and don’t respect them. And we are here to defend our communities.
Compañeros and compañeras:
The people of the CIOAC, what do they do? Just the paramilitary work. And who does that serve? The rich, who defend those who exploit these same people, and who command their leaders, both at the state and national level where they say they work.
It is certain that their state and national leaders were present for the planning of the National Crusade Against Hunger, and supported that initiative. Because that is where there is money to steal that should go to the people; what they actually give to the people is merely what’s leftover after their theft. That is how they live, and what their leaders live off of. It isn’t a plan for eradicating hunger; it is a plan for counterinsurgency.
This is where all of the big and the small leaders learn to misguide the people, where they learn to be gangsters, swindlers, and manipulators.
Listen to what the CIOAC is: the CIOAC from the community 20 de Noviembre attacked the compañeros from the community of 10 de abril in the Caracol of Morelia a few months ago. About a year ago, the CIOAC invaded the recuperated land adjacent to the compañeros of the caracol of La Realidad. About a month ago, the CIOAC attacked and shot at the people from Gpe los Altos along the Euseba river. Also about a month ago, the CIOAC attacked and shot at the people from San José las Palmas near Las Margaritas. About 15 days ago, the CIOAC clashed with the people from the Ejido Miguel Hidalgo in the municipality of Las Margaritas.
The CIOAC clashed with their own people from the municipality of Rayón in the north of Chiapas, resulting in various deaths.
On May 2, the CIOAC ambushed the compañeros of La Realidad, cruelly assassinating the compañero Galeano.
This is the CIOAC: paramilitaries, led by the paramilitary leaders the Luises, with Peña Nieto and Velasco as their supreme leaders; it is because neoliberalism is their master that they follow the orders of these people.
And so we ask, what future do the people of CIOAC teach to their children? To be paramilitaries? To be assassins? To kill their own people in exchange for money?
This is what the bad governments have planned, and they will continue with this plan in all of the caracoles. They are prepared [to act] against us because they are realizing that their life as bad governments and as this system is running out. That is why they will do such brutal things against us as Zapatistas.
Here in La Realidad, the bad government developed and implemented a plan to try to assassinate the EZLN, because we, men and women, are building a different SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT, against the bad capitalist SYSTEM.
For them, we are the principal enemy, and the truth is that we are in fact their enemies, because we say that enough is enough! And alongside our cry of “enough is enough” is our practice of leading by obeying. Here the people govern, not the government; those who are in the government serve the people.
That is why these bad governments plan, organize, and spend millions on this project; they buy people off to come and kill us.
That is why we should make no mistake: the enemy is the one above; until we bring it down there is no way to stop it.
The deceived assassins, yes, they will face justice. We will explain all of this further.
We will not take revenge against these people; we will take our revenge against capitalism.
Compañeros and compañeras:
The truth is that we don’t know how to speak Spanish well, how to write well, or how to read books. And there are books that are good and others that simply aren’t; instead of guiding you they confuse you.
But what we do know how to read is the bad, horrible situation that we are living, as Mexicans in this country, and others in other parts of the world.
We read and think about this situation, listening to the people from below and to the left, and this reading makes us think, what would a better life be like? That is to say, a better, other, system?
With much effort we try to speak Spanish in order to awaken those from below and to the left, to share our idea about the construction of a way to govern ourselves in the countryside and in the city.
To show who we are and to learn from the example of the struggles of others.
Some people try to show their knowledge by writing a lot, but they didn’t learn anything in the state department of education. All that they learned there was how to put pens in their shirt pockets.
But we write with the example and through the practice of our compañeras and compañeros, who now of course know how to write because they have built their autonomous schools.
That is why we say that it isn’t a problem whether or not we know how to write in Spanish, or whether or not we know how to read Spanish, or if we know a lot of Spanish or just a little, because we find a to launch our thinking and our practice and then we correct and improve as we go.
That is how the Zapatista compañer@s bases of support write in practice, through their creation of a new system of government, against the bad system. That is the truth, compañeras and compañeros of the Sixth.
We may not know where the commas, accents, symbols, and all that go, but we do know what new system we need in this country. Isn’t that right, compañeros, compañeras?
Compañeras and compañeros of the Sixth, let’s struggle, work, and discuss amongst ourselves, those below, men and women. Let’s not look above anymore, where there are neither eyes to see, nor ears to hear, and where there is no respect.
Look, it’s like in the paid media, if you look there for information about the bad system in this country you won’t find anything, because they don’t talk about anything there.
But every day, they print the bad government’s news and reports because they are paid thousands of pesos to do so. They say that Mexico is improving under this government and when you turn to look from below, to see if it is true what they say in the well-paid media, it turns out that it is quite the opposite.
And so, you have to look below.
That is, if we want to know how other brothers from other places struggle, we have to go and read and listen to the alternative or free media, the “listeners” we call them, because they listen to and take what those people say without changing anything and send it to other places so that others, like we Zapatistas, can learn from other struggles, so that we can listen to them and support them.
So, onward, compañeros from the independent media below and to the left.
For instance now, if we want to know how or what our compañer@s of the Sixth are doing, we can only find out through the alternative media. There is nothing about them in the paid media. Why? Because this type of news doesn’t pay, and that’s how it is even for those that are very much on the left and revolutionary, and then there are some who have one foot here and one foot there, but oh well. Dignity is what is missing.
It Is through the alternative media that we have learned about the mobilizations by the compañeros of the Sixth, where [from where they are] they embrace the family of compañero Galeano, where they send greetings and embrace the compañeros of La Realidad, with dignity and rage, both in Mexico and in other countries of the world. And that is how we already know about the mobilizations in all corners of the world to support and embrace the family and compañeros of compa Galeano.
In Mexico, there are many other protests in the cities and many other forms of protest on the pages of the internet and twitter, as they call it, where all of the world can meet.
Compañeros, we are all here in La Realidad because of the reality of what the bad governments did: they want to kill us, destroy what we are building here in La Realidad. So we say to the bad government: the Zapatista people of La Realidad will never allow you to destroy us, and that one day what we are constructing here in La Realidad will be a reality in the entire country. If you could not do away with us on the morning of January 1, 1994, you certainly won’t be able to do so now. Because our commitment is to liberate this country, whatever happens, no matter the cost, and come what may.
