El pasado mes de septiembre de 2011 dos mujeres kaqchikeles, Petronila Cuy Saloj y Patricia Sicajau de la organización civil NUTZIJ (también conocida como la Asociación Centro de Mujeres Comunicadoras Mayas) del departamento de Sololá en Guatemala, estuvieron de visita en San Cristóbal, Chiapas.

El motivo de su visita fue para difundir el trabajo de NUTZIJ que capacita a mujeres indígenas en el uso de medios audiovisuales y en el uso de la computadora, con el fin de dar a conocer sus demandas y su visión del mundo.

Durante su estancia en San Cristóbal, Petronila y Patricia platicaron en distintos foros sobre las dificultades de trabajar en un ambiente que de entrada no acepta que una mujer trabaje con una grabadora, o una cámara, o incluso con una computadora, pues son actividades y herramientas supuestamente reservadas para los hombres.

También hablaron de las dificultades que enfrentan los indígenas, pero en particular las mujeres indígenas, aun cuando algunas indígenas ganan las elecciones para alcalde o para gobernador, como ha sido el caso en el departamento de Sololá.

Finalmente, Petronila y Patricia nos comentan el desolado panorama electoral en Guatemala, tras la primera ronda de los comicios presidenciales el pasado 11 de septiembre, resultando Otto Pérez Molina y Manuel Baltisón los ganadores que se enfrentarán en la segunda ronda a realizarse en las próximas semanas.[:en]

Also included is an announcement/interview from a member of CAD (Community Action Defense) who are mobilizing against the lobby group ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) who are responsible for creating such xenophobic laws as Arizona’s SB1070

El 30 de septiembre 2011, en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, se abrió una discusión sobre la siguiente pregunta:

“A 10 años del 2001: ¿Qué opinan ahora las organizaciones sociales que salieron a la luz en medio de la crisis?”

Con la coordinación de Hernán López Echagüe, vuelven a reunirse los protagonistas de los libros La política está en otra parte y Tierramemoria. Una charla abierta entre amigos y compañeros de ruta.

Diez años atrás, existía un lugar común: el quiebre brutal del obsoleto sistema de representatividad política; el hastío hacia toda forma tradicional de la política, la búsqueda de atajos y una novedosa manera de plantarse de cara al fracaso de una democracia imprecisa. Asambleas populares, territorios ocupados, fábricas recuperadas, organizaciones de trabajadores desocupados: ¿Qué piensan hoy, al cabo de diez años? ¿En que espacio de la política andan parados?

On June 11th, 2011, the South Central Farmers remember the aggressive eviction that took place 5 years prior. After having cultivated what was thought to be the largest urban farm in the United States, the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department carried out an eviction imposed by owner and developer of the plot, Ralph Horowitz. For nearly 14 years, the South Central Farmers worked the 14-acre plot that was located in the heart of the Alameda Corridor by the community of South Central Los Angeles, feeding hundreds of families in the community and providing a model for autonomous greenspace in urban areas. This is a brief update discussing where the South Central Farmers are currently in there struggle to get back their land.

In this segment, “water agents”share how the Aqualab is a space to engage water beyond the faucet. Engaging with water by questioning and mapping where it comes from and where it is going (and in what condition) is part of making water in California a commons rather than just another resource to be consumed.

El programa de este mes, transmitido el 5 de junio, intenta profundizar la relación entre dos temas: autonomía y austeridad. Aquí subimos dos entrevistas como segmentos/archivos separados, para que se puedan bajar y escuchar fácilmente. La primera (en español y traducida al inglés) se trata de la llamada “Spanish Revolution,” las movilizaciones populares masivas de gente en el Estado Español en contra del sistema electoral. La segunda se enfoca en una serie de acciones organizadas en contra de la política de austeridad que se está imponiendo y las formas que toma localmente. Las dos refleccionan la cuestión de cómo articular una política anti-austeridad que al mismo tiempo sea anti-estatal.

Here we’ve uploaded two interviews as separate segments/files that can be easily downloaded and listened to. The first (both in Spanish and translated into English) deals with the so-called “Spanish Revolution,” the massive popular mobilizations against the electoral system that have been taking place in Spain since May. The second focuses on a series of actions organized against austerity politics and their local manifestations. The two interviews also reflect on the question of how best to articulate an anti-austerity politics that’s at the same time anti-state.
