The Yes Men, known for their activism through irony and humor, launched a false campaign called “Somos el Muro” (“We are the Wall”), which satirizes the xenophobia of many Mexicans against Central American migrants.

On February 21, 2019, weichafe Moira Ivana Millán will be tried in Argentina. She is charged with “aggravated coercion” for organizing a peaceful demonstration in 2017 in protest of the violations to the rights of Mapuche communities committed by the Argentinian gendarmerie during the raids in September of that year. The raids were authorized by the federal judge Guido Otranto, and were part of the investigations for the disappearance of the activist Santiago Maldonado in August 2017, and who was found ded in October that year. During the raids, the gendarmerie beat and humilliated the Mapuche people.

Moira Millán was acquitted of all charges in September 2018 by judge Gustavo Lleral, but the prosecution appealed the decision. If she is declared guilty this February 21, she could face from two to four years in prison.

El 18 de julio de 2012, Diego López Méndez estaba trabajando cuando llegaron 4 judiciales vestidos de civil a su lugar de trabajo. Lo detuvieron y se lo llevaron en una camioneta blanca para ser torturado, acusándolo de un homicidio que no cometió. Ante el horror de la tortura, y pensando que lo matarían, finalmente se autoinculpó para salvar su vida. Eso fue hace seis años y medio. Desde entonces, ha estado preso.

Diego López es un indígena tseltal, padre de un niño de 6 años. La condición de madre, que está muy enferma, se ha agravado con el sufrimiento por la injusta prisión.

La única evidencia en su contra es su propia confesión, firmada bajo tortura. Quien lo inculpó también fue torturado para que lo hiciera.

Este martes, 12 de febrero, Diego comparecerá en audiencia de derecho frente al Juez Penal de San Cristóbal de Las Casas, César Rodríguez Robles, quien a partir de entonces tendrá 15 días para dictar su sentencia. Ese mismo día 12 de febrero, a las 5 p.m., se llevará a cabo una concentración en la plaza de la Catedral de esa ciudad, en solidaridad con Diego López Méndez. Invitamos a quienes estén en la ciudad a comparecer para exigir su libertad.

Observaciones en el espacio del deportivo Benito Juárez:

• Las condiciones en el campo siguen muy malas, se sigue observando aguas sucias, lodo revuelto con basura.
• Se escucha a una gran cantidad de personas con tos muy fuerte.

Traslado al espacio “El Barretal”:

Durante la mañana muchas personas estuvieron recogiendo sus pertenencias para el traslado al “Barretal”. Se observó menos miedo de las personas a ser deportadas, comparado a lo que expresaban el día anterior por la tarde y noche, pero sigue mucha desconfianza sobre las condiciones de acogida en el nuevo espacio; si efectivamente es un área techada, cómo será la entrega de comida, si habrá agua disponible y la posibilidad de que les encierren ahí.

Alrededor de las 11:00 de la mañana la CNDH confirmó que habían sido trasladadas 800 personas a partir del día anterior. El traslado siguió muy lento, efectuado por elementos de Policía federal, municipal y de algunos elementos de migración. A las 3:00 de la tarde faltaban mucha gente todavía, ya que no había suficientes autobuses para trasladarles.

Desde el Módulo Informativo de American Friends Service Committee y Coalición Pro Defensa del Migrante se detectó que, entre los requisitos pedidos a los migrantes que solicitan visa humanitaria por parte de los agentes del INM, en el espacio de la feria del trabajo, no había un módulo para sacar fotos instantáneas. Para lograr estas, los migrantes tienen que gastar dinero que no tienen a disposición.
Apoyamos en la impresión de fotos algunos de los migrantes que se acercaron a la carpa y reportamos a representantes de la CNDH la lista de requisitos que consideramos ilegítimos para ese tipo de proceso legal.

Alrededor del mediodía se acercó al Polideportivo Benito Juárez un grupo de personas, entre ellas tres mujeres procedentes de Estados Unidos y un par de hombres aparentemente centroamericanos, distribuyendo volantes que llamaban a una marcha hacia la frontera para el día 1 de diciembre. Desplegaron también una lona y empezaron a promover la marcha, intentando lograr que saliera hoy mismo.
Esto generó tensión durante unas horas, con sobrevuelo de helicópteros y algunos migrantes llamando a caminar hasta la garita El Chaparral, mientras otros denunciaban que desconocían la presencia de estas personas. Finalmente, no hubo ninguna marcha este día.

Helicópteros del gobierno estadounidense sobrevolaban espacio aéreo mexicano y del lado americano dos jets de guerra hicieron presencia.
