This February 26, on the 5-month anniversary of the abduction of the students from Ayotzinapa, the ninth worldwide day of movement for Ayotzinapa and Mexico took place. During the demonstration in Mexico City, parents of the missing students and guest speakers asked those present and society in general not to abandon them, since they intend to keep struggling. They also remembered the teacher Claudio Castillo Peña, murdered in Guerrero during a CETEG demonstration, and finally they called on peole not to vote and not to allow yet one more historic lie.

At the end of the day, a group of police officers encircled a group that intended to “liberate” the Metro. Near the Metro Sevilla a confrontation took place, where some of the demonstrators–mostly minors–were injured and others arrested.

CHIAPAS: TIERRA DE DESPLAZADOS… POR SU PROPIO GOBIERNO

Los conflictos no son el único motivo por el que cientos de indígenas chiapanecos abandonan sus poblaciones. La obra pública emprendida por el gobierno de Manuel Velasco Coello, principalmente los megaproyectos carreteros, han expulsado a miles de habitantes de sus pueblos.

En no pocos casos, un día llegan elementos armados con palos, machetes y rifles a la vivienda de alguna persona y la obligan, junto con su familia, a dejar atrás sus tierras, su historia y su poco patrimonio. Detrás de estas acciones, según el Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, existe un motivo económico: el trazo de la autopista planeada entre las zonas turísticas de San Cristóbal de las Casas y Palenque, obra por la que miles de pobladores indígenas de al menos 10 municipios están siendo presionados para dejar o vender sus tierras.

En todos los casos de despojo existe el mismo patrón: operadores del gobierno estatal, apoyados por policías, en algunos casos, y siempre en la impunidad, atacan poblaciones de indígenas y simpatizantes zapatistas, forzándolos a dejar sus territorios.

It was October 2012. Roei Elkabetz, a brigadier general for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), was explaining his country’s border policing strategies. In his PowerPoint presentation, a photo of the enclosure wall that isolates the Gaza Strip from Israel clicked onscreen. “We have learned lots from Gaza,” he told the audience. “It’s a great laboratory.”

Elkabetz was speaking at a border technology conference and fair surrounded by a dazzling display of technology — the components of his boundary-building lab. There were surveillance balloons with high-powered cameras floating over a desert-camouflaged armored vehicle made by Lockheed Martin. There were seismic sensor systems used to detect the movement of people and other wonders of the modern border-policing world. Around Elkabetz, you could see vivid examples of where the future of such policing was heading, as imagined not by a dystopian science fiction writer but by some of the top corporate techno-innovators on the planet. El Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas, acusa acciones de vigilancia y hostigamiento a sus integrantes, así como a otras organizaciones de la sociedad civil, por agentes de inteligencia del estado mexicano, durante los meses de abril y mayo, en San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas.

El Frayba, interpuso denuncia ante la Fiscalía Especializada de Protección y Atención a los Organismos No Gubernamentales para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos por actos de seguimiento y vigilancia.

Estos hechos han sido notificados a la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, a través de las medidas cautelares que este Centro tiene ante el organismo internacional. El Frayba exige al gobierno mexicano cumpla con su obligación de tomar las medidas necesarias para que quienes defienden derechos humanos ejerzan su labor sin ningún tipo de amenaza ni violencia en contra.
