We spoke with doctor Alejandro Meza, member of the Red of Medical and Mental Health Personnel for the Attention to Survivors of Torture and external collaborator of the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba), who recently suffered threats and had his house and car broken into. We also interviewed Jorge Hernández, from the Frayba, who spoke of the situation of human rights activists at the national level and in Chiapas.

Interview with Vivian Newdick of the Comité Hermanas González, regarding the case of three tzeltal women who were gang-raped by mexican soldiers at a military checkpoint in 1994, just months after the zapatista uprising. Discussion covers the difficult history of the sisters’ legal battle against the mexican military as well as recent developments in which the current governor of chiapas has attempted to settle the case with an offer of money — but without any acknowledgment of wrongdoing on the part of the soldiers.

The civil organizations that make up the Network for Peace (Red por la Paz) visited the municipalities of Comitán, Trinitaria, Comalapa and Chicomuselo, in the border region of Chiapas with Guatemala, in order to document the situation of human rights in the region.
