En una tarde despejada y con luz clara nos juntamos varios y varias que pensamos que la solidaridad no conoce de pasaportes, visas o fronteras. Afuera de la embajada de México en Londres nos reunimos para demandar la liberación de los cinco presos políticos de San Sebastián Bachajón. Hubo compañeros que vinieron desde muy lejos hasta Londres para demostrar su apoyo en esta jornada convocada por Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio. Con música y repartiendo volantes, justo enfrente de la Embajada, realizamos esta acción.

El sábado 2 de Abril, nos reunimos como Red Zapatista del Reino Unido y miramos los videos de San Sebastián Bachajón que nuestros compas del Movimiento por Justicia en el Barrio nos hicieron llegar. Participamos en esta reunión, miembros de colectivos de Edinburgo, Glasgow, Manchester, Exeter, Dorset, Londres, Lancaster, Bristol y Mexico.

Las voces de nuestras hermanas en lucha llegaron hasta nuestros corazones. Vemos en su fuerza y coraje una gran fuente de inspiración.

Previamente, el Martes 29 de Marzo, los grupos de Solidaridad de Glasgow y Edinburgo Chiapas hicieron una conferencia sobre los nexos entre ataques paramilitares y la promoción y desarrollo de complejos turísticos coorporativos en Chiapas. Se informó sobre los últimos acontecimientos en San Sebastian Bachajón.  Al evento en la ocupación de la Universidade de Glasgow asistieron más de 50 personas. También estaremos pasando el segundo videomensaje de Bachajón en un evento público en el Centro Autónomo de Edinburgo el Martes 19 de Abril asi como otras películas sobre la Otra Campaña.

Nosotros sabemos que la lucha que nuestros hermanos y hermanas de Bachajón están dando es una lucha digna y justa.  Entendemos que los de arriba quieren intimidarlos, hacer que el miedo los paralice y que así se acostumbren a la violencia inherente al despojo, a ya no reclamar sus derechos y a caminar con la cabeza agachada. ¿De qué otra forma puede explicarse la detención arbitraria de 117 personas? ¿Y la gran presencia militar y policial en la zona? ¿Cómo es posible que cinco compañeros continúen en la cárcel aún?

Pero los esfuerzos publicitarios del gobierno de México y del gobernador de Chiapas, Juan Sabines no engañan a nadie. Los compañeros presos son rehenes del Estado y sólo con la movilización habremos de arrancárselos.

Hermanos, hermanas, su valentía y su rebeldía son una gran muestra, un gran ejemplo que a nosotros nos llega hasta acá.  Queremos que sepan que nos da mucho orgullo poder llamarlos así, hermanos y hermanas, y que vemos en el rincón de la selva chiapaneca del digno ejido de San Sebastián Bachajón, una luz de esperanza que alumbra hasta donde estamos.

Nosotras y nosotros, a pesar de las distancias, desde acá los estamos acompañando. Exigimos un alto a la represión en contra de La Otra Campaña en Chiapas así como la liberación inmediata de los 5 hermanos que continúan en la cárcel.

To the members of the Other Campaign, from Mexico and abroad:

In an afternoon full of soft spring light, us, who do not believe in visas, passports or frontiers, came together. We gathered outside the Mexican Embassy in London to demand the immediate release of our 5 brothers from San Sebastian Bachajón. Many of us travelled long distances in order to be there, to show our support and respond to the call launched by Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio. Just in front of the Embassy, with music and flyers, this action took place.

On Saturday, 2^nd of April, we gathered as UK Zapatista Network and we watched the videos of San Sebastian Bachajón that our compas from MJB sent. People from different solidarity groups from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Exeter, Dorset, London, Lancaster, Bristol and Mexico attended this meeting. The voices of our sisters in particular reached our hearts. We see in their strength and courage a great source of inspiration.

Previously, on Tuesday 29th March Glasgow and Edinburgh Chiapas Solidarity Groups presented a talk on the links between paramilitary attacks and corporate tourism developments in Chiapas.  The latest situation in San Sebastian Bachajón was mentioned and discussed.  The event at the Glasgow University Occupation was attended by about 50 people.  We will also be screening the 2nd Bachajon Videomessage at a public event at the Autonomous Centre
Edinburgh on Tuesday 19th April along with other ‘Other Campaign’ films.

We know that the struggle of our brothers and sisters from Bachajón is a just and dignified struggle. We understand that those who govern from above want to intimidate you, in order for them to control you through fear, so that you accept the ingrained violence of dispossession. So that you stop reclaiming your rights and accept to walk with your head bent in submission.

How else can we explain the arbitrary detention of 117 people? What about the harassment by police and soldiers alike? How could it be possible that 5 people still remain in jail today?

But all the public relations work and campaigns of the Mexican government and of the Chiapas governor, Juan Sabines, do not fool anyone. Political prisoners are being used as hostages by the State in order to negotiate and bring down the struggle of San Sebastian Bachajón. Only through social mobilization we will be able to get them out of prison.

Brothers and sisters, your courage and rebelliousness are a great example for us. We want you to know that we are very proud of being able to call you that: brothers and sisters. We see a lot of hope and light coming out from that corner of the jungle in Chiapas called San Sebastián Bachajón. This light of hope is so strong that it reaches us all the way here.

We are with you, accompanying you in spite of the distance. We raise our voices with yours in order to demand the immediate release of our 5 brothers from Bachajón as well as the end of the repression towards the Other Campaign.
