San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chis., 24 de mayo. Desde el penal federal de Guasave, Sinaloa, el profesor tzotzil Alberto Patishtán Gómez hizo llegar un breve manuscrito donde denuncia agresiones a su dignidad por parte de sus carceleros, quienes han llegado a extremos de desdén y maltrato que resultan demasiado incluso para un indígena preso 12 años en tres penales de Chiapas, encadenado durante meses a la cama de hospital y ahora castigado en una penitenciaría de alta seguridad a 2 mil kilómetros de su lugar de origen.

“Privado de mi libertad injustamente más de una década, he tratado en conservar en todo momento mi esencia indígena, cosa que no ha sido tan fácil. Actualmente parece ya imposible al estarse imponiendo en mi costumbre (tratos) que no sólo denigran mi dignidad de ser humano, sino empiezan a atentar contra mi salud por medio de una alimentación que en mi persona rompe los hábitos que mi etnia ha tratado de mantener por siglos”, expone Patishtán.

“El régimen alimenticio al que me tiene sometido la autoridad federal penitenciaria contra mi voluntad redunda en un tormento más, al que estoy sometido como consecuencia de la injusticia que prevalece en torno a mi situación legal.”

“Una vez más”, pide al presidente de la República Felipe Calderón Hinojosa “el respeto de mis derechos”, y exige en nombre de sus compañeros presos en Chiapas “nuestras libertades inmediatas de la Voz del Amate, Solidarios de la Voz del Amate y Voces Inocentes”.

El Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de las Casas (Frayba) denunció a su vez que el gobierno ha vuelto a impedir la libertad de Patishtán. Recordó que el 29 de febrero en Tuxtla Gutiérrez, el juez competente resolvió el amparo interpuesto por la defensa para ser retornado a Chiapas. “Sin embargo Felipe Calderón, a través de Secretaría de Seguridad Publica Federal, el 3 de abril interpuso un recurso para retrasar o anular el regreso”.

Profesor de una primaria pública en el municipio El Bosque, en 2000 “fue involucrado en el homicidio de siete policías, además de ‘planear y realizar’ la emboscada con un miembro de las bases de apoyo del EZLN”, recapitula el Frayba. “Inexplicablemente” fue sentenciado entonces, “a pesar de que quedó demostrado en el juicio que quien los acusó, el hijo del presidente municipal, menor de edad, mintió abiertamente, por lo que el juez absolvió al coacusado”, pero no a Patishtán.

“Durante los más de 11 años de inmerecida condena, Alberto ha sido un modelo de luchador social a favor de la causa de los más olvidados, generalmente pobres e indígenas. Su lucha incesante ha permitido la liberación de cientos de personas acusadas de delitos inexistentes o no cometidos por ellas, pero toda esa labor no ha alcanzado para que cese el encarcelamiento de un hombre inocente, un luchador social, un preso político de quien Tatic Samuel demandó su liberación, y el gobernador Juan Sabines Guerrero reconoció su inocencia”, refiere el organismo civil.

En 2010 se le diagnosticó glaucoma (enfermedad irreversible que opaca la vista lentamente). “Su situación de salud se agravó por la nula atención médica que existe al interior de los Centros Estatales de Reinserción y Readaptación Social” en Chiapas. “Como castigo a su lucha por su libertad y la defensa de los derechos humanos, el 20 de octubre de 2011, mientras se encontraba en huelga de hambre con los Solidarios de La Voz del Amate, fue trasladado al Centro Federal de Readaptación en Guasave”, a solicitud del secretario de Gobierno Noé Castañón León, como el propio Frayba documentó semanas atrás.* It’s even affecting his food, contrary to his customs

From the federal prison in Guasave, Sinaloa, Tzotzil Professor Alberto Patishtán Gómez sent a brief manuscript wherein he denounces attacks against his dignity by prison personnel, who have gone to the extremes of disdain and mistreatment that are too much even for an indigenous prisoner with 12 years in three Chiapas prisons, chained for months to a hospital bed and now punished in a high-security penitentiary 2,000 kilometres from his place of origin.

“Deprived of my freedom unjustly for more than a decade, I have always tried to preserve my indigenous essence, a thing that has not been so easy. Currently it now seems impossible that they are imposing on my customs (treatments) that not only denigrate my dignity as a human being, but begin to attempt against my health by means of food that in my person break the habits that my ethnicity has tried to maintain for centuries,” Patishtán exposes.

“The food regime to which the federal prison authority has submitted me against my will overflows into one more torment, to which I am submitted as a consequence of the injustice that prevails around my legal situation.”

“One more time,” he asks President of the Republic Felipe Calderón Hinojosa “to respect my rights,” and demands in the name of his prisoner compañeros in Chiapas “the immediate freedom of the Voice of El Amate (la Voz del Amate), those in Solidarity with the Voice of El Amate (Solidarios de la Voz del Amate) and Innocent Voices.”

The Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Centre (Frayba) denounced that the government has again impeded Patishtán’s freedom. It remembered that on February 29 in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the competent judge resolved the protective order (amparo) filed by the defence for returning him to Chiapas. “Nevertheless Felipe Calderón, by means of the Federal Secretary of Public Security, filed an appeal on April 3 to delay or annul his return.”

The teacher at a public primary school in El Bosque municipality, in 2000 “was involved in the homicide of seven police, besides ‘planning and carrying out’ the ambush with a member of the EZLN’s support bases” recapitulates Frayba. “Inexplicably” he was sentenced then, “despite the fact demonstrated in the trial that the one who accused him, the municipal president’s son, a minor of age, openly lied, for which reason the judge absolved the man co-accused,” but not Patishtán.

“During the more than 11 years of his unwarranted sentence, Alberto has been a model social struggler in favour of the cause of the most forgotten, generally poor and indigenous. His incessant struggle has allowed the liberation of hundreds of persons accused of non-existent crimes or crimes they did not commit, but all that work has not reached the point where they cease the incarceration of an innocent man, a social struggler, a political prisoner whose freedom Tatic Samuel demanded, and whose innocence Governor Juan Sabines Guerrero recognized,” the civil organism says.

In 2010 he was diagnosed with glaucoma (an irreversible disease that slowly clouds vision). “His health situation was aggravated by the lack of medical attention that exists inside the State Centres of Social Reinsertion and Re-adaptation” in Chiapas. “As punishment for the struggle for his freedom and for human rights defence, on October 20, 2011, while he was on a hunger strike with theSolidarios de La Voz del Amate, he was transferred to the Federal Re-adaptation Centre in Guasave,” at the request of the (Chiapas) Secretary of Government Noé Castañón León, as Frayba documented weeks ago.

Las y los migrantes mexicanos que somos el Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio, La Otra Campaña Nueva York, quisiéramos compartir con ustedes esta urgente propuesta:

Vía las siguientes palabras va nuestra humilde esperanza: que juntas y juntos iniciemos la segunda –y ojalá, última– etapa de nuestra lucha ya mundial e histórica por la libertad y justicia de nuestros hemanos presos políticos indígenas Francisco Sántiz López, Base de Apoyo del EZLN, y Alberto Patishtán Gómez, adherente a La Otra Campaña.

Esta lucha, día tras día, va creciendo, va aumentando, va tocando pues a incontables corazones y sueños de tantos pueblos honestos y dignos de nuestro planeta.

Hoy día esta lucha nos ha guíado y llevado a una cumbre, la cual nos muestra que su alcance ya es mundial, que incopora tierras lejanas y próximas que se han sumado al llamaniento por la liberación de nuestros queridos hermanos Francisco Sántiz López y Alberto Patishtán Gómez, y en contra del sistema de represión y destrucción que produce estas injusticias.

Ellos y ellas, ustedes, nosotras y nosotros, hemos acogido la voz y el sueño de nuestros dos hermanos y sus pueblos. Los hemos acogido y como consequencia, nos han convertido suyos.

Hoy podemos ver con ojos vivos que en todas partes de Chiapas y de México entero, en Sudáfrica, en Brasil, en Inglaterra, en Escocia, en Nueva Zelanda, en Argentina, en Austria, en Suiza, en Estado Español, en Estados Unidos: el pueblo se preocupa y se mueve por Patishtán y Sántiz López.

Además, en los últimos días hemos visto que nuestras mobilizaciones realizadas durante la “Semana de Lucha Mundial por la Libertad de Patishtán y Sántiz López” han producido ciertas grietas en las paredes del calabozo injusto.

Una de esas grietas es el hecho de que ha reaccionado el mal gobieno del represor Juan Sabines, mal gobernador de Chiapas, y recientemente respondió sobre el caso de Sántiz López.

Esa respuesta salió como mosca de su boca ensuciada por tanto mentir. Pura mentira, pues.

Pero, es señal de que el mal gobierno se encuentra obligado a hablar, y síntoma de que se está debilitando. Ahora todo el mundo está mirando.

Compañeras y compañeros:

A luz de esto, ahora más que nunca, hay que aprovecharnos de su obvía y expuesta debilidad y seguir organizándonos y poniendole más presión para que el mal gobierno obedezca a la voluntad del pueblo digno y para que las paredes del calabozo, por fin, se vuelvan polvo.

Nuestros hemanos Alberto y Francisco, a pesar de las condiciones pésimas, siguen luchando desde el interior, y por ello, sus dignos gritos todavía nos llegan hasta acá.

Ya no se puede esperar más. ¡¡NUESTR@S PRES@S LIBRES YA!!

Nuestra campaña continuará.

Por ello, les pedimos a que nos unamos tod@s para exigirles a los malos poderes de México, en particular el represor presidente Felipe Calderón y el represor gobernador Juan Sabines, que liberen de inmediato a nuestros compañeros Alberto Patishtán Gómez y Francisco Santiz López.

We, the women and men Mexican immigrants, who form Movement for Justice in El Barrio, The Other Campaign New York, would like to share with you this urgent proposal:

By way of the following words we issue our humble hope: That together we may begin the second – and hopefully, final – phase of our, now global and historical, struggle for freedom and justice for our brothers, the indigenous political prisoners, Alberto Patishtán Gómez, adherent to The Other Campaign, and Francisco Sántiz López, member of the EZLN Support Base.

Day in and day out, this struggle continues to grow, to expand, and to touch the innumerable hearts and dreams of so many honest and dignified people of our planet.

This struggle emerges and runs with the previous support given to the “Week of Worldwide Struggle for the Liberation of Patishtán and Sántiz López: Bringing Down the Prison Walls!” from our Zapatista sisters and brothers of the Junta de Buen Gobierno (Good Government Council) and from the families of Francisco and Alberto. Their messages of support and a brief history on the two cases appear in the documentary “Brining Down the Prison Walls: The Struggle for Patishtán and Sántiz López”:

Today, this struggle has guided us to a plateau—one which demonstrates that its reach is now global, as it encompasses lands near and far that have joined the call to free our beloved comrades, Francisco Sántiz López and Alberto Patishtán Gómez, and to fight against the unjust system of repression and destruction from which their incarceration stems.

They, you, we have received the voice and dream of our two brothers and their peoples. We have received them and as a consequence, we have become their own.

Today we can see with sober eyes that in all parts of Chiapas and in all of Mexico, in South Africa, in Brazil, in England, in Scotland, in New Zealand, in Argentina, in Austria, in Switzerland, in Spain, in the U.S.: the people are concerned, the people are rising for Patishtán and Sántiz López.

In addition, during these past few days, we have seen that the mobilizations we carried out during the “Week of Worldwide Struggle for the Liberation of Patishtán and Sántiz López” have produced certain cracks in the prison walls.

One of these cracks is illustrated by the reaction of the bad government of the repressor Juan Sabines, bad governor of the state of Chiapas, who recently responded regarding the case of Sántiz López.

This response left his mouth – filthy as it is from so much deceit – like a fly: Complete deception.

But it is a sign that the bad government feels obligated to speak on the matter, and it is a symptom that the bad government is weakening. Now the whole world is watching.

Compañeras and compañeros:

In light of this, now more than ever, we must exploit its obvious and exposed weakness and continue organizing; we must increase the pressure, so that the bad government may obey the will of the dignified people and that these walls disintegrate.

In spite of the horrific conditions, our brothers Alberto and Francisco continue to fight from the inside. Their cries of dignity still reach us here.

We cannot wait any longer: OUR PRISONERS OUT NOW!!!

Our campaign shall continue.

For this reason, we ask you once more to join us in demanding that the bad powers of Mexico, in particular the repressor Pres. Felipe Calderón and the repressor Gov. Juan Sabines, immediately release our compañeros Alberto Patishtán Gómez and Francisco Sántiz López.

This time with more people, more countries, more communities, more screams, more determination to set our brothers free.

To this end, we propose the following:

We the undersigned, from Wellington New Zealand, view with deep concern and anger how people in Mexico who are organizing to struggle for and defend their rights are punished with imprisonment.
Governments lock them away trying to condemn them to oblivion, silence and submission. But their voices and their example reach us loudly and clearly from the prisons – through the voices of our brothers Alberto Patishtán and Francisco Sántiz Lopez.

We know that they are not guilty because they are committed social activists whose innocence has been documented by human rights centres and defenders.

Alberto Patishtan has been imprisoned since 2000. Prison has become his base of struggle, where he has not only borne his punishment with dignity, but also organized many other political prisoners to attain their freedom. As a result, he has been sent to different prisons. He was transferred to his current location, in Guasave, Sinaloa, as punishment for his participation in the latest hunger strike, which was undertaken in Chiapas in 2011. We know that Alberto Patishtan has become a symbolic figure for social movements in Chiapas, Mexico and the world. We also know that because of his dignified rebellion, the Mexican state affords him special brutality.

Francisco Lopez Sántiz has committed the crime of being a Base of Support for the EZLN. This is the reason that he is in prison, not for the crime he is alleged to have committed in December 2011 in Banavil, Tenejapa. This is proven by the fact that Francisco was not even at the scene of the crime, as has been amply demonstrated.

For these reasons we demand immediate and unconditional liberty for Alberto Patishtan, Francisco Sántiz and all political prisoners in Chiapas and Mexico. Prison, repression and impunity cannot and must not continue to rule in Mexico.

San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chis, 23 de mayo. “Si el gobierno mexicano no quiere ser juzgado en las cortes internacionales por crímenes contra la población y los movimientos populares” debe liberar al profesor Alberto Patishtán Gómez y al zapatista Francisco Santiz López, “como una cosa inmediata”, declaró Rafael Vilas Boas en nombre del Movimiento de Trabajadores Sin Tierra de Brasil (MST), al concluir la semana mundial por la libertad de los dos indígenas.

Por su parte, migrantes mexicanos del Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio de la otra campaña en Nueva York irrumpieron este lunes en el consulado general de México en dicha ciudad con la misma exigencia. Pese a la negativa inicial de atenderlos, por el personal consular, que incluso cerró las instalaciones llenas de “paisanos”, finalmente los escuchó el cónsul y “atrás de él se desdobló una manta grande: ‘justicia y libertad para Alberto y Francisco’”. Ante un “silencio profundo” del público, “hicimos eco al digno llamamiento originando desde Chiapas por nuestros dos presos”, refiere el movimiento neoyorquino, convocante de la semana mundial.

En el mensaje videograbado del MST, Vila Boas expresa que si Patishtán sigue preso “es porque es muy competente, el trabajo que estaba haciendo era muy bueno, y no criminal”. No es “un enemigo, sino un orgullo para el país”, añade. “Si México quiere ser una democracia es necesario que libere al profesor”.

Respecto a Santiz López, sostiene: “El MST tiene una relación de admiración y respeto por el movimiento zapatista, que se contrapone a un modelo de representación política que no responde al interés de la gran masa de la población. El compañero estaba colaborando en la organización de la sociedad, no puede ser considerado un criminal. Es un héroe”. El vocero brasileño consideró necesario “que la sociedad mexicana haga la distinción entre una acción criminal y la organización popular”.

Esta mañana, la Plataforma de Solidaridad con Chiapas y Guatemala y el Centro de Documentación sobre Zapatismo entregaron en la embajada de México en España un escrito para el embajador con el pronunciamiento favorable a la libertad de los dos indígenas, emitido en el Foro del Mayo Global que tuvo lugar el fin de semana.

Otras acciones se efectuaron en el Parque del Retiro en Madrid y en Barcelona. En la capital mexicana, colectivos de la otra campaña realizaron el domingo un mitin de varias horas en la explanada de Bellas Artes demandando libertad para Patishtán, “preso de conciencia arbitrariamente traslado a un penal de alta seguridad en Guasave, Sinaloa”, y para Santiz López, “detenido e inculpado por ser base de apoyo zapatista”. Demandaron “justicia y voz al silencio que tuvo la huelga de hambre y el ayuno que valientemente sostuvieron en 2011 los presos en Chiapas: Pedro López Jiménez, Rosario Díaz Méndez, José Díaz López, Alfredo López Jiménez, Alejandro Díaz Santiz y Juan Díaz López, Andrés Núñez Hernández y Rosa López Díaz, Juan Collazo Jiménez y Enrique Gómez Hernández”.

Integrantes del grupo Las Abejas, en tanto, declararon este martes en Acteal (Chenalhó) que “los gobiernos tratan de desarticular y de sembrar miedo y terror en las organizaciones, movimientos sociales y colectivos independientes que no están de acuerdo con el sistema que se está ejerciendo en México, y con esa estrategia encarcelaron a Patishtán desde 2000, acusado falsamente de participar en el homicidio de siete policías”. “If the Mexican government does not want to be judged in international courts for crimes against the population and the popular movements” it must free Professor Alberto Patishtán Gómez and the Zapatista Francisco Santiz López, “as an immediate matter”, declared Rafael Vilas Boas in the name of the Brazil’s Landless Workers Movement (Movimiento de Trabajadores Sin Tierra de Brasil, MST), at the end of the worldwide week for the freedom of the two indigenous men.

Meanwhile, Mexican immigrants from the Movement for Justice in El Barrio, from the Other Campaign in New York, stormed into the General Consulate of Mexico in that city on Monday, with the same demand. Despite the initial refusal to attend to them by consular personnel, who even closed the installations full of “countrymen”, the Consul finally listened to them and “behind him a large banner was unfolded that repeated our demand: ‘justice and freedom for Alberto and Francisco.’” Before a “profound silence” from the public, “we echoed the dignified call originating from Chiapas for our two prisoners”, says the New York movement, convoker of the worldwide week.

In the MST’s videotaped message, Vila Boas says that if Patishtán remains imprisoned, “it is because he is very competent, the work that he was doing was very good, and not criminal”. He is not “an enemy, but a pride for the country”, he adds. “If Mexico wants to be a democracy it is necessary to free the professor.”

With respect to Santiz López, he maintains: “The MST has a relationship of admiration and respect for the Zapatista movement, which is opposed to a model of political representation which is not in the interest of the great mass of the population. The compañero was collaborating in the organization of society, [therefore] he cannot be considered a criminal. He is a hero.” The Brazilian spokesperson considered it necessary “for Mexican society to make the distinction between a criminal action and grassroots organising”.

This morning, the Platform in Solidarity with Chiapas and Guatemala and the Centre for Documentation on Zapatismo delivered a letter for the Ambassador at the Mexican Embassy in Spain with the pronouncement in favour of the freedom of the two indigenous men, issued at the Global May Forum (Foro del Mayo Global) that took place at the weekend.

Other actions were carried out in the Parque del Retiro in Madrid and in Barcelona. In the Mexican capital, Other Campaign collectives held a Sunday meeting for several hours in the Bellas Artes (Fine Arts) esplanade demanding freedom for Patishtán, “a prisoner of conscience arbitrarily transferred to a high-security prison in Guasave, Sinaloa,” and for Santiz López, “detained and blamed for being a Zapatista support base.” They demanded “justice and voice to the silence that met the hunger strike and fast, which was valiantly maintained in 2011 by the following Chiapas prisoners: Pedro López Jiménez, Rosario Díaz Méndez, José Díaz López, Alfredo López Jiménez, Alejandro Díaz Santiz and Juan Díaz López, Andrés Núñez Hernández and Rosa López Díaz, Juan Collazo Jiménez and Enrique Gómez Hernández.”

Members of the Las Abejas group, meanwhile, declared this Tuesday in Acteal (Chenalhó) that “the governments try to disorganize and sow fear and terror in the independent organizations, social movements and collectives that are not in agreement with the system that is being exercised in Mexico, and with that strategy they have incarcerated Patishtán ever since 2000, falsely accused of participating in the homicide of seven police.” They demanded his freedom and the freedom of the “compañero” Santiz López, support base of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional), “arbitrarily incarcerated since December 4 [2011], accused of acts that happened in the community of Banavil (Tenejapa).”

Upon concluding the week of worldwide actions and protests, the New York-based Movement for Justice in El Barrio stated: “There remains a lot of work for us to do, as our two prisoners remain unjustly imprisoned.”

Ante la imposibilidad, de que el Sr. Embajador pudiera recibir en mano el documento, por motivos de agenda, el escrito fue debidamente registrado en la Embajada, para su entrega al destinatario.

This past May 19th, as part of the “Spring Celebrations” of Ateneu l’ Harmonia de Sant Andreu de Palomar, and organized as part of the “Week of Worldwide Struggle for the Liberation of Patishtán and Sántiz López: bringing down the prison walls‏”. Several collectives joined forces and our work to create a solidarity video.

Receive an enormous embrace from El Barrio, Nueva York. Today being the closing day, here we share with you the seventh and final update on the “Week of Worldwide Struggle for the Liberation of Patishtán and Sántiz López: Bringing Down the Prison Walls.”

We have received, and will circulate herein, a new video message from our compas of the Landless Workers Movement (Movimento Sem Terra) of Brazil, as part of the global actions executed during the Week of Worldwide Action. In this video, Rafael, a representative of MST, explains to us the reasons behind their support and solidarity for the two political prisoners of Chiapas and the national and international struggle for their liberation. Our Brazilian comrade states that with regards to Alberto’s case, popular education and learning must be nourished in order to have real democracy, and therefore, those who do so must be defended. Punishing educators would constitute a grave error against this goal and represent an irrational and unjust act. He adds, moreover, that the fact that Alberto has already spent 12 years in prison speaks to his abilities and demonstrates that he has indeed done “excellent work” for his people and against the interests of the capitalists and their political lackeys. Concerning Francisco, our compa from the MST states that his movement has a “relationship of admiration and respect” for the Zapatistas. He goes on to suggest that unjust and arbitrary incarceration can be regarded as a crime against the population and democracy. There exists much truth in his words and for this reason, we are happy to be able to share with you the full message here:

Although this particular week of struggle ends today, there still remains much work to be done, as our two prisoners remain unjustly imprisoned.

Their physical bodies remain stuck in disgusting cells for crimes that they did not commit, while those who do harm to our people and our Mother Earth, continue to enjoy impunity and the wealth that they have robbed violently from us.

It sickens us. It enrages us. It causes us agony. It fills us full of emotion and strength to tear down the walls that confine them.

We view them as our prisoners, our brothers.

And it has occurred to us that Alberto and Francisco’s dreams are very similar to our own, as migrants. The true “American dream” of any immigrant is being able to be back in their community with their family.

We share this same dream, this same yearning, and we shall soon make them reality.

It is our hope that these global actions have given all of us, and in particular, Francisco, Alberto, and their people, more energy, more determination and strength to continue fighting for that freedom that we have always sought.

Pronunciamiento de la Alianza Magonista Zapatista – AMZ  por la libertad de Alberto Patishtán y Francisco Sántiz López

En el marco de la “Semana de Lucha Mundial por la Libertad de Patishtán y Sántiz López: A Tumbar las Paredes del Calabozo” y adhiriéndonos a la “Jornada Nacional e Internacional en Solidaridad con las Comunidades Zapatistas”, la Alianza Magonista Zapatista – AMZ  nos pronunciamos por la libertad inmediata de los compañeros Alberto Patishtán, maestro bilingüe de la comunidad de El Bosque, Chiapas, injustamente preso desde hace doce años, y recientemente trasladado a un penal de máxima seguridad, en Guasave, Sinaloa, a más de dos mil quilómetros de su familia, y por la libertad de Francisco Sántiz López, base de apoyo del EZLN y de tod@s l@s pres@s polític@s del país.

Liberar a los compañeros es una tarea común e  impostergable de todos los que luchamos contra la opresión,  por lo que asumimos  los acuerdos y nos sumamos al calendario de acciones  que se  consensó  en el Foro contra la Prisión Política y por la Libertad de Alberto Patishtán que se llevó a cabo en CIDECI, San Cristóbal, Chiapas el 12 y 13 de mayo y en el cual participamos.

En un contexto de guerra abierta que se vive en todo México en contra de la población general, vemos que son constantemente atacados los proyectos de autonomía de las comunidades indígenas zapatistas que mientras resisten al despojo, la discriminación, la explotación, la militarización y la paramilitarización de sus territorios siguen manteniendo viva la posibilidad de un cambio real, ensayando formas de vivir alternativas comunitarias.
Siendo la autonomía zapatista una forma de vida digna e integral de los pueblos y comunidades indígenas,  y totalmente independiente de los tres niveles de gobierno, continúa siendo atacada por la guerra del gobierno y sus paramilitares con todos los medios a su disposición (armas, incendio de cosechas, detenciones y programas de gobierno).

Por todo esto exigimos un cese al hostigamiento en contra de las comunidades zapatistas y la libertad inmediata del compañero Francisco Sántiz López, base de apoyo del  EZLN.  Cualquier ataque a la autonomía zapatista es un ataque a todos quienes luchamos, con nuestras formas y tiempos, por la construcción de la autonomía de nuestros pueblos.

ACCIÓN DIRECTA EN CONSULADO MEXICANO DE NUEVA YORK POR LA LIBERTAD DE PATISHTÁN Y SÁNTIZ LÓPEZ

Hoy siendo el penúltimo día de la “Semana de Lucha Mundial por la Libertad de Patishtán y Sántiz López: A Tumbar las Paredes del Calabozo,” integrantes mexicanos de Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio, La Otra Campaña Nueva York irrumpimos en el Consulado General de
México en la Ciudad de Nueva York para hacer nuestra exigencia de la liberación inmediata de nuestros compañeros Alberto Patishtán Gómez y Francisco Sántiz López.

Después de pasar por la manada de guardias que se ha hecho rasgo común
del Consulado en Nueva York, logramos entrar al espacio principal del sitio y exigimos junt@s que saliera el consul inmediatamente a escuchar nuestras justas demandas.

Al principio se negaban los empleados antendernos, diciendo que el
Cónsul se encontraba fuera de la oficina y que no se podía reunir con más de una persona a la vez. Nosotr@s, como organización sin lideres, insistimos que era necesario que hablara con tod@s nosotr@s porque, además de tener el derecho de estar alli, trabajamos de modo
colectivo, sin jerarquías algunas. Obviamente para los malos gobiernos, esa es una práctica muy extranjera.

Luego luego varios funcionarios y guardias salieron de manera agresiva y empezaron a hostigarnos. Ellos trataron varias veces de sacarnos a fuerza, hasta físicamente, acusándonos de haber provocado un
disturbio, por lo que, según ellos, no podían seguir con su trabajo. Sus quejas y frustración con nuestra presencia se aumentaron, y a pesar de la lluvia fría que caía a borbotones cerraron la entrada y no
dejaron pasar a la gente. Fue entonces cuando un empleado furioso nos agarro a algun@s, y trató de corrernos sin razón
alguna.

Todo esto sucedió ante una precencia bastante grande de paisanas y
paisanos a quienes les dimos volantes con información sobre los casos
de Patishtán y Sántiz López.

Así pasó ese conflicto fugaz entre ellos y nosotr@s. Pero al final de cuentas, después de tanto insistir de nuestra parte y de manternos firmes, ni sus excusas debiles ni su agresión física pudieron con
nosotr@s.

Poco después llegó el Consul, vestido de traje y corbata, y le leímos nuestra carta que denunció el encarcelamiento injusto de nuestros compañeros Alberto y Francisco y las condiciones económicas y políticas que promueven la represión política, especialmente en contra de los pueblos originarios de nuestro país. Atrás de él se desdobló una manta grande que claramente repetió nuestra demanda: “¡Justicia y
Libertad para Alberto y Francisco!”

Todo el mundo nos escuchó en ese momento, y ante un silencio profundo,
hicimos eco al digno llamamiento originando desde Chiapas por la liberación de nuestros dos presos.

Seguiremos difundiendo la verdad y esperanza, seguiremos luchando como
pueblos dignos desde abajo y a la izquierda para que pronto salgan libres Patishtán y Sántiz López. La solidaridad entre los pueblos dignos siempre será nuestra fuerza.

Today being the penultimate day of the “Week of Worldwide Struggle for the Liberation of Patishtán and Sántiz López: Bringing Down the Prison Walls,” mexican members of Movement for Justice in El Barrio, The Other Campaign New York stormed the General Consulate of Mexico in New York City to demand the immediate release of our compañeros Alberto Patishtán Gómez and Francisco Sántiz López.

After passing through the pack of security guards, which has become a common feature of New York’s Mexican Consulate, we managed to enter the main space, where we insisted to speak face-to-face with the Consul and have him listen to our just demands.

Initially the employees refused to attend to us, and stated that the Consul was not in the office today and that, even if he were, it was not possible to meet with more than one person at a time. As a leaderless organization, we insisted that it was necessary for him to address us as a group, since in addition to it being our right to be present, we work collectively and without hierarchies. Obviously this is a practice that is completely foreign to the bad governments.

Shortly thereafter several employees and security guards came out aggressively and began to harass us. Repeatedly, they attempted to remove us by force, in some cases physically, due to our alleged disturbance, which they claimed, prevented them from continuing their work. Their complaints and frustration with us mounted. At one point, they shut down the front entrance and did not allow people to enter, despite the cold pouring rain. At this point, one furious employee attempted to grab a few of us and run us off without reason.

All of this took place before numerous Mexican immigrants–to whom we handed out fliers with information concerning Patishtán and Sántiz López and the national and international struggle to free them.

This is how the fleeting conflict between us transpired. Ultimately, after much insistence on our part and remaining firm, we outlasted their flimsy excuses and physical aggression.

Once the consul arrived, we read him a letter we wrote that denounced the unjust incarceration of our compañeros Alberto and Francisco and the economic and political conditions that promote political repression, especially against indigenous peoples, in our country. As a backdrop, a large banner was held behind him, which reiterated our demand: “Justice and Freedom for Alberto and Francisco!”

We held the attention of everyone in the room at that moment, and during this deep silence, we echoed the dignified call from Chiapas to release our two prisoners.
