AS IMMIGRANTS, WE ARE ALSO SICK OF THIS SHIT.

We are Movement for Justice in El Barrio, an organization of Mexican immigrants that fights for human dignity and against neoliberal displacement in East Harlem, New York. We fight for the liberation of women, indigenous peoples, lesbians, gays, the transgender community, and immigrants. We, too, as immigrants are sick of this shit (estamos hasta la madre)… as are all those from below in our beloved Mexico.

Our pain and solidarity indignation is with all the people who, due to the bad government’s war – deceitfully disguised as a “war against narco-trafficking”—, have lost their sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, relatives, and friends.

As immigrants, we are also the targets of the bad government’s wars and we are being attacked from all sides. First, by the capitalist system and the political class of Mexico that, through the PAN, PRD, and PRI political parties, forms the bad government. They have launched a war against our Mexico. Like all our fellow Mexican immigrants who are here on the “other side,” we migrated for this very reason. It is a war against the poor caused by the multinational corporations and their political lackeys.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the bad governments, from both sides of the border, and the transnational corporations are colluding in the destruction of our peoples and our lands by changing laws to allow the further exploitation and enslavement of humanity.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because unemployment and slavery jobs force us to leave our beloved people of Mexico.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the bad government’s war is killing off our culture; they want to destroy every facet of us as a community and as human beings.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the only option our country leaves for us is to risk our lives a thousand times over and leave everything behind in order to arrive in this country, the U.S., which plunders our natural resources and in this way enjoys a level of life infinitely higher than our country.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because it all occurs due to our corrupt governments, who are the lackeys of transnational corporations and who continue to kiss their feet so that they may get fat off of our poverty.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the bad government of Mexico and its employees laugh in our faces as they force us to say goodbye to our families, our community, and our beloved Mexico, when those from above exile us.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because here on the other side, we are turned into cheap labor to the benefit of the bosses, the wealthy and, in the same way, in service of the State—all of which profit from the savage exploitation of our community.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the political and economic system continues to degrade us as human beings.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because, in exchange for our labor, they implement new anti-immigrant and racist laws, murderous border walls, barriers on the Evros River, floating detention centers and armies in the Aegean Sea, assault battalions in the cities and large-scale deportations.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because we have seen how the politicians have degraded, exploited, looted, plundered, and murdered our people in Mexico and our fellow immigrant compañeros.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the transnational corporations, aided by the bad government’s war, are destroying the lands and natural resources that belong to the original peoples of our Mexico.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because we are discriminated against, humiliated, marginalized, and oppressed for being women, lesbians, transgender, gays and indigenous peoples.

Movement for Justice in El Barrio holds the bad government of Mexico and the world capitalist system directly responsible for the war that keeps us in the conditions we face as immigrants; for the war that seeks to destroy our families, children, women, men, elderly, and youth who, in reality, sustain the economy of the big cities to the benefit of the transnational corporations and bad governments in power on both sides of the border.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the war of those from above uses the mass media, controlled as they are by the bad government, to manipulate public opinion and to conceal the exploitation and true information, always to accommodate the interests of the corrupt governments.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the political and economic system, which wages a war against our population to destroy us, is the root cause and culprit for the exploitation of human beings as cheap labor.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the bad government’s war is degrading our humanity, is killing our culture, desires to enslave us in its image, and wishes to obliterate us in ever facet as a community and as human beings.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because the capitalist system moves its money from one country to another, from one continent to another, because for money there are no walls, there are no borders, there are no immigration laws. For money: freedom exists. For us: only persecution and exploitation.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because those from above want to convince workers that we represent a threat to them; that we are responsible for the oppression that their very own governments inflict upon them.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because they implement all of this to deny us our right to live a dignified life as human beings with all the rights that they don’t want us to exercise.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because we were displaced and evicted from our beloved Mexico and here we are now facing and fighting yet again displacement from our homes and community. Or, in other words, we are being doubly displaced, and for this reason, our struggle will not be stopped: it is strengthened together with our sisters and brothers of The Other Campaign.

As Mexican immigrants, we are part of The Other Campaign, the national Mexican movement – initiated by our Zapatista sisters and brothers from Chiapas, Mexico – that aims to unify all the struggles from below and to the left. This movement changes the way of doing politics by having the community as a base. We want to get rid of those thieving, corrupt, and dirty politicians from our Mexico, since all they do is plunder and leave our country in ruins. But, as our Zapatista sisters and brothers say, “If there is no world for us, by respecting our differences, we will build one in which many worlds fit.”

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because whenever the people, those from below, unite and fight against the capitalist system and political class, those from above attempt to squash our struggles as organized and autonomous peoples with repression, as they have done to members of The Other Campaign, such as our beloved sisters and brothers Zapatistas and our beloved compas from San Sebastián Bachajón.

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because instead of shelter, land, jobs, food, health, education, independence, democracy, freedom, and peace, there is superfluous brutality, violence, displacement, poverty, hunger, and repression. Instead of life, there is death.

Now, the bad government with the help of the capitalist mass media disguises this as a “war against narco-trafficking.”

As immigrants, we are sick of this shit because we know that the narco-trafficking, protected by the State, requires economic and social inequality to be able to exist, and it is precisely this inequality that has forced us to flee our country. In this way, the government makes its most subtle connection in its war against the people.

Because of all this, Movement for Justice in El Barrio, The Other Campaign New York, will join the actions that will take place from May 5-8 in Mexico and around the world against the violence perpetrated by the State.

Our protest will occur at the Mexican Consulate in New York, on Friday, May 6.

STOP CALDERÓN’S WAR!

NO MORE BLOOD!

WE ARE SICK OF THE VIOLENCE PERPETRATED BY THE STATE, ITS CORRUPT MILITARY, ITS PARAMILITARIES AND THE ARMED NARCO-TRAFFICKERS!

Montevideo, May 2, 2011.

Dear compas from Movement for Justice in El Barrio and The Other Campaign New York:

The only crime the people of the San Sebastián Bachajón ejido have committed is that of wanting to live in their lands—the lands of their grandparents, of their most distant ancestors—which now risk being appropriated by the multinationals of money and death. The five from Bachajón, imprisoned since February 3, like Patricio Domínguez Vázquez, who was detained in mid-April in the ejido Monte Redondo of Frontera Comalapa, are victims of the political class that works in the service of multinational corporations.

Today’s war is for the land: To appropriate the life that it provides for and reproduces, and for this reason, the indigenous peoples and campesinos are the primary obstacles that must be done away with. Ever since capital decided that everything is a commodity for doing business and accumulating more capital, no space on earth remains – not even the slightest corner – that can free itself from this ambition. In order to seize the land, they unleashed what the Zapatistas have termed the “Fourth World War.” In Latin American this war lies in the displacement of millions of people from roughly one hundred million hectares in dispute. The huge open-pit mining projects; the monocropping of sugarcane, maize, and soy to produce gasoline; and the planting of trees to create cellulose are all killing life and people from South to North.

In some cases, such as Patricio’s, where not only was he imprisoned, but his house was burned down and destroyed because, in reality, they wanted him to abandon his land. That is the war that has existed for 60 years in Colombia, which allowed more than four million hectares to pass from the hands of the farmers to those of the paramilitaries, since they are offered as a form of security by the multinationals. A war to expel farmers – over three million in the last twenty years – in order to free up territories so that they may be converted into spaces for the speculation of capital. In Colombia, the territories of the war coincide precisely with the territories that the big mines and infrastructure megaprojects desire.

The same thing is taking place throughout the entire continent. The Brazilian government is turning the Amazonian rivers into cheap energy sources for the big businesses from Brazil and the North. It is constructing enormous dams that require ten, fifteen, and even twenty thousand poorly paid and miserably housed workers: They are the new slaves for governments obedient to capital. When they rise up, as they did in Jirau (in the state of Roraima) last March, they become labeled as “bandits.”

What is most painful, and most revealing, is how the political class that once claimed to be of the Left unites with the perennial political class of the Right in the displacement and imprisonment of indigenous peoples and farmers, and in doing so, demonstrates that they are all the same in their attack against those from below to make businesses for those from above. And they use “ecological” arguments because they learned the politically correct excuses to downplay displacement.

From this corner of the continent, I join you who all in New York who are carrying out the campaign to free the Bachajón 5 and Patricio. Movement for Justice in El Barrio, who I was able to meet in January 2009 at the Festival of Dignified Rage in San Cristobal de las Casas, shows that community solidarity and camaraderie know no borders, and that we cannot hope for anything from those from above or their institutions. We only depend on ourselves.

Convocatoria para movilizarse el 7 y el 8 de mayo

A todas las organizaciones, colectivos e individuos de La Otra Campaña en el Distrito Federal, el Estado de México, en Puebla y Tlaxcala.
A todos los hombres y mujeres de buen corazón.

A raíz del cobarde asesinato de Juan Francisco Sicilia Ortega, Luis Antonio Romero Jaime, Julio César Romero Jaime, Gabriel Alejo Escalera, una ola de rabia e indignación se ha venido levantando en contra de quien supuestamente debe de proveer seguridad a la población: el Estado mexicano.

A cuatro años de que Felipe Calderón declaró la guerra en contra del crimen organizado, el panorama que se vislumbra en nuestro país es desolación, muerte y miedo. Esta guerra, hecha para tratar de ganar una legitimidad que nunca ha tenido, ha significado ya 40 mil mexicanos muertos, muchos de ell@s bautizad@s con el infame nombre de “bajas colaterales”.

No sólo no se han logrado los objetivos de esta guerra, sino que el paisaje que dibuja es de un país bajo tierra arrasada.

No podemos permitir que nuestr@s jóvenes sigan siendo arrastrados a la muerte.

No podemos permitir que se conforme un Estado de Excepción en México.

No podemos permitir que Felipe Calderón siga enlutando los hogares de miles de mexican@s, de much@s de l@s cuáles no sabemos ni sus nombres.

No podemos permitir que se siga destruyendo el tejido social de los pueblos, comunidades, barrios, escuelas, familias, todos ellos objetivos centrales de esta guerra.

No podemos permitir que se destruya la Nación.

Por todo esto y más, los abajo firmantes llamamos a todos los integrantes de La Otra Campaña a que nos movilicemos el sábado 7 de mayo a las 12 del día para realizar un mitin en el hemiciclo a Benito Juárez con los siguientes ejes:

Esta Acción la hemos llamado “Ahora Solo Son Pancartas…”, solo mostramos una de las fuerzas que tenemos, y avisamos al malgobierno, a los males gobiernos, que el pueblo unido jamás será vencido. Hoy solo difundimos pancartas de protesta, pero ahora ya, saben con cuales fuerzas contamos. Juntos lucharamos hasta que se liberen los presos políticos de Chiapas. Demostramos tambien que se seguira pidiendo la justicia y la fin de la violencia en Mexico con mas y mas fuerzas locales, nacionales y internacionales. Hoy se juntan nuestras voces frente a las guerras violentes, morales y sucias de los malos gobiernos de Mexico y del Mundo. A nosotros no nos callaran ni nos esconderan.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chis., 30 de abril. Al reiterar su exigencia de liberación inmediata para cinco compañeros suyos, presos desde febrero en el penal de Playas de Catazajá, secuestrados por el mal gobierno vende patria, la asamblea de ejidatarios de la otra campaña de San Sebastián Bachajón, municipio de Chilón, denunció esta semana:

El gobierno ha demostrado otra cara de violencia y represión en contra de nuestros compañeros militarizando la zona, intimidando a la sociedad con la presencia del Ejército y la Marina, como si fuera una zona de guerra, todo eso por el interés de nuestros recursos naturales y la gran riqueza que tiene nuestro ejido. Gracias al patrocinio de Felipe Calderón Hinojosa y Juan Sabines Guerrero, y sus aliados ambiciosos.

Los indígenas denunciaron también que el gobierno estatal “creó una página de Internet para organizar grupos partidistas y los de Opddic, Cenpi, Orcao, Partido Verde Ecologista y Fundación Colosio, que se hacen pasar por ‘la otra civil’, cuando la verdadera identidad es que son paramilitares encubiertos, creados por este mal gobierno para manipular la verdad y querer acabar con nuestras costumbres de hombres y mujeres dignos de defender estas tierras que nuestros antepasados nos dejaron”.

Los ejidatarios tzeltales, adherentes de la Sexta declaración de la selva Lacandona del EZLN, sostienen con severidad: La ley es la más vil cochina, ¿para qué gastan mucho dinero en senadores y diputados?. Consideran que la estrategia contra ellos es sólo una escalera del gobierno para realizar sus proyectos trasnacionales y seguir manteniéndose en su poder político y económico y destruir nuestra organización.

Exigen la liberación incondicional e inmediata de sus presos, respeto a nuestros derechos como pueblos indígenas y el ejercicio de nuestra autodeterminación, la salida inmediata de policías y militares que están dentro de nuestro territorio. Rechazan el interés de mal gobierno sobre sus proyecto neoliberales y de privatización.

Por su parte, desde la cárcel de Catazajá, los presos de Bachajón, acusados sin fundamento de delitos graves, sostuvieron en una carta a los medios: Desde hace años nos tienen perseguidos los malos gobiernos como gente indígena, organizados para defender nuestros derechos. Ya basta de la discriminación. No a los grupos paramilitares en nuestras comunidades.

Juan Aguilar Guzmán, Jerónimo Guzmán Méndez, Domingo García Gómez, Domingo Pérez Álvaro y Mariano Demeza Silvano (recluido en Villa Crisol, Berriozábal), asentaron: Nos negamos a prostituir nuestras tierras por los malos gobiernos, porque las tierras son de quien las trabaja, no para los funcionarios, mucho menos para los que están sentadotes en sus palacios. Aunque nos tengan presos, nuestros compañeros seguirán luchando y nosotros lucharemos hasta los últimos momentos.

Cabe señalar que el gobierno de Chiapas, al entregarla caseta de acceso al balneario Agua Azul a la Comisión Nacional de Áreas Protegidas, allana el camino para la expropiación forzada de una parte del territorio indígena de San Sebastián Bachajón, a pesar de que los ejidatarios rechazan la medida. Existen versiones de que en breve el área podría ser decretada área natural protegida, en beneficio de la explotación turística de las cascadas ubicadas en otro ejido (Agua Azul) y otro municipio (Tumbalá).

Aunque el camino de cuatro kilómetros que atraviesa San Sebastián, del crucero Ocosingo-Palenque a las cascadas, fue construido en tierras ejidales, ha sido presentado como presuntamente federal por las autoridades, nunca lo ha sido.

El interés proteccionista de las autoridades por un territorio tradicionalmente agrícola coincide con el hecho de que aún ahora, antes de iniciarse el proyecto turístico diseñado para la zona, este acceso a las cascadas posee un alto valor económico. Tan sólo en el periodo vacacional que está por concluir, las cascadas de Tumbalá recibieron más de 51 mil visitantes en 12 mil vehículos, a razón de 35 pesos cada uno, según la tarifa fijada por el gobierno tras despojar del puesto de peaje a los ejidatarios de San Sebastián en febrero pasado. Éstos cobraban diez pesos. Y otro tanto los pobladores de Agua Azul, que es desde hace muchos años uno de los municipios indígenas más prósperos del país, y se caracteriza por su oficialismo pertinaz.

Les queremos compartir el tercer informe sobre la convocatoria “5 Días MÀS de Acción Mundial por los 5 de Bachajón”, los días 24 al 28 de abril, respectivamente.

En el último día de los “5 Días MÁS de Acción por los 5 de  Bachajón” y en anticipación del “Día de Acción Global por la  Liberación del Preso Politíco Zapatista,” el jueves por la tarde, nos fuimos en caravana de nuestro querido Barrio a otra parte de la ciudad de Nueva York que queda muy lejos de nuestra comunidad. Nosotr@s fuimos para hacer eco al digno movimiento con las justas demandas que nuestr@s herman@s del ejido de San Sebastián Bachajón han puesto en marcha desde hace mucho tiempo. Por medio de un foro público especial, en el cual estrenamos las películas “¡Viva  México!” y el “Tercer Mensaje de San Sebastián Bachajón.” Llegamos con el propósito de difundir ampliamente información sobre la lucha digna del pueblo valiente de Bachajón y a la vez compartir la información sobre las actividades y acciones que se están realizando al nivel mundial en solidaridad con ell@s.

L@s integrantes de Movimiento tomaron turno para dar una explicación sobre todo lo que ha pasado a lo largo de los últimos meses en San Sebastián Bachajón, Chiapas. Al público presente, le platicamos de la represión brutal por parte del mal gobierno del perredista represor gobernador Juan Sabines Guerrero y del panista represor presidente Felipe Calderón. Con la película “¡Viva México!” intentamos darles a l@s activistas solidari@s que estuvieron ahí un marco histórico para entender las condiciones en las cuales salen estas luchas de abajo y a la izquierda.

También, en nuestro foro público les pedimos a tod@s l@s presentes que organicen sus propias actividades para que se multiplique la presión que estamos ejerciendo colectivamente contra el mal gobierno mexicano. Claramente exigimos, en nuestra petición, que se liberen de inmediato nuestros cinco hermanos de Bachajón y al preso político zapatista Patricio Domínguez Vázquez. Y con ello, afirmamos de nuevo nuestro compromiso de luchar hasta que se logre su liberación y que se haga justicia. O como los cinco compas nos han dicho en sus cartas, luchar “¡Hasta la victoria siempre!”

Además, repartimos copias de la “Declaración Mundial en Apoyo a los Indígenas Tseltales de San Sebastián Bachajón Adherentes a La Otra Campaña” y la gente la leyó y la firmó. Haciendo ruido que llegó hasta las calles, nosotr@s concluimos el evento con consignas de  “¡Libertad, libertad a los presos por luchar!,  “¡Presos  políticos, libertad!”, y “¡La tierra no se vende, se ama y se defiende!”.

Para nosotr@s toda esta lucha por la comunidad de Bachajón –por la autonomía indígena, por la tierra y el agua, por la dignidad humana– sigue llenandonos de animo para continuar luchando. Con el dolor, la rabia, y la esperanza avanzamos hacia adelante dia tras dia y vamos juntando nuestros esfuerzos, imparables, como las Cascadas de Agua Azul.

Muy cariñosamente queremos agradecerles a tod@s que se sumaron a los “5 Días MÁS de Acción Mundial por los 5 de Bachajón” y al “Día de Acción Global por La Liberación del Preso Politico Zapatista.” Muchos grupos y colectivos y personas de buen corazón alrededor del mundo se aliaron para llevar a cabo a estas dos campañas. Nos llena de orgullo que se hayan realizado tantas acciones realizadas durante estos días. También nos motivan a seguir luchando por la liberación de nuestros 5 compañeros de Bachajón y de nuestro compañero Patricio Domínguez Vázquez, quienes permanecen como rehenes del Estado; como presos políticos injustamente detenidos y en pésimas condiciones de encierro. Queremos que tod@s sepan que nosotr@s tomamos en serio el lema de La Otra Campaña: “Si nos tocan a un@, nos tocan a tod@s.”  Es así que creemos que las luchas de tod@s l@s que hacen La Otra Campaña son nuestras, y que su sufrimiento es nuestro también. No vamos a parar de luchar. Seguimos en pie de lucha, hasta que nuestros hermanos respiren de nuevo aire libre.

Demand for the Release of the Five Ejidatorios of San Sebastián Bachajón, Chiapas, México and of Patricio Domínguez Vázquez, of the ejido of Monte Redondo.

Dear Compas,

With this fraternal greeting, we offer you our support, and our participation in the campaign “5 days of Action for the 5 of Bachajón,” demanding the immediate release of the political prisoners of  Bachajón, and their right to self-determination and independence.

We deplore the numerous violations of your rights in the pursuit of neoliberal plundering of the natural resources of Agua Azul, a common patrimony cared for and protected for centuries by the indigenous peoples of your ejido.for the enjoyment by all – not for the exploitation by a few.

We equally deplore the use of federal, state and municipal forces to turn the Agua Azul region into a three-top circus for tourists, whereby the indigenous peoples will become little more than side-shows under military command, stripped of their dignity, freedom, and way of life.

We therefore demand the immediate withdrawal of military, paramilitary, and police forces from the entire region, such that the natural treasure of Agua Azul is returned to the common ownership from which it has been wrested, and the rights of the ejidatorios of San Sebastián Bachajón. are upheld.

We have delivered a letter to the Mexican Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand making demands on your behalf, and one of our members tried to deliver a letter to the Mexican Consulate in Amman, Jordan doing the same. While the Wellington letter was successfully delivered, the Mexican Consulate in Jordan must have got wind of us, and fled – their Consulate has closed down!! So we can only show a photo of the letter fluttering from the rooftop in Amman, and hope they have the foresight to read it!
