The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation released six more involved in the masacre of Acteal

The first court decided yesterday to resume its original jurisdiction and determine the innocence of Juan Santis Vasquez, Lorenzo Gómez Jiménez, Mariano Pérez Jiménez, Agustín Pérez Gómez, José Ruiz Tzucut, and Bartolo Luna López Pérez or Bartolo Pérez, sentenced for the crimes of homicide and aggravated assault.

A un año del feminicidio de Tatiana Trujillo su familia denuncia la posible liberación del asesino

April 19, 2011, was the one-year aniversary of the death of Tatiana Trujillo Rodríguez, murdered by her hustand Elmar Darinel Díaz Solórzano, former federal deputy and PRI candidate as local deputy in 2010, who fled after committing the crime. Three months later he was detained for qualified homicide. However, he has still not been sentenced. On March 10, the federal court granted him an “amparo”, and he is likely to be released soon. In a press conference at the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center, Tatiana’s family denounced the impunity and injustice.

Mexican government continues covering up the massacre at Viejo Velasco

A member of the organization Xinich explains how the government has obstructed the identification of the 4 people missing in the massacre and eviction from Viejo Velasco, in November 2006. He also explains that there are 15 evicted families still waiting to return to their lands.

Conferencia de prensa del pueblo Ch’ol de Tila, Chiapas

Representatives from Ejido Tila and members of Frayba gave a press conference on 8 Feb 2011 to share the current situtation on the defense of their land and territory. The dispossession of 130 hectares of ejido Tila, by the Chiapas state governor, the Congress of the State, Registro público de la propiedad y del comercio and the municipal government of Tila, will be analyzed by the Mexican Supreme Court. Because of this, the authorities of Tila will have an audience with the Minister Olga María del Carmen Sánchez Cordero on 8 Feb 2011 to argue on the importance of protecting the indigenous Ch’ol territory of Tila.
