In the United States We’re Tired Too

This December 3, 2014, more than 43 cities in the US will mobilize in solidarity with the 43 students dissappeared and 3 murdered from the Escuela Normal Rural de Ayotzinapa. The mobilization aims not only at expressing support and solidarity with the students from Ayotzinapa and their families and denouncing the Mexican state’s responsibility. The goal is also to demand the US government to stop the Plan Mexico or Merida Initiative, which has supplied billions of dollars in military and political support to Mexico’s security forces. Como parte de la #AcciónGlobalPorAyotzinapa convocada por los familiares y compañeros de los estudiantes desaparecidos de la Normal de Ayotzinapa, este 20 de noviembre se realizaron manifestaciones solidarias tanto en México, como en muchas ciudades del mundo.

Ríos de gente con un destino común

En la Ciudad de México, tuvieron lugar tres marchas con destino al Zócalo capitalino. Además, durante todo el día, hubo distintas manifestaciones, entre ellas, la que se llevó a cabo afuera de Televisa Chapultepec por parte de estudiantes de la Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, la Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México (UACM) y la Preparatoria número 7 de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); otra que tuvo lugar en la puerta principal de la Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP), donde estudiantes del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) levantaron un muro con tabiques y concreto; y una más en las cercanías del Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México, en la que cientos de estudiantes de diversas escuelas, intentaron bloquear el acceso al mismo, cosa que lograron parcialmente con la ayuda involuntaria del gran despliegue policiaco que en teoría debía evitarlo. En ésta última movilización, tuvieron lugar los primeros enfrentamientos y las primeras detenciones de la jornada.

Since the 26th of September 2014 Mexico looked at itself and the world once again turned to see an unconcealable reality that made itself present in most terrible way. Iguala is the place in which the Mexico of pain and death became unable to evade its own reality, the place that has filled the entire world with indignation, the place in which an open secret became a cry of pain and rage.

43 disappeared students, three murdered students, two young athletes murdered, one murdered woman. All of them murdered and disappeared in Iguala, all of them murdered and disappeared by the State. All of them murdered and disappeared by the pact of impunity of the political class.

Although right now it seems insufficient to speak of impunity because the institutions that should enforce justice not only fail to do so but they protect themselves from their own crimes. In reality we are facing a system that always finds how and who to punish, in an exemplary and spectacular manner (guilty or innocent), in order to maintain intact the great business of corruption and the brutal power structures that keep the entire country submerged in violence.

Registro sonoro del paso de la Caravana por Ayotzinapa en Cuernavaca, Morelos

En su paso por Cuernavaca antes de arribar al centro del país el próximo 20 de noviembre, los padres de estudiantes desaparecidos de la Normal de Ayotzinapa compartieron su rabia, sus palabras y su anhelo de que México encuentre en esta tragedia la luz que le permita primero señalar y luego salir de la barbarie contemporánea. Si Ayotzinapa es el espejo de la sociedad que dejamos que creciera ante nuestros ojos, en estas palabras se desborda la esperanza de trazar un límite ahora sí definitivo: “Ya abrieron los ojos y esperamos que no los vuelvan a cerrar”, auguró un normalista de Ayotzinapa:

Oaxaca de Magón, 17 de noviembre. La jornada de actividades políticas de la brigada “Daniel Solís Gallardo” en la capital de Chiapas, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, inició el 15 de noviembre por la tarde con un foro en la escuela normal rural de Mactumactzá con la sociedad civil y otras organizaciones, ahí participaron compañeros normalistas de Ayotzinapa de la academia de cuarto año, así como un compañero de primer año, sobreviviente del atentado de la policía municipal de Iguala, Guerrero.

El foro realizado por la brigada informativa transcurrió en aproximadamente 5 horas, en donde testimonios de los normalistas, se entrelazaron con mensajes de las más de 20 organizaciones que solidariamente acudieron al llamado que la normal de Mactumactzá lanzó para escuchar a los estudiantes de Ayotzinapa, el foro fue la cancha techada de la escuela normal rural ubicada en la capital de Chiapas.

We thank you with all our heart for sharing your word with us.

We know that in order to bring us your word directly, without intermediaries or outside interpretations, you had to travel many hours and endure fatigue, hunger, and exhaustion.

We also know that for you this sacrifice is part of the duty that you feel.

It is the duty to not abandon the compañeros disappeared by the bad governments, to not sell them out, to not forget them.

It is because of this duty that you began your struggle, even when no one was paying any attention and the disappeared brothers were being called “amateurs”, “rabble rousers” “future delinquents who deserved what they got,” “agent provocateurs,” radicals,” “hicks,” and “agitators.”
