Mujeres, niñas y niños del Pueblo Maya Tsotsil, integrantes de La organización Sociedad Civil Las Abejas de Acteal, de la comunidad Miguel Utrilla, Los Chorros, en Chenalhó, Chiapas, Méxicofueron desplazados el día 16 de septiembre de 2019. Suman 36 personas en desplazamiento forzado que se encuentran en Acteal, Casa de la Memoria y la Esperanza. Las primeras familias se refugiaron en la sede de la organización desde el 10 de agosto del presente año.

Las Abejas de Acteal persisten en la exigencia de justicia y desde su apuesta de paz, exigen condiciones para el retorno con seguridad de las 6 familias.

Hoy denunciamos públicamente que, ayer, las compañeras, niñas y niños del barrio “Río Jordán” de la colonia Miguel Utrilla Los Chorros, se vieron obligadas a desplazarse en Acteal, sede de nuestra Organización Las Abejas de Acteal, porque sus condiciones de vida se empeoraron, porque el mismo presidente municipal de Chenalhó y el agente del barrio “Río Jordán” prohibieron el acceso de alimentos y la gente partidista de esa localidad amenazó a las familias de buen corazón quienes les dieron casa y comida a nuestras compañeras y niñas y niños, de cortarles el agua, la electricidad y de destruirles también sus casas, si seguían ahí nuestras compañeras.

Preparations for the Puy Ta Cuxlejaltic Film Festival, a CompArte Focused on Dance, and the Second International Gathering for Women in Struggle

Twenty-six years ago, in 1993, the Zapatista women wrote the “Women’s Revolutionary Law.” In one of the articles of the law, they declared they had a right to study… “and even to be drivers,” as noted by SupMarcos in a public letter commemorating the anniversary of the law and the role of the late Comandanta Ramona and Comandanta Susana in the creation of the women’s law. Maybe someday we’ll learn why the indigenous Zapatista Women aspired to be drivers. But for now, the EZLN’s Sixth Commission presents an exclusive preview of the documentaries to be premiered by the Terci@s Compas [Zapatista media] on a still to-be-determined date. Here goes:

Title: “…And Even to be Drivers”

A documentary filmed entirely in the mountains of Southeastern Mexico in 2019. Written, directed, and produced by Zapatista women, this documentary compiles scenes of Zapatista compañeras learning to drive. Duration: undetermined. Format: unknown. Rating: Z (as it should be). It won’t come out on Netflix, nor on Amazon Prime, nor on Apple TV, nor on HBO, nor Fox, nor…what are the other options? Well, not on any of those either. Nor will it be shown in theaters. It will be shown exclusively in the Zapatista Caracoles… Oh, also at the Second International Gathering for Women in Struggle? Should I include that? Got it. But without any date or location? Okay. But people are going to complain that I’m leaving them hanging. Couldn’t we at least give them a hint, like a road sign? No, not for the actual road, I mean like an idea of potentially when and where… in December? Of this year? Hello? Helloooooo? Feeling low? Huh, well it looks like they left, but I can tell you they don’t look low at all… in fact they had a glint in their eye, in their gaze, like a goal, or a challenge—a rebellion, really. A Zapatista glint, that is.

Disclaimer: no men were hurt in the production of this documentary. Well actually there were, but only in the form of a few blows to the ego. Oh, and also a few who fell as they were running away from a compañera who got pissed because they were yelling stuff at the women learning to drive… no, it wasn’t me, I was watching from a ways away, I wasn’t going to find myself in the vicinity of that piece of lead pipe she was carrying… yee-haw…

Apocalyptic Synopsis: A virus produced in the laboratories of the Illuminati is released in the mountains of Southeastern Mexico. For some strange reason, it only affects those law-breakers who call themselves Zapatista women. The virus causes them to do strange and illogical things—they rebel, they resist, and they take over jobs and responsibilities that should be the exclusive domain of men. This documentary compiles evidence of this insubordination, and you can see exactly how the Zapatista women consider themselves not only to be free but also—you’re not going to believe this—even to be drivers. Note from SupGaleano: Here there should be a photo slide show from the new CRAREZ [Centers of Autonomous Zapatista Resistance and Rebellion] which were announced as part of the breaking of the siege on August 17, 2019. This video will likely be removed by Mr. YouTube since it is set to a song by Ana Tijoux (Chilean-French) and Shadia Mansour (Palestinian) entitled “Somos Sur,” [We are the South] and supposedly we either have to pay royalties or accept advertising. We are not of course going to accept advertising, and if there’s no money for water tanks for the new caracol Tulan Kaw, then there’s certainly no money to pay royalties. In any case, the Sixth Commission does not “monetize” our videos (plus, the traffic on our channel is like the traffic during semana santa (Easter) in Mexico City), so I doubt Mr. YouTube is going to end up any less rich because of our refusal to accept advertisement, nor are Ana Tijoux and Shadia Mansour going to lose artistic quality or followers because we have accompanied their rebellion with ours.

Maybe instead of taking down the videos that people set to music—as Zapata didn’t say, “music belongs to those who sing/dance/hum/bounce/whisper/shout and spread it (and like Shadia Mansour says, rapping in Arabic: “music is the mother tongue of the world”)—Mr. YouTube should work on his damned algorithm (“Oh, the twisted lines of YouTube”i). You know how it goes, you start out looking for videos of the guys from Botellita de Jerez to pay homage to the memory of Armando Vega Gil, or you search for ska from Los de Abajo, or Salón Victoria, or some tracks from Jijos del Mais, or Van T, or Mexican Sound, or LenguaAlerta, or Lirica, or Ely Guerra, or Keny Arkana, or the Batallones Femeninos, or from those masters Oscar Chávez and Guillermo Velázquez and Los Leones de la Sierra de Xichú, and all of a sudden you’re getting bombarded with videos of rodeos, cockfights, Maluma giving classes on how to respect women, or makeup videos (“now we’re going to learn how to do makeup for a ‘no makeup’ selfie”).

It’s not that we’re being fussy—after all, like Inodoro Pereyra said (or was it Mendieta?), “Broad and Alien is the World”ii—but rather that here, bandwidth is about as broad as Trump’s IQ: paltry, in other words.

Given all of the above, if YouTube removes the video because of its soundtrack (like it already did with Princess Mononoke, apparently because Studio Ghibli decided to side with the system instead of with natureiii), we’ll repost the same photo slideshow here but without music, and you can add the music yourselves. In fact, I’ll include the translation from Arabic to Spanish of Shadia Mansour’s rap (based on the contribution from the user qmqz posted on the official music video) [TN: translated here in English]:

And if Mr. YouTube takes the whole thing down as part of the “fuck the Zapatistas now” campaign, oh well, we’ll just go back to the good old days of the Zapatista Intergalactic Television System, “the only television channel that you read” (Permit 69, currently being processed by the Good Government Councils, submitted as of 1996 but caracoles move slooooooooowly….).

Hermanas y hermanos:
La Organización de la Sociedad Civil de Las Abejas de Acteal a través de su Mesa Directiva, junto con las y los sobrevivientes de la Masacre de Acteal, hoy nos encontramos en la Tierra Sagrada, para conmemorar y denunciar el crimen de Estado cometido aquí por un grupo de paramilitares priistas en contra de las 45 hermanas y hermanos nuestros y más los 4 bebés que nunca vieron la luz del mundo, pero sí su maldad, el 22 de diciembre de 1997.

Insistimos, en que la Masacre de Acteal se cometió en el marco del Plan de Campaña Chiapas 94, implementado por el entonces Gral. Mario Renán Castillo, Comandante de la VII Región Militar. Y Ernesto Zedillo lo llamó “resultado de un conflicto intercomunitario”.

Es necesario señalar que dicha masacre fue antecedida de hechos previos como de destrucción de casas, robo de pertenencias, cobro de cuotas para comprar armas, municiones y pago a los paramilitares y, así generaron desplazamientos forzados contra miembros de nuestra Organización Las Abejas y de bases del Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) y toda esta violencia la denunciamos 7 meses antes del 22 de diciembre de 1997, incluso una comisión de Las Abejas fue a advertirle al presidente municipal de Chenalhó Jacinto Arias Cruz del ejido Puebla, que controlara a su gente armada y evitar un hecho lamentable, sin embargo, nos respondió que nosotros estábamos
provocando la violencia.

Habrán lectores de nuestros comunicados que dirán, “este testimonio ya lo he leído en otras ocaciones”, pero, es que los hechos que antecedieron a la Masacre de Acteal hace casi 22 años, se están repitiendo en estos momentos en el barrio Río Jordán de la colonia Miguel Utrilla Los Chorros, cuna de paramilitares, prueba de ello es la destrucción de casas, causando desplazamiento forzado a compañeros de Las Abejas de dicha localidad,

el pasado 10 de agosto y denunciado públicamente el 12 de agosto en San Cristóbal de Las Casas, durante nuestra Marcha-Peregrinación para denunciar los 10 años de la liberación de los paramilitares por la mal llamada “Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación”.

La masacre de Acteal fue antecedida por una serie de agresiones a los miembros de nuestra Organización Las Abejas, así también a las bases del EZLN, como un incendio que empieza con pequeñas manchas de fuego y que los gobiernos municipal, estatal y federal, bien hubieran podido evitar, pero no lo hicieron, porque era ese su plan, el Plan de Campaña Chiapas 94.

En el caso de la agresión reciente y desplazamiento forzado de nuestros compañeros de Las Abejas del barrio Río Jordán de la colonia Miguel Utrilla Los Chorros, cometido por paramilitares del Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM), también se debió evitar, porque en el año de 2015 cuando suscitó este conflicto, las autoridades de Las Abejas de Acteal, fueron a avisarle a la presidenta municipal de Chenalhó en ese entonces la Lic. Rosa Pérez Pérez del PVEM, y no hizo nada para atender dicho problema.

Del mismo modo fuimos a hablar con el actual presidente de Chenalhó, Abraham Cruz Gómez también del PVEM y quien fungió como Tesorero municipal de la presidenta Rosa Pérez, originario de la colonia Puebla y familiar del expresidente Jacinto Arias Cruz, responsable de la Masacre de Acteal, para comunicarle que el conflicto en el barrio Río Jordán no se ha solucionado y hay rumores que nuestros compañeros pueden ser agredidos a lo que el presidente municipal nos respondió que iba a comunicarse con el agente municipal de Río Jordán, fue lo mismo su respuesta como la de su antecesora nos dio en el año de 2015.

Ahora, tanto el presidente municipal de Chenalhó, como el agente del barrio Río Jordán,andan declarando en un diario local “El Heraldo de Chiapas” que no es nada grave lo que le hicieron a nuestros compañeros que “únicamente son daños menores en sus domicilios, sin causarles daños en su totalidad”, y cubren sus agresiones con que nuestros compañeros “no cumplieron con cargos en la comunidad y que se han negado en cooperar para mejorar el lugar”.

Ya lo hemos aclarado muchas veces que nuestros compañeros fueron agredidos porque no aceptaron un programa de construcción de sistema de drenaje y cargos de comité de clínica de salud que NO les BENEFICIA, porque en ese centro sólo se atienden a mujeres que son beneficiadas por el programa asistencialista “PROSPERA” y hay un acuerdo de esa localidad que las familias que no usen esa casa de salud no tienen la obligación de dar servicio.

Y nuestros compañeros Sí ACEPTAN los cargos que sí son comunitarios y que se benefician de ello, como el de agua potable, luz eléctrica, calles, entre otros. Y sin embargo, en el 2015 como represalia, los partidistas les cortaron el suministro de agua y de electricidad a nuestros compañeros y compañeras. Estos hechos de discriminación que afectó a mujeres y niños fue informado en el 2017 al Relator de agua y saneamiento de la ONU, Leo Heller en su visita a Chiapas.

Ahora nuestros compañeros se encuentran desplazados forzadamente, porque ni el gobierno estatal ni el presidente municipal, tienen voluntad de escucharnos, sólo vemos cómo se está escalando la violencia y estas autoridades oficiales del municipio de Chenalhó y su gente partidista, se jactan y dicen que no tiene nada que ver como en el año de 1997, es decir “si no aceptan cargos y programas asistencialistas que no les beneficia a nuestros compañeros, pueden ser destruidos sus casas o hasta pueden ser asesinados, y no pasa nada”.

Compañeras y compañeros quienes sí nos entienden y comprenden, que esta situación actual que sufrimos y vivimos, es por la impunidad en la Masacre de Acteal, porque después de la liberación de los paramilitares autores materiales de la Masacre de Acteal por la mal llamada SCJN, estos asesinos, fueron premiados con dinero, casas y tierras. Actualmente los paramilitares y partidistas tanto de la colonia Miguel Utrilla Los Chorros como de la colonia Puebla también se dicen estar orgullosos de “robar, quemar casas y matar, es bien pagado por el gobierno”. Miguel Utrilla Los Chorros y Colonia Puebla cuna de paramilitares, hoy siguen siendo lugar de violencia e impunidad.

Las agresiones y la violencia que ha regresado explícitamente en Chenalhó fue sembrada en este municipio por Jacinto Arias expresidente municipal, y es un pequeño reflejo de cómo en nuestro país está sumergido de violencia, de odio y de caos.

Nos indigna leer y ver en las redes sociales cómo se ha subido de nivel el asesinato y violaciones sexuales a las mujeres y niñas, esto es absurdo, es una barbarie. En la Masacre de Acteal fueron asesinadas 4 mujeres embarazadas y les sacaron con machetes sus bebés, por eso siempre mencionamos “45 más 4 no nacidos”. Estos feminicidios es un mensaje del sistema capitalista a través de la guerra de exterminio, matar y humillar a las mujeres es matar la semilla de la vida.Pero, a pesar de todo, aunque nos humillen, nos calumnien y nos ignoren, aquí vamos a estar, nadie nos podrá callar.

El nombre de Acteal Casa de la Memoria y Esperanza, no es un adorno, así le pusimos, porque vimos que eso somos y nuestra Lucha No Violenta de más de 26 años no la hemos cambiado por otro método de lucha.

El 12 de agosto pasado, mencionamos que de las compañeras que optaron quedarse y resistir en la colonia Los Chorros, una de ellas estaba embarazada y hace unos días ya dio a luz una niña, esto nos habla que la vida no se detiene ni con las mentiras y la violencia de los partidistas del barrio Río Jordán, ni con los feminicidios inhumanos.

Bajo este tenor, saludamos a nuestras hermanas y hermanos del EZLN por su reproducción de más Caracoles y Municipios Autónomos, reconocemos que es el fruto de mucha organización y de trabajo en colectivo, compañeras y compañeros cuiden su Semilla, así la nuestra la de la Vida, de la Esperanza y de la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad, la seguiremos cuidando.

Hermanos, Hermanas, Hermanoas:

Compañeras, Compañeros, Compañeroas:

We bring you our word. The same word as yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It is the word of resistance and rebellion.

In October of 2016, almost three years ago, during the 20^th anniversary of the National Indigenous Congress [CNI], the sister organizations of the National Indigenous Congress and the EZLN made a commitment to go on the offensive in our defense of our Territory and Mother Earth. Persecuted by the bad government, by caciques, by foreign corporations, by criminals, and by the law, and as we accumulated insults, derision, and dead, we the originary peoples (the guardians of the earth), decided to go on the offensive and circulate the words and actions of resistance and rebellion.

With the founding of the Indigenous Governing Council [CIG] and the selection of its spokesperson, Marichuy, the National Indigenous Congress gave itself the job of taking words of warning and organization to the brothers and sisters of the city and countryside. Meanwhile, the EZLN also went on the offensive in its struggle with its words, ideas, and organization.

The time has come to hold ourselves accountable to the CNI-CIG and its spokesperson so that their peoples can decide if we have lived up to what we promised. But it is not only the CNI-CIG that we are accountable to; we also have a pending debt with the organizations, groups, collectives, and individuals (especially those in the Sixth and the Networks [of Rebellion and Resistance], but not only them) that throughout Mexico and the world concern themselves with our Zapatista peoples. These are people who, whatever their calendars, geographies, and habits may be, disregard the walls, borders, and sieges that are erected to divide us so that their hearts can continue to beat close to our own.

Nobody knows for sure how it all started. Not even the Tercios Compas [Zapatista media], who took up the task of reconstructing the sequence of events, could pinpoint the exact moment and event in which the story I’m about to tell you began.

According to one version, SubGaleano is responsible for everything. Others say SubGaleano only started it and it was Subcomandante Insurgente Moisés who took it to completion.

See, what happened was that in one of his texts, SubGaleano mentioned a February 2011 program in which the journalist Carmen Aristegui asked if then-president Felipe Calderón Hinojosa was an alcoholic, and added that the nation should be informed about the health of the president. She was fired in retaliation. Up to that point in the story there is no disagreement—and you can confirm that’s what happened by referring to news articles from that time.

The problem really begins when SubGaleano added something like, “Madness, as pointed out by a misunderstood sage of the human soul, is like gravity: all it takes is a little push. To hold Power unlawfully is just that irresistible push that all those above long for, and it begins with three simple words, “I rule here.” If you think anyone in the media is going to question whether the current president is lacking in any of his mental faculties (let’s be clear, he didn’t say “crazy”), don’t hold your breath, because nobody will dare to do so.”

We who subscribe this letter – workers in the social sciences, the arts and the humanities, activists and feminists – we come together to express our genuine concern for what is happening in Mexico and specifically for what is happening in Chiapas and in the indigenous regions where the Zapatistas, members of the original people, tribes and nations that are part of the National Indigenous Congress (CNI) live.

The incarnate struggle of resistance against capitalism, machismo and patriarchy of the Zapatistas and the National Indigenous Congress (CNI) have inspired and continues to inspire us. Their struggle is like a mirror where we can reflect, that encourages us to walk in an incarnated way, in our own places, times and ways, in our own struggles for autonomy and against all those dominations, violences, dispossessions, discriminations and exploitations that manifest in a thousand forms in indigenous and not indigenous territories.

We are actively awaiting and walking in many places and sharing what we have (un)learned looking at your 25 and 500 years of collective resistances.

We add our voice to those who affirm that the current Mexican government’s strategy is one strategy of war more than for security and we agree with the criticisms against ongoing Mexican nationalist development projects for the Mayan region and the Tehuantepec Isthmus (Istmo de Tehuantepec). We are outraged by the murder of women, young people; and indigenous and black communities’ leaders in México and all over Abya Yala.

All of this not only worries us, but also encourages us to carry out different actions in different spaces as our incarnate support to the Jornadas por la Vida contra la Guerra (Campaign for Life and against the War).

That is why we shout with a strong collective voice: !The war against the Zapatistas, the CNI members and the indigenous and black peoples of all over Abya Yala, must stop now!

Este es un mensaje de preocupación por la vida, por la dignidad. Los que firmamos esta carta estamos preocupados por lo que está pasando, nuevamente, en aquel rincón olvidado del sureste mexicano que se convirtió en el corazón de la esperanza y la rebeldía, Chiapas.

Este no es un manifiesto ideológico ni una declaratoria de postura frente a los cambios políticos que están ocurriendo en México, es un mensaje de genuina preocupación por lo que se siente que se avecina en ese abajo que después de 25 años, de 500 años, sigue resistiéndose al exterminio y al olvido. Nos preocupan aquellos que durante un cuarto de siglo han luchado por su autonomía, que han puesto la dignidad por encima del pragmatismo político, que han sido un ejemplo de libertad en un mundo encadenado por el miedo, nos preocupan los Zapatistas.

Nos preocupa enterarnos de la creciente actividad militar en los territorios de las comunidades Zapatistas. Vemos que en medio de la compleja situación de seguridad que vive México, el camino de la militarización del país está tomando más fuerza aún. Es una señal de alerta que bajo la muy cuestionada estrategia en torno a la Guardia Nacional, ésta sea como ha ocurrido tantas veces una fuerza de “seguridad” que no distinga entre crimen y resistencia, entre crueldad y digna rebeldía. Es contradictorio que cuando los datos del propio Gobierno de México indican que la zona Zapatista es de las de más bajo índice delictivo, la estrategia de seguridad se dirija de manera amenazante ante esas zonas que son de los pocos santuarios de libertad y seguridad para el México de abajo. Eso más que una estrategia de seguridad parece una estrategia de guerra.

Aunque entre los firmantes estemos un conjunto diverso de personas que podemos ver la administración de Andrés Manuel López Obrador con esperanza o escepticismo, todos somos personas que soñamos con un Mundo distinto, mejor. Los que nos sumamos a estas palabras creemos que un cambio en México no puede ocurrir bajo una sombra de pragmatismo político, cediendo ante presiones que llevan al autoritarismo, al despojo y a la violencia en beneficio del 1%, ni con la descalificación de voces críticas que con su autenticidad y consistencia se han ganado el respeto del mundo.

Vemos un proceso creciente de hostilidad hacia resistencias auténticas, históricas y legítimas que se oponen a proyectos como el Tren Maya, el Corredor Transístmico y el Plan Integral Morelos, entre otros. Nos preocupa enterarnos de los recientes homicidios de integrantes del Congreso Nacional Indígena y del Consejo Indígena de Gobierno. Nos preocupa la posibilidad de que esta nueva administración, como sus antecesores, liberales o conservadores, nuevamente orille a los pueblos indígenas al borde del exterminio.

El mundo está mirando con ojos y corazón lo que pasa en México y en Chiapas.

¡Alto a la guerra contra los Zapatistas y los Pueblos Indígenas de México!
