On March 7, in the context of the International Women’s Day, an encounter was organized at Cideci/UniTierra Chiapas to condemn the Mexican State’s irresponsiveness toward gender violence and feminicide in Chiapas.

On March 8, a march took place from the administrative center to the Plaza of the Resistance, in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.

At the same time, a press confrence took place at the TierrAdentro Cultural Center, in the name of the organizations that are part of the People’s Campaign against Violence to Women and Feminicide in Chiapas. Here are the audios from the press conference:

La Junta de Buen Gobierno del caracol de Morelia denunció que el jueves 30 de enero, unos 300 miembros de la CIOAC Democrática, a bordo de 18 camionetas, agredieron gravemente a bases de apoyo zapatistas en el ejido 10 de Abril, del municipio autónomo 17 de Noviembre. Los zapatistas pidieron auxilio al hospital San Carlos, en Altamirano, pero los agresores no dejaron pasar a la ambulancia, desnudaron y agredieron a las monjas a bordo, y secuestraron la ambulancia y una camioneta.

Atentado policial a Francisco Kuykendall, el herido de San Lázaro

This January 15, representatives from Ejido Tila in northern Chiapas denounced yet another attempt at dispossession by municipal authorities. On January 20, the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center published a communiqué denouncing a maneuver by the authorities to legalize the dispossession by means of a supposed citizen consultation (read the communiqué in Spanish below).

We spoke with Araceli Olivos Portugal, a lawyer from the Human Rights Center, who explained the situation.
