To the Peoples of the World
Gathered together in the Constitutive Assembly of the Indigenous Council for Mexico at CIDECI–UNITIERRA, Chiapas, the indigenous peoples, nations, and tribes who make up the National Indigenous Congress and the Zapatista Army for National Liberation say to the Wixárika people that we stand together, that your pain and rage are also ours, and that the path of your historic struggle is part of the hope we have as a country and as a world.
We repudiate and condemn the cowardly murder of the compañeros Miguel Vázquez Torres and Agustín Vázquez Torres of the Wixárika community of Waut+a- Saint Sebastian Teponahuaxtlán in the state of Jalisco on May 20 of the present year at the hands of the mercenaries of organized crime. This crime could not have happened without the absolute complicity of the bad governments on all levels, given that the riches of the Wixárika lands are coveted by the powers of capital which know no limits and which use their narco-paramilitary groups to try to dismantle an organization as exemplary as that of the Wixaritari.
We know they will not achieve this; they have never been able to and never will because the fabric that keeps the originary peoples alive also sustains the hope we are building together in order that a new world be born of resistance, rebellion, and the determination to keep existing.
We salute the exemplary defense of the territory that the compañero Miguel led, without ever turning back, as well as the paths the Saint Sebastian community is forging to recuperate nearly 10 thousand hectares invaded by ranchers, supposed small landowners from Huajimic, Nayarit. These ranchers are protected by the capitalist governments’ determination to pretend to dialogue while preparing a bloody end to this conflict, disguising it as drug cartel activity, as unclear state or municipal borders, as lying “task forces”i, as complicated judicial proceedings, or as supposed budget limitations.
Wixaritari compañeras and compañeros, we are with you and we know that the steps you collectively decide to take will be wise and dignified. We will not be indifferent nor oblivious to the support and solidarity that we have mutually shared on the CNI’s historic path.
We emphatically demand the solving of this crime against a whole people, punishment of the guilty, and the dismantling of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and all the criminal capitalist corporations that seek to take over the territories and autonomous organization that we peoples, nations, and tribes defend.
We demand that the the ancestral territories of the Wixárika people be wholly respected, that the territory invaded on the outskirts of Huajimic, Nayarit, be urgently restored [to the people], and that the forms of security and justice decided upon and exercised by the community of Waut+a- Saint Sebastian Teponahuaxtlán be fully respected.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. 27 de mayo. “Aquí hasta el más humilde es escuchado y tomado en cuenta”, comenta el suplente del comisariado del Ejido Tila, quien junto con sus compañer@s se han dado cita en la Asamblea Constitutiva, del Consejo Indígena de Gobierno (CIG), convocada por los pueblos originarios que integran el Congreso Nacional Indígena (CNI), en México, en el Cideci Unitierra Chiapas. “Este camino vale la pena, todos pueden opinar para construir el CIG, y que sea algo plural, que no haya líder. No habrá otro camino que nos dejará salir de los planes del mal gobierno”, asegura el indígena chol.
Al principio con la propuesta del CNI, de crear un CIG y que su vocera fuera candidata a las elecciones presidenciales en 2018, en Tila hubo alguna incertidumbre sobre que podrían caer en el mismo sistema de los partidos, comparte el vocero indígena. “Algunas personas temían que este es la misma vía que hace el capitalismo con sus elecciones; pero no nos importa ganar o perder, lo que queremos es organizarnos. Esta duro batallar contra el gobierno. Pero si se unen los pueblos indígenas es mejor”, aseguró el también adherente a la Sexta.
Con respecto a cómo tomó el ejido Tila, el que se postule a una mujer indígena como candidata a las elecciones del 2018 por parte del CNI, el campesino originario del norte de Chiapas indicó que muchos lo tomaron bien, que ya es tiempo que sobresalgan, que hay que involucrar a la mujeres que son más comprometidas, “el hombre es más débil, es fácil debilitarlo, en cambio las mujeres no”, compartió el representante ejidal.
Por su parte el comisariado ejidal de Tila, comentó que ante el nuevo proceso de Autonomía ejidal, que están viviendo desde el 16 de diciembre de 2015, cuando decidieron retirar al ayuntamiento de sus tierras, han tenido avances en materia de seguridad, sanitaria, de justicia y recuperación de sus tradiciones. Sobre su asistencia a la asamblea del CNI, indicó que se sienten apoyados ya que “el gobierno se da cuenta de que no estamos solos, que no dependemos de él”, enfatizó. “Sin el ayuntamiento no nos morimos de hambre”, destaca el indígena chol.
“El ayuntamiento tenía mucho dinero pero donde esta ese dinero? donde lo invirtieron?; nosotros buscamos como avanzar, pero como autoridad ejidal lo hacemos con la asamblea. Ahora nos están persiguiendo con órdenes de aprensión, por trabajar por nuestros hijos. También el gobierno nos ofreció 47 millones de pesos para el ejido, pero lo rechazamos por que la tierra es nuestra y va a servir para nuestros nietos”, asegura el luchador social chiapaneco. “El presidente municipal de Tila Leopoldo Gómez, organizó gente de afuera para intimidarnos, espantarnos y humillarnos. Nos quieren entrar a pelear pero nosotros queremos la paz social”, aseguró el comisariado ejidal.
Recientemente los integrantes del CNI, denunciaron que gente ajena al ejido Tila ofrecían pagar hasta 5000 pesos, para entrar en el ejido y despojar a los y las adherentes a la Sexta. Los ejidatarios de Tila, toman con cautela la decisión del Congreso del estado de cambiar la sede el ayuntamiento a la comunidad del Limar, esto hasta que no vean la construcción del nuevo ayuntamiento en la comunidad vecina. Los indígenas choles declaran que no se confiaran en la información “del mal gobierno”: “ahora es puro escrito, no nos fiamos en un papelito”, afirman.
