EJ\u00c9RCITO ZAPATISTA DE LIBERACI\u00d3N NACIONAL. 8 de mayo del 2014.<\/em><\/p>\n A las compa\u00f1eras y compa\u00f1eros de la Sexta:<\/em><\/p>\n Compas:<\/em><\/p>\n De hecho ya estaba listo el comunicado.\u00a0 Sucinto, preciso, claro, como deben ser los comunicados.\u00a0 Pero\u2026 mmh\u2026 tal vez despu\u00e9s.<\/em><\/p>\n Porque ahora empieza la reuni\u00f3n con las compa\u00f1eras y compa\u00f1eros bases de apoyo de La Realidad.<\/em><\/p>\n Los escuchamos.<\/em><\/p>\n El tono y sentimiento de su voz nos es conocido desde hace tiempo: el dolor y la rabia.<\/em><\/p>\n Entonces se me ocurre que un comunicado no va a reflejar eso.<\/em><\/p>\n O no en toda su extensi\u00f3n.<\/em><\/p>\n Cierto, tal vez una carta tampoco, pero al menos en estas letras puedo intentar aunque sea un p\u00e1lido reflejo.<\/em><\/p>\n Porque\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n Fueron el dolor y la rabia los que nos hicieron desafiarlo todo y a todos hace 20 a\u00f1os<\/em><\/p>\n Y son el dolor y la rabia los que ahora nos hacen calzarnos de nuevo las botas, ponernos el uniforme, fajarnos la pistola y cubrirnos el rostro.<\/em><\/p>\n Y ahora colocarme la vieja y ajada gorra con las 3 estrellas rojas de cinco puntas.<\/em><\/p>\n Son el dolor y la rabia quienes han tra\u00eddo nuestros pasos hasta La Realidad.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n May 8, 2014<\/p>\n To the Compa\u00f1eras and Compa\u00f1eros of the Sixth:<\/p>\n Compas:<\/p>\n To tell you the truth, the communiqu\u00e9 was all ready. It was succinct, clear, precise, how communiqu\u00e9s should be. But\u2026well\u2026maybe later.<\/p>\n For now the meeting with the compa\u00f1eros and compa\u00f1eras bases of support of the community of La Realidad is about to begin.<\/p>\n We listen.<\/p>\n We have known the tone and the emotion with which they speak for a long time: pain and rage.<\/p>\n So it occurs to me that a communiqu\u00e9 will not adequately reflect this.<\/p>\n Or at least not fully.<\/p>\n True, maybe a letter won\u2019t do so either, but at least the words that follow are an attempt, even if they are only a pale reflection.<\/p>\n Because\u2026<\/p>\n It was pain and rage that made us challenge everything and everyone 20 years ago.<\/p>\n And it is pain and rage that now again makes us lace up our boots, put on our uniforms, strap on our guns, and cover our faces.<\/p>\n And that leads me to don the old and tattered hat, the one with three red five-pointed stars.<\/p>\n It is pain and rage that has brought us to Reality (La Realidad).<\/p>\n Hace unos momentos, despu\u00e9s de que explicamos que hab\u00edamos llegado para responder a la petici\u00f3n de apoyo de la Junta de Buen Gobierno, un compa\u00f1ero base de apoyo, maestro del curso \u201cLa Libertad seg\u00fan l@s Zapatistas\u201d nos ha dicho, palabras m\u00e1s, palabras menos:<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cClaro te decimos compa\u00f1ero subcomandante, que viera que no somos zapatistas hace rato que hubi\u00e9ramos tomado venganza y se hubiera hecho una mataz\u00f3n, Porque tenemos mucho coraje con lo que le hicieron al compa\u00f1ero Galeano.\u00a0 Pero pues somos zapatistas y no se trata de venganza sino de que haya la justicia.\u00a0 As\u00ed que esperamos lo que nos van a decir y as\u00ed vamos a hacer\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Al escucharlo sent\u00ed envidia y pena.<\/em><\/p>\n Envidia por quienes tuvieron el privilegio de tener a mujeres y hombres, como Galeano y como \u00e9ste que ahora habla, de maestras y maestros.\u00a0 Miles de hombres y mujeres de todo el mundo tuvieron esa fortuna.<\/em><\/p>\n Y pena por quienes ya no tendr\u00e1n a Galeano como maestro.<\/em><\/p>\n El compa\u00f1ero Subcomandante Insurgente Mois\u00e9s ha tenido que tomar una decisi\u00f3n dif\u00edcil.\u00a0 Su decisi\u00f3n es inapelable y, si me preguntan mi opini\u00f3n (que nadie lo ha hecho), inobjetable.\u00a0 Ha decidido suspender por tiempo indefinido la reuni\u00f3n y compartici\u00f3n con los pueblos originarios y sus organizaciones en el Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena.\u00a0\u00a0 Y ha decidido suspender tambi\u00e9n el homenaje que preparamos para nuestro compa\u00f1ero ausente Don Luis Villoro Toranzo, as\u00ed como suspender nuestra participaci\u00f3n en el Seminario \u201c\u00c9tica frente al Despojo\u201d que organizan compas artistas e intelectuales de M\u00e9xico y el Mundo.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00bfQu\u00e9 lo llev\u00f3 a esa decisi\u00f3n?\u00a0 Bueno, los primeros resultados de la investigaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como las informaciones que nos llegan, no dejan lugar a dudas:<\/em><\/p>\n 1.- Se trat\u00f3 de una agresi\u00f3n planeada con anticipaci\u00f3n, organizada militarmente y llevada a cabo con alevos\u00eda, premeditaci\u00f3n y ventaja.\u00a0 Y es una agresi\u00f3n inscrita en un clima creado y alentado desde arriba.<\/em><\/p>\n 2.- Est\u00e1n implicadas las direcciones de la llamada CIOAC-Hist\u00f3rica, el Partido Verde Ecologista (nombre con el que el PRI gobierna en Chiapas), el Partido Acci\u00f3n Nacional y el Partido Revolucionario Institucional.<\/em><\/p>\n 3.- Est\u00e1 implicado al menos el gobierno del Estado de Chiapas.\u00a0 Falta determinar el grado de involucramiento del gobierno federal.<\/em><\/p>\n Una mujer de los contras ha llegado a contar que de por s\u00ed fue planeado y que de por s\u00ed era el plan \u201cchingar\u201d al Galeano.<\/em><\/p>\n En suma: no se trat\u00f3 de un problema de comunidad, donde los bandos se enfrentan enardecidos por el momento.\u00a0 Fue algo planificado: primero la provocaci\u00f3n con la destrucci\u00f3n de la escuela y la cl\u00ednica, sabiendo que nuestros compa\u00f1eros no ten\u00edan armas de fuego y que ir\u00edan a defender lo que humildemente han levantado con su esfuerzo; despu\u00e9s las posiciones que tomaron los agresores, previendo el camino que seguir\u00edan desde el caracol hasta la escuela; y al final el fuego cruzado sobre nuestros compa\u00f1eros.<\/em><\/p>\n En esa emboscada fueron heridos nuestros compa\u00f1eros por armas de fuego.<\/em><\/p>\n Lo que sucedi\u00f3 con el compa\u00f1ero Galeano es estremecedor: \u00e9l no cay\u00f3 en la emboscada, lo rodearon 15 o 20 paramilitares (s\u00ed, lo son, sus t\u00e1cticas son de paramilitares); el compa Galeano los ret\u00f3 a luchar mano a mano, sin armas de fuego; lo garrotearon y \u00e9l brincaba de un lado a otro esquivando los golpes y desarmando a sus oponentes.<\/em><\/p>\n Al ver que no pod\u00edan con \u00e9l, le dispararon y una bala en la pierna lo derrib\u00f3.\u00a0 Despu\u00e9s de eso fue la barbarie: se fueron sobre de \u00e9l, lo golpearon y lo machetearon.\u00a0 Otra bala en el pecho lo puso moribundo.\u00a0 Siguieron golpe\u00e1ndolo.\u00a0 Y al ver que a\u00fan respiraba, un cobarde le dio un tiro en la cabeza.<\/em><\/p>\n Tres tiros a mansalva recibi\u00f3.\u00a0 Y los 3 cuando estaba rodeado, desarmado y sin rendirse.\u00a0 Su cuerpo fue arrastrado por sus asesinos como unos 80 metros y lo dejaron botado.<\/em><\/p>\n Qued\u00f3 solo el compa\u00f1ero Galeano.\u00a0 Su cuerpo tirado en mitad de lo que antes fue territorio de los campamentistas, hombres y mujeres de todo el mundo que llegaban al llamado \u201ccampamento de paz\u201d en La Realidad.\u00a0 Y fueron las compa\u00f1eras, las mujeres zapatistas de La Realidad quienes desafiaron el miedo y fueron a levantar el cuerpo.<\/em><\/p>\n S\u00ed, hay una foto del compa Galeano.\u00a0 La imagen muestra todas las heridas y alimenta el dolor y la rabia, aunque escuchar los relatos no necesita ning\u00fan refuerzo.\u00a0 Claro que entiendo que esa foto pod\u00eda herir la susceptibilidad de la realeza espa\u00f1olista, y por eso mejor poner una foto de una escena montada con descaro, con unos cuantos descalabrados, y que los reporteros, movilizados por el gobierno chiapaneco, empezaran a vender la mentira de una confrontaci\u00f3n.\u00a0 \u201cEl que paga, manda\u201d.\u00a0 Porque hay clases, mi buen.\u00a0 Una cosa es la monarqu\u00eda espa\u00f1ola, y otra los \u201cpinches\u201d indios alzados que te mandan al rancho de amlo s\u00f3lo porque ah\u00ed, a unos pasos, est\u00e1n velando el cuerpo todav\u00eda ensangrentado del compa Galeano.<\/em><\/p>\n La CIOAC-Hist\u00f3rica, su rival la CIOAC-Independiente y otras organizaciones \u201ccampesinas\u201d como la ORCAO, ORUGA, URPA y dem\u00e1s, viven de provocar confrontaciones. \u00a0Saben que el provocar problemas en las comunidades donde tenemos presencia agrada a los gobiernos.\u00a0 Y que suelen premiar con proyectos, y gruesos fajos de billetes para los dirigentes, los agravios que nos hacen.<\/em><\/p>\n En palabras de un funcionario del gobierno de Manuel Velasco: \u201cnos conviene m\u00e1s que los zapatistas est\u00e9n ocupados en problemas creados artificialmente, en lugar de que hacen actividades a las que llegan \u201cg\u00fceros\u201d de todas partes\u201d.\u00a0 As\u00ed dijo: \u201cg\u00fceros\u201d.\u00a0 S\u00ed, es c\u00f3mico que as\u00ed se exprese el sirviente de un \u201cg\u00fcero\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n Cada que los l\u00edderes de esas organizaciones \u201ccampesinas\u201d ven menguar su presupuesto para las francachelas que se otorgan, organizan un problema y van con el gobierno de Chiapas para que les pague por \u201ccalmarse\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n Este \u201cmodus vivendi\u201d de dirigentes que ni siquiera saben distinguir entre \u201carena \u201c y \u201cgrava\u201d, se inici\u00f3 con el pri\u00edsta y mal recordado \u201ccroquetas\u201d Albores, se retom\u00f3 con el lopezobradorista Juan Sabines, y se mantiene con el autodenominado verde ecologista Manuel \u201cel g\u00fcero\u201d Velasco.<\/em><\/p>\n Esperen un momento\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n Ahora est\u00e1 hablando un compa.\u00a0 Llora, s\u00ed.\u00a0 Pero todos sabemos que esas l\u00e1grimas son de rabia.\u00a0 Con palabras entrecortadas dice lo que todos sienten, sentimos: no queremos venganza, queremos justicia.<\/em><\/p>\n Otro m\u00e1s interrumpe: \u201ccompa\u00f1ero subcomandante insurgente, no lo entiendas mal nuestras l\u00e1grimas, no son de tristeza, son de rebeld\u00eda\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n Ahora llega un informe de una reuni\u00f3n de los dirigentes de la CIOAC-Hist\u00f3rica.\u00a0 Los dirigentes dicen, textualmente: \u201ccon el EZLN no se puede negociar con dinero.\u00a0 Pero ya una vez detenidos todos los que aparecen en el peri\u00f3dico, que los encierren unos sus 4 \u00f3 5 a\u00f1os, y ya despu\u00e9s que se calme el problema se puede negociar con el gobierno para su liberaci\u00f3n\u201d.\u00a0 Uno m\u00e1s agrega: \u201co podemos decir que hubo un muerto entre los nuestros y ya queda empatado un muerto de cada lado y que se calmen los zapatistas.\u00a0 Lo inventamos que muri\u00f3 o lo matamos nosotros mismos y ah\u00ed queda solucionado el problema\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n En fin, la carta se alarga y no s\u00e9 si alcanzan a sentir lo que sentimos.\u00a0 De todas formas el Subcomandante Insurgente Mois\u00e9s me ha encargado que les avise que\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n Esperen\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n Ahora est\u00e1n hablando en la asamblea zapatista de La Realidad.<\/em><\/p>\n Nos hemos salido para que acuerden entre ellos la respuesta a una pregunta que se les hizo: \u201cA la comandancia del EZLN la persiguen los gobiernos, ustedes lo saben bien porque ya estuvieron cuando la traici\u00f3n de 1995.\u00a0 Entonces \u00bfquieren que estemos por aqu\u00ed para ver de este problema y que haya justicia o quieren que mejor nos vamos a otro lado?\u00a0 Porque todos ustedes pueden sufrir ahora la persecuci\u00f3n directa de los gobiernos y sus polic\u00edas y militares\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Ahora escucho a un joven.\u00a0 Unos 15 a\u00f1os.\u00a0 Me dicen que es el hijo de Galeano.\u00a0 Me asomo y s\u00ed, aunque es un jovencito, es un Galeano en formaci\u00f3n.\u00a0 Dice que quedemos, que conf\u00edan en nosotros para la justicia y que se encuentre a quienes asesinaron a su pap\u00e1.\u00a0 Y que est\u00e1n dispuestos a lo que sea. Las voces en ese sentido se multiplican,\u00a0 Hablan los compa\u00f1eros.\u00a0 Hablan las compa\u00f1eras y hasta los ni\u00f1os dejan los llantos: ellas fueron las que reconectaron el agua, a pesar de que las amenazaron los paramilitares.\u00a0 \u201cSon valientes\u201d, dice un hombre, veterano de la guerra.<\/em><\/p>\n Que quedemos, \u00e9se es el acuerdo.<\/em><\/p>\n El Subcomandante Insurgente Mois\u00e9s le entrega un apoyo econ\u00f3mico a la viuda.<\/em><\/p>\n Se dispersa la asamblea.\u00a0 Aunque se alcanza a ver que el paso de todos es firme otra vez, y que hay otra luz en su mirada.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00bfEn qu\u00e9 me qued\u00e9?\u00a0 Ah, s\u00ed.\u00a0 El Subcomandante Insurgente Mois\u00e9s me ha encargado que les avise que las actividades p\u00fablicas de mayo y junio se han suspendido por tiempo indefinido, as\u00ed como los cursos de \u201cla libertad seg\u00fan l@s zapatistas\u201d.\u00a0 As\u00ed que ah\u00ed lo vean eso de las cancelaciones y dem\u00e1s.<\/em><\/p>\n Esperen\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n Ahora nos dicen que empieza arriba a alentarse el llamado \u201cmodelo Acteal\u201d: \u201cfue un conflicto intracomunitario por un banco de arena\u201d.\u00a0 Mmh\u2026 as\u00ed que sigue la militarizaci\u00f3n, el vocer\u00edo hist\u00e9rico de la prensa domesticada, las simulaciones, las mentiras, la persecuci\u00f3n.\u00a0 No es gratuito que est\u00e9 ah\u00ed el viejo Chuayffet, ahora con aplicados alumnos en el gobierno de Chiapas y en organizaciones \u201ccampesinas\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n Lo que sigue ya lo conocemos.<\/em><\/p>\n Pero yo lo que quiero es aprovechar estas l\u00edneas para preguntarles:<\/em><\/p>\n A nosotros han sido el dolor y la rabia quienes nos han tra\u00eddo hasta ac\u00e1.\u00a0 Si los alcanzan a sentir tambi\u00e9n, \u00bfa ustedes a d\u00f3nde los llevan?<\/em><\/p>\n Porque nosotros aqu\u00ed estamos, en la realidad.\u00a0 Donde siempre hemos estado.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00bfY ustedes?<\/em><\/p>\n Vale.\u00a0 Salud e indignaci\u00f3n.<\/em><\/p>\n Desde las monta\u00f1as del Sureste Mexicano.<\/em><\/p>\n Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos.<\/em> P.D.- Las investigaciones las est\u00e1 conduciendo el Subcomandante Insurgente Mois\u00e9s.\u00a0 \u00c9l estar\u00e1 informando de los resultados, o \u00e9l a trav\u00e9s m\u00edo.<\/em><\/p>\n Otra P.D.- Si me piden que resuma nuestro trabajoso andar en pocas palabras ser\u00edan: nuestros esfuerzos son por la paz, los esfuerzos de ellos son por la guerra.<\/em><\/p>\n A few moments ago, after we explained that we had arrived here in response to the petition of support made by the Good Government Council, a base of support and a teacher in the course \u201cFreedom According to the Zapatista,\u201d told us more or less the following:<\/p>\n \u201cCompa\u00f1ero Subcomandante, we want to be clear, if we were not Zapatistas we would already have taken revenge and it would have led to a massacre, because we are filled with rage about what they did to our compa\u00f1ero Galeano. But we are Zapatistas and we don\u2019t seek revenge, but rather justice. So we have waited to see what you all will say and that is what we will do.\u201d<\/p>\n As I listened to him, I felt both envy and sorrow.<\/p>\n I felt envy toward those who have had the privilege of having women and men like Galeano and like this compa who was speaking as teachers. Thousands of men and women from across the world have had this good fortune.<\/p>\n And I felt sorry for those who no longer have the possibility of having Galeano as their teacher.<\/p>\n The compa\u00f1ero Subcomandante Mois\u00e9s has had to make a very difficult decision. His decision cannot be appealed, and if someone were to ask my opinion (which no one has done), his decision is unobjectionable. He has decided to indefinitely suspend the meeting and exchange with the indigenous peoples and organizations of the National Indigenous Congress. And he has also decided to suspend the homage that we had prepared for our absent compa\u00f1ero Don Luis Villoro Toranzo, as well as to suspend our participation in the Seminar \u201cEthics in the face of Dispossession,\u201d that was being organized by artists and intellectuals in Mexico and the world.<\/p>\n What led him to this decision? Well, the preliminary results of our investigation, as well as information that we have received, leave no doubts regarding the following:<\/p>\n 1. This was a planned, premeditated attack, militarily organized, and put into action with premeditated malice and advantage. And it is an act of aggression inscribed in a climate created and cultivated from above.<\/p>\n 2. The leaderships of the paramilitary group called CIOAC-Hist\u00f3rica, the Green Ecological Party (the name under which the PRI governs in Chiapas), the National Action Party [PAN] and the Revolutionary Institutional Party [PRI], are all implicated in directing this attack.<\/p>\n 3. We know that at least the government of the State of Chiapas is implicated. We have not yet determined to what extent the federal government was also involved.<\/p>\n One woman from these anti-Zapatista organizations has come to tell us that this attack was planned and that in fact the goal was specifically to \u201cfuck over\u201d Galeano.<\/p>\n In sum: this was not some intra-community problem, where two groups confront each other in the heated emotions of the moment. This attack was planned: first they tried to provoke us by destroying our school and health clinic, knowing that our compa\u00f1eros were not armed and that they would humbly defend what they had created through their own efforts; next the attackers took up positions on the path that they knew our compa\u00f1eros would take from the Caracol to the school; and finally they fired on our compa\u00f1eros.<\/p>\n Our compa\u00f1eros were injured by gunfire in this ambush, but what happened to our compa\u00f1ero Galeano is even more extreme. He did not fall in the ambush. He was surrounded by 15 or 20 paramilitaries (yes, they are paramilitaries; their tactics are those of paramilitaries); our compa Galeano challenged the aggressors to hand-to-hand combat, without guns; they would swing at him and he would jump from one place to another avoiding their blows and disarming his opponents.<\/p>\n When these aggressors saw that they could not beat him like that, they shot him in the leg and he fell. Then came the barbarism: they descended upon him, beat him and cut him with a machete. Another shot to the chest brought him to the edge of death, and they kept beating him. When they saw that he was still breathing, one of those cowards shot him in the head.<\/p>\n They shot him three times at point blank range. And all three shots came while he was surrounded and unarmed, but had not given up. His body was then dragged by his assassins for some 80 meters and then tossed aside.<\/p>\n Our compa\u00f1ero Galeano was left there alone, his body thrown in the middle of what had been the territory of the campamentistas, men and women from all over the world who had answered the call to build a \u201cpeace camp\u201d in La Realidad. And it was our compa\u00f1eras, the Zapatista women of La Realidad who defied fear and went to pick up Galeano\u2019s body.<\/p>\n Yes, there is a photo of our compa Galeano in this state. The image shows all of his wounds and it feeds our pain and rage, despite these needing no reinforcement after listening to the stories of what happened. Of course I understand that this photo could offend the sensibilities of the Spanish royalists; reason enough to publish a photo of a scene unashamedly manufactured, with a few injured people, and with reporters, mobilized by the government, of Chiapas, selling the lie that there had been a confrontation. Well, \u201che who pays, rules.\u201d Because classes do exist my friend. The Spanish monarchy is one thing, and these \u201cfucking\u201d rebellious Indians who tell you off\u2014telling you to beat it to Lopez Obrador\u2019s ranch because a few feet away, they are mourning the body of the still bloody compa Galeano\u2014are quite another.<\/p>\n The CIOAC-Hist\u00f3rica, and their rival CIOAC-Independiente, and other \u201cpeasant\u201d organizations such as ORCAO, ORUGA, URPA, and the rest, make their living from provoking confrontations. They know that creating problems in the communities where we have a presence pleases the various levels of government and that they will be rewarded with social programs and thick wads of cash for their leaders for the problems that they cause us.<\/p>\n In the words of a government official in the administration of Manuel Velasco: \u201cit is more convenient for us that the Zapatistas be kept busy with artificially created problems than for them to be holding activities that \u201cg\u00fceros\u201d from all over the world come take part in. That\u2019s what he said,\u201d g\u00fceros.\u201d Yes, it is comical that he should say that, given that he is the servant of a certain \u201cg\u00fcero.\u201d[1]<\/p>\n Each time the leaders of these \u201cpeasant\u201d organizations see their budgets thinning due to their binging, they create a problem and then run to the government of Chiapas who pays them in order to \u201ccalm down.\u201d<\/p>\n This \u201cmodus vivendi\u201d of these leaders who can\u2019t even tell the difference between \u201csand\u201d and \u201cgravel\u201d, began with the Priista and nearly forgotten \u201ccroquetas,\u201d[2] Albores, and was taken up once again with Juan Sabines, follower of Lopez Obrador, and continues today with self-proclaimed Green Ecologist Manual \u201cel g\u00fcero\u201d Velasco.<\/p>\n Wait just a minute\u2026<\/p>\n Now a compa is speaking. Crying. But we all know that these are tears of rage. With a faltering voice he says what we all feel: we don\u2019t want revenge, we want justice.<\/p>\n Another compa interrupts: \u201cCompa\u00f1ero Subcomandante Insurgente, don\u2019t misunderstand our tears, they are not tears of sadness, they are tears of rebellion.\u201d<\/p>\n And now there is a report about a meeting of the leaders of CIOAC-Hist\u00f3rica. The leaders say, word for word: \u201cwith the EZLN we cannot negotiate with money. But once all of those who appear in the newspaper are detained, locked up for 4 or 5 years, and the problem has abated, then their release can be negotiated with the government.\u201d And another one adds, \u201cor, we can say that we had a death on our side and that now things are even because there was a death on both sides, and the Zapatistas should settle down. We will stage a death or we\u2019ll kill one of our own and then the problem will be solved.\u201d<\/p>\n In the end, this letter has gotten long and I don\u2019t know if you have managed to feel what we feel.
