Intelectual-activista, afrodescendiente de origen puertorrique\u00f1o. Profesor de sociolog\u00eda en la Universidad de Massachusetts donde tambi\u00e9n es investigador en el Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe y profesor en el Doctorado en Estudios Afroamericanos. Ha publicado varios libros (tal como: Contrapunteos Diasp\u00f3ricos. Cartograf\u00edas Pol\u00edticas de Nuestra Afroam\u00e9rica) y gran cantidad de art\u00edculos en temas tales como: globalizaci\u00f3n, movimientos sociales, cuesti\u00f3n urbana, identidades \u00e9tnico-raciales, racismo, pensamiento cr\u00edtico caribeno y afrodiasp\u00f3rico y teor\u00eda descolonial. Ha sido y es activista en una multiplicidad de frentes, incluyendo los procesos de Foro Social y las redes afrodescendientes en las Am\u00e9ricas.
