The week of actions was initiated by the New York-based <a href=\"http:\/\/ww4report.com\/node\/5036\" target=\"_blank\">Movement for Justice in El Barrio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Patisht\u00e1n G\u00f3mez, in prison since 2000, is serving a 60-year sentence for his alleged involvement in the June 2000 killing of seven police agents in El Bosque municipality. Local authorities initially suspected drug traffickers, but prosecutors later shifted their attention to supporters of the rebel Zapatista National Liberation Army (<a href=\"http:\/\/ww4report.com\/node\/10713\" target=\"_blank\">EZLN<\/a>). Most of El Bosque had been part of a pro-EZLN autonomous municipality, San Juan de la Libertad, from 1995 until 1998, when it was <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/misc.activism.progressive\/browse_thread\/thread\/cb33186ea6c03d48\/9118b18db3113693%3Fq%3D%2522Rolando%2BVargas%2522%239118b18db3113693&amp;ei=iGwTS6eaOpW8Qpmqic0O&amp;sa=t&amp;ct=res&amp;cd=6&amp;source=groups&amp;usg=AFQjCNHGiPAEnvTl6VH5EQhqmUF869IAjw?pli=1\" target=\"_blank\">dismantled in a violent military operation<\/a>. Patisht\u00e1n G\u00f3mez, a local schoolteacher, was the only suspect convicted in the case, and the only witness against him was Rosemberg G\u00f3mez, the son of Manuel G\u00f3mez Ruiz, then El Bosque&#8217;s mayor. Years later Rosemberg G\u00f3mez reportedly would tell people when he was drunk that he&#8217;d lied on instructions from his father, and that he got a new van as a reward.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00e1ntiz L\u00f3pez, an EZLN supporter, was arrested in December 2011 on charges of leading a confrontation in Tenejapa municipality on Dec. 4 in which one person was killed. Twelve witnesses testify that he wasn&#8217;t present during the fight.
