Los duros colmillos<br \/>\ndieron cuenta de los m\u00e1s bravos perros,<br \/>\ncomo de cabritos y de corderillos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Francisco sali\u00f3:<br \/>\nal lobo busc\u00f3<br \/>\nen su madriguera.<br \/>\nCerca de la cueva encontr\u00f3 a la fiera<br \/>\nenorme, que al verle se lanz\u00f3 feroz<br \/>\ncontra \u00e9l. Francisco, con su dulce voz,<br \/>\nalzando la mano,<br \/>\nal lobo furioso dijo<i>: \u2013 \u00a1Paz, hermano<br \/>\n<\/i><i>lobo! \u2013 <\/i>El animal<br \/>\ncontempl\u00f3 al var\u00f3n de tosco sayal;<br \/>\ndej\u00f3 su aire arisco,<br \/>\ncerr\u00f3 las abiertas fauces agresivas,<br \/>\ny dijo:<i> \u2013 \u00a1Est\u00e1 bien, hermano Francisco! \u2013<br \/>\n<\/i><i>\u00a1C\u00f3mo! \u2013<\/i>exclam\u00f3 el santo<i>-. \u00bfEs ley que t\u00fa vivas<br \/>\n<\/i><i>de horror y de muerte?<br \/>\n<\/i><i>\u00bfLa sangre que vierte<br \/>\n<\/i><i>tu hocico diab\u00f3lico, el duelo y espanto<br \/>\n<\/i><i>que esparces, el llanto<br \/>\n<\/i><i>de los campesinos, el grito, el dolor<br \/>\n<\/i><i>de tanta criatura de Nuestro Se\u00f1or,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>no han de contener tu encono infernal?<br \/>\n<\/i><i>\u00bfVienes del infierno?<br \/>\n<\/i><i>\u00bfTe ha infundido acaso su rencor eterno<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Luzbel o Belial?<br \/>\n<\/i>Y el gran lobo, humilde:<i> \u00a1Es duro el invierno,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y es horrible el hambre! En el bosque helado<br \/>\n<\/i><i>no hall\u00e9 qu\u00e9 comer; y busqu\u00e9 el ganado,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y en veces com\u00ed ganado y pastor.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>\u00bfLa sangre? Yo vi m\u00e1s de un cazador<br \/>\n<\/i><i>sobre su caballo, llevando el azor<br \/>\n<\/i><i>al pu\u00f1o; o correr tras el jabal\u00ed,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>el oso o el ciervo; y a m\u00e1s de uno vi<br \/>\n<\/i><i>mancharse de sangre, herir, torturar,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>de las roncas trompas al sordo clamor,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>a los animales de Nuestro Se\u00f1or.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Y no era por hambre, que iban a cazar.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Francisco responde:<i> En el hombre existe mala levadura.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Cuando nace viene con pecado. Es triste.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Mas el alma simple de la bestia es pura.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>T\u00fa vas a tener<br \/>\n<\/i><i>desde hoy qu\u00e9 comer.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Dejar\u00e1s en paz<br \/>\n<\/i><i>reba\u00f1os y gente en este pa\u00eds.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>\u00a1Que Dios melifique tu ser montaraz!<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Est\u00e1 bien, hermano Francisco de As\u00eds.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>Ante el Se\u00f1or, que todo ata y desata,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>en fe de promesa ti\u00e9ndeme la pata.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">El lobo tendi\u00f3 la pata al hermano<br \/>\nde As\u00eds, que a su vez le alarg\u00f3 la mano.<br \/>\nFueron a la aldea. La gente ve\u00eda<br \/>\ny lo que miraba casi no cre\u00eda.<br \/>\nTras el religioso iba el lobo fiero,<br \/>\ny, baja la testa, quieto le segu\u00eda<br \/>\ncomo un can de casa, o como un cordero.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Francisco llam\u00f3 la gente a la plaza<br \/>\ny all\u00ed predic\u00f3.<br \/>\nY dijo:<i> He aqu\u00ed una amable caza.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>El hermano lobo se viene conmigo;<br \/>\n<\/i><i>me jur\u00f3 no ser ya vuestro enemigo,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y no repetir su ataque sangriento.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Vosotros, en cambio, dar\u00e9is su alimento<br \/>\n<\/i><i>a la pobre bestia de Dios. \u00a1As\u00ed sea!,<br \/>\n<\/i>contest\u00f3 la gente toda de la aldea.<br \/>\nY luego, en se\u00f1al<br \/>\nde contentamiento,<br \/>\nmovi\u00f3 testa y cola el buen animal,<br \/>\ny entr\u00f3 con Francisco de As\u00eds al convento.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Alg\u00fan tiempo estuvo el lobo tranquilo<br \/>\nen el santo asilo.<br \/>\nSus bastas orejas los salmos o\u00edan<br \/>\ny los claros ojos se le humedec\u00edan.<br \/>\nAprendi\u00f3 mil gracias y hac\u00eda mil juegos<br \/>\ncuando a la cocina iba con los legos.<br \/>\nY cuando Francisco su oraci\u00f3n hac\u00eda,<br \/>\nel lobo las pobres sandalias lam\u00eda.<br \/>\nSal\u00eda a la calle,<br \/>\niba por el monte, descend\u00eda al valle,<br \/>\nentraba en las casas y le daban algo<br \/>\nde comer.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Mir\u00e1banle como a un manso galgo.<br \/>\nUn d\u00eda, Francisco se ausent\u00f3. Y el lobo<br \/>\ndulce, el lobo manso y bueno, el lobo probo,<br \/>\ndesapareci\u00f3, torn\u00f3 a la monta\u00f1a,<br \/>\ny recomenzaron su aullido y su sa\u00f1a.<br \/>\nOtra vez sinti\u00f3se el temor, la alarma,<br \/>\nentre los vecinos y entre los pastores;<br \/>\ncolmaba el espanto los alrededores,<br \/>\nde nada serv\u00edan el valor y el arma,<br \/>\npues la bestia fiera<br \/>\nno dio treguas a su furor jam\u00e1s,<br \/>\ncomo si tuviera<br \/>\nfuegos de Moloch y de Satan\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Cuando volvi\u00f3 al pueblo el divino santo,<br \/>\ntodos lo buscaron con quejas y llanto,<br \/>\ny con mil querellas dieron testimonio<br \/>\nde lo que sufr\u00edan y perd\u00edan tanto<br \/>\npor aquel infame lobo del demonio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Francisco de As\u00eds se puso severo.<br \/>\nSe fue a la monta\u00f1a<br \/>\na buscar al falso lobo carnicero.<br \/>\nY junto a su cueva hall\u00f3 a la alima\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>En nombre del Padre del sacro universo,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>conj\u00farote <\/i>-dijo<i>-, \u00a1oh lobo perverso!,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>a que me respondas: \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 has vuelto al mal?<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Contesta. Te escucho.<br \/>\n<\/i>Como en sorda lucha, habl\u00f3 el animal,<br \/>\nla boca espumosa y el ojo fatal:<br \/>\n<i>-Hermano Francisco, no te acerques mucho\u2026<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Yo estaba tranquilo all\u00e1 en el convento;<br \/>\n<\/i><i>al pueblo sal\u00eda,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y si algo me daban estaba contento<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y manso com\u00eda.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Mas empec\u00e9 a ver que en todas las casas<br \/>\n<\/i><i>estaban la Envidia, la Sa\u00f1a, la Ira,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y en todos los rostros ard\u00edan las brasas<br \/>\n<\/i><i>de odio, de lujuria, de infamia y mentira.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Hermanos a hermanos hac\u00edan la guerra,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>perd\u00edan los d\u00e9biles, ganaban los malos,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>hembra y macho eran como perro y perra,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y un buen d\u00eda todos me dieron de palos.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Me vieron humilde, lam\u00eda las manos<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y los pies. Segu\u00eda tus sagradas leyes,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>todas las criaturas eran mis hermanos:<br \/>\n<\/i><i>los hermanos hombres, los hermanos bueyes,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>hermanas estrellas y hermanos gusanos.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Y as\u00ed, me apalearon y me echaron fuera.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Y su risa fue como un agua hirviente,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y entre mis entra\u00f1as revivi\u00f3 la fiera,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>y me sent\u00ed lobo malo de repente;<br \/>\n<\/i><i>mas siempre mejor que esa mala gente.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Y recomenc\u00e9 a luchar aqu\u00ed,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>a me defender y a me alimentar.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>Como el oso hace, como el jabal\u00ed,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>que para vivir tienen que matar.<br \/>\n<\/i><i>D\u00e9jame en el monte, d\u00e9jame en el risco,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>d\u00e9jame existir en mi libertad,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>vete a tu convento, hermano Francisco,<br \/>\n<\/i><i>sigue tu camino y tu santidad.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">El santo de As\u00eds no le dijo nada.<br \/>\nLe mir\u00f3 con una profunda mirada,<br \/>\ny parti\u00f3 con l\u00e1grimas y con desconsuelos,<br \/>\ny habl\u00f3 al Dios eterno con su coraz\u00f3n.<br \/>\nEl viento del bosque llev\u00f3 su oraci\u00f3n,<br \/>\nque era:<i> Padre nuestro, que est\u00e1s en los cielos\u2026<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Diciembre de 1913.<\/p>\n<p>[:en]First part:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Motives of the Wolf<\/strong><br \/>\nRub\u00e9n Dar\u00edo<br \/>\nNicaragua<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The man with heart of lis,<br \/>\ncherub\u2019s, celestial tongue,<br \/>\nthe minimal and sweet Francis of Assisi,<br \/>\nfinds himself with a rude and grim animal,<br \/>\nfearful beast, of blood and theft,<br \/>\nfurious jaws, evil eyes:<br \/>\nthe wolf of Gubbio, the terrible wolf,<br \/>\nrabid, has devastated the land;<br \/>\nhas cruelly destroyed all the flocks;<br \/>\nhas devoured the lamb, has devoured the shepherds,<br \/>\ndeaths and damages he has caused are countless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Strong hunters armed with irons,<br \/>\nwere destroyed. The hard fangs<br \/>\naccounted for the toughest dogs<br \/>\nas if they were goatlings and baa-lambs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Francis went out:<br \/>\nand searched for the wolf<br \/>\nat his burrow.<br \/>\nNear the cave, he found the enormous beast,<br \/>\nwho, upon seeing him, ferociously jumped<br \/>\nat him. Francis, with his sweet voice,<br \/>\nand raising his hand,<br \/>\ntold the furious wolf: \u2013 Peace, brother<br \/>\nwolf! \u2013 The animal<br \/>\ngazed at the man with the rough sackcloth;<br \/>\nlet down his surly air,<br \/>\nclosed the aggressive open jaws,<br \/>\nand said: \u2013Alright, brother Francis! \u2013<br \/>\nWhat is this! \u2013exclaimed the saint\u2014. Is it the law that you live<br \/>\nby horror and death?<br \/>\nThe blood spilt<br \/>\nby your diabolical snout, the grief and terror<br \/>\nthat you spread, the crying<br \/>\nof peasants, the screams, the pain<br \/>\nof so many creatures of Our Lord,<br \/>\nshould they not contain your diabolical bitterness?<br \/>\nDo you come from hell?<br \/>\nHave, perhaps, Luzbel or Belial,<br \/>\ninstilled you with their eternal resentment?<br \/>\nAnd the great wolf, humbly: Winter is hard,<br \/>\nand hunger is horrible! In the frozen forest<br \/>\nI found nothing to eat; so, I searched for cattle,<br \/>\nand sometimes ate cattle and shepherd.<br \/>\nThe blood? I saw more than one hunter<br \/>\non his horse, carrying a goshawk<br \/>\non his fist; or running behind the wild boar,<br \/>\nthe bear or the deer; and I saw more than one<br \/>\nget stained in blood, hurt, torture,<br \/>\nfrom the hoarse trunks to the deaf clamor,<br \/>\nthe animals of Our Lord.<br \/>\nAnd it was not due to hunger that they were hunting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Francis answers: There is bad yeast in man.<br \/>\nWhen he is born, he comes with sin. It is sad.<br \/>\nBut the simple soul of the beast is pure.<br \/>\nYou will have,<br \/>\nfrom this day onward, something to eat.<br \/>\nYou will leave in peace<br \/>\nherds and people in this country.<br \/>\nMay God mellow your wild being!<br \/>\nAlright, brother Francis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Before the Lord, who binds all and unties all,<br \/>\nin faith of promise, give me your paw.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The wolf gave his paw to the brother<br \/>\nof Assisi, who in return gave his hand.<br \/>\nThey walked to the village. People saw,<br \/>\nand what they saw, they almost could not believe.<br \/>\nBehind the religious man went the fierce wolf,<br \/>\nand, with a low head and still, it followed him,<br \/>\nas a house dog, or a lamb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Francis called the people to the square,<br \/>\nand there he preached.<br \/>\nAnd said: Here is an amiable hunt.<br \/>\nBrother wolf comes with me;<br \/>\nhe swore to me not to be your foe,<br \/>\nand not to repeat its bloody attack.<br \/>\nYou, in exchange, will feed<br \/>\nthis poor creature of God. Amen!<br \/>\nAnswered the people form the whole village.<br \/>\nAnd then, as a sign<br \/>\nof contentment,<br \/>\nthe good animal moved head and tail,<br \/>\nand entered the convent with Francis of Assisi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For some time, the wolf remained quiet<br \/>\nin the holy asylum.<br \/>\nHis large ears listened to the psalms<br \/>\nand his light eyes became moist.<br \/>\nIt learned a thousand talents and played a thousand games<br \/>\nWhen he went to the kitchen with the laymen.<br \/>\nAnd when Francis prayed,<br \/>\nthe wolf, the poor sandals, caressed.<br \/>\nHe went out to the street,<br \/>\nhe went to the hill, came down to the valley,<br \/>\ncame into the houses, and was given<br \/>\nsome food. They saw him as a gentle greyhound.<br \/>\nOne day, Francis went away. And the sweet wolf,<br \/>\nthe meek and good wolf, the honest wolf,<br \/>\ndisappeared, went back to the mountain,<br \/>\nand his howling and fury began again.<br \/>\nAgain, there was fear, there was alarm,<br \/>\namong neighbors and shepherds;<br \/>\nfilled the surroundings with fear,<br \/>\ncourage and arms were no good,<br \/>\nfor the fierce beast,<br \/>\nnever gave truce to his fury,<br \/>\nas if he had<br \/>\nthe fires of Moloch and Satan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When the divine saint came back to the village,<br \/>\nall came to him with complaints and tears,<br \/>\nand with a thousand wails they gave testimony,<br \/>\nof what they suffered and lost<br \/>\nby that infamous demon wolf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Francis of Assisi went grave.<br \/>\nHe went to the mountain<br \/>\nTo look for the false butcher wolf.<br \/>\nAnd found the vermin by his cave.<br \/>\nIn the name of the father of the holy universe,<br \/>\nI conjure you \u2013 he said \u2013, Oh wicked wolf!,<br \/>\nto answer to me: why have you gone back to evil?<br \/>\nAnswer. I hear you.<br \/>\nAs in a deaf struggle the animal spoke,<br \/>\nthe foaming mouth and the fatal eye:<br \/>\n\u2013 Brother Francis, do not come too near\u2026<br \/>\nI was quiet there in the convent;<br \/>\nI visited the village,<br \/>\nand if they gave me something, I was happy,<br \/>\nand ate meekly.<br \/>\nBut I started to see that in all of the houses<br \/>\nthere was envy, anger and rage,<br \/>\nand in every face burnt fathoms<br \/>\nof hatred, lust, infamy and lies.<br \/>\nBrothers made war to brothers,<br \/>\nthe weak lost, the evil won,<br \/>\nfemale and male were like dogs and bitches,<br \/>\nand then came the day when they all hit me with sticks.<br \/>\nThey saw me humble, I licked their hands<br \/>\nand feet. I followed your sacred laws,<br \/>\nall creatures were my siblings:<br \/>\nbrother men, brother oxen,<br \/>\nsister stars and brother worms.<br \/>\nAnd thus, they hit me and threw me out.<br \/>\nAnd their laughter was like boiling water,<br \/>\nand the beast revived within my gut,<br \/>\nand I suddenly felt a bad wolf again;<br \/>\nbut always better than those bad people.<br \/>\nAnd restarted to fight here,<br \/>\nto defend myself and to feed myself.<br \/>\nAs the bear does, as the wild boar does,<br \/>\nthat in order to live they have to kill.<br \/>\nLeave me in the mountain, leave me in the crag,<br \/>\nlet me be at my liberty,<br \/>\ngo back to your convent, brother Francis,<br \/>\ngo back to your way and sanctity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The holy man from Assisi said nothing.<br \/>\nLooked at the wolf with a profound gaze,<br \/>\nand parted with tears and heartbroken,<br \/>\nand spoke to the eternal God with his heart.<br \/>\nThe wind from the forest carried his prayer,<br \/>\nwhich said: Our father who art in Heaven\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">December 1913<\/p>\n<p>[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[:es] Primera Parte: LOS MOTIVOS DEL LOBO.
