-*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Ahora bien, lo primero que tiene usted qu\u00e9 saber o entender es que los zapatistas, cuando vamos a hacer algo, nos preparamos primero para lo peor.\u00a0 Se parte de un final de fracaso, y, en sentido inverso, nos preparamos para enfrentarlo o, en el mejor de los casos, evitarlo.<\/p>\n Por ejemplo, imaginamos que nos atacan, las masacres de rigor, el genocidio vestido de civilizaci\u00f3n moderna, el exterminio total.\u00a0 Y nos preparamos para esas posibilidades.\u00a0 Bueno, para el Primero de Enero de 1994, no imaginamos la derrota, la asumimos como una certeza.<\/p>\n En fin, que tal vez eso le ayude a usted a entender el por qu\u00e9 de nuestro pasmo inicial, nuestros titubeos y una improvisaci\u00f3n desconcertante cuando, despu\u00e9s de mucho tiempo, trabajo y preparaci\u00f3n para la ruina, nos encontramos con que\u2026 vivimos.<\/p>\n A partir de ese escepticismo es que se desarrollan nuestras iniciativas.\u00a0 Algunas peque\u00f1as, otras m\u00e1s grandes, delirantes todas, nuestras convocatorias siempre van dirigidas a \u201clo otro\u201d, lo que est\u00e1 m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de nuestro horizonte cotidiano, pero que reconocemos como algo que es necesario en la lucha por la vida, es decir, en la lucha por la humanidad.<\/p>\n En esta iniciativa o apuesta o delirio o sinraz\u00f3n, por ejemplo, en su versi\u00f3n mar\u00edtima nos preparamos para que el Kraken, una tormenta o una ballena blanca extraviada hicieran naufragar la embarcaci\u00f3n, por eso fabricamos cayucos -y viajaron con el Escuadr\u00f3n 421 en La Monta\u00f1a hasta llegar a Vigo, Galicia, Estado Espa\u00f1ol, Europa-.<\/p>\n Tambi\u00e9n nos preparamos para no ser bienvenidos, por eso buscamos antes el consenso para la invasi\u00f3n, es decir, la visita\u2026 Bueno, de eso de ser \u201cbienvenidos\u201d no estamos muy seguros todav\u00eda.\u00a0 Para m\u00e1s de uno, una, unoa<\/em>, nuestra presencia es perturbadora, por decir lo menos, cuando no francamente irruptora.\u00a0 Y lo entendemos, puede ser que a alguien, despu\u00e9s de un a\u00f1o o m\u00e1s de estar en confinamiento, le resulte al menos inoportuno que un grupo de ind\u00edgenas de ra\u00edz maya, tan poca cosa como productores y consumidores de mercanc\u00edas (electorales y no), pretenda platicar en persona.\u00a0 \u00a1En persona! (\u00bfrecuerda usted que antes eso era parte de su cotidianeidad?).\u00a0 Y, adem\u00e1s, que tenga como misi\u00f3n principal el escucharle a usted, llenarlo de preguntas, compartir pesadillas y, claro, sue\u00f1os.<\/p>\n Nos preparamos para que los malos gobiernos, de uno y otro lado, nos impidan u obstaculicen la salida y la llegada, por eso alg\u00fan@s zapatistas ya est\u00e1bamos en Europa\u2026 Ups, no deb\u00ed escribir eso, b\u00f3rrenlo.\u00a0 Ya sabemos que el gobierno mexicano no pondr\u00e1 obst\u00e1culos.\u00a0 Falta ver qu\u00e9 dicen y hacen los dem\u00e1s gobiernos europeos \u2013porque Portugal y el Estado Espa\u00f1ol no se opusieron-.<\/p>\n Nos preparamos para que fracase la misi\u00f3n, es decir, que se convierta en un evento medi\u00e1tico y, por lo mismo, fugaz e intrascendente.\u00a0 Por eso primordialmente aceptamos las invitaciones de quienes quieren escuchar y hablar, o sea platicar.\u00a0 Porque nuestro objetivo principal no son los actos masivos \u2013aunque no los excluimos-, sino el intercambio de historias, conocimientos, sentimientos, valoraciones, retos, fracasos y \u00e9xitos.<\/p>\n Nos prepararemos para que falle el avi\u00f3n, por eso fabricamos paraca\u00eddas con bordados de muchos colores para que, en lugar de un \u201cD\u00eda D<\/em>\u201d en Normand\u00eda (oh, oh, \u00bfquiere decir eso que el desembarco a\u00e9reo ser\u00eda en Francia?\u2026 \u00bfeh?\u2026 \u00a1\u00bfen Par\u00eds?!), sea un \u201cD\u00eda Z<\/em>\u201d para la Europa de abajo, y parecer\u00e1 entonces que del cielo, llueven flores como si Ixchel<\/em>, diosa madre, diosa arco\u00edris, nos acompa\u00f1ara y, de su mano y con su vuelo, abrir un segundo frente para la invasi\u00f3n.\u00a0 Y m\u00e1s seguro porque ahora, gracias a la Galicia de abajo, el escuadr\u00f3n 421 ha logrado afianzar una cabeza de playa en las tierras de Breog\u00e1n<\/em>.<\/p>\n En suma, siempre nos preparamos para fracasar\u2026 y para morir.\u00a0 Por eso la vida, para el zapatismo, es una sorpresa que hay que celebrar todos los d\u00edas, a todas horas.\u00a0 Y qu\u00e9 m\u00e1s que mejor si es con bailes, m\u00fasica, artes.<\/p>\n Durante todos estos a\u00f1os hemos aprendido muchas cosas.\u00a0 Acaso la m\u00e1s importante es darnos cuenta de lo peque\u00f1os que somos.\u00a0 Y no me refiero a estatura y peso, sino al tama\u00f1o de nuestro empe\u00f1o.\u00a0 Los contactos con personas, grupos, colectivos, movimientos y organizaciones de diferentes partes del planeta, nos han mostrado un mundo diverso, m\u00faltiple y complejo.\u00a0 Con esto se ha reforzado nuestra convicci\u00f3n de que toda propuesta de hegemon\u00eda y homogeneidad no s\u00f3lo es imposible, es, sobre todo, criminal.<\/p>\n Porque los intentos -no pocas veces ocultos detr\u00e1s de nacionalismos de cart\u00f3n piedra en los escaparates del mall<\/em> de la pol\u00edtica electoral-, de imposici\u00f3n de modos y miradas, son criminales porque pretenden el exterminio de diferencias de todo tipo.<\/p>\n Lo otro es el enemigo: la diferencia de g\u00e9nero, racial, de identidad sexual o asexual, de lengua, de color de piel, de cultura, de credo o descredo<\/em>, de concepci\u00f3n del mundo, de f\u00edsico, de estereotipo de belleza, de historia.\u00a0 Contando con todos los mundos que en el mundo son, pr\u00e1cticamente hay tantos enemigos, actuales o potenciales, como seres humanos.<\/p>\n Y podr\u00edamos decir que casi cualquier afirmaci\u00f3n de identidad es una declaraci\u00f3n de guerra para lo diferente.\u00a0 He dicho \u201ccasi\u201d, y a ese \u201ccasi\u201d nos aferramos como zapatistas que somos.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Seg\u00fan nuestros modos, nuestros calendarios y en nuestra geograf\u00eda, hemos llegado a la conclusi\u00f3n de que siempre es posible que la pesadilla empeore.\u00a0 La pandemia del llamado \u201cCoronavirus\u201d no es el apocalipsis.\u00a0 Es s\u00f3lo su preludio.\u00a0 Si los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n y las redes sociales nos quer\u00edan tranquilizar, antes, \u201cinformando\u201d sobre la extinci\u00f3n de un glaciar, de un terremoto, de un tsunami, de una guerra en una parte lejana del planeta, del asesinato de otro ind\u00edgena por paramilitares, de una nueva agresi\u00f3n a Palestina o al pueblo mapuche, de la brutalidad gubernamental en Colombia y Nicaragua, de im\u00e1genes de campos de migrantes que son de otro lugar, otro continente, otro mundo, y as\u00ed nos convencen de que eso \u201cpasa en otro lado\u201d; en tan s\u00f3lo unas semanas, la pandemia demostr\u00f3 que el mundo puede ser apenas una peque\u00f1a parroquia ego\u00edsta, necia y vulnerable.\u00a0 Los distintos gobiernos nacionales son las pandillas que pretenden controlar, con violencia \u201clegal\u201d, una calle o un barrio, pero el \u201ccapo\u201d que controla todo es el capital.<\/p>\n En fin, que se vienen cosas peores.\u00a0 Pero eso usted ya lo sab\u00eda, \u00bfno?\u00a0 Y si no, pues ya va siendo hora de que se entere.\u00a0 Porque, adem\u00e1s de tratar de convencerle de que las penas y las desgracias siempre ser\u00e1n ajenas (hasta que dejan de serlo y se sientan con usted a la mesa, le perturban el sue\u00f1o y le dejan sin l\u00e1grimas), le dicen que la mejor forma de enfrentar esas amenazas es individualmente.<\/p>\n Que el mal se evita alej\u00e1ndose de \u00e9l, construyendo su mundo estanco, y haci\u00e9ndolo cada vez m\u00e1s estrecho hasta que s\u00f3lo cabe el \u201cyo, mi, me, conmigo\u201d.\u00a0 Y para eso, pues le ofrecen \u201cenemigos\u201d a modo, siempre con un flanco d\u00e9bil y al que es posible derrotar adquiriendo, oiga usted, este art\u00edculo que, mire qu\u00e9 casualidad, por esta \u00fanica ocasi\u00f3n, tenemos en oferta y podr\u00e1 usted adquirirlo y recibirlo en la puerta de su bunker en cuesti\u00f3n de horas, d\u00edas\u2026 o semanas<\/em>, porque la m\u00e1quina ha descubierto, oh sorpresa, que la paga depende tambi\u00e9n de la circulaci\u00f3n de las mercanc\u00edas, y que, si ese proceso se detiene o aletarga, la bestia sufre\u2026 as\u00ed que tambi\u00e9n es negocio su distribuci\u00f3n y reparto.<\/p>\n Pero, como zapatistas que somos, hemos estudiado y analizado.\u00a0 Y queremos confrontar las conclusiones a las que hemos llegado, con cient\u00edficos, artistas, fil\u00f3sofos y analistas cr\u00edticos de todo el mundo.<\/p>\n Pero no s\u00f3lo, tambi\u00e9n y especialmente con quienes, en la cotidianidad de sus luchas, han padecido y advertido las desgracias por venir.\u00a0 Porque, en lo que a lo social se refiere,<\/strong> tenemos en alta estima el an\u00e1lisis y la valoraci\u00f3n de quien se juega el pellejo en el combate contra la m\u00e1quina, y somos esc\u00e9pticos de la de quien, desde la \u00f3ptica externa, opina, valora, aconseja, juzga y condena o absuelve.<\/strong><\/p>\n Pero, ojo, consideramos que esa mirada cr\u00edtica \u201coutsider<\/em>\u201d es necesaria y vital, porque permite ver cosas que no se miran en el fragor de la lucha y, atenci\u00f3n, aporta conocimientos sobre la genealog\u00eda de la bestia, sus transformaciones y su funcionamiento.<\/p>\n En fin, que queremos hablar y, sobre todo, escuchar a quien se ponga a modo.\u00a0 Y no nos importa su color, tama\u00f1o, raza, sexo, religi\u00f3n, militancia pol\u00edtica o traspi\u00e9 ideol\u00f3gico, si es que coincide en el retrato hablado de la m\u00e1quina asesina.<\/p>\n Porque si, cuando hablamos del criminal, alguien lo identifica con el destino fat\u00eddico, la mala suerte, \u201cel orden natural de las cosas\u201d, el enfado divino, la desidia o el desenfado, pues ah\u00ed no tenemos ning\u00fan inter\u00e9s en escuchar ni en hablar.\u00a0 Para conocer esas explicaciones basta con ver telenovelas y acudir a las redes sociales en busca de confirmaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n Es decir, creemos haber establecido qui\u00e9n es el criminal, su modus operandi y el crimen en s\u00ed.\u00a0 Estas 3 caracter\u00edsticas se sintetizan en un sistema, es decir, en una forma de relacionarse con la humanidad y con la naturaleza: el capitalismo.<\/p>\n Sabemos que es un crimen en curso y que su consecuci\u00f3n ser\u00e1 desastrosa para el mundo entero.\u00a0 Pero no es \u00e9sa la conclusi\u00f3n que nos interesa corroborar, no.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Porque resulta que, tambi\u00e9n estudiando y analizando, hemos descubierto algo que puede ser o no importante.\u00a0 Depende.<\/p>\n Dando por sentado que este planeta ser\u00e1 aniquilado, al menos como hasta ahora lo percibimos, hemos estado investigando sobre las posibles opciones.<\/p>\n Es decir, el barco se hunde y all\u00e1 arriba dicen que no pasa nada, que es pasajero.\u00a0 S\u00ed, como cuando el buque-tanque Prestige<\/em> naufrag\u00f3 frente a costas europeas (2002) \u2013 Galicia fue testigo y v\u00edctima primera-, y las autoridades empresariales y gubernamentales dec\u00edan que apenas unos chorritos de combustible se hab\u00edan derramado. \u00a0El desastre no lo pagaron ni el Mand\u00f3n, ni sus capataces y mayorales.\u00a0 Lo pagaron, y lo siguen pagando, los poblados que viven de la pesca en esas costas.\u00a0 Ellos y sus descendientes.<\/p>\n Y por \u201cBarco\u201d nos referimos al planeta homogeneizado y hegemonizado por un sistema: el capitalismo.\u00a0 Claro, podr\u00e1n decir que \u201c\u00e9se no es nuestro barco\u201d, pero el hundimiento en curso no es s\u00f3lo de un sistema, sino del mundo entero, completo, total, hasta el rinc\u00f3n m\u00e1s apartado y aislado, y no s\u00f3lo el de sus centros de Poder.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Entendemos que alguien piense, y act\u00fae en consecuencia, que es posible todav\u00eda remendar, parchar, pintar un poco aqu\u00ed y all\u00e1, remozar la embarcaci\u00f3n.\u00a0 Mantenerla a flote como sea, incluso vendiendo la fantas\u00eda de que son posibles megaproyectos<\/em> que no s\u00f3lo no aniquilen poblados enteros, tambi\u00e9n que no afecten a la naturaleza.<\/p>\n Que existan personas que piensen que basta con estar muy decididos y echarle ganas al maquillaje (al menos hasta que pasen los procesos electorales).\u00a0 Y que crean que la mejor respuesta a los reclamos de \u201cNunca mais<\/em>\u201d -que se repiten en todos los rincones del planeta-, sean promesas y dinero, programas pol\u00edticos y dinero, buenas intenciones y dinero, banderas y dinero, fanatismos y dinero.\u00a0 Que sean fieles creyentes de que los problemas del mundo se reducen a la falta de dinero.<\/p>\n Y el dinero necesita carreteras, grandes proyectos civilizatorios, hoteles, centros comerciales, f\u00e1bricas, bancos, mano de obra, consumidores,\u2026 polic\u00edas y ej\u00e9rcitos.<\/p>\n Las as\u00ed llamadas \u201ccomunidades rurales\u201d son clasificadas como \u201ccarentes de desarrollo\u201d o \u201catrasadas\u201d porque la circulaci\u00f3n de dinero, es decir de mercanc\u00edas, es inexistente o muy reducida.\u00a0 No importa que, por ejemplo, su tasa de feminicidios y de violencia de g\u00e9nero sea menor comparada con la de las urbes.\u00a0 Los logros gubernamentales se miden por la cantidad de zonas destruidas y repobladas por productores y consumidores de mercanc\u00edas, gracias a la reconstrucci\u00f3n de ese territorio.\u00a0 Donde antes hab\u00eda una milpa, un manantial, un bosque, ahora hay hoteles, centros comerciales, f\u00e1bricas, termoel\u00e9ctricas,\u2026 violencia de g\u00e9nero, persecuci\u00f3n de la diferencia, narcotr\u00e1fico, infanticidios, tr\u00e1fico de personas, explotaci\u00f3n, racismo, discriminaci\u00f3n.\u00a0 En suma: c-i-v-i-l-i-z-a-c-i-\u00f3-n.<\/p>\n Su idea es que la poblaci\u00f3n campesina se convierta en empleada de esa \u201curbanizaci\u00f3n\u201d.\u00a0 Seguir\u00e1n viviendo, trabajando y consumiendo en su localidad, pero el due\u00f1o de todo su entorno es un conglomerado industrial-comercial-financiero-militar cuya sede est\u00e1 en el ciberespacio y para quien ese territorio conquistado es s\u00f3lo un punto en el mapa, un porcentaje de ganancias, una mercanc\u00eda.\u00a0 Y el resultado real ser\u00e1 que la poblaci\u00f3n originaria tendr\u00e1 que migrar, porque el capital llegar\u00e1 con sus propios empleados \u201ccalificados\u201d.\u00a0 A la poblaci\u00f3n originaria le tocar\u00e1 regar jardines y limpiar estacionamientos, locales y albercas donde antes hab\u00eda campos de cultivo, bosques, costas, lagunas, r\u00edos y manantiales.<\/p>\n Lo que se oculta es que, detr\u00e1s de las expansiones (\u201cguerras de conquista\u201d) de los Estados -sean internas (\u201cincorporando a m\u00e1s poblaci\u00f3n a la modernidad\u201d), o sean externas con distintas coartadas (como la del gobierno de Israel en su guerra contra Palestina)-, hay una l\u00f3gica com\u00fan: la conquista de un territorio por la mercanc\u00eda, es decir por el dinero, es decir por el capital.<\/p>\n Pero entendemos que esa gente, para poder llegar a ser el cajero que administre los pagos y cobros que le dan vida a la m\u00e1quina, forme partidos pol\u00edticos electorales, frentes -amplios o estrechos- para disputar el acceso al gobierno, alianzas y rupturas \u201cestrat\u00e9gicas\u201d, y todos los matices en los que se empe\u00f1an esfuerzos y vidas que, detr\u00e1s de peque\u00f1os \u00e9xitos, esconden grandes fracasos.\u00a0 Una peque\u00f1a ley por ah\u00ed, una interlocuci\u00f3n oficial aqu\u00ed, una nota period\u00edstica all\u00e1, un tuit<\/em> m\u00e1s ac\u00e1, un like<\/em> acull\u00e1, y sin embargo, por poner un ejemplo de un crimen mundial en curso, los feminicidios van en aumento.\u00a0 En el entretanto sube la izquierda y baja, sube la derecha y baja, sube el centro y baja.\u00a0 Como cantaba la inolvidable malague\u00f1a Marisol, \u201cla vida es una t\u00f3mbola\u201d: todos (arriba) ganan, todas (abajo) pierden.<\/p>\n Pero la \u201ccivilizaci\u00f3n\u201d es s\u00f3lo una coartada endeble para una destrucci\u00f3n brutal.\u00a0 El veneno sigue brotando (ya no del Prestige<\/em> \u2013o no s\u00f3lo de ese nav\u00edo-), y el sistema entero parece estar dispuesto a intoxicar hasta el \u00faltimo rinc\u00f3n del planeta, porque son m\u00e1s rentables la destrucci\u00f3n y la muerte que detener la m\u00e1quina.<\/p>\n Estamos seguros que usted podr\u00e1 agregar m\u00e1s y m\u00e1s ejemplos.\u00a0 Botones de muestra de una pesadilla irracional y, sin embargo, actuante.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Entonces, desde hace varias d\u00e9cadas nos hemos concentrado en buscar alternativas.\u00a0 La construcci\u00f3n de balsas, cayucos, lanchas, y a\u00fan de embarcaciones m\u00e1s grandes\u00a0 (la 6ta como improbable arca), tienen un horizonte bien definido.\u00a0 En alg\u00fan lugar habr\u00e1 que desembarcar.<\/p>\n Le\u00edmos y leemos.\u00a0 Estudiamos y lo seguimos haciendo.\u00a0 Analizamos antes y ahora.\u00a0 Abrimos el coraz\u00f3n y la mirada, no a ideolog\u00edas actuales o pasadas de moda, sino a las ciencias, a las artes y a nuestras historias como pueblos originarios.\u00a0 Y con esos conocimientos y herramientas, nos hemos encontrado con que hay, en este sistema solar, un planeta que podr\u00eda ser habitable: el tercero del sistema solar y que, hasta ahora, aparece en los libros escolares y cient\u00edficos con el nombre de \u201cLa Tierra\u201d.\u00a0 Para m\u00e1s referencia, est\u00e1 entre Venus y Marte.\u00a0 Es decir, seg\u00fan ciertas culturas, est\u00e1 entre el amor y la guerra.<\/p>\n El problema es que ese planeta es ya un mont\u00f3n de escombros, pesadillas reales, y horrores tangibles.\u00a0 Es poco lo que queda en pie.\u00a0 Incluso la tramoya que oculta la cat\u00e1strofe se agrieta.\u00a0 Entonces, pues, \u00bfc\u00f3mo les dir\u00e9?, el asunto no es conquistar ese mundo y disfrutar de lo placeres de quien vence.\u00a0 Es m\u00e1s complicado y requiere, \u00e9se s\u00ed, un esfuerzo mundial: hay que hacerlo de nuevo.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Ahora bien, seg\u00fan las grandes producciones f\u00edlmicas de Hollywood, la salida frente a la cat\u00e1strofe mundial (siempre algo externo \u2013alien\u00edgenas, meteoros, pandemias inexplicables, zombis parecidos a candidatos a alg\u00fan puesto p\u00fablico-), es producto de una uni\u00f3n de todos los gobiernos del mundo (encabezados por los gringos)\u2026 o, peor, del gobierno estadunidense sintetizado en un individuo, o individua<\/em> (porque la m\u00e1quina ya aprendi\u00f3 que la farsa debe ser incluyente), que puede tener las caracter\u00edsticas raciales y de g\u00e9nero pol\u00edticamente correctas, pero lleva en su pecho la marca de la Hidra.<\/p>\n Pero, lejos de esas ficciones, la realidad nos muestra que todo es negocio: el sistema produce la destrucci\u00f3n y te vende los boletos para que huyas de ella\u2026 al espacio.\u00a0 Y de seguro, en las oficinas de las grandes corporaciones, hay brillantes proyectos de colonizaci\u00f3n interestelar\u2026\u00a0 con la propiedad privada de los medios de producci\u00f3n incluida.\u00a0 Es decir, el sistema se traslada, \u00edntegro, a otro planeta.\u00a0 El \u201call included<\/em>\u201d se refiere a quienes trabajan, a quienes viven sobre de quienes trabajan y a su relaci\u00f3n de explotaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n Pero a veces no s\u00f3lo miran al espacio.\u00a0 El capitalismo \u201cverde\u201d pugna por zonas \u201cprotegidas\u201d en el planeta.\u00a0 Burbujas ecol\u00f3gicas donde pueda resguardarse la bestia mientras el planeta se cura de los mordiscos (lo cual tomar\u00eda apenas unos cuantos millones de a\u00f1os).<\/p>\n Cuando la m\u00e1quina habla de \u201cun nuevo mundo\u201d o \u201cde humanizar el planeta\u201d, est\u00e1 pensando en territorios a conquistar, despoblar y destruir, para luego repoblar y reconstruir con la misma l\u00f3gica que ahora tiene al mundo entero frente al abismo, siempre dispuesto a dar el paso adelante que el progreso demanda.<\/p>\n Usted podr\u00e1 pensar que no es posible que alguien sea tan imb\u00e9cil como para destruir la casa donde vive.\u00a0 \u201cLa rana no bebe toda el agua del charco que habita<\/em>\u201d, dicen que dice un proverbio del pueblo originario Sioux.\u00a0 Pero si usted pretende aplicar una l\u00f3gica racional al funcionamiento de la m\u00e1quina, no entender\u00e1 (bueno, tampoco la m\u00e1quina).\u00a0 De nada sirven valoraciones morales y \u00e9ticas.\u00a0 La l\u00f3gica de la bestia es la ganancia.\u00a0 Claro, ahora usted podr\u00e1 preguntarse c\u00f3mo es posible que una m\u00e1quina irracional, inmoral y est\u00fapida rija los destinos de todo un planeta.\u00a0 Ah, (suspiro), eso est\u00e1 en su genealog\u00eda, en su esencia misma.<\/p>\n Pero, depende del n\u00famero de sus \u201cseguidores\u201d en las redes sociales habidas y por haber).\u00a0 Y entonces usted decide abrazar, con fe, esperanza y caridad, alguna de las opciones que se le [:en]<\/p>\n June 2021<\/p>\n A clarification: often when we say \u201clos Zapatistas,<\/em>\u201d we are not referring to men, but to the Zapatista villages [pueblos<\/em>]. And when we say \u201clas Zapatistas,<\/em>\u201d we\u2019re not describing women, but the Zapatista communities [comunidades<\/em>]. That\u2019s why you\u2019ll notice this \u2018gender-hopping\u2019 in our wording. When we refer to gender we always use \u201cotroa<\/em>\u201d to mark the existence and struggle of those who are neither men nor women (our ignorance on the subject prevents us from going to details\u2014but soon we will learn to name all of the differences).<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0 That said, the first thing that you should know or understand about the Zapatistas is that when we are going to do something, we prepare first for the worst. We start with a disastrous ending and prepare in reverse to confront it, or ideally to avoid it.<\/p>\n For example, we imagine being attacked: the usual massacres, genocide disguised as modern civilization, total extermination\u2014and we prepare for those possibilities. On January 1, 1994, we did not imagine defeat: we assumed it as a certainty.<\/p>\n Maybe that helps you understand our initial shock, hesitation, and any puzzling improvisation on our part when, after so much time, effort, and preparation for ruin, we discovered that\u2026we live.<\/p>\n So it is out of that skepticism that we develop our initiatives: some smaller, some larger, all outrageous. Our calls are always directed at \u201cthe other,\u201d that which is beyond our daily horizon but which we recognize as necessary in the struggle for life, which is to say in the struggle for humanity.<\/p>\n In the maritime version of this initiative-gamble-delirium-folly, we prepared for the Kraken, a storm, or a stray white whale to wreck the vessel. That\u2019s why we carved canoes and sent them with the 421st<\/sup> Squadron on La Monta\u00f1a<\/em> all the way to Vigo, Galicia, Spanish State, Europe.<\/p>\n We also knew that we might not be welcomed, so we sought in advance consensus for the invasion\u2014that is, the visit\u2026 Actually, we\u2019re still not sure whether we\u2019re exactly \u201cwelcome\u201d. For more than one man, woman, or other [una, uno, unoa<\/em>], our presence is annoying, if not frankly disruptive. And we get it: it could be that after a year or more of lockdown, some might find it inconvenient that a group of indigenous Mayans, mere producers and consumers of commodities (electoral or otherwise), would try to talk in person. In person! (Do you remember how that used to be a part of daily life?) And worse, that they would make it their principal mission to listen to you, to pepper you with questions, to share nightmares and, of course, dreams.<\/p>\n \u00a0We prepared for the bad governments to impede or put up obstacles to our departure and arrival in one way or another; that\u2019s why a few Zapatistas were already in Europe\u2026 Oops, I shouldn\u2019t have put that down on paper, erase that. We already knew that the Mexican government would create obstacles for us. It remains to be seen what the rest of the European governments will say and do\u2014so far Portugal and the Spanish State did not put up any opposition.<\/p>\n We prepared for the mission to fail, that is, for it to turn into a media event and by the same token become fleeting and irrelevant. That\u2019s why we primarily accepted the invitations of those who wanted to listen and talk, that is, to converse, because our principal objective is not massive demonstrations\u2014though we do not rule them out\u2014but the exchange of stories, knowledge, feelings, assessments, challenges, failures, and successes.<\/p>\n We prepared for the plane to fail: that is why we embroidered parachutes of many colors so that instead of a \u201cD Day\u201d in Normandy (oh, oh, does that mean that the plane landing will be in France?\u2026 Huh?\u2026 In Paris??), there would be a \u201cZ Day\u201d for the Europe of below, and it would look like the sky is raining flowers, as if Ixchel[i]<\/a>, mother goddess, rainbow goddess, is accompanying us, and with her hand and her flight, opening a second front for the invasion; even better now that, thanks to the Galicia of below, the 421st<\/sup> Squadron has managed to secure access to a beachhead in the lands of Breog\u00e1n[ii]<\/strong><\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n In short, we are always prepared to fail\u2026 and to die. For that reason, life, for Zapatismo, is a surprise that must be celebrated every day, all the time; even better if it includes dancing, music, and art.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0Over all these years we have learned many things, perhaps most importantly how small we are, and I\u2019m not referring to stature or weight but the size of our endeavor. Contact with people, groups, collectives, movements and organizations from different parts of the planet has shown us a diverse, multiple, and complex world which has reinforced our conviction that any proposal of hegemony or homogeneity is not only impossible but is, above all, criminal.<\/p>\n Attempts to impose ways and gazes\u2014not infrequently hidden behind cardboard nationalisms in the window displays of the mall of electoral politics\u2014are criminal because they aim to exterminate differences of all kinds.<\/p>\n The other is the enemy: the differences in gender, race, sexual or asexual identity, language, skin color, culture, belief or disbelief<\/em>, conceptualization of the world, physique, beauty stereotype, story. Taking into account all the worlds there are in the world, there are practically as many enemies, real or potential, as there are human beings.<\/p>\n We could say that almost any affirmation of identity is a declaration of war against difference. I said \u201calmost,\u201d and we cling to that \u201calmost\u201d as the Zapatistas that we are.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0According to our ways, our calendars, and in our geography, we have reached the conclusion that it is always possible for the nightmare to get worse. The pandemic of the so-called \u201cCoronavirus\u201d is not the apocalypse; it is only its prelude. If the media and the social networks wanted to pacify us before, \u201cinforming\u201d us about the extinction of a glacier, an earthquake, a tsunami, a war in a distant part of the planet, the assassination of another indigenous person by paramilitaries, a new aggression against Palestine or the Mapuche people, governmental brutality in Columbia and Nicaragua, images of camps of migrants from another place, another continent, another world, thereby convincing us that that is all \u201chappening elsewhere,\u201d in just a few weeks, the pandemic showed that the world can be merely a parochial, selfish, stubborn and vulnerable backwater. The different national governments are the gangs that aim to control a street or a neighborhood through \u201clegal\u201d violence, but the \u201ckingpin\u201d who controls everything is capital.<\/p>\n In short, worse things are coming. But you already knew that, right? And if not, well then it\u2019s time that you found out. Because, in addition to trying to convince you that pain and misfortune will always befall others (until they don\u2019t anymore, until they sit down with you at the table, disrupt your sleep and leave you without tears), they tell you that the best way to confront these threats is as a lone individual.<\/p>\n They tell you that you can avoid evil by distancing yourself from it, building a self-contained world, and constantly shrinking it until all that fits is \u201cI, me, mine.\u201d And for that purpose they offer you custom \u201cenemies,\u201d always with a weak flank and easily defeated via buying and consuming: Hey, you, take a look at this it<\/em>em that coincidentally is on sale today only, you can buy it and receive it at the door of your bunker in a matter of hours, days\u2026 or weeks<\/em>, because the machine has discovered (surprise!) that its money also depends on the circulation of commodities, and, if that process stops or slows down, the beast suffers\u2026 so distribution and delivery is also profitable.<\/p>\n But, as Zapatistas we are, we have studied and analyzed and we want to interrogate the conclusions we have arrived at through encounters with scientists, artists, philosophers, and critical analysists from all over the world.<\/p>\n But not just them: also and especially with those who, in the everydayness of their struggles, have endured and warned about the tragedies to come. In the social realm, we hold in high esteem the analysis and assessment of whoever puts their skin in the game in the fight against the machine, and we are skeptical of those who opine, assess, advise, judge, and condemn or absolve from an outside perspective. <\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Note, however, that we consider the critical gaze of the \u201coutsider\u201d to be necessary and vital because it allows us to see things that can\u2019t be seen in the thick of the fight and provides knowledge about the genealogy of the beast, its transformations and its functioning.<\/p>\n In short, we want to speak with and above all to listen to whomever is up for it. And their color, size, race, sex, religion, political militancy, or ideological stumbling do not matter to us, as long as we agree on the general outlines of the murder machine as we have discussed.<\/p>\n Note though that if in speaking about the criminal, someone sees it as a predetermined fate, bad luck, \u201cthe natural order of things,\u201d divine wrath, laziness, or human nature, then in that case we have no interest in listening or talking. To understand those explanations it suffices to watch telenovelas<\/em> and get on social media in search of confirmation.<\/p>\n Which is to say, we believe that we have established the identity of the criminal, their modus operandi, and the crime itself. Those three characteristics combine to form a system, or a way of relating with humanity and with nature: capitalism.<\/p>\n We know that the crime is ongoing and that its culmination will be catastrophic for the entire world. But, no, that\u2019s not the conclusion that we want to corroborate.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n It turns out that, also through studying and analyzing, we have discovered something that could be important, or not; it depends.<\/p>\n Taking it as a given that this planet will be annihilated, at least the form in which we currently perceive it, we have been researching the possible options.<\/p>\n That is, the boat is sinking and up above they say that nothing is wrong, that it is temporary. Yes, like when the tanker Prestige<\/em> shipwrecked on the European coasts (2002)\u2014Galicia was the first witness and victim\u2014and the corporate and governmental authorities said that only a few trickles of oil had spilled. Neither the boss nor his overseers and managers paid for the disaster. The towns that survive by fishing on those coasts paid for it, and are still paying for it, as will their descendants.<\/p>\n By \u201cboat\u201d we mean the planet that is homogenized and hegemonized by a system: capitalism. Of course, they\u2019ll be able to say that \u201cthat\u2019s not our boat,\u201d because what\u2019s sinking is not just one system but the whole entire world, including the most distant and isolated corners, and not just in its centers of Power.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0We understand that there are some who believe that it\u2019s still possible to mend, patch, paint a little here and there, and remodel the boat, and who act accordingly. But to keep it floating by any means necessary also means selling the fantasy that it\u2019s possible to have megaprojects<\/em> which will not only not destroy entire villages but which also will not affect nature.<\/p>\n We understand there are people who think that it\u2019s enough to be very determined and to enthusiastically apply makeup (at least until the elections are over). There are those who believe that the best response to the cries of \u201cNunca mais<\/em>\u201d [Never again!] that are repeated in every corner of the planet will be promises and money, political programs and money, good intentions and money, flags and money, fanaticisms and money. There are the faithful who believe that the problems of the world can be reduced to a lack of money.<\/p>\n And money requires roads, large-scale civilizing projects, hotels, malls, factories, banks, labor, consumers\u2026 police and armies.<\/p>\n The so-called \u201crural communities\u201d are classified as \u201cunderdeveloped\u201d or \u201cbackwards\u201d because the circulation of money, that is, of commodities, is nonexistent or very minimal. It\u2019s not important, for example, that their rate of femicide and gender-based violence are lower than in urban areas. Government achievements are measured by the number of neighborhoods destroyed and repopulated by producers and consumers of commodities, thanks to the reconstruction of that territory. Where before there was a milpa<\/em>, natural spring or forest, now there are hotels, malls, factories, power plants\u2026 gender violence, persecution of difference, drug trafficking, infanticide, human trafficking, exploitation, racism and discrimination. In short: c-i-v-i-l-i-z-a-t-i-o-n.<\/p>\n Their idea is that the rural population becomes an employee of the \u201curbanization\u201d process. They will go on living, working, and consuming in their locality, but the owner of all of their surroundings will be an industrial-commercial-financial-military conglomerate whose headquarters is in cyberspace and for whom the conquered territory is just a point on the map, a percentage of profits, a commodity. And the real result will be that the originary population will have to migrate, because capital will bring with it its own \u201cqualified\u201d employees. The originary population will have to water gardens and clean parking lots, storefronts and pools where before there was farmland, forests, coasts, lakes, rivers, and springs.<\/p>\n What they hide is that, after the expansions (\u201cwars of conquest\u201d) of the States\u2014whether they are internal (\u201cincorporating more of the population into modernity\u201d), or external with different alibis (like the government of Israel in its war against Palestine)\u2014there\u2019s a common logic: the conquest of a territory for commodities, that is, for money, that is, for capital.<\/p>\n But we understand that those people, in order to become the cashier who manages the payments and receipts that give life to the machine, who form electoral political parties, broad or narrow fronts to fight for access to government, \u201cstrategic\u201d alliances and ruptures, and all of the nuances in which efforts and lives are engaged, hide enormous failures behind small successes. A little law there, an official dialogue here, a news story there, a tweet<\/em> here, a like<\/em> there, and nevertheless, to give an example of the global crime in progress, femicides are on the rise. In the meantime, the left rises and falls, the right rises and falls, the center rises and falls. As the unforgettable Malague\u00f1a<\/em> Marisol, sang, \u201clife is a t\u00f3mbola<\/em>\u201d[iii]<\/a>: everyone (above) wins, everyone (below) loses.<\/p>\n But \u201ccivilization\u201d is just a flimsy alibi for brutal destruction. The poison keeps gushing (not from the Prestige<\/em> this time, or not just from that vessel) and the entire system seems ready to poison the last corner of the planet, because destruction and death are more profitable than stopping the machine.<\/p>\n We are sure that you could add more and more examples: snapshots of an irrational and nevertheless real nightmare.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0So for the past several decades we have focused on looking for alternatives. The construction of rafts, canoes, boats, and even larger craft (the Sixth as an improbable ark) has a well-defined horizon. We will have to land somewhere.<\/p>\n We have read and continue to read. We have studied and we continue to do so. We analyzed then and now. We opened our heart and our gaze, not to current or past ideological trends, but to science, to art, and to our stories as originary peoples. And with those knowledges and tools, we have discovered that there is, in this solar system, a planet that could be habitable: the third planet from the sun that up to now has appeared in the textbooks and scientific publications under the name of \u201cEarth.\u201d For further reference it\u2019s between Venus and Mars: in other words, according to certain cultures, it\u2019s between love and war.<\/p>\n The problem is that that planet is still a heap of debris, real nightmares and tangible horrors. Little is left standing: even the plot that hides the catastrophe is cracking. So, how to put it: the point is not to conquer that world and enjoy the winner\u2019s spoils. It\u2019s more complicated and requires, yes, a global effort: we will have to make the world anew.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0Now, according to the big Hollywood blockbusters, the way out of a global catastrophe (always something external: aliens, meteors, inexplicable pandemics, zombies resembling candidates for public office) is for all the governments of the world to join together (headed by gringos)\u2026 or, worse, for the United States government to be synthesized in an individual [un individuo<\/em>] or una individua<\/em> (because the machine has learned by now that the farce should be inclusive) who has the politically correct racial and gender characteristics but wears on their chest the mark of the Hydra.<\/p>\n Far from those fictions, reality shows us that everything is a business: the system produces the destruction and sells you the tickets to flee from it\u2026 to space. And, of course, in the offices of the big corporations there are brilliant projects for interstellar colonization\u2026 with the private ownership of the means of production included. In other words, the system is moving, intact, to another planet. The \u201call included<\/em>\u201d package refers to those who work, to those who live off of those who work, and to their relation of exploitation.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>But sometimes they don\u2019t only look to space: \u201cgreen\u201d capitalism fights for \u201cprotected\u201d zones on the planet, ecological bubbles where the beast can take shelter while the planet heals its wounds (which should take just a few million years).<\/p>\n When the machine talks about \u201ca new world\u201d or \u201chumanizing the planet,\u201d it\u2019s thinking about territories to conquer, depopulate and destroy to later repopulate and rebuild them with the same logic that now has the whole world hanging over an abyss, always ready to take the next step forward that progress demands.<\/p>\n You might think that it\u2019s not possible that someone could be so stupid as to destroy the house where they live. \u201cThe frog doesn\u2019t drink all of the water in the pond,<\/em>\u201d says a Sioux proverb. But if you attempt to apply rational logic to the functioning of the machine, you will not understand (well, neither will the machine). Moral and ethical assessments are no use. The logic of the beast is profit. Of course, you could ask how it is possible that an irrational, immoral, and stupid machine rules the destinies of a whole planet. Ah, (sigh), that is in its genealogy, in its very essence.<\/p>\n But leaving aside the impossible exercise of bringing rationality to the irrational, you will reach the conclusion that it is necessary to destroy that spawn which, no, is not the devil\u2019s: unfortunately it is human.<\/p>\n And, of course, you study, read, confront, analyze, and discover that there are grand proposals for moving forward: from those who propose a fresh shave and makeup, to those who recommend classes in morality and logic for the beast, passing through new or old systems.<\/p>\n Yes, we understand, life is shit and it is always possible to take refuge in that cynicism that is so overvalued in social media. The late SupMarcos used to say, \u201cThe bad part is not the fact that life is shit, it\u2019s that they make you eat it and still expect you to be grateful.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n But let us suppose otherwise: that you know that in effect life sucks, but your reaction is not to retreat into yourself (or into your \u201cworld;\u201d that depends on your number of \u201cfollowers\u201d on current or future social media platforms). So you decide to embrace, with faith, hope, and charity, one of the options presented to you, and you choose the best, the biggest, the most successful, the most famous, the one that\u2019s winning\u2026 or the one that\u2019s close by.<\/p>\n Big projects from new and old political systems, impossible delays of the clock of history, patriotic nationalisms, futures shared by force with such-and-such candidate taking office and staying there until everything is fixed. The cost of transportation, food, medicine, energy, school, clothes, entertainment, culture has risen? You\u2019re afraid of immigration? You feel uncomfortable around people with dark skin, different beliefs, incomprehensible languages, different heights and complexions? Vote for\u2026<\/p>\n There are even those who share the same objective and differ only on the method, and later they repeat above what they critique below. With disgusting contortions and arguments about political strategies, they support the repeat culprits of crime and stupidity. They demand that the people endure oppression so as to support the \u201ccorrelation of international forces and the rise of the left in the area.\u201d But Nicaragua is not Ortega-Murillo[iv]<\/a> and it won\u2019t take the beast long to figure it out.<\/p>\n In all of those grand offers of solutions in the deadly supermarket of the system, they don\u2019t usually tell you that they involve the brutal imposition of hegemony, and a decree of persecution and death for whatever is not homogenous with the winner.<\/p>\n The governments govern for their followers, never for those who are not. The stars of the social networks feed their followers, even at the cost of sacrificing intelligence and shame. And \u201cpolitical correctness\u201d makes us grin and bear it, which will later come back to bite those who recommend resigning oneself to that reality \u201cso as to not benefit the primary enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0Is Zapatismo one more grand answer to the problems of the world?<\/p>\n No. Zapatismo is a bunch of questions. And the smallest can be the most disturbing: And you? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n In the face of the capitalist catastrophe, does Zapatismo propose an old-new idyllic social system which would repeat the imposition of hegemonies and homogeneities now deemed \u201cgood\u201d?<\/p>\n No. Our thought is small like us: it is the efforts of each person, in their own geography and according to their own calendar and customs, which will perhaps allow the liquidation of the criminal and, simultaneously, the remaking of everything. And everything is everything.<\/p>\n Each person, according to their calendar, their geography and their customs, will have to make their path, and just like us Zapatista peoples, they will stumble and get up, and what they build will have whatever name they want to give it. It will only be different and better than what we have suffered before and what we suffer now if each person recognizes the other and respects them; if they give up on imposing their thought on what is different, and if they finally realize that there are many worlds whose richness is born from and shines in their difference.<\/p>\n Is it possible? We don\u2019t know. But we know that to find out, you have to fight for Life.<\/p>\n -*-<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0So, what is our purpose in this Journey for Life if we do not aspire to dictate paths, routes or destinies? If we do not seek supporters, votes or likes<\/em>? If we are not going to judge, condemn or absolve? If we do not call for fanaticism for a new-old creed? If we do not seek to go down in History and occupy a niche in the moldy pantheon of the political spectrum?<\/p>\n Well, to tell you the truth like the Zapatistas we are: we are not only going to confront our analyses and conclusions with the other who fights and thinks critically.<\/p>\n We are going to thank the other for their existence, for the teachings that their rebellion and their resistance have given us. To deliver the promised flower. To embrace the other and whisper in their ear that they are not alone [sola, soloa, solo<\/em>].
