Sexta parte: UNA MONTA\u00d1A EN ALTA MAR.<\/strong><\/p>\n

COMUNICADO DEL COMIT\u00c9 CLANDESTINO REVOLUCIONARIO IND\u00cdGENA-COMANDANCIA GENERAL DEL EJ\u00c9RCITO ZAPATISTA DE LIBERACI\u00d3N NACIONAL.<\/strong><\/p>\n

M\u00c9XICO.<\/strong><\/p>\n

5 DE OCTUBRE DEL 2020.<\/p>\n

Al Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena-Concejo Ind\u00edgena de Gobierno:
\nA la Sexta Nacional e Internacional:
\nA las Redes de Resistencia y Rebeld\u00eda:
\nA las personas honestas que resisten en todos los rincones del planeta:<\/p>\n

Hermanas, hermanos, hermanoas<\/em>:
\nCompa\u00f1eras, compa\u00f1eros y compa\u00f1eroas<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Los pueblos originarios de ra\u00edz maya y zapatistas les saludamos y les decimos lo que lleg\u00f3 en nuestro pensamiento com\u00fan, de acuerdo a lo que miramos, escuchamos y sentimos.<\/p>\n

Primero.- Miramos y escuchamos un mundo enfermo en su vida social, fragmentado en millones de personas ajenas entre s\u00ed, empe\u00f1adas en su supervivencia individual, pero unidas bajo la opresi\u00f3n de un sistema dispuesto a todo para saciar su sed de ganancias, a\u00fan y cuando es claro que su camino va en contra de la existencia del planeta Tierra.<\/p>\n

La aberraci\u00f3n del sistema y su est\u00fapida defensa del \u201cprogreso\u201d y la \u201cmodernidad\u201d se estrella contra una realidad criminal: los feminicidios<\/em>.\u00a0 El asesinato de mujeres no tiene color ni nacionalidad, es mundial.\u00a0 Si es absurdo e irrazonable que alguien sea perseguido, desaparecido, asesinado por su color de piel, su raza, su cultura, sus creencias; no se puede creer que el hecho de ser mujer equivalga a una sentencia de marginaci\u00f3n y muerte.<\/p>\n

En una escalada previsible (acoso, violencia f\u00edsica, mutilaci\u00f3n y asesinato), con el aval de una impunidad estructural (\u201cella se lo merec\u00eda\u201d, \u201cten\u00eda tatuajes\u201d, \u201c\u00bfqu\u00e9 andaba haciendo en ese sitio a esa hora?\u201d, \u201ccon esa ropa, era de esperar\u201d), los asesinatos de mujeres no tienen ninguna l\u00f3gica criminal que no sea la del sistema.\u00a0 De diferentes estratos sociales, distintas razas, edades que van desde la ni\u00f1ez temprana hasta la vejez y en geograf\u00edas distantes entre s\u00ed, el g\u00e9nero es la \u00fanica constante.\u00a0 Y el sistema es incapaz de explicar por qu\u00e9 esto va de la mano de su \u201cdesarrollo\u201d y \u201cprogreso\u201d.\u00a0 En la indignante estad\u00edstica de las muertes, mientras m\u00e1s \u201cdesarrollada\u201d est\u00e1 una sociedad, mayor es el n\u00famero de v\u00edctimas en esta aut\u00e9ntica guerra de g\u00e9nero.<\/p>\n

Y la \u201ccivilizaci\u00f3n\u201d parece decirnos a los pueblos originarios: \u201cla prueba de tu subdesarrollo est\u00e1 en tu baja tasa de feminicidios<\/em>.\u00a0 Tengan sus megaproyectos<\/em>, sus trenes, sus termoel\u00e9ctricas, sus minas, sus presas, sus centros comerciales, sus tiendas de electrodom\u00e9sticos \u2013con canal de televisi\u00f3n incluido-, y aprendan a consumir.\u00a0 Sean como nosotros.\u00a0 Para saldar la deuda de esta ayuda progresista, no bastan sus tierras, sus aguas, sus culturas, sus dignidades.\u00a0 Deben completar con la vida de las mujeres\u201d.<\/p>\n

Segundo.- Miramos y escuchamos a la naturaleza herida de muerte, y que, en su agon\u00eda, advierte a la humanidad que lo peor est\u00e1 todav\u00eda por venir.\u00a0 Cada cat\u00e1strofe \u201cnatural\u201d anuncia la siguiente y olvida, convenientemente, que es la acci\u00f3n de un sistema humano la que la provoca.<\/p>\n

La muerte y la destrucci\u00f3n no son ya algo lejano, que se limite a fronteras, respete aduanas y convenios internacionales.\u00a0 La destrucci\u00f3n en cualquier rinc\u00f3n del mundo, repercute en todo el planeta.<\/p>\n

Tercero.- Miramos y escuchamos a los poderosos repleg\u00e1ndose y escondi\u00e9ndose en los llamados Estados Nacionales y sus muros.\u00a0 Y, en ese imposible salto hacia atr\u00e1s, reviven nacionalismos fascistas, chauvinismos rid\u00edculos y un palabrer\u00edo ensordecedor.\u00a0 En esto advertimos las guerras por llegar, las que se alimentan de historias falsas, huecas, mentirosas y que traducen nacionalidades y razas en supremac\u00edas que se impondr\u00e1n por la v\u00eda de la muerte y la destrucci\u00f3n.\u00a0 En los distintos pa\u00edses se vive la disputa entre capataces y quienes aspiran a sucederles, escondiendo que el patr\u00f3n, el amo, el mand\u00f3n, es el mismo y no tiene m\u00e1s nacionalidad que la del dinero.\u00a0 Mientras tanto, los organismos internacionales languidecen y se convierten en meros nombres, como piezas de museo\u2026 o ni eso.<\/p>\n

En la oscuridad y confusi\u00f3n que preceden a esas guerras, escuchamos y miramos el ataque, cerco y persecuci\u00f3n de cualquier atisbo de creatividad, inteligencia y racionalidad.\u00a0 Frente al pensamiento cr\u00edtico, los poderosos demandan, exigen e imponen sus fanatismos.\u00a0 La muerte que plantan, cultivan y cosechan no es s\u00f3lo la f\u00edsica; tambi\u00e9n incluye la extinci\u00f3n de la universalidad propia de la humanidad -la inteligencia-, sus avances y logros.\u00a0 Renacen o son creadas nuevas corrientes esot\u00e9ricas, laicas y no, disfrazadas de modas intelectuales o pseudo <\/em>ciencias; y las artes y las ciencias pretenden ser subyugadas a militancias pol\u00edticas.<\/p>\n

Cuarto.- La Pandemia del COVID 19 no s\u00f3lo mostr\u00f3 las vulnerabilidades del ser humano, tambi\u00e9n la codicia y estupidez de los distintos gobiernos nacionales y sus supuestas oposiciones.\u00a0 Medidas del m\u00e1s elemental sentido com\u00fan fueron despreciadas, apostando siempre a que la Pandemia ser\u00eda de corta duraci\u00f3n.\u00a0 Cuando el paso de la enfermedad se fue haciendo cada vez m\u00e1s dilatado, empezaron los n\u00fameros a sustituir tragedias.\u00a0 La muerte se convirti\u00f3 as\u00ed en una cifra que se pierde a diario entre esc\u00e1ndalos y declaraciones.\u00a0 Un comparativo t\u00e9trico entre nacionalismos rid\u00edculos.\u00a0 El porcentaje de bateo y de carreras limpias que determina qu\u00e9 equipo, o Naci\u00f3n, es mejor o peor.<\/p>\n

Como se detalla en uno de los textos previos, en el zapatismo optamos por la prevenci\u00f3n y la aplicaci\u00f3n de medidas sanitarias que, en su momento, fueron consultadas con cient\u00edfic@s que nos orientaron y ofrecieron, sin titubear, su ayuda.\u00a0 Los pueblos zapatistas les estamos agradecidos y as\u00ed quisimos demostrarlo. \u00a0Despu\u00e9s de 6 meses de la implantaci\u00f3n de esas medidas (cubre bocas o su equivalente, distancia entre personas, cierre de contactos personales directos con zonas urbanas, cuarentena de 15 d\u00edas para quien pudo haber estado en contacto con contagiados, lavado frecuente con agua y jab\u00f3n), lamentamos el fallecimiento de 3 compa\u00f1eros que presentaron dos o m\u00e1s s\u00edntomas asociados al Covid 19 y que tuvieron contacto directo con contagiados.<\/p>\n

Otros 8 compa\u00f1eros y una compa\u00f1era, quienes murieron en ese per\u00edodo, presentaron uno de los s\u00edntomas.\u00a0 Como carecemos de la posibilidad de pruebas, asumimos que el total de los 12 compa\u00f1er@s murieron por el llamado Corona virus (cient\u00edficos nos recomendaron asumir que cualquier dificultad respiratoria ser\u00eda Covid 19).\u00a0 Estas 12 ausencias son responsabilidad nuestra.\u00a0 No son culpa de la 4T o de la oposici\u00f3n, de neoliberales o neoconservadores, de chairos o fif\u00eds, de conspiraciones o complots.\u00a0 Pensamos que debimos haber extremado m\u00e1s todav\u00eda las precauciones.<\/p>\n

Actualmente, con la falta de esos 12 compa\u00f1er@s a cuestas, mejoramos en todas las comunidades las medidas de prevenci\u00f3n, ahora con el apoyo de Organizaciones No Gubernamentales y de cient\u00edficos que, a t\u00edtulo individual o como colectivo, nos orientan en el modo de afrontar con m\u00e1s fortaleza un posible rebrote.\u00a0 Decenas de miles de cubre bocas (dise\u00f1ados especialmente para evitar que un probable portador contagie a otras personas, de bajo costo, reusables y adaptados a las circunstancias) se han distribuido en todas las comunidades.\u00a0 Otras decenas de miles m\u00e1s est\u00e1n siendo producidos en los talleres de bordado y costura de insurgent@s y en los poblados.\u00a0 El uso masivo de cubre bocas, las cuarentenas de dos semanas para quienes pudieran estar infectados, la distancia y el lavado continuo de manos y rostro con agua y jab\u00f3n, y evitar en lo posible salir a las ciudades, son medidas recomendadas incluso a herman@s partidistas, para contener la expansi\u00f3n de contagios y permitir el mantenimiento de la vida comunitaria.<\/p>\n

El detalle de lo que fue y es nuestra estrategia podr\u00e1 ser consultado en su momento.\u00a0 Por ahora decimos, con la vida latiendo en nuestros cuerpos, que, seg\u00fan nuestra valoraci\u00f3n (en la que probablemente podemos estar equivocados), el enfrentar la amenaza como comunidad, no como un asunto individual, y dirigir nuestro esfuerzo principal a la prevenci\u00f3n, nos permite decir, como pueblos zapatistas: aqu\u00ed estamos, resistimos, vivimos, luchamos.<\/p>\n

Y ahora, en todo el mundo, el gran capital pretende que se vuelva a las calles para que las personas reasuman su condici\u00f3n de consumidores.\u00a0 Porque son los problemas del Mercado los que le preocupan: el letargo en el consumo de mercanc\u00edas.<\/p>\n

Hay que retomar las calles, s\u00ed, pero para luchar.\u00a0 Porque, como hemos dicho antes, la vida, la lucha por la vida, no es un asunto individual, sino colectivo.\u00a0 Ahora se est\u00e1 viendo que tampoco es asunto de nacionalidades, es mundial.<\/p>\n

Muchas cosas de \u00e9stas miramos y escuchamos.\u00a0 Y mucho las pensamos.\u00a0 Pero no s\u00f3lo\u2026<\/p>\n

Quinto.- Tambi\u00e9n escuchamos y miramos las resistencias y rebeld\u00edas que, no por silenciadas u olvidadas, dejan de ser claves, pistas de una humanidad que se niega a seguir al sistema en su apresurado paso al colapso: el tren mortal del progreso que avanza, soberbio e impecable, hacia el acantilado.\u00a0 Mientras el maquinista olvida que es s\u00f3lo un empleado m\u00e1s y cree, ingenuo, que \u00e9l decide el camino, cuando no hace sino seguir la prisi\u00f3n de los rieles hacia el abismo.<\/p>\n

Resistencias y rebeld\u00edas que, sin olvidar el llanto por las ausencias, se empe\u00f1an en luchar por -quien lo dir\u00eda-, lo m\u00e1s subversivo que hay en esos mundos divididos entre neoliberales y neoconservadores-: la vida.<\/p>\n

Rebeld\u00edas y resistencias que entienden, cada quien con su modo, su tiempo y su geograf\u00eda, que las soluciones no est\u00e1n en la fe en los gobiernos nacionales, que no se gestan protegidas por fronteras ni visten banderas y lenguas distintas.<\/p>\n

Resistencias y rebeld\u00edas que nos ense\u00f1an a nosotros, nosotras, nosotroas<\/em>, zapatistas, que las soluciones pudieran estar abajo, en los s\u00f3tanos y rincones del mundo.\u00a0 No en los palacios gubernamentales.\u00a0 No en las oficinas de las grandes corporaciones.<\/p>\n

Rebeld\u00edas y resistencias que nos muestran que, si los de arriba rompen los puentes y cierran las fronteras, queda navegar r\u00edos y mares para encontrarnos.\u00a0 Que la cura, si es que la hay, es mundial, y tiene el color de la tierra, del trabajo que vive y muere en calles y barrios, en mares y cielos, en los montes y en sus entra\u00f1as.\u00a0 Que, como el ma\u00edz originario, muchos son sus colores, sus tonalidades y sonidos.<\/p>\n

Todo esto, y m\u00e1s, miramos y escuchamos.\u00a0 Y nos miramos y nos escuchamos como lo que somos: un n\u00famero que no cuenta.\u00a0 Porque la vida no importa, no vende, no es noticia, no entra en las estad\u00edsticas, no compite en las encuestas, no tiene valoraci\u00f3n en las redes sociales, no provoca, no representa capital pol\u00edtico, bandera partidaria, esc\u00e1ndalo de moda.\u00a0 \u00bfA qui\u00e9n le importa que un peque\u00f1o, peque\u00f1\u00edsimo, grupo de originarios, de ind\u00edgenas, viva, es decir, luche?<\/p>\n

Porque resulta que vivimos.\u00a0 Que a pesar de paramilitares, pandemias, megaproyectos<\/em>, mentiras, calumnias y olvidos, vivimos.\u00a0 Es decir, luchamos.<\/p>\n

Y en esto pensamos: en que seguimos luchando.\u00a0 Es decir, seguimos viviendo.\u00a0 Y pensamos que durante todos estos a\u00f1os, hemos recibido el abrazo hermano de personas de nuestro pa\u00eds y del mundo.\u00a0 Y pensamos que, si ac\u00e1 la vida resiste y, no sin dificultades, florece, es gracias a esas personas que desafiaron distancias, tr\u00e1mites, fronteras y diferencias culturales y de lengua.\u00a0 Gracias a ellas, ellos, elloas<\/em> \u2013 pero sobre todo ellas-, que retaron y derrotaron calendarios y geograf\u00edas.<\/p>\n

En las monta\u00f1as del sureste mexicano, todos los mundos del mundo encontraron, y encuentran, o\u00eddo en nuestros corazones.\u00a0 Su palabra y acci\u00f3n fue alimento para la resistencia y la rebeld\u00eda, que no son sino continuaci\u00f3n de las de nuestros antecesores.<\/p>\n

Personas con las ciencias y las artes como camino, encontraron el modo para abrazarnos y alentarnos, aunque fuera a la distancia.\u00a0 Periodistas, fif\u00eds y no, que reportearon la miseria y la muerte antes, la dignidad y la vida siempre.\u00a0 Personas de todas las profesiones y oficios que, mucho para nosotros, tal vez poco para ell@s, estuvieron, est\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Y de todo esto pensamos en nuestro coraz\u00f3n colectivo, y lleg\u00f3 en nuestro pensamiento que ya es el tiempo ya de que nosotras, nosotros, nosotroas<\/em>, zapatistas, correspondamos al o\u00eddo, la palabra y la presencia de esos mundos.\u00a0 Los cercanos y los lejanos en geograf\u00eda.<\/p>\n

Sexto.- Y esto hemos decidido:<\/p>\n

Que es tiempo de nuevo para que bailen los corazones, y que no sean ni su m\u00fasica ni sus pasos, los del lamento y la resignaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Que diversas delegaciones zapatistas, hombres, mujeres y otroas<\/em> del color de nuestra tierra, saldremos a recorrer el mundo, caminaremos o navegaremos hasta suelos, mares y cielos remotos, buscando no la diferencia, no la superioridad, no la afrenta, mucho menos el perd\u00f3n y la l\u00e1stima.<\/p>\n

Iremos a encontrar lo que nos hace iguales.<\/p>\n

No s\u00f3lo la humanidad que anima nuestras pieles diferentes, nuestros distintos modos, nuestras lenguas y colores diversos.\u00a0 Tambi\u00e9n, y sobre todo, el sue\u00f1o com\u00fan que, como especie, compartimos desde que, en la \u00c1frica que pareciera lejana, echamos a andar del regazo de la primera mujer: la b\u00fasqueda de la libertad que anim\u00f3 ese primer paso\u2026 y que sigue andando.<\/p>\n

Que el primer destino de este viaje planetario ser\u00e1 el continente europeo.<\/p>\n

Que navegaremos hacia las tierras europeas.\u00a0 Que saldremos y que zarparemos, desde tierras mexicanas, en el mes de abril del a\u00f1o del 2021.<\/p>\n

Que, despu\u00e9s de recorrer varios rincones de la Europa de abajo y a la izquierda, llegaremos a Madrid, la capital espa\u00f1ola, el 13 de agosto del 2021 -500 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de la supuesta conquista de lo que hoy es M\u00e9xico-.\u00a0 Y que, inmediatamente despu\u00e9s, seguiremos el camino.<\/p>\n

Que hablaremos al pueblo espa\u00f1ol.\u00a0 No para amenazar, reprochar, insultar o exigir.\u00a0 No para demandarle que nos pida perd\u00f3n.\u00a0 No para servirles ni para servirnos.<\/p>\n

Iremos a decirle al pueblo de Espa\u00f1a dos cosas sencillas:<\/p>\n

Uno: Que no nos conquistaron.\u00a0 Que seguimos en resistencia y rebeld\u00eda.<\/p>\n

Dos: Que no tienen por qu\u00e9 pedir que les perdonemos nada.\u00a0 Ya basta de jugar con el pasado lejano para justificar, con demagogia e hipocres\u00eda, los cr\u00edmenes actuales y en curso: el asesinato de luchadores sociales, como el hermano Samir Flores Soberanes; los genocidios escondidos detr\u00e1s de megaproyectos<\/em>, concebidos y realizados para contento del poderoso -el mismo que flagela todos los rincones del planeta-; el aliento monetario y de impunidad para los paramilitares; la compra de conciencias y dignidades con 30 monedas.<\/p>\n

Nosotros, nosotras, nosotroas<\/em>, zapatistas NO queremos volver a ese pasado, ni solos, ni mucho menos de la mano de quien quiere sembrar el rencor racial y pretende alimentar su nacionalismo trasnochado con el supuesto esplendor de un imperio, el azteca, que creci\u00f3 a costa de la sangre de sus semejantes, y que nos quiere convencer de que, con la ca\u00edda de ese imperio, los pueblos originarios de estas tierras fuimos derrotados.<\/p>\n

Ni el Estado Espa\u00f1ol ni la Iglesia Cat\u00f3lica tienen que pedirnos perd\u00f3n de nada.\u00a0 No nos haremos eco de los farsantes que se montan sobre nuestra sangre y as\u00ed esconden que tienen las manos manchadas de ella.<\/p>\n

\u00bfDe qu\u00e9 nos va a pedir perd\u00f3n la Espa\u00f1a?\u00a0 \u00bfDe haber parido a Cervantes? \u00bfA Jos\u00e9 Espronceda? \u00bfA Le\u00f3n Felipe? \u00bfA Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca? \u00bfA Manuel V\u00e1zquez Montalb\u00e1n?\u00a0 \u00bfA Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez? \u00a0\u00bfA Pedro Salinas? \u00bfA Antonio Machado?\u00a0 \u00bfA Lope de Vega? \u00bfA B\u00e9cquer?\u00a0 \u00bfA Almudena Grandes?\u00a0 \u00bfA Panchito Varona, Ana Bel\u00e9n, Sabina, Serrat, Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez, Llach, Amparanoia, Miguel R\u00edos, Paco de Luc\u00eda, V\u00edctor Manuel, Aute siempre? \u00bfA Bu\u00f1uel, Almod\u00f3var y Agrado, Saura, Fern\u00e1n G\u00f3mez, Fernando Le\u00f3n, Bardem? \u00bfA Dal\u00ed, Mir\u00f3, Goya, Picasso, el Greco y Vel\u00e1zquez? \u00bfA algo de lo mejor del pensamiento cr\u00edtico mundial, con el sello de la \u201cA\u201d<\/em><\/strong> libertaria? \u00bfA la rep\u00fablica? \u00bfAl exilio? \u00bfAl hermano maya Gonzalo Guerrero?<\/p>\n

\u00bfDe qu\u00e9 nos va a pedir perd\u00f3n la Iglesia Cat\u00f3lica?\u00a0 \u00bfDel paso de Bartolom\u00e9 de las Casas? \u00a0\u00bfDe Don Samuel Ruiz Garc\u00eda? \u00a0\u00bfDe Arturo Lona?\u00a0 \u00bfDe Sergio M\u00e9ndez Arceo? \u00bfDe la hermana Chapis? \u00a0\u00bfDe los pasos de los sacerdotes, hermanas religiosas y seglares que han caminado al lado de los originarios sin dirigirlos ni suplantarlos? \u00a0\u00bfDe quienes arriesgan su libertad y vida por defender los derechos humanos?<\/p>\n

El a\u00f1o del 2021 se cumplir\u00e1n 20 a\u00f1os de la Marcha del Color de la Tierra, la que realizamos, junto con los pueblos hermanos del Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena, para reclamar un lugar en esta Naci\u00f3n que ahora se desmorona.<\/p>\n

20 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s navegaremos y caminaremos para decirle al planeta que, en el mundo que sentimos en nuestro coraz\u00f3n colectivo, hay lugar para todas, todos, todoas<\/em>.\u00a0 Simple y sencillamente porque ese mundo s\u00f3lo es posible si todas, todos, todoas<\/em>, luchamos por levantarlo.<\/p>\n

Las delegaciones zapatistas estar\u00e1n conformadas mayoritariamente por mujeres.\u00a0 No s\u00f3lo porque ellas pretenden as\u00ed devolver el abrazo que recibieron en los encuentros internacionales anteriores.\u00a0 Tambi\u00e9n, y sobre todo, para que los varones zapatistas dejemos claro que somos lo que somos, y no somos lo que no somos, gracias a ellas, por ellas y con ellas.<\/p>\n

Invitamos a que el CNI-CIG forme una delegaci\u00f3n para que nos acompa\u00f1e y sea, as\u00ed, m\u00e1s rica nuestra palabra para lo otro que lejos lucha.\u00a0 Especialmente invitamos a una delegaci\u00f3n de los pueblos que levantan el nombre, la imagen y la sangre del hermano Samir Flores Soberanes, para que su dolor, su rabia, su lucha y resistencia llegue m\u00e1s lejos.<\/p>\n

Sisters, brothers,\u00a0hermanoas<\/em>:
\nCompa\u00f1eras, compa\u00f1eros<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0compa\u00f1eroas<\/em>:<\/p>\n

We Zapatista originary peoples of Mayan roots send you greetings and want to share with you our collective thought about what we have seen, heard, and felt.<\/p>\n

First: We see and hear a socially sick world, fragmented into millions of people estranged from each other, doubled down in their efforts for individual survival but united under the oppression of a system that will do anything to satisfy its thirst for profit, even when its path is in direct contradiction to the existence of planet Earth.<\/p>\n

This abomination of a system and its stupid defense of \u201cprogress\u201d and \u201cmodernity\u201d crashes into the wall of its own criminal reality: femicides. The murder of women has no color or nationality; it is global. If it is absurd and unreasonable for someone to be persecuted, disappeared, or murdered for the color of their skin, their race, their culture or their beliefs, it\u2019s simply unbelievable that the fact of being a woman is equivalent to a death sentence or a life of marginalization.<\/p>\n

The criminal logic of the murder of women is that of the system, escalating in predictable fashion (harassment, physical violence, mutilation, and murder) and backed by structural impunity (\u201cshe deserved it,\u201d \u201cshe had tattoos,\u201d \u201cwhat was she doing out at that hour?\u201d \u201cdressed like that, what did she expect?\u201d). This happens to women across geographies, social classes, races and ages from early girlhood to old age; gender is the one constant. The system is incapable of explaining how this reality goes hand in hand with its \u201cdevelopment\u201d and \u201cprogress.\u201d The outrageous statistics say it all: the more \u201cdeveloped\u201d a society is the higher the number of victims in this veritable war on women.<\/p>\n

\u201cCivilization\u201d seems to be telling the originary peoples: \u201cthe proof of your underdevelopment is evident in your low rate of femicides. Here you go, here are your megaprojects, your trains, your thermoelectric plants, your mines, your dams, your shopping centers, your home electronics stores\u2014television channel included. Learn to consume. Be like us. To pay back the debt of this \u201cprogressive\u201d aid we\u2019re offering, your lands, waters, cultures, and dignity won\u2019t quite be enough\u2014you\u2019re going to have to throw in the lives of women.\u201d<\/p>\n

Second: We have seen and heard a nature which is gravely injured and yet, in its agony it is warning humanity that the worst is yet to come. Each \u201cnatural\u201d disaster announces the next and conveniently forgets the cause: the actions of a human system.<\/p>\n

Death and destruction are no longer off in the distance, limited by borders, customs and international agreements. Destruction in any corner of the world has repercussions on the whole planet.<\/p>\n

Third: We see and hear the powerful retreating and taking cover within the so-called nation-states and their walls. In this impossible leap backward, they are reviving fascist nationalisms, ridiculous chauvinisms and a deafening torrent of meaningless blather. We are sounding the alarm about the coming wars fed by false, empty, deceptive histories that translate nationalities and races into supremacies that will be imposed with death and destruction. Disputes play out in various countries between the current overseers and those who aspire to succeed them, hiding the fact that the real boss, the owner, the ruler, is the same everywhere and has no nationality other than that of money. In the meantime, international organizations languish and become mere names, like museum artifacts\u2026 if that.<\/p>\n

In the darkness and confusion that precede these wars we hear and see that any trace of creativity, intelligence and rationality is being attacked, persecuted and surrounded on all sides. Faced with critical thought, the powerful demand and impose their fanaticisms. They sow, cultivate, and harvest a death that is not only physical; it also includes the extinction of what is our unique human universality: intelligence, with all of its advances and achievements. New esoteric currents are created or reborn, secular and otherwise, disguised as intellectual fashions or pseudo-sciences. The arts and sciences are subordinated to political partisanship.<\/p>\n

Fourth: The Covid-19 pandemic demonstrated not only the vulnerabilities of human beings, but also the greed and stupidity of the national governments and their supposed opposition groups. The most basic, commonsense measures were discarded on the gamble that the pandemic would play out in a short timeframe. As the epidemic\u2019s timeline extended, numbers began to replace tragedies. Death became a statistic, lost amidst the noise of daily scandals and declarations in a dark contest of ridiculous nationalisms, playing with percentages like batting averages and earned runs to decide which team, or nation, is better or worse.<\/p>\n

As we detailed in previous texts, Zapatismo opted for prevention and health safety measures based on the advice of scientists who offered their counsel without hesitation. The Zapatista communities want to show their appreciation for this assistance. Six months after the implementation of these measures (face masks or their equivalent, distance between people, cutting off direct personal contact with urban areas, 15-day quarantine for anyone who has been in contact with someone who is contagious, frequent handwashing with soap and water), we mourn the passing of three\u00a0compa\u00f1eros<\/em>\u00a0who presented two or more symptoms associated with Covid-19 and were directly exposed to infected persons.<\/p>\n

Another eight\u00a0compa\u00f1eros<\/em>\u00a0and one\u00a0compa\u00f1era<\/em>\u00a0who died during this period presented one symptom associated with the illness. As we have no access to tests, we will assume that these 12\u00a0compa\u00f1er@s<\/em>\u00a0died of corona virus (scientists told us to assume that any respiratory problem was Covid-19). These 12 deaths are our responsibility. They are not the fault of the 4T[i]<\/a>\u00a0or the opposition, of neoliberals or neoconservatives, of the sell-outs or the bourgies, or of conspiracies or plots. We think we should have implemented precautionary measures even more rigorously.<\/p>\n

Currently, after the death of those 12\u00a0compa\u00f1er@s,\u00a0<\/em>we are improving our prevention measures with the support of nongovernmental organizations and scientists who, individually or as a collective, are helping us orient our approach in order to be in a stronger position for any potential new outbreak. Tens of thousands of masks (affordable, reusable, specifically designed to avoid transmission by a probable contagious person to others, and adapted to our specific circumstances) have been distributed in all of the communities. Tens of thousands more are being produced in the\u00a0insurgentes\u2019<\/em>\u00a0sewing and embroidery workshops as well as those in the communities. The measures we have recommended to our own communities as well as to our party-affiliated brothers and sisters\u2014the widespread use of masks, a 2-week quarantine for those potentially infected, physical distance, continual hand and face washing with soap and water, and avoidance of the cities to the greatest extent possible\u2014are all oriented toward containing any spread of contagion as well as permitting the maintenance of community life.<\/p>\n

The details of what our strategy was and is will be analyzed at an appropriate time. For now we can say, with life pulsing through our bodies, that in our estimation (which may well be mistaken) it has been our approach of facing the threat as a community, not as an individual issue, and orienting our primary efforts toward prevention that has put us in a position to say now, as Zapatista peoples: here we are, resisting, living and struggling.<\/p>\n

Now, all over the world, big capital intends to get people back on the streets to resume their role as consumers. What concerns capital are the problems of the market, the lethargic rate of commodity consumption.<\/p>\n

We do need to get back on the streets, yes, but to struggle. As we\u2019ve said before, life, and the struggle for life, is not an individual issue, but a collective one. Now we see that it\u2019s not a national issue either, but a global one.<\/p>\n

We have been seeing and hearing a lot of things along these lines, and we\u2019ve given them a lot of thought.\u00a0But not only that\u2026<\/p>\n

Fifth: We have also heard and seen the resistances and rebellions that, even when silenced or forgotten, do not cease to be vital indicators of a humanity that refuses to follow the system\u2019s hurried pace toward collapse. The deadly train of progress advances with impeccable arrogance toward the edge of the cliff, with the conductor believing they are actually driving the train, forgetting they are just another employee of the system following the prison of the rails toward the abyss.<\/p>\n

These are resistances and rebellions that remember those who have been taken from us as they struggle for\u2014who would have thought\u2014the most subversive cause out there in these worlds divided between neoliberals and neoconservatives: life. These resistances and rebellions understand\u2014each according to their own way, time, and geography\u2014that solutions cannot be found through faith in the various national governments, protected by borders and dressed in flags and different languages. These are resistances and rebellions that teach us Zapatistas that the solutions may be found below, in the basements and corners of the world, not in the halls of government or the offices of large corporations. They are resistances and rebellions that show us that if those above destroy bridges and seal borders, then we\u2019ll just have to navigate rivers and oceans to find each other. They show us that the cure, if there is one, is global; it is the color of the earth, the color of the work that lives and dies in the streets and\u00a0barrios<\/em>, oceans and skies, hills and valleys\u2014like the originary maize, it has many colors, hues, and sounds.<\/p>\n

We saw and heard all of this and more. We saw and heard ourselves as what we are: a number that doesn\u2019t count. Because life doesn\u2019t count\u2014it doesn\u2019t sell, it doesn\u2019t make the news, it doesn\u2019t enter into the statistics, it doesn\u2019t compete in the polls, it has no following on social media, it provokes no response, it does not represent political capital, party loyalty, or a trending scandal. Who cares if a small, a tiny group of originary peoples, indigenous peoples, lives, that is, struggles?<\/p>\n

Because it turns out that we do live. Despite paramilitaries, pandemics, mega-projects, lies, slander, and oblivion, we live. And by that we mean, we struggle.<\/p>\n

That is what we are thinking, that we will continue struggling, that is, continue living. We are thinking about the fraternal embrace of people in our own country and around the world that we have received throughout these years. We think that if life here resists and even, against all odds, flourishes, it is thanks to all those people who challenged distances, red tape, borders and differences of language and culture. We want to thank them: the men, women, and others\u2014but above all the women\u2014who confronted and defeated calendars and geographies to be with us.<\/p>\n

In the mountains of Southeastern Mexico, all of the worlds in the world have found, and still find, a listener in our hearts. Their words and actions have fed our resistance and rebellion, which are just a continuation of the struggles of our predecessors.<\/p>\n

People who walk the path of art and science found a way to embrace and encourage us, even from a distance. There were journalists, both bourgie and not, who reported the death and misery we suffered before and the dignity of life always. There have been people of all professions and trades who, through what were perhaps small gestures for them that meant a great deal to us, have been and continue to be at our sides.<\/p>\n

These are the thoughts in our collective heart, and we also think that now is the time in which we Zapatistas [nosotras, nosotros<\/em>,\u00a0nosotroas]\u00a0<\/em>reciprocate the listening ear, word, and presence of those worlds, for those who are geographically near and far.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sixth: We have decided that:<\/p>\n

It is time for our hearts to dance again, and for their sounds and rhythm to not be those of mourning and resignation. Thus, various Zapatista delegations, men, women, and others, the color of our earth, will go out into the world, walking or setting sail to remote lands, oceans, and skies, not to seek out difference, superiority, or offense, much less pity or apology, but to find what makes us equal.<\/p>\n

It is not just our humanity that unites our different skin, our different ways of life, our different languages and colors. It is also, and above all, the common dream we have shared as a species as of the moment, in a seemingly distant Africa, from the lap of the very first woman, when we set out on the search for freedom that guided our first steps and which continues its path today.<\/p>\n

Our first destiny on this planetary journey will be the European continent.<\/p>\n

We will leave Mexican lands and set sail for Europe in April of 2021. After journeying through various corners of Europe below and to the left, we plan to arrive in Madrid, the Spanish capital, on August 13, 2021, 500 years after the supposed conquest of what is today Mexico. We will then immediately continue our journey.<\/p>\n

We want to speak to the Spanish people. Not to threaten them, scold them, insult them, or make demands of them, and not to demand they ask our forgiveness. We are not there to serve them nor demand they serve us. We want to tell the people of Spain two simple things:<\/p>\n

One: You didn\u2019t conquer us. We continue to resist and rebel.<\/p>\n

Two: There\u2019s no reason for you to ask our forgiveness for anything. Enough of this toying around with the distant past to justify, with demagoguery and hypocrisy, the current crimes in process: the murder of community organizers, like our brother Samir Flores Soberanes; the hidden genocides behind the megaprojects, conceived and carried out to please the most powerful player\u2014capitalism\u2014which wreaks punishment on all corners of the world; the pay-outs to and impunity for the paramilitaries; the buying off of peoples\u2019 consciences and dignity with 30 pieces of silver.[ii]<\/a><\/p>\n

We Zapatistas do NOT want to return to that past, not on our own, much less accompanied by someone trying to seed racial resentment and feed his outmoded nationalism with the supposed splendor of the Aztec Empire which built itself from the blood of its neighbors, and convince us in turn that with the fall of that empire, the originary peoples of these lands were defeated.<\/p>\n

Neither the Spanish state nor the Catholic Church have to ask our forgiveness for anything. We will not echo those frauds who seek to legitimize themselves with our blood while they hide the fact that their hands are stained with it.<\/p>\n

What is Spain going to ask our forgiveness for? For having birthed Cervantes? Or Jos\u00e9 Espronceda? Le\u00f3n Felipe? Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca? Manuel V\u00e1zquez Montalb\u00e1n?\u00a0 Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez?\u00a0 Pedro Salinas? Antonio Machado?\u00a0Lope de Vega? B\u00e9cquer?\u00a0Almudena Grandes?\u00a0Panchito Varona, Ana Bel\u00e9n, Sabina, Serrat, Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez, Llach, Amparanoia, Miguel R\u00edos, Paco de Luc\u00eda, V\u00edctor Manuel, Aute siempre? For Sister Chapis? For the lives of priests and religious and lay sisters who have walked beside the originary peoples without trying to lead or supplant them? For those who risk their freedom and their lives to defend human rights?<\/p>\n

The year 2021 marks 20 years since the March of the Color of the Earth, the march we carried out alongside the peoples of the National Indigenous Congress to reclaim our place in this Nation that is now in total collapse.<\/p>\n

Now, 20 years later we will set sail and journey once again to tell the planet that in the world that we hold in our collective heart, there is room for everyone [todas, todos, todoas<\/em>]. That is true for the simple reason that that world will only be possible if all of us struggle to build it.<\/p>\n

The Zapatista delegations will be constituted principally by women, not just because they want to reciprocate the embrace they received in earlier international gatherings, but also and above all to make clear to the Zapatista men that we are what we are and we aren\u2019t what we aren\u2019t thanks to them, for them, and with them.<\/p>\n

We invite the CNI-CIG to form a delegation to accompany us and thus further enrich our word for the other who struggles in distant lands. We make a special invitation to the communities who hold up the name, image, and blood of our brother Samir Flores Soberanes, so that their pain, rage, struggle, and resistance travels far.<\/p>\n

We invite those who hold the arts and sciences as their vocation, endeavor, and horizon to accompany our journey from a distance and help us spread the idea that in the sciences and the arts lie not only the possibility of the survival of humanity, but that of the birth of a new world.<\/p>\n
