\u00a0 Les escribe el Subcomandante Insurgente Mois\u00e9s a nombre de las mujeres, hombres, ni\u00f1os y ancianos zapatistas. La palabra que les mandamos es colectiva y me toca a m\u00ed, como vocero del EZLN, escribirla.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Por lo mismo, desde las monta\u00f1as del sureste mexicano llega hoy a las dignas tierras de Emiliano Zapata y sus sucesores -como lo fue y es Samir Flores Soberanes, nuestro hermano y compa\u00f1ero de lucha en defensa de la vida-, el abrazo que no es s\u00f3lo m\u00edo sino de todos los pueblos zapatistas de tzotziles, choles, tojolabes, zoques, mames, mestizos y tzeltales.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Rec\u00edbanlo, hermanas y hermanos, porque es un abrazo que les damos nosotras, nosotros, zapatistas del EZLN, porque les respetamos y admiramos.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 No hemos podido estar presentes junto a ustedes, que es lo que hubi\u00e9ramos querido. La raz\u00f3n es muy sencilla y tiene la bandera del mal gobierno. Porque en nuestras monta\u00f1as y valles ha aumentado la presencia militar, polic\u00edaca, paramilitar, y de esp\u00edas, orejas e informantes. Han reaparecido los sobrevuelos de aviones y helic\u00f3pteros militares, as\u00ed como de veh\u00edculos artillados, como en los tiempos de Carlos Salinas de Gortari; de Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Le\u00f3n, tutor pol\u00edtico del actual titular del poder Ejecutivo; de Vicente Fox Quesada luego de la traici\u00f3n de los Acuerdos de San Andr\u00e9s; del psic\u00f3pata Felipe Calder\u00f3n Hinojosa; y del ladr\u00f3n de corbata y copete Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto. Lo mismo, pero ahora con m\u00e1s frecuencia y mayor agresividad.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Y los patrullajes y sobrevuelos no siguen las rutas del narcotr\u00e1fico, ni las de las agobiadas caravanas de las hermanas y hermanos migrantes que huyen de una guerra que se niega a decir su nombre\u2026 para entrar a otra que se esconde detr\u00e1s de un ejecutivo federal parlanch\u00edn y pendenciero. No, esa amenaza de muerte recorre por aire y tierra las comunidades ind\u00edgenas que han decidido mantenerse en resistencia y rebeld\u00eda para defender la tierra, porque en ella est\u00e1 la vida.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Ahora, adem\u00e1s, miembros del Ej\u00e9rcito Federal y Fuerza A\u00e9rea se adentran en las monta\u00f1as y aparecen en las comunidades diciendo que viene la guerra y que s\u00f3lo est\u00e1n esperando \u00f3rdenes de \u201cmero arriba\u201d. Y algunos se hacen pasar por lo que no son ni nunca ser\u00e1n, seg\u00fan esto para conocer los supuestos \u201cplanes militares\u201d del EZLN. Tal vez ignorando que el EZLN dice lo que hace y hace lo que dice\u2026 o tal vez porque el plan es montar una provocaci\u00f3n y luego culpar al EZLN. El mismo m\u00e9todo de Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Le\u00f3n, y de su lacayo Esteban Moctezuma Barrag\u00e1n, hoy encargado de emboscar al magisterio democr\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 En realidad, en todo eso, el mal gobierno actual es como sus antecesores. Pero cambia ahora la justificaci\u00f3n: hoy la persecuci\u00f3n, acoso y ataque a nuestras comunidades es \u201cpor el bien de todos\u201d y se hace bajo la bandera de la supuesta \u201cIV Transformaci\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Pero no es de esto que les quer\u00edamos hablar. Despu\u00e9s de todo cualquier denuncia es luego desacreditada porque, seg\u00fan el Poder Ejecutivo Federal, la realidad est\u00e1 en la categor\u00eda de \u201cradical de izquierda conservadora\u201d, que quiere decir que cualquiera que no tenga paga y critique al supremo gobierno, ni siquiera alcanza a ser \u201cfif\u00ed\u201d; ser\u00e1 eso o la ocurrencia que se d\u00e9 en las ma\u00f1aneras y que luego sea festinada por sus huestes en las redes sociales que son \u201cmodernas\u201d s\u00f3lo porque su fanatismo es digital, pero tienen los mismos argumentos de quienes han aplaudido y aplauden los excesos de las tiran\u00edas que en el mundo han sido, y a quienes se podr\u00edan repetir las palabras de Emiliano Zapata Salazar: \u201cLa ignorancia y el oscurantismo en todos los tiempos no han producido m\u00e1s que reba\u00f1os de esclavos para la tiran\u00eda.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n
\u00a0 De lo que en estas tierras chiapanecas pasa, pues es m\u00e1s de lo mismo que hemos padecido desde hace ya m\u00e1s de 25 a\u00f1os. Y repetimos lo que antes se\u00f1alamos: all\u00e1 arriba son lo mismo\u2026 y son los mismos. Y la realidad les quita el maquillaje con el que quieren simular un cambio.<\/p>\n
Hermanas y hermanos:<\/p>\n
Compa\u00f1eros y compa\u00f1eras:<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Lo que queremos decirles, se\u00f1alarles, es lo grande de su resistencia.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 No s\u00f3lo por el s\u00edmbolo de levantarla cuando los de arriba celebran una traici\u00f3n: la que asesin\u00f3 a un individuo de nombre Emiliano Zapata Salazar; y que fracas\u00f3 en detener una causa, la que hoy pervive en muchas siglas en todo el territorio de esto que todav\u00eda llamamos M\u00e9xico: el zapatismo.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Su causa de ustedes es inspiradora para cualquier persona honesta en el mundo, porque su lucha es por la vida. No es una apuesta por dinero, puestos, regalos. Es para las generaciones que no vendr\u00e1n si triunfa la soberbia del Mand\u00f3n y son destruidas las comunidades.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Por eso su lucha no s\u00f3lo merece ser saludada y apoyada, tambi\u00e9n debiera ser replicada en todos los rincones del planeta donde, bajo la bandera de los supuestos \u201corden y progreso\u201d, se destruye la naturaleza y a quienes la habitan.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Hay veces que las causas se concretan en una persona, hombre, mujer u\u00a0otroa<\/b><\/i>. Y entonces esa causa tiene nombre, apellido, lugar de nacimiento, familia, comunidad, historia. Como en Emiliano Zapata Salazar, tambi\u00e9n es el caso del hermano y compa\u00f1ero Samir Flores Soberanes, a quien quisieron comprar, a quien quisieron rendir, a quien quisieron convencer de dejar sus ideales. Y \u00e9l no se dej\u00f3, por eso lo asesinaron. Porque no se vendi\u00f3, porque no se rindi\u00f3 y porque no claudic\u00f3.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Quienes se sintieron aliviados por su asesinato y luego realizaron una supuesta \u201cconsulta\u201d para burlarse as\u00ed de la tragedia, pensaron que ah\u00ed terminaba todo; que la resistencia en contra de un megaproyecto, criminal como todos los megaproyectos, se apagar\u00eda junto con las l\u00e1grimas que arranc\u00f3 la ausencia del hermano y compa\u00f1ero.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Se equivocaron, como se equivocaron Carranza y Guajardo cuando creyeron que Zapata acababa en Chinameca.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Como se equivoca el actual ejecutivo federal cuando, alardeando su ignorancia sobre la historia y cultura del pa\u00eds que dice \u201cmandar\u201d (su libro de cabecera no es \u201cQui\u00e9n gobierna\u201d, sino \u201cQuien manda\u201d), pretende amistar a Francisco I. Madero con Emiliano Zapata Salazar. Porque, as\u00ed como Madero quiso comprar a Zapata, el mal gobierno quiso comprar a Samir, y a los pueblos que resisten, con apoyos, proyectos y dem\u00e1s mentiras.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Los pueblos y Samir respondieron con su empe\u00f1o de resistencia, algo que enorgullecer\u00eda al Emiliano Zapata que se\u00f1alaba que no se le compraba con oro y que aqu\u00ed (en las tierras de Morelos) todav\u00eda hab\u00eda y hay hombres -nosotros agregamos \u201cy mujeres y\u00a0otroas<\/b><\/i>\u201d- con verg\u00fcenza.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 La ignorancia y la soberbia que le dan identidad al actual jefe del mal gobierno, tampoco son nuevas. Como no es nuevo que tenga una corte de aduladores. Un grupo de sinverg\u00fcenzas que acomodan la historia al contentillo del tirano y lo presentan como la culminaci\u00f3n de los tiempos. Y le aplauden y repiten, con una lambisconer\u00eda sin recato, cuanta tonter\u00eda sale de su cabeza. \u00c9l decreta que se acab\u00f3 el neoliberalismo, y su corte acomoda cifras, hechos, proyectos para ocultarlos detr\u00e1s del escenario de la autodenominada \u201cCuarta Transformaci\u00f3n\u201d, que no es sino la continuaci\u00f3n y profundizaci\u00f3n de la etapa m\u00e1s brutal y sanguinaria del sistema capitalista.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Pero, adem\u00e1s, el grupo de aduladores que el tirano convoca, se completa con lacayos de todo tipo y condici\u00f3n, quienes se desviven, y matan, para cumplir los deseos manifiestos o supuestos del capataz en turno.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Por eso el titular del ejecutivo no necesita ordenar que se asesine, desaparezca, denigre, calumnie, encarcele, despida, destierre a quien no le rinde adoraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Basta que en el templete o en los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n o en las redes sociales, ejerza lo que \u00e9l llama \u201cderecho de r\u00e9plica\u201d, para que los lacayos vean la forma de cumplir los deseos de su amo y se\u00f1or.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Pero todos los tiranos temen cuando se levanta una causa que, como la de ustedes -que es la nuestra-, es justa y humana.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Piensan que asesinando a l\u00edderes y a rostros visibles, las causas mueren junto con ellos.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 No sabemos quienes asesinaron al compa\u00f1ero Samir. Sabemos quien lo se\u00f1al\u00f3. Quien, con voz chillona e hist\u00e9rica, lo marc\u00f3 para que luego sicarios, ansiosos por agradar al jefe de las fuerzas armadas federales, cumplieran la sentencia dada en el templete convertido en tribunal.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 No hubo \u201cderecho de r\u00e9plica\u201d para Samir Flores Soberanes, ni lo hay para los pueblos que resisten contra el proyecto de muerte llamado \u201cProyecto Integral Morelos\u201d, megaproyecto que s\u00f3lo significar\u00e1 ganancias para grandes capitalistas cuyas sedes est\u00e1n en Italia y en la Espa\u00f1a a la que se le demanda pedir perd\u00f3n por la conquista que inici\u00f3 hace 500 a\u00f1os y que ahora el mal gobierno contin\u00faa.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Todo esto ya lo saben ustedes, hermanas, hermanos, compa\u00f1eros, compa\u00f1eras. Pero lo repetimos por el coraje y la rabia que nos dan el asesinato de Samir y la soberbia de quien all\u00e1 arriba cree que manda y ni siquiera gobierna.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Nos da rabia y coraje que para los de abajo s\u00f3lo se ofrezca el desprecio de las limosnas disfrazadas de programas asistenciales o las amenazas por no doblegarse; y que para los de arriba, que son quienes luego traicionar\u00e1n a quien hoy acarician, haya sonrisas, brindis y declaraciones tranquilizadoras.<\/p>\n
Compa\u00f1eros y compa\u00f1eras:<\/p>\n
Hermanas y hermanos:<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Sabemos tambi\u00e9n que \u00e9ste, como los anteriores malos gobiernos, quiere secuestrar la imagen de Emiliano Zapata Salazar para que, con su muerte, muera tambi\u00e9n la defensa de la tierra, que es como nosotros, los pueblos originarios, llamamos a la vida.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Y sabemos lo m\u00e1s importante, lo que en verdad cuenta: los pueblos originarios seguiremos en la rebeld\u00eda y la resistencia.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 No importa que nos llamen \u201cconservadores\u201d, o, como hace 100 a\u00f1os a los zapatistas del Ej\u00e9rcito Libertador del Sur, \u201cbandidos\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Como sus anteriores, el mal gobierno actual y sus lacayos \u201cmodernos\u201d pueden decirnos lo que les venga en gana.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Nuestra palabra y silencio son m\u00e1s grandes que sus grititos hist\u00e9ricos.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 La lucha zapatista pervivir\u00e1, los pueblos originarios pervivir\u00e1n.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 En las ciudades y los campos de todo el planeta se levanta tambi\u00e9n la lucha de grupos, colectivos y organizaciones de mujeres, colonos, artistas, j\u00f3venes, cient\u00edficos, trabajadores, empleados, maestros, estudiantes,\u00a0otroas<\/b><\/i>.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 No importa su tama\u00f1o, sino su decisi\u00f3n. Con todos ellos, ellas,\u00a0elloas<\/b><\/i>, con respeto y solidaridad, se habr\u00e1 de levantar una red mundial de rebeld\u00eda y resistencia contra la guerra que, si el capitalismo triunfa, significar\u00e1 la destrucci\u00f3n del planeta.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Vendr\u00e1n y se ir\u00e1n malos gobiernos, pero el color de la tierra persistir\u00e1 y con \u00e9l todos los colores de quienes en el mundo se niegan a la resignaci\u00f3n y el cinismo, quienes no olvidan y no perdonan, quienes llevan la cuenta de agravios, encierros, desapariciones, muertes, olvidos.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 En ese pensamiento y ese coraz\u00f3n colectivos, renacer\u00e1 el mundo que hoy agoniza.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Los tiranos de todos los colores se derrumbar\u00e1n junto al sistema al que sirven.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Y para el mundo habr\u00e1 al fin vida, como debe ser la vida, es decir, libre.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Mientras llega ese momento, no dejaremos de traer a cada uno de nuestros d\u00edas, la vida de lucha de Emiliano Zapata Salazar y de Samir Flores Soberanes.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 Y en nuestra lucha cotidiana, se har\u00e1 verdad el grito que hoy es nuestra bandera: Zapata y Samir viven, y la lucha sigue por\u2026<\/p>\n

It is my job, as EZLN spokesperson, to communicate our collective word.<\/p>\n We also send you our collective embrace from the mountains of the Mexican southeast to the dignified lands of Emiliano Zapata and his successors in struggle\u2014like Samir Flores Soberanes, our brother and compa\u00f1ero<\/em> in the struggle to defend life. That embrace comes from all of the Tzotzil, Chol, Tojolabal, Zoque, Mame, Mestizo, and Tzeltal Zapatista peoples. Brothers and sisters, accept this embrace from all of the Zapatistas of the EZLN as a symbol of our respect and admiration.<\/p>\n We aren\u2019t able to be present there with you as we would have liked, for the simple reason that the bad government has increased its military, police, and paramilitary presence in our lands, as well as its use of spies and informants. Flyovers by military planes and helicopters and armored vehicle patrols have once again reappeared here, just as during the presidencies of Carlos Salinas de Gortari [1988-1994], of Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Le\u00f3n [1994-2000] (political mentor of the current president), of Vicente Fox Quesada [2000-2006] after the betrayal of the San Andr\u00e9s Accords, of Felipe Calder\u00f3n Hinojosa (that psychopath), and of that pompadoured thief in a suit and tie named Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto, but now with greater frequency and aggression.<\/p>\n Those patrols and flyovers are not monitoring the narco-trafficking routes, nor the routes of those exhausted caravans of our migrant brothers and sisters who are fleeing one unrecognized war to enter another, the latter hidden behind that yammering bully who occupies the [US] presidency. No, this death threat passes by air and by land through the indigenous communities who have decided to maintain their resistance and rebellion in defense of the land, and thus in defense of life.<\/p>\n In addition, army and air force personnel have been coming to the mountains and showing up in the communities saying that war is imminent and that they are only awaiting orders from \u201cthe top.\u201d Some of them pretend to be something they are not and never will be in order to try to gather information on the supposed \u201cmilitary plans\u201d of the EZLN. Maybe that\u2019s because they don\u2019t know that the EZLN always says what it does and does what it says, or perhaps because their real intent is to stage a provocation and then try to frame the EZLN for it. It\u2019s the same strategy used by Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Le\u00f3n and his lackey Esteban Moctezuma Barrag\u00e1n,[i]<\/a> the latter today in charge of ambushing the democratic teachers\u2019 union.<\/p>\n The reality is that this bad government is just like the previous ones, only it uses a different justification: today the persecution, harassment, and attacks on our communities are \u201cfor the good of all\u201d[ii]<\/a> and are carried out under the flag of the \u201cFourth Transformation.\u201d[iii]<\/a><\/p>\n But that\u2019s not really what we wanted to write you about today. After all, any denunciation is quickly discredited by the president\u2019s insistence that it comes from \u201cradicals of the conservative left,\u201d which just means that anyone who hasn\u2019t been paid off and dares to criticize the supreme government doesn\u2019t even qualify as \u201cbourgie.\u201d[iv]<\/a> He\u2019ll either say that or whatever random idea he came up with that morning, later to be celebrated by his followers on social networks (supposedly \u201cmodern\u201d only because their fanaticism is digital) who have the same arguments as all those who applaud the excesses of tyrants around the world and who exemplify the words of Emiliano Zapata Salazar: \u201cIgnorance and obscurantism have never produced anything other than flocks of slaves for the tyranny.\u201d[v]<\/a><\/p>\n What is currently happening in these Chiapan lands is just more of the same, the same things we have been subjected to over the past 25 years, and we repeat here what we have said before: those who occupy those positions above are all the same, and today we can say this literally\u2014they are the exact same people as always. Reality washes away the makeup they try to use to simulate change.<\/p>\n Sisters and brothers:<\/p>\n Compa\u00f1eros<\/em> and compa\u00f1eras<\/em>:<\/p>\n We see that your resistance is great. We say this not only because you have resisted precisely as those above celebrate a great betrayal\u2014that which assassinated Emiliano Zapata Salazar yet failed to detain the cause which lives and persists throughout centuries and throughout the territory that we still call Mexico: Zapatismo. We also say this because your resistance, your struggle for life, is inspiring for any honest person in the world. It\u2019s not a play for money, cushy jobs, or gifts. It is for the generations to come\u2014if indeed the arrogance of the Ruler does not triumph and destroy all of our communities.<\/p>\n Thus your struggle not only merits support and admiration, but should be replicated all over the planet where nature and those who inhabit it are destroyed under the flag of \u201corder and progress.\u201d There are times when a cause is materialized in a person\u2014a man, woman, or other<\/em>\u2014and thus that cause takes on a name, birthplace, family, community, and history. That was the case for Emiliano Zapata Salazar, and it is the case for Samir Flores Soberanes, who they tried to buy off, to force to surrender, and to convince to abandon his ideals. He didn\u2019t, so they killed him. He did not give in, give up, or sell out.<\/p>\n Those who were relieved by his murder and who carried out a supposed \u201creferendum\u201d in mockery of that tragedy thought that everything ended there, that the resistance against that megaproject\u2014criminal like all megaprojects\u2014would be washed away by the tears of those who will miss their brother and compa\u00f1ero<\/em>.<\/p>\n They were wrong, just as Carranza[vi]<\/a> and Guajardo[vii]<\/a> were wrong when they believed Zapata met his end in Chinameca[viii]<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the same way, the current president is wrong when, in an ostentatious display of ignorance of the history and culture of the country it claims to \u201crule\u201d (the well-worn book on his bedside table is not Who Governs<\/em>, but rather Who Rules<\/em>), it paints Francisco I. Madero[ix]<\/a> and Emiliano Zapata Salazar as friends. Just as Madero wanted to buy Zapata off, the bad government wanted to buy off Samir and the communities in resistance using aid programs and \u201cdevelopment\u201d projects and other lies.<\/p>\n Those communities and Samir responded by continuing the work of resistance, something that would have made Emiliano Zapata proud. He used to say that he could not be bought off with gold, and that here in Morelos there are still men\u2014we would add \u201cand women and others<\/em>\u201d\u2014who have integrity.<\/p>\n The ignorance and arrogance that characterize the current head of the bad government aren\u2019t new, either. Nor is his court of admirers, a bunch of shameless crooks who rewrite history to suite the tyrant\u2019s moods and present him as the culmination of history. They applaud him and repeat, in a display of unrestrained sycophantism, whatever idiocy comes out of his mouth. He issues a decree that neoliberalism has ended and his coterie quickly rearranges facts, statistics, and development projects to hide them behind the scenes of the so-called \u201cFourth Transformation\u201d\u2014really just the continuation and intensification of the most brutal and bloody epoch of the capitalist system.<\/p>\n What\u2019s more, the gaggle of admirers that the tyrant has convoked is filled with lackeys of all sorts and states of indecency who live, and kill, to meet the real or assumed desires of the acting overseer.<\/p>\n For this reason the president does not need to issue orders to kill, disappear, denigrate, insult, imprison, fire or evict anyone who does not pay him their respects.<\/p>\n All he has to do is announce on stage, in the mainstream media or on social networks that he will exercise what he calls his \u201cright to respond,\u201d[x]<\/a> and his lackeys see to it that the desires of their lord and master are carried out.<\/p>\n But all tyrants become fearful when a just and humane cause such as yours (which is also ours) is raised by the people. They think that by killing the leadership and most prominent individuals they will also snuff out the cause itself.<\/p>\n We do not know who murdered our compa\u00f1ero<\/em> Samir, but we do know who singled him out, who, shrieking hysterically, put a target on his back so that mercenaries anxious to please the head of the armed forces would carry out the sentence dictated on that stage-cum-tribunal.[xi]<\/a><\/p>\n There was no \u201cright to respond\u201d for Samir Flores Soberanes, nor will there be such a right for the peoples resisting the project of death that is the \u201cIntegral Project for Morelos,\u201d a megaproject whose only purpose is profits for big capitalists based in Italy and Spain, the latter of which has been asked to seek forgiveness for the conquest it began 500 years ago and which the bad government [in Mexico] continues today.[xii]<\/a><\/p>\n You know all of this already, sisters, brothers, compa\u00f1eros, compa\u00f1eras<\/em>. But we repeat it here because of the rage we feel over Samir\u2019s murder and the arrogance of those above who think they \u201crule\u201d when they do not even govern.<\/p>\n We are enraged by the fact that those below are offered only disdain in the form of hand-outs disguised as aid programs and threats if they do not bow down, while those above, who will tomorrow betray those whom today they fawn over, receive smiles, champagne toasts and soothing declarations.<\/p>\n Compa\u00f1eros<\/em> and compa\u00f1eras<\/em>:<\/p>\n Sisters and brothers:<\/p>\n We know that this bad government, like previous ones, wants to co-opt the image of Emiliano Zapata Salazar in the hopes that the defense of the earth, which for the originary peoples is the name of life itself, will die along with him.<\/p>\n But we also know what is most important, what really counts: we the originary peoples will continue to resist and rebel.<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t matter if they call us \u201cconservatives,\u201d[xiii]<\/a> or, as they called the Zapatistas of the Liberation Army of the South 100 years ago, \u201cbandits.\u201d<\/p>\n Like those before it, the current bad government and its \u201cmodern\u201d lackeys can call us whatever they want. Our word and our silence are much greater than their hysterical shrieking.<\/p>\n The Zapatista struggle will live on, and the originary peoples will live on.<\/p>\n In cities and countrysides across the planet there are groups, collectives, and organizations of women, neighbors, artists, young people, scientists, workers, employees, teachers, students and others<\/em> [otroas]<\/em> who are rising up in struggle.<\/p>\n What matters is not their size, but their resolve. Together with them, and with respect and solidarity, it is necessary to build a global network of rebellion and resistance against the war which, if capitalism triumphs, will mean the destruction of the planet.<\/p>\n Bad governments will come and go, but the color of the Earth will live on and with it the colors of those who refuse cynicism and resignation, who do not forget or forgive, and who are keeping count of the insults, injuries, imprisonments, disappearances, deaths, and sentences to oblivion.<\/p>\n In that collective thought and collective heart, the world that today agonizes in death throes will be reborn.<\/p>\n Tyrants of all stripes will be brought down together with the system they serve.<\/p>\n And there will finally be life on Earth; life as it should be\u2014that is to say, free.<\/p>\n Until that time arrives, we will tirelessly carry out every day the struggle embodied in the lives of Emiliano Zapata Salazar and Samir Flores Soberanes.<\/p>\n And in that daily struggle our rallying cry will be made real: Zapata and Samir live! Montezuma Barrag\u00e1n now serves as L\u00f3pez Obrador\u2019s Secretary of Education.<\/p>\n [ii]<\/a> \u201cPor el bien de todos<\/em>,\u201d or \u201cFor the good of all\u201d was one of Lopez Obrador\u2019s campaign slogans.<\/p>\n [iii]<\/a> AMLO has deemed his own governing project the \u201cFourth Transformation,\u201d supposedly on par with historic events such as Mexican Independence (1810), a period of reform in the mid-19th century, and the Mexican Revolution (1910).<\/p>\n [iv]<\/a> On April 10, 2019, the 100th anniversary of Zapata\u2019s death, AMLO visited Cuautla, Morelos, site of the proposed thermoelectric plant which faces widespread opposition, and, while pushing the idea of a popular referendum (consulta<\/em>) on the power plant, repeated a now common trope by shouting at protestors: \u201cListen, radicals on the Left, as far as I\u2019m concerned you\u2019re nothing but a bunch of conservatives!\u201d (www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wE7mTL2cF4A).
