Resistencia y Rebeld\u00eda o como se llamen:<br \/>\nA la Sexta Nacional e Internacional:<\/p>\n<p>Considerando que:<\/p>\n<p>Es madrugada.<\/p>\n<p>Considerando que:<\/p>\n<p>Hace fr\u00edo.<\/p>\n<p>Considerando que:<\/p>\n<p>En esa bisagra del tiempo, donde no es d\u00eda ni noche, ni dentro ni fuera, ni sombra ni luz, usted se descubre sin sue\u00f1o, en esa inc\u00f3moda vigilia que le hace vulnerable a los recuerdos, la memoria punzante de lo hecho y lo deshecho, la larga cuenta de las omisiones, la breve de lo realizado.<\/p>\n<p>Considerando que<\/p>\n<p>Usted se pregunta, no sin raz\u00f3n, a qu\u00e9 viene todo eso\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Porque usted est\u00e1 todav\u00eda tratando de asimilar ese \u201c<em>Todo es imposible la v\u00edspera<\/em>\u201d, que escucha-lee en ese desconcertante nano-mini-micro metraje del autodenominado \u201ccine para leer\u201d.\u00a0 Un filme (?) 30 a\u00f1os enlatado (literal: en una lata de sardinas) y presentado en aquel cine imposible, signado por un igualmente desconcertante escarabajo con \u00ednfulas de andante caballero, y cuyo t\u00edtulo (de la pel\u00edcula, se entiende): \u201cLa 69 ley de la dial\u00e9ctica\u201d tampoco es muy racional.\u00a0 Una pel\u00edcula sin imagen ni sonido, y compuesta por una sola frase.\u00a0 Dejando todo el peso a la imaginaci\u00f3n de quien atiende a su \u00bfproyecci\u00f3n?<\/p>\n<p>En fin, todo parece absurdo aqu\u00ed\u2026 \u00bfaqu\u00ed?, \u00bfd\u00f3nde diablos est\u00e1?\u00a0 Pero tampoco tiene mucho tiempo para ubicarse, porque le apuran:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Vamos pues<\/em>\u201d, le dice la ni\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>Usted piensa que ya puede esperar cualquier cosa\u2026 pero al fin salen de la absurda sala de ese cine imposible, siempre de la mano de la ni\u00f1a.\u00a0 Aunque ahora le rodea a usted una banda de infantes donde, es evidente, son mayor\u00eda las f\u00e9minas, con sus naguas y blusas de colores, sus prensa-pelo in\u00fatiles en esos cabellos desordenados.<\/p>\n<p>Empiezan a caminar remontando el declive natural de la monta\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>Piedras, algo de lodo, la niebla, el camino, siempre el camino.<\/p>\n<p>Usted ahora intuye que, desde el pie del muro apenas manchado por carteles y grafitis desgastados, ha recorrido una especie de espiral.\u00a0 Como si el sendero trazado le llevara hacia dentro de un caracol\u2026 o hacia afuera.\u00a0 Cada paso una estaci\u00f3n.\u00a0 Lo mismo la falsa felicidad de la feliz familia feliz, que la simulaci\u00f3n de la Gran Final, que la provocaci\u00f3n de la pantalla como un puente imposible.<\/p>\n<p>Y el muro omnipresente, indestructible, incuestionable, insisti\u00e9ndole en que est\u00e1 prohibido pensar.\u00a0 Que todo est\u00e1 hecho ya.\u00a0 Que s\u00f3lo le queda acomodarse como sea y en donde pueda.\u00a0 Que la eternidad es eso, eterna.\u00a0 El presente cambia, pero su l\u00f3gica fr\u00edvola y superficial permanece.\u00a0 Es imposible otra cosa.\u00a0 Es m\u00e1s, es imposible que usted piense, imagine, sue\u00f1e, que no es imposible otra cosa.<\/p>\n<p>Caminan.\u00a0 Usted hace memoria:<\/p>\n<p>La ni\u00f1a pregunt\u00f3 si lloran las pel\u00edculas que nadie mira, que no es sino otra forma de preguntar por los dolores y las rabias ignorados \u2013el muro imponiendo la ceguera y la sordera hacia lo otro-.\u00a0 \u00bfA qui\u00e9n se le ocurre preguntar eso?\u00a0 S\u00ed, eso y otras cosas.\u00a0 Por ejemplo, cuestionar la existencia del muro.\u00a0 El muro.\u00a0 Ahora usted lo mira con atenci\u00f3n.\u00a0 Tan alto como alcanza su vista o su larga vistas.\u00a0\u00a0 Tan extenso que ni vale la pena medirlo, -\u00bfpara qu\u00e9?-.\u00a0 Su s\u00f3lida construcci\u00f3n.\u00a0 Su apariencia impecable\u2026 bueno, no tanto\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Tomando un poco de distancia, el muro se llena tanto de grafitis como de grietas. Las m\u00e1s de las veces sin que se puedan diferenciar unas de otros.\u00a0 Como si la solidez del muro dependiera de la vista corta.\u00a0 Porque para poder leer esa gran pinta que le hiere la rugosa fachada, hay que tomar suficiente distancia.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u201cAunque el camino ser\u00e1 largo\u2026\u00a0 aqu\u00ed seguiremos\u201d<\/em>, le dice la ni\u00f1a que dice la pinta en el muro que no dice nada, mudo, resignado a que los sucesivos administradores manden cuadrillas de trabajadores contra ese grafiti para borrarlo, taparlo, silenciarlo, exterminarlo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>No la hab\u00eda visto<\/em>\u201d, se disculpa usted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>De por s\u00ed, todav\u00eda<\/em>\u201d, le responde la ni\u00f1a, y agrega: \u201c<em>pero aqu\u00ed seguiremos<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00bfQu\u00e9 tanta distancia se necesita para mirar eso?<\/em>\u00a0 Usted cree que s\u00f3lo lo pens\u00f3, pero la ni\u00f1a le responde:\u00a0 \u201c<em>Lejos<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00bfPero c\u00f3mo cu\u00e1nto?<\/em>, insiste usted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Como m\u00e1s de 500 a\u00f1os<\/em>\u201d, le dice la ni\u00f1a sonriendo con malicia.<\/p>\n<p>Y como no queriendo, un rap acompasa los pasos de esa pandilla de infantes que le acompa\u00f1a:<\/p>\n<p><em>Llegamos de tan lejos<br \/>\n<\/em><em>En todos sentidos, tan lejos<br \/>\n<\/em><em>En silencio llevamos una fuerza<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Tan lejos, cada uno tiene la carga de su camino.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Cantando la luz en las ruinas de un mundo quemado. (*)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ese sonido, \u00bfviene de dentro o de fuera?\u00a0 \u00bfEs \u00e9sa la banda sonora de \u00e9ste su viaje anacr\u00f3nico, absurdo, irremediable?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>-*-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ahora usted, un poco por verg\u00fcenza y un mucho por curiosidad, pone m\u00e1s atenci\u00f3n a esos grafitis.<\/p>\n<p>Uno all\u00e1, se ve que de factura reciente, se\u00f1ala, con letras compactas y apresuradas:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Lecciones elementales de Econom\u00eda Pol\u00edtica:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Uno.- El capital no sabe leer, no atiende a las redes sociales, la prensa, las encuestas, los votos, las consultas, los videos, los programas de gobierno, las buenas o malas intenciones, las lecciones de moral, las leyes, la raz\u00f3n.\u00a0 El capital s\u00f3lo sabe sumar, restar, multiplicar, dividir, calcular porcentajes, tasas de inter\u00e9s, probabilidades.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dos.- El capital s\u00f3lo atiende a la ganancia, la mayor y la m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida.\u00a0 Como los depredadores, el capital tiene buen olfato para la sangre y la destrucci\u00f3n, porque significan paga, mucha paga.\u00a0 La guerra es un negocio, el mejor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tres.- El capital tiene sus propios jueces, polic\u00edas y ejecutores.\u00a0 En el mundo del muro esos inquisidores se llaman \u201cmercados\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Cuatro.- Los mercados son los sabuesos del gran cazador: el capital.\u00a0 En el mundo del muro, el capital es dios y los mercados sus ap\u00f3stoles.\u00a0 Sus feligreses son las polic\u00edas, los ej\u00e9rcitos, las c\u00e1rceles, las fosas comunes, el limbo de las desapariciones forzadas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Cinco.- Al capital no se le doma, educa, reforma, somete.\u00a0 Se le obedece\u2026 o se le destruye.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Seis.- Ergo, lo que este mundo necesita son herejes, brujas escarlatas, magos, hechiceras.\u00a0 Con la pesada carga de su pecado original, la rebeld\u00eda, el muro ser\u00e1 destruido.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Siete.- A\u00fan as\u00ed, seguir\u00e1 pendiente lo que sigue: si, como sucesor, se levanta otro muro; o si, en su lugar, se abrir\u00e1n las puertas y ventanas, los puentes que el mundo necesita y merece.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Siguen los grafitis, las grietas, y ese continuo sube y baja por lomas, valles, quebradas.\u00a0 El caracol retray\u00e9ndose hacia su centro.\u00a0 Poblados, peque\u00f1os, m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os, unas cuantas casas asom\u00e1ndose a la carretera.<\/p>\n<p>Un letrero advierte: \u201c<em>Est\u00e1 usted en territorio zapatista.\u00a0 Aqu\u00ed el pueblo manda y el gobierno obedece<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Y usted se pregunta:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es lo que mantiene viva a esta gente si ha tenido, y tiene, todo en contra?\u00a0 \u00bfNo son acaso los eternos perdedores, los que yacen mientras otros levantan sus gobiernos, sus museos, sus estatuas, sus \u201ctriunfos hist\u00f3ricos\u201d?\u00a0 \u00bfNo son los damnificados de todas las cat\u00e1strofes, la carne de ca\u00f1\u00f3n de todas las revoluciones que se hacen para \u201csalvarlos\u201d de s\u00ed mismos? \u00bfLos extranjeros en la tierra que les vio nacer?\u00a0 \u00bfEl objeto de burlas, desprecios, limosnas, caridades, programas de gobierno, proyectos \u201csustentables\u201d, directrices, proclamas y programas revolucionarios?\u00a0 \u00bfNo son los analfabetos irremediables a los que hay que educar, dirigir, ordenar, mandar, sojuzgar, doblegar, dominar, <em>c-i-v-i-l-i-z-a-r<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 no obedecen cuando se les dice lo que deben decir y c\u00f3mo decirlo; lo que deben mirar y c\u00f3mo; lo que deben pensar y no; lo que deben ser y dejar de ser?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY por qu\u00e9 no bajan la mirada frente a todas esas amenazas \u2013las que les prometen aniquilaci\u00f3n o salvaci\u00f3n, es lo mismo-?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY por qu\u00e9 sonr\u00eden?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY por qu\u00e9 a usted le ponen, de gu\u00eda, a una banda de infantes ind\u00edgenas?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY a d\u00f3nde le llevan ahora, despu\u00e9s de este viaje tortuoso a lo largo del muro? \u00bfLe llevan a lo que hizo posible esas risas infantiles, es decir, esas vidas?\u00a0 Unas letras responden: \u201c<em>Y miren lo que son las cosas, para que nos vieran, nos tapamos el rostro; para que nos nombraran, nos negamos el nombre; apostamos el presente para tener futuro; y para vivir\u2026 morimos<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es lo que construyen aqu\u00ed?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfD\u00f3nde est\u00e1 la desaz\u00f3n, la angustia, la derrota, la amargura de saberse inferiores?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY por qu\u00e9 esa obsesi\u00f3n por la tierra, por defenderla, por cuidarla, por guardarla?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY por qu\u00e9 los bailes, la bulla, la m\u00fasica, los colores, el ir y venir de miradas, ese empe\u00f1o en las ciencias y las artes, esos modos y ni modos?<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfNo se dan cuenta de que perdieron?<\/p>\n<p>Un momento, \u00bfperdieron?\u00a0 \u00bfQui\u00e9nes?\u00a0 No esta gente, es claro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Aqu\u00ed seguiremos<\/em>\u201d, ratifica el grafiti que la realidad ara\u00f1a en el muro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-*-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Y aqu\u00ed est\u00e1 usted, con un pie en una realidad y el otro en otra, -la que se levanta en las monta\u00f1as del sureste mexicano con la inquietante bandera de la libertad-.<\/p>\n<p>La que construyen estas personas tan peque\u00f1as, tan normales, tan gente, tan como cualquier otro, otra, <strong><em>otroa<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tan sin precio y tan invaluables.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComunidades zapatistas\u201d se llaman, se autodenominan, se saben.<\/p>\n<p>Y entonces, sin darse apenas cuenta, est\u00e1 usted frente a un letrero que parece viejo, o nuevo, o sin tiempo:<\/p>\n<h3><strong><em>Bienvenid@s a La Realidad.<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>-*-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Considerando lo anteriormente expuesto (es decir, durante los \u00faltimos 25 a\u00f1os), se invita a la Sexta Nacional e Internacional, al Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena, al Concejo Ind\u00edgena de Gobierno, y a quienes apoyaron, apoyan y apoyar\u00e1n al CNI y al CIG, a:<\/p>\n<p>Primero.- Un Encuentro de Redes de Resistencia y Rebeld\u00eda, de Apoyo al CIG, o como se llamen.\u00a0 A realizarse en el Centro \u201cHuellas de Memoria. <em>Subcomandante Insurgente Pedro<\/em> <em>cumpli\u00f3<\/em>\u201d, (en whatever you call them:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"tm20\">To the National and International Sixth:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">Given that:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">It\u2019s the middle of the night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">And that:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">It\u2019s cold out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">And that: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">At this crux in time\u2014when it class=\"tm20\">You\u2019re still trying to grasp the meaning of that phrase, \u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Everything is impossible right up until it isn\u2019t<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">,\u201d which you heard-read in that disconcerting nano-mini-micro short film at the so-called \u201ccinema for reading.\u201d That film (?) was kept tightly lidded for the last 30 years (literally, it was in a sardine can) and was presented at the impossible cinema by an equally disconcerting beetle dressed as a knight-errant. Its title (of the film, that is), \u201cThe 69<\/span><sup><span class=\"tm20\">th<\/span><\/sup><span class=\"tm20\"> Law of the Dialectic,\u201d is hardly rational either. It\u2019s a film consisting of a single phrase, without images or sounds, leaving everything else to the imagination of whoever attends its\u2026showing? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">In any case, everything is absurd here. Here? Where the hell are you? You don\u2019t really have time to ponder that because somebody rushes you along:<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Come on<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">,\u201d the little girl says to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">You have no idea what to expect\u2014it could be anything at this point\u2014but you\u2019re guided out of the absurd movie theater, once again by the little girl leading you by the hand, though now you\u2019re surrounded by a whole band of kids, mostly little girls in their wool skirts and colorful blouses, barrettes fruitlessly pinned into unruly hair. You begin to walk with them up the natural slope of the mountain, through the mud, rocks, and fog, picking out the path, always the path. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">At the foot of the wall, where there is just a smattering of old, worn posters and graffiti, you intuit a kind of spiral, like a pathway leading toward the inside of a <\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">caracol<a href=\"http:\/\/enlacezapatista.ezln.org.mx\/2018\/11\/21\/invitation-to-the-25th-anniversary-celebration-of-the-zapatista-uprising-and-to-a-gathering-of-networks\/#footnote1\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">\u2026or toward the outside. Every step is like a station: the fake happiness of the fake happy family; the Grand Finale as simulation;<a href=\"http:\/\/enlacezapatista.ezln.org.mx\/2018\/11\/21\/invitation-to-the-25th-anniversary-celebration-of-the-zapatista-uprising-and-to-a-gathering-of-networks\/#footnote2\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> the screen\u2019s provocation as an impossible bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">The omnipresent, indestructible, unquestionable wall continues to insist that thinking is not allowed, that everything is as it is and that\u2019s it\u2014the only thing left to do is settle in wherever and however you can. Eternity is just that, after all: eternal. The present moment may change, but its frivolous and superficial logic is permanent and anything else is impossible. What\u2019s more, it\u2019s impossible that you would think, imagine, or dream that anything else is possible. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">You walk. You remember.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">The little girl had asked if the films that nobody watches cry, which is just another way of asking about all the pain and rage in the world that is ignored and unknown\u2014because of the blindness and deafness imposed by the wall. I mean, who asks a question like that? She does, that and many other questions, including questioning the very existence of the wall. The wall\u2026you look at it more closely now: it\u2019s taller than you can see, taller even than what you can see through your binoculars, so enormous it\u2019s not even worth measuring. Measure for what? Its construction is solid, its appearance impeccable\u2014well, not quite. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">If you step back a bit you can see that the wall is full of both cracks and graffiti, so many that you can\u2019t really tell them apart. Only up close, from a shortsighted perspective, does the wall seem solid. From up close you can\u2019t even read the gigantic graffiti scrawled across the rough surface:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Though the path will be long, we\u2019ll continue on<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">\u201d: the little girl reads the graffiti on the wall that doesn\u2019t say anything itself, mutely resigned to the successive administrations who send work crew after work crew to erase or cover over that writing, to silence and exterminate it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">I hadn\u2019t even seen it<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">,\u201d you apologize. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Understandably<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">,\u201d the little girl responds, and adds, \u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">but here we still are, keeping on<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><em><span class=\"tm22\">How far from the wall do you have to be to be able to see it<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">? You think you just thought this to yourself, but the little girl responds, \u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">F<\/span><span class=\"tm20\">ar<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">But how far<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">?\u201d you insist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Like 500 years away<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">,\u201d she answers, smiling maliciously. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">As if by coincidence, the words of a rap begin to keep pace with the footsteps of the kid gang who walk with you:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><em><span class=\"tm22\">\u201cWe came from so far, far in every possible sense<br \/>\nIn silence, we came with strength<br \/>\nFrom afar, each of us carrying the weight of our walk<br \/>\nSinging<br \/>\nlight amidst the ruins of a burned-out world<a href=\"http:\/\/enlacezapatista.ezln.org.mx\/2018\/11\/21\/invitation-to-the-25th-anniversary-celebration-of-the-zapatista-uprising-and-to-a-gathering-of-networks\/#footnote3\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><a id=\"footnote3back\"><\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">Is that sound coming from inside or outside? Is that the soundtrack of your anachronic, absurd, and irremediable trip?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"tm21\">-*-<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">Partly out of shame and partly out of curiosity, you now examine the graffiti more closely. A recent tag, with small, hurried letters, reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><em><span class=\"tm22\">\u201cBasic Lessons of Political Economy:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>One: Capital does not know how to read. It does not pay attention to social networks, media, polls, votes, referendum, videos, government programs, good or bad intentions, moral lessons, laws, or reason. Capital only knows how to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages, interest rates, and probabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Two: Capital only cares about profit, the highest and the fastest profit possible. Like all predators, capital has a good nose for blood and destruction, because these imply money, lots of money. War is a business, the best business.<\/p>\n<p>Three: Capital has its own judges, police, and executioners. In the world of the wall, these inquisitors are called \u201cmarkets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Four: The markets are the bloodhounds of the great hunter: capital. In the world of the wall, capital is god and the markets are his disciples. The police, armies, prisons, mass graves and forced disappearances are his faithful followers.<\/p>\n<p>Five: One cannot tame, educate, reform, or subordinate capital. One can only obey it\u2026or destroy it.<\/p>\n<p>Six: Ergo, what this world needs are heretics, scarlet witches, magicians, and sorcerers. With the heavy load<a id=\"aGoBack\"><\/a> of their original sin, rebellion, the wall will be destroyed.<span class=\"tm20\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"tm20\"><br \/>\nSeven: Even so, what happens next has yet to be seen: if what comes after capital will put up another wall, or instead open doors and windows, the bridges this world needs and deserves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">The graffiti and cracks continue, up and down over hills, valleys, and ravines. The <\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">caracol<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\"> retracts into its own shell, with a few very small communities and scattered houses peeking out over the highway.<\/span> <span class=\"tm20\">A sign alerts you: \u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">You are now in Zapatista territory. Here the people rule and the government obeys<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">You ask yourself: What is it that keeps these people alive, against all odds? Are they not the eternal losers, always on their knees while others build governments, museums, status, and \u201chistorical triumphs\u201d? Are they not the victims of every possible catastrophe, the cannon fodder of every revolution staged to save them from themselves? Are they not strangers in their own land, the object of mockery, disdain, handouts, charity, government programs, \u201csustainable\u201d projects, and revolutionary programs, proclamations, and directives? Are they not the irremediably illiterate who must be educated, led, ordered, ruled over, subjugated, subordinated, dominated, and c-i-v-i-l-i-z-e-d?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\"><span class=\"tm20\">Why don\u2019t they obey when they are told what to say and how to say it, where to look and how, what to think and not think, what to be and cease to be? Why don\u2019t they lower their gaze in the face of all these threats, both those that promise annihilation and those that promise salvation (which is really the same thing)? Why are they smiling?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\"><span class=\"tm20\">And why did they assign you a whole kid gang as guide while you\u2019re here? In fact, where are they taking you now, after that torturous walk along the wall? Are they taking you to what made possible that childish laughter, that is, those children\u2019s lives? The response is a few words: \u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Look how things are: we had to cover our faces in order to be seen, cease to have names in order to be named, gamble the present in order to have a future, and in order to live\u2026we had to die<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\"><span class=\"tm20\">What is being built here? Where is their unease, anxiety, their sense of defeat? Where is their bitterness at their own inferiority? Why their obsession over land, their insistence on defending it, taking care of it, keeping it? And why so much dance, music, color, noise, so many visits and exchanges, such effort and determination in the sciences and arts? Why do they do things their way and shrug at the rest? Don\u2019t they realize they lost?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">Wait a second. Lost? Who? Clearly not these people. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201c<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">Here we still are, continuing on<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">,\u201d reality scrawls across the wall. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"tm21\">-*-<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">And here you are, with one foot in one reality and the other in another: that which is being built in the mountains of southeastern Mexico under the disquieting flag of freedom by people so small, so normal, so common, so like any other [<\/span><em><span class=\"tm22\">otro, otra, otroa<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tm20\">], so priceless and so without price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">\u201cZapatista communities\u201d they are called and they call themselves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal tm19\"><span class=\"tm20\">Without realizing it you find yourself in front of another sign.
