justify;\">Julio del 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Compa\u00f1eras, compa\u00f1eros y <strong><em>compa\u00f1eroas<\/em><\/strong> de la Sexta en M\u00e9xico y el mundo:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Artistas de los cinco continentes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Magisterio en resistencia:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reciban todos, todas, <strong><em>todoas<\/em><\/strong>, el saludo que les mandamos junto con las comunidades ind\u00edgenas zapatistas.\u00a0 Les escribimos esta carta para platicarles de lo que miramos y escuchamos en este pasado mes de junio y para comunicarles una decisi\u00f3n que hemos tomado como zapatistas que somos.\u00a0 Va pues:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Las lecciones de arriba.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En el mes de junio, en unas cuantas semanas, se ha impartido una verdadera c\u00e1tedra que nos ense\u00f1a y educa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Se ha desnudado, una vez m\u00e1s, el car\u00e1cter del Estado en M\u00e9xico: en lo que se refiere a la llamada \u201cLey 3 de 3\u201d, en cuanto los capitalistas les chasquearon los dedos, todos los poderes institucionales corrieron a corregir lo que no era del gusto de su amo.\u00a0 No conformes con saber que mandan, los grandes se\u00f1ores del dinero mostraron, a quien quisiera verlo, qui\u00e9n decide realmente.\u00a0 Desde el \u00c1ngel de la Independencia (para as\u00ed burlarse de lo que representa), con trajes y corbatas de marcas exclusivas, un pu\u00f1ado de amos se manifestaron para as\u00ed dar una clase de pol\u00edtica moderna.\u00a0 \u201c<em>Nosotros mandamos<\/em>\u201d, dijeron sin palabras, \u201c<em>no nos gusta esa ley.\u00a0 No necesitamos poner muertos, ni hacer marchas, ni recibir golpes, humillaciones, c\u00e1rcel.\u00a0 Tampoco necesitamos manifestarnos.\u00a0 Si ahora nos mostramos es s\u00f3lo para recordarles a todos los pol\u00edticos cu\u00e1l es su lugar, a los que est\u00e1n en el gobierno y a los que aspiran a gobernar.\u00a0 Y a la prole, bueno, s\u00f3lo para que se d\u00e9 cuenta de cu\u00e1nto desprecio nos provoca<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0 Despu\u00e9s pas\u00f3 lo que pas\u00f3: la legalidad del sistema (quienes la fabrican, quienes la ejecutan y quienes la sancionan), mostr\u00f3 su verdadera raz\u00f3n de ser: en unas cuantas horas, las \u201cinstituciones\u201d gubernamentales se atropellaron para pedir disculpas y buscar c\u00f3mo remediar el enojo de los grandes se\u00f1ores.\u00a0 Como capataces prestos a servir a los amos, los gobiernos se postraron y maniobraron para que la ley se adecuara a los designios del sistema.\u00a0 \u201c<em>Ni siquiera la le\u00edmos<\/em>\u201d, tartamudeaban los legisladores mientras hac\u00edan reverencias y se disculpaban servilmente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pero en cuanto el magisterio en resistencia, y las comunidades, movimientos, organizaciones y personas que lo apoyan, demandaron la abrogaci\u00f3n de la reforma educativa (en realidad es s\u00f3lo la plataforma para la precampa\u00f1a presidencial del aspirante a madrina judicial, Aurelio Nu\u00f1o), el gobierno y sus amos se dijeron dispuestos a todo (es decir a usar la fuerza) para defender \u201cla legalidad\u201d.\u00a0 Con aire m\u00e1s hist\u00e9rico que hist\u00f3rico, remarcaron que la ley no se negocia.\u00a0 Y lo declararon apenas unas horas despu\u00e9s de que se humillaron frente al poder del dinero\u2026 para negociar la modificaci\u00f3n de una ley.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No les import\u00f3 insistir en la arbitraria imposici\u00f3n de una reforma educativa que ni siquiera han le\u00eddo.\u00a0 Bastar\u00eda que le dieran una lectura atenta para que se dieran cuenta que de educativa no tiene nada.\u00a0 No deja de ser pat\u00e9tico que la clase pol\u00edtica, y medios que la acompa\u00f1an, digan que defienden la institucionalidad, las leyes y la justicia, mientras se exhiben imp\u00fadicamente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En junio la lecci\u00f3n de arriba ha sido clara y c\u00ednica: en M\u00e9xico el capital manda, y el gobierno obedece.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Las lecciones de abajo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por su lado, las maestras y los maestros agrupados en torno a la Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educaci\u00f3n (CNTE), as\u00ed como las familias y comunidades que los apoyan, han dado tambi\u00e9n clases en las calles, caminos y carreteras del M\u00e9xico de abajo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En unas cuantas semanas han desmontado toda la escenograf\u00eda construida por la clase pol\u00edtica, despu\u00e9s de varios a\u00f1os y mucha paga, para disfrazar, bajo el nombre de \u201cPacto por M\u00e9xico\u201d, la nueva guerra de conquista que se sintetiza en las llamadas \u201creformas estructurales\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El digno movimiento de resistencia magisterial ha puesto tambi\u00e9n en evidencia la profunda descomposici\u00f3n de las instituciones gubernamentales federales, estatales y municipales.\u00a0 La corrupci\u00f3n, la ineficacia y la torpeza gubernamentales ya no se pueden ocultar detr\u00e1s del maquillaje que, serviles, proporcionan los medios de paga y las redes sociales manipuladas con la misma impericia con la que gobiernan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para tratar de manipular el \u201cmal humor\u201d social y dirigirlo contra el magisterio democr\u00e1tico, gobiernos y grandes medios de comunicaci\u00f3n de paga, montaron una impresionante (e in\u00fatil) campa\u00f1a de calumnias y mentiras: los pobres no tienen gasolina, cerveza, trago, dulces y golosinas, pan de caja, y el olote molido que se vende como \u201charina de ma\u00edz\u201d.\u00a0 Y la culpa es de los maestros.\u00a0 Pero no porque se inconformen, sino porque no son grandes propietarios.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Al menos ac\u00e1 en Chiapas, el supuesto desabasto de gasolina no fue sino una descarada especulaci\u00f3n de los empresarios del ramo, que sab\u00edan que el precio sub\u00eda el viernes y desde el martes empezaron a correr el rumor, en redes sociales, de la escasez.\u00a0 En las gasolineras, curiosamente, s\u00f3lo hab\u00eda el combustible llamado <em>diesel<\/em>, que es el que no subir\u00eda de precio.\u00a0 Los despachadores dijeron que s\u00ed hab\u00eda, pero \u201c<em>el patr\u00f3n dijo que racion\u00e1ramos y luego que pusi\u00e9ramos los letreros de que no hay.\u00a0 Y tambi\u00e9n le metieron mano a las bombas, as\u00ed que los litros no fueron litros sino menos.\u00a0 Pero eso ya es de antes, aunque no haya bloqueos<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Del mismo modo, la escasez de alimentos y productos perecederos se dio s\u00f3lo en los grandes supermercados.\u00a0 En los mercados populares continuaban ofreci\u00e9ndose frutas, legumbres, ma\u00edz, frijol, arroz, carne, huevos, sin que se hubieran aumentado los precios.\u00a0 Cierto, empezaron a escasear productos como bebidas gaseosas embotelladas, cigarros, cervezas y licores, as\u00ed como lo que se conoce com\u00fanmente como \u201ccomida chatarra\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los \u201cintereses de terceros\u201d a los que se refiere el gobierno cuando dice que son afectados, son nada m\u00e1s y nada menos que los intereses de las grandes empresas del capital comercial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mientras gobernantes, medios y redes sociales que los acompa\u00f1an, se desga\u00f1itaban diciendo que el movimiento magisterial era s\u00f3lo en los estados m\u00e1s pobres, cuyo retraso social es culpa, claro, de la CNTE, ocurri\u00f3 que, en Monterrey, Nuevo Le\u00f3n, miles de maestras y maestros tomaron, no una sino varias veces, las calles del otrora cubil del gran capital nacional, y demandaron la abrogaci\u00f3n de la reforma educativa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cuando el magisterio en resistencia decidi\u00f3 abrir los bloqueos a autos particulares, transporte p\u00fablico, pipas y transporte local, pero no a los transportes de las grandes empresas, los capataces rugieron furiosos, amenazaron y exigieron que s\u00ed dejaran pasar las mercanc\u00edas que alimentan al gran capital, aunque no transitara \u201cla plebe\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Y en los medios de paga: gran difusi\u00f3n a los aviones de la SEDENA, usados como camiones repartidores de Maseca (no de ma\u00edz), con los que iniciaba el vuelo la precampa\u00f1a de Jos\u00e9 Antonio Meade para relevar a Aurelio Nu\u00f1o como precandidato presidencial; mientras se ocultaba que otros aviones H\u00e9rcules transportaban tanquetas antimotines y tropas de la polic\u00eda federal a Chiapas y Oaxaca\u2026 y Guerrero\u2026 y Michoac\u00e1n\u2026 y Tabasco\u2026 \u00bfy Nuevo Le\u00f3n?\u00a0 \u00a1Ah, la rebelde geograf\u00eda de la rebeld\u00eda!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No.\u00a0 A los de arriba no les interesan ni la educaci\u00f3n ni los ni\u00f1os.\u00a0 Vaya, ni siquiera les interesa la supuesta reforma educativa.\u00a0 Ni el triste polic\u00eda que despacha en la Secretar\u00eda de Educaci\u00f3n P\u00fablica, ni ningun@ de l@s legislador@s que votaron la reforma, la han le\u00eddo.\u00a0 Y cuando los maestros les plantean que tal o cual art\u00edculo es lesivo, voltean nerviosos a ver a sus asesores y guaruras, no s\u00f3lo porque no saben qu\u00e9 dicen esos art\u00edculos, tambi\u00e9n porque no saben qu\u00e9 quiere decir la palabra \u201clesivo\u201d.\u00a0 Lo \u00fanico que les importa es colarse en la sucesi\u00f3n, es ver a qui\u00e9n le toca la candidatura presidencial en el PRI o en el resto de partidos pol\u00edticos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pero, pese a amenazas, golpes, prisi\u00f3n y a la indignante matanza de Nochixtl\u00e1n, Oaxaca, los maestros y maestras resisten.\u00a0 Pero ya no solos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cuando se esperar\u00eda que, despu\u00e9s de una amenaza, disminuyera la presencia de personas en los bloqueos y plantones, lo que ocurre es que\u2026 llegan m\u00e1s maestros\u2026 \u00a1y vecinos de barrios, colonias, poblados y comunidades!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As\u00ed, el magisterio en rebeld\u00eda y el pueblo que lo apoya, concluyeron su c\u00e1tedra p\u00fablica, gratuita y laica del mes de junio y nos dieron una lecci\u00f3n m\u00e1s completa: en M\u00e9xico el capital manda, y el gobierno obedece\u2026 pero el pueblo se rebela.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0 Lo m\u00e1s importante.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cuando, como zapatistas que somos, decimos que respetamos un movimiento, quiere decir eso: que lo respetamos.\u00a0 Quiere decir que no nos inmiscuimos en sus modos y tiempos, en su estructura organizativa, en sus decisiones, sus estrategias y t\u00e1cticas, sus alianzas, sus decisiones.\u00a0 Todo eso que corresponde valorar y decidir a quienes lo forman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Voten o no voten, se al\u00eden o no con partidos pol\u00edticos, dialoguen o no dialoguen, negocien o no negocien, acuerden o no acuerden, sean creyentes o ateos, flacos o gordos, altos o chaparros, bonitos o feos, mestizos o ind\u00edgenas.\u00a0 Los apoyamos porque su lucha es justa.\u00a0 Y nuestro apoyo, aunque bastante limitado, es incondicional.\u00a0 Es decir, no esperamos nada a cambio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Desafortunadamente, por nuestra esencia como EZLN, la mayor\u00eda de las veces nuestro apoyo no puede ir m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la palabra, y no son pocas las que debe ser en silencio.\u00a0 En el caso del magisterio en resistencia, bastantes acusaciones y presiones tienen ya, como para que ahora les carguen el estar siendo \u201cmanejados\u201d o \u201cinfiltrados\u201d por organizaciones pol\u00edtico-militares.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As\u00ed que s\u00e9panlo bien en todo el espectro pol\u00edtico: todo lo que ha logrado el magisterio en resistencia, ha sido, y es, con su propio empe\u00f1o, con su decisi\u00f3n y con su perseverancia.\u00a0 Son ellas y ellos, los maestros de grupo, quienes han explicado su lucha, quienes han hablado en asambleas comunitarias, en barrios y colonias, quienes han convencido.\u00a0 A diferencia de otras movilizaciones, ahora el magisterio volte\u00f3 a mirar hacia abajo y hacia ac\u00e1 dirigi\u00f3 su mirada, su o\u00eddo y su palabra.\u00a0 Ha sido su resistencia la que ha convocado en su apoyo a voces tan distantes unas de otras.\u00a0 Bueno, al menos as\u00ed ha sido, y es, en Chiapas.\u00a0 En lugar de calumniar o dar su nueva versi\u00f3n de la \u201cteor\u00eda del complot\u201d, los servicios de inteligencia (\u00a1j\u00e1!) gubernamental, as\u00ed como medios que de ah\u00ed se nutren, deber\u00edan aprender de las lecciones de las maestras y maestros.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nuestras limitaciones econ\u00f3micas (producto de nuestra rebelde resistencia, no de los bloqueos magisteriales), nos imped\u00edan, hasta ahora, mandarles a maestras y maestros, y a las comunidades que los apoyan, algo sustancial (por ejemplo, ma\u00edz y no maseca) que alivie las dif\u00edciles condiciones en las que resisten todas las guerras que hay en su contra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tampoco podemos hacer grandes movilizaciones, porque no tenemos subvenci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica institucional, y cada movimiento, as\u00ed sea m\u00ednimo o simb\u00f3lico, debemos sufragarlo con nuestra muy limitada econom\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">S\u00ed, lo sabemos.\u00a0 Nos pueden decir ahora la consigna de \u201cEse apoyo no se ve\u201d.\u00a0 Pero nosotras, nosotros, zapatistas, no queremos que se vea, ni que voten por nosotros, ni que se afilien, ni que engrosen la lista de siglas en que suelen convertirse los \u201cfrentes\u201d y \u201c<em>frentotes<\/em>\u201d, ni que nos \u201cpaguen\u201d de cualquier forma.\u00a0 Tampoco exigimos o esperamos \u201creciprocidad\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nosotros, nosotras, zapatistas, s\u00f3lo queremos que las maestras y maestros sientan que los respetamos, que los admiramos y que estamos atentas y atentos, tomando el apunte de las lecciones que est\u00e1n dando.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pensamos que hay que seguir resistiendo.\u00a0 Y hoy, en esta geograf\u00eda y en este calendario, la resistencia lleva el rostro, la decisi\u00f3n y la dignidad del magisterio en rebeld\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para decirlo m\u00e1s claro: para nosotras, nosotros, zapatistas, lo m\u00e1s importante ahora, en este calendario y desde la limitada geograf\u00eda en la que resistimos y luchamos, es la lucha del magisterio democr\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>La lecci\u00f3n de los pueblos originarios.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ojal\u00e1 y se imponga el di\u00e1logo con respeto y verdad, y no como simulaci\u00f3n que esconde los preparativos para nuevos golpes represivos.\u00a0 Ojal\u00e1 se d\u00e9 sin las bravatas y golpes de mesa a las que es tan afecto quien cree que manda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ojal\u00e1 y el grupo gobernante, el gran capital y medios que los acompa\u00f1an y sirven, dejen de estar jugando a arrojar f\u00f3sforos encendidos en la pradera que han secado con sus pol\u00edticas, corrupci\u00f3n y mentiras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ojal\u00e1 y los que est\u00e1n arriba dejen de pensar que la tormenta apagar\u00e1 el fuego que ellos, y nadie m\u00e1s, se empe\u00f1an en avivar.\u00a0 Ojal\u00e1 y alcanzaran a ver que la tempestad terminar\u00e1 por ahogarlos tambi\u00e9n a ellos y que, entonces, no habr\u00e1 columnista de prensa escrita o electr\u00f3nica, ni hashtag, ni red social, ni programa televisivo o radial que les sirva de salvavidas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ojal\u00e1, pero en nuestra experiencia es que no, que no ser\u00e1 as\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ya los pueblos originarios, compa\u00f1eros y hermanos del Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena, lo han puesto claramente al se\u00f1alar que hablamos desde la tempestad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c<em>Desde la tempestad<\/em>\u201d, \u00e9sas han sido las palabras elegidas por nuestras hermanas y hermanos en el dolor, la rabia, la rebeld\u00eda y la resistencia, que se nombran en com\u00fan <strong><em>Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Con s\u00f3lo esas tres palabras, el CNI dio una lecci\u00f3n de calendarios y geograf\u00edas ignoradas por las redes sociales, los medios de paga y libres, y la intelectualidad progresista.\u00a0 Nosotras, nosotros, zapatistas, sentimos que esas palabras tambi\u00e9n eran nuestras y por eso le pedimos al Congreso Nacional Ind\u00edgena firmar conjuntamente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Porque para los pueblos originarios las amenazas, las mentiras, las calumnias, los golpes, la c\u00e1rcel, las desapariciones y los asesinatos, son parte de nuestra cotidianeidad desde hace a\u00f1os, lustros, d\u00e9cadas, siglos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Porque lo que ahora padece el magisterio en resistencia, los pueblos originarios, sus barrios, naciones y tribus, lo venimos sufriendo sin que nadie, como no sea la Sexta, nos voltee a ver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Porque desde hace tiempo, en sus campos, valles y monta\u00f1as, los pueblos originarios miramos y conocimos lo que vendr\u00eda para todos, para todas, para <strong><em>todoas<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Incluso para quien nos mira con desprecio, o como destino de la burla y la limosna (es lo mismo), o como sin\u00f3nimo de la ignorancia y el retraso, incluso para quien, corto de vocabulario e imaginaci\u00f3n, reedita la palabra \u201cindio\u201d como insulto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A todas, a todos, a <strong><em>todoas<\/em><\/strong>, les decimos: si antes no lo vieron, v\u00e9anlo ahora.\u00a0 Al mirar o escuchar lo que hacen en contra de las maestras y maestros, piensen \u201csigo yo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Porque despu\u00e9s de los trabajadores de la educaci\u00f3n b\u00e1sica, siguen los pensionados, los del sector salud, los bur\u00f3cratas, los peque\u00f1os y medianos comerciantes, los transportistas, los universitarios, los de medios de comunicaci\u00f3n, todos los trabajadores del campo y la ciudad, ind\u00edgenas y no ind\u00edgenas, rurales y urbanos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tal vez esta conclusi\u00f3n es a la que llegan las familias que, sin pertenecer a organizaciones, partidos o movimientos, apoyan al magisterio.\u00a0 Es porque se dicen \u201csigo yo\u201d, que se da el respaldo popular a los maestros.\u00a0 No importa qu\u00e9 tanto se retuerza y gesticule Aurelio Nu\u00f1o vociferando que los maestros en resistencia atentan contra esas familias, contra sus hijos.\u00a0 Esas familias apoyan el movimiento magisterial.\u00a0 Y seguir\u00e1n haci\u00e9ndolo, aunque los medios y la maquinaria de paga en las redes sociales se esfuercen, in\u00fatilmente, en hacerse eco de los pobres argumentos que mal visten la represi\u00f3n en marcha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Como si la lecci\u00f3n del abajo, sin rostro ni siglas, fuera: \u201cSi all\u00e1 arriba se agot\u00f3 el tiempo, ac\u00e1 abajo lo que se agot\u00f3 es el miedo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Una decisi\u00f3n dif\u00edcil.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Es el tiempo de las maestras y maestros en resistencia.\u00a0 Es necesario y urgente estar con style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pero nosotros, nosotras, zapatistas, pensamos que es tan importante el apoyo al magisterio, que hemos decidido\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Primero. \u2013 Suspender nuestra participaci\u00f3n en el festival de <strong><em>CompArte<\/em><\/strong>, tanto en el caracol de Oventik, como en el CIDECI de San Crist\u00f3bal de Las Casas, Chiapas, que se celebrar\u00eda entre los d\u00edas 17 y 30 de julio del 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Segundo. \u2013 Donar al magisterio en resistencia la paga y los alimentos que hab\u00edamos ahorrado y acumulado para nuestro traslado a Oventik y al CIDECI, para nuestra manutenci\u00f3n durante el festival, y para el regreso a nuestras comunidades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tercero. \u2013 A l@s 1127 artistas de todos los rincones de M\u00e9xico, y a l@s 318 artistas de otros pa\u00edses (entre los que se cuentan originarios de Am\u00e9rica, Europa, Asia, style=\"text-align: center;\">June\u2019s Lessons.<\/h4>\n<p>July, 2016<\/p>\n<p>Compa\u00f1eras, compa\u00f1eros, compa\u00f1eroas of the Sixth in Mexico and the World:<br \/>\nArtists of the five continents:<br \/>\nTeachers in rebellion:<\/p>\n<p>We send you all [todos, todas, todoas] greetings, from us and the indigenous Zapatista communities. We are writing this letter to tell you about what we have seen and heard this past month of June and to let you know about a decision we Zapatistas have made. Here goes:<\/p>\n<h4>Lessons from Above<\/h4>\n<p>In just the last few weeks of June, we have been given a true educational seminar.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, the character of the Mexican state has been laid bare: as soon as the capitalists snapped their fingers, regarding what is called the \u201cLaw 3 of 3,\u201d the institutional powers scrambled to correct what didn\u2019t please their masters. Not content merely with knowing that they rule, the great lords of money demonstrated, to anyone who wished to see, who really makes the decisions. A handful of masters, in luxury brand suits and ties, came out to the \u00c1ngel de la Independenciai and, to mock its meaning, gave what amounts to a class in modern politics. \u201cWe rule,\u201d they said without speaking, \u201cand we do not like that law. We do not need to sacrifice lives, hold marches, or suffer blows, humiliation, or imprisonment. We don\u2019t even need to show ourselves. If we do so now it is only to remind all of the politicians of their place, both those who are in office and those who aspire to be. And for the lumpen, well, this is just to remind them of the contempt we feel for them.\u201d And then the system\u2019s legal structure (and those who create, implement it, and enforce it) showed its true purpose: within just a few hours, the governmental \u201cinstitutions\u201d fell over themselves apologizing and trying to ease the anger of the gentlemen of money. Like overseers eager to serve their masters, the governing officials prostrated themselves and maneuvered to make the law appropriate to the system\u2019s design. \u201cWe didn\u2019t even read it,\u201d the legislators murmured as they expressed reverence and made servile apologies to their masters.<\/p>\n<p>But when the teachers in resistance and the communities, movements, organizations, and persons who support them demanded the repeal of the education reform (really just a presidential pre-campaign platform for Aurelio\u2019s aspirations to be a police informant), the government and its masters declared that nothing (meaning, the use of force) was off the table in order to defend \u201cthe rule of law.\u201d With a tone more hysterical than historical, they emphasized that the law would not be negotiated. And they made this declaration just a few hours after they bowed before the powers of money\u2026 to negotiate modification of a law.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>They didn\u2019t bother to insist on the arbitrary imposition of an education reform that they haven\u2019t even read. One careful read would be enough to realize that it has nothing to do with education. It never ceases to be pathetic that the political class and the press that accompany them say that they are defending the institutions of law and justice as they shamelessly demonstrate the contrary.<\/p>\n<p>In June, the lesson from above has been clear and cynical: in Mexico, capital rules and the government obeys.<\/p>\n<h4>Lessons from below<\/h4>\n<p>For their part, the teachers gathered under the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE), as well as the families and communities who support them, have also given classes in the streets, roads, and highways of Mexico below.<\/p>\n<p>In just a few weeks, they have dismantled all of the staging put up by the political class over multiple years and with a lot of money, to disguise the new war of conquest, going under the name \u201cPact for Mexico,\u201d which is encapsulated in the so-called \u201cstructural reforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dignified movement of teachers in resistance has also made evident the profound decomposition of the federal, state, and municipal governments. Governmental corruption, inefficiency, and clumsiness can no longer be hidden behind the makeup offered by the servile paid media and social networks, manipulated with the same lack of skill with which they govern.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to manipulate the generalized social \u201cbad mood\u201d and try to redirect it toward the democratic teachers\u2019 union, the governments and paid mass media mounted an impressive (and ineffective) campaign of slander and lies: the poor don\u2019t have gasoline, beer, liquor, sweets, lollipops, sliced bread, or the ground-up corncobs they sell as \u201ccorn flour.\u201d And it\u2019s all the teachers\u2019 fault. Not because they are resisting, but because they are not large property owners.<\/p>\n<p>Here in Chiapas at least, the supposed shortage of gasoline was nothing but the shameless speculation of that sector\u2019s businessmen who knew that the price would go up on Friday and as of Tuesday were circulating the rumor of scarcity on social media. Curiously, at the gas stations, there was only diesel, the price of which wasn\u2019t supposed to go up. The workers said there was in fact fuel, but \u201cthe boss told us to ration it and later to put up signs that there wasn\u2019t any. They also messed with the pumps, so that the liters weren\u2019t really full liters, but less. But that happened before, even when there weren\u2019t blockades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the scarcity of food and perishable products only occurred in the big supermarkets. The neighborhood markets continued to offer fruits, vegetables corn, beans, rice, meat, and eggs without any rise in prices. It\u2019s true that products like bottled soft drinks, cigarettes, beer, and liquor began to run out, in addition to what is commonly known as \u201cjunk food.\u201d<br \/>\nThe \u201cthird party interests\u201d which the government is referring to when it talks about who is affected are none other than the interests of the big businesses of commercial capital.<\/p>\n<p>As the governing officials and media and social network that accompany them were shouting their heads off about the teachers\u2019 movement being only in the poorest states whose social backwardness is, of course, the CNTE\u2019s fault, thousands of teachers in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon took the streets, not once but multiple times, of that former lair of national capital, demanding the education reform be repealed.<\/p>\n<p>When the teachers in resistance decided to open the blockades for individual vehicles, public transportation, water trucks, and local traffic but not to big business, the overseers bellowed furiously, threatening and demanding that the commodities that feed big capital be allowed to pass through instead of the \u201crabble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And in the paid media: extensive coverage of the SEDENA airplanes, used to distribute Maseca (not corn), with which Jos\u00e9 Antonio Meade initiated his pre-campaign to replace Aurelio Nu\u00f1o as presidential pre-candidate. At the same time they buried any news on the Hercules airplanes that transported anti-riot tanks and federal police troops to Chiapas and Oaxaca\u2026 and Guerrero\u2026 and Michoac\u00e1n\u2026 and Tabasco\u2026 and Nuevo Le\u00f3n? Oh the rebellious geography of the rebellion!<\/p>\n<p>No. Those above are not interested in children\u2019s education. Hell, they\u2019re not even interested in the supposed education reform. Neither the lame policeman operating out of the Department of Public Education nor any of the legislators who voted for the reform have read it. And when the teachers insist that this or that article is harmful, those above turn nervously to their advisors and bodyguards, not only because they don\u2019t know what those articles say, but because they don\u2019t know what the word \u201charmful\u201d means. The only thing that matters to them is to get into the line of succession, to see who will get the presidential nomination for the PRI or any of the other parties.<\/p>\n<p>But despite threats, blows, prison, and the outrageous massacre in Nochixtl\u00e1n, Oaxaca, the teachers resist. But now they are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>While what was expected was that after being threatened, the number of people at the blockades and encampments would diminish, instead what happened was that\u2026 more teachers arrived\u2026 and people from all of the barrios, neighborhoods, villages, and communities!<\/p>\n<p>That was how the teachers in rebellion and the people who support them concluded their free public seminar this month of June, giving us the most comprehensive lesson: in Mexico capital rules and the government obeys\u2026 but the people rebel.<\/p>\n<h4>The most important thing<\/h4>\n<p>When we Zapatistas say that we respect a movement, that\u2019s what we mean: we respect it. That means that we don\u2019t meddle in their schedules and ways of doing things, in their organizational structure, in their decisions, strategies, tactics, alliances, and decisions. All of that corresponds to the discernment and decision of those who make up that movement.<\/p>\n<p>Whether they vote or not, ally with political parties or not, dialogue or not, negotiate or not, come to an agreement or not, whether they are believers or atheists, skinny or fat, tall or short, pretty or ugly, mestizo or indigenous, we support them because their struggle is just. And our support, though perhaps small, is unconditional. That is, we don\u2019t expect anything in return.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, because of our essence as the EZLN, most of the time our support can\u2019t go beyond our words, and more than a few times has to be silent. With regard to the teachers in resistance\u2014they have enough accusations and pressures already leveraged against them to add on that they are being \u201cmanaged\u201d or \u201cinfiltrated\u201d by political-military organizations.<\/p>\n<p>So let it be known across the entire political spectrum: everything achieved by the teachers in resistance is and has been their own effort, their decision, and their perseverance. It is the teachers themselves who have explained their struggle, who have spoken in community assemblies, in barrios and neighborhoods, and who have been able to convince. In contrast to other mobilizations, the teachers turned to look below, to direct their gaze, ear, and word below. It is their resistance that has convoked such a broad range of support. At least that is the case in Chiapas. Instead of slander or conspiracy theories, the government intelligence (ha!) services, as well as the media that feed off of them, should take lessons from the teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Our economic limitations (product of our rebellious resistance, not of teachers\u2019 blockades), impedes us, at this point, from sending something substantial (for example, corn and not Maseca) to the teachers and the communities that support them to alleviate the difficult conditions in which they resist all of the wars waged against them.<\/p>\n<p>We also can\u2019t hold large mobilizations because we don\u2019t have institutional economic subsidies, and our every movement, however minimal or symbolic, must be funded by our very limited economy.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, we know. You can chant to us \u201cwe don\u2019t see your support.\u201d But we Zapatistas aren\u2019t trying to be seen, or trying to get votes, or affiliations, or trying to get on the list of acronyms that tend to become \u201cfronts\u201d or \u201cbroad fronts,\u201d nor are we trying to get paid in one form or another. We also do not demand or expect \u201creciprocity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We Zapatistas only want the teachers to know that we respect them, that we admire them, and that we are attentive and taking notes on the lessons they are giving.<\/p>\n<p>We think resistance should continue. And today, in this geography and calendar, resistance carries the face, the determination, and the dignity of the teachers in rebellion.<\/p>\n<p>To say it more clearly: for us Zapatistas, the most important thing on this calendar and in the very limited geography from which we resist and struggle, is the struggle of the democratic teachers\u2019 union.<\/p>\n<h4>The lesson from the originary peoples<\/h4>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope that dialogue is held with respect and truth, and not as a simulation that hides preparations for a new wave of repression. Let\u2019s hope that dialogue takes place without the bravado and table pounding so characteristic of he who thinks he rules.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope that the governing class, big capital, and the media that accompany and serve them stop playing with matches, lighting them and throwing them onto a prairie it has dried up with its own policies, corruption, and lies.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope that those above stop thinking that the storm will put out the fire that they, and no one else, try to stoke. Let\u2019s hope that they manage to see that the storm will end up drowning them too and that then there will be no columnist of the written or electronic press, no hashtag or social network, no television or radio program that can save them.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope so, but in our experience, no, that will not happen.<\/p>\n<p>The originary peoples, compa\u00f1eros and brothers of the National Indigenous Congress have said clearly that we are speaking from within the storm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom within the storm,\u201d these were the words chosen by our sisters and brothers in pain, rage, rebellion, and resistance who go under the name National Indigenous Congress (CNI). With just those three words, the CNI gave a lesson on the calendars and geographies ignored by social networks, by the paid and free press, and by the progressive intellectual class. We Zapatistas felt that those words were also ours, and that is why we asked the National Indigenous Congress that we sign jointly.<\/p>\n<p>Because for the originary peoples, threats, lies, slander, beatings, prison, disappearance, and murder have been part of our daily life for years, decades, centuries.<\/p>\n<p>Because what the teachers in resistance are suffering now, the originary peoples, in their barrios, nations, and tribes, have long suffered without anyone\u2014anyone who isn\u2019t part of the Sixth\u2014noticing.<\/p>\n<p>Because for a while now, the originary peoples, from their countrysides, valleys, and mountains, have seen and known what was coming for everyone [todos, todas, todoas]. That includes those who look at us with disdain, or as a target of mockery and charity (same thing), or as a synonym for ignorance and backwardness. That includes those who, short on vocabulary and imagination, reissued the word \u201cindian\u201d as an insult.<\/p>\n<p>To all, todos, todas, todoas, we say: if you didn\u2019t see it before, look now. Upon seeing or hearing about what they are doing to the teachers, think \u201cI\u2019m next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because after the elementary education workers will come the pensioners, those in the health sectors, the bureaucrats, the small- and medium-sized businesses, the transportation workers, the university workers, those working in media, all of the workers of the countryside and city, indigenous and non-indigenous, rural and urban.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps this will be the conclusion of the families who, without belonging to organizations, parties, or movements, support the teachers. Maybe it is because they know \u201cI\u2019m next\u201d that they lend so much popular support to the teachers. It doesn\u2019t matter how much Aurelio Nu\u00f1o writhes and gesticulates proclaiming that the teachers in resistance are a threat to those families and their children. Those families support the teachers\u2019 movement. And they will continue to do so, even while the media and the paid machinery of the social networks endeavor, in futility, to echo the poor arguments that badly conceal the repression underway.<\/p>\n<p>It is as if the lesson from below, without a face or an acronym, was: \u201cIf what has run out above is time, what has run out here below is fear.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>A difficult decision<\/h4>\n<p>This is the time of the teachers in resistance. It is necessary and urgent to be with them.<br \/>\nOver long months and in extremely difficult conditions, the Zapatista bases of support have prepared, practiced, and created artistic expressions that, perhaps, would surprise some [uno, una, unoa] for the CompArte festival.<\/p>\n<p>But we Zapatistas think that supporting the teachers is so important that we have decided\u2026<br \/>\nFirst: To suspend our participation in the CompArte festival, in the caracol of Oventik as well as in CIDECI in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, which will be held July 17-30, 2016.<br \/>\nSecond: To donate all of the money and food we have saved for our transportation to and from Oventik and CIDECI and for provisions while we are there to the teachers in resistance.<\/p>\n<p>Third: To the 1,127 artists from every corner of Mexico, to the 318 artists from other countries (including originary peoples from the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania) registered for CompArte, we give our sincere apologies and ask for your understanding. We know that the neither the expense nor the effort you have made are small, in addition to adjusting your schedules in order to be able to come and share your creations with us Zapatistas. We hope that what is now suspended can be later celebrated. We hope that you understand that it is an ethical assessment that has led us to this decision. We analyzed each and every one of our options and arrived at the conclusion, erroneous or not, that this is the way to support the struggle of the teachers and their communities. We are not willing to be strike-breakers or to dispute the limelight the teachers have won with pain and rage.<\/p>\n<p>We respectfully ask that you, in accordance with your ways, times, and abilities, raise your art up with the teachers in resistance, in their activities, encampments, marches, rallies, and wherever the National Coordination of Education Workers and your artistic expressions deem appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>We also ask the compa\u00f1eroas of the Sixth to create, in line with their calendars, geographies, and abilities, the spaces and conditions for the Arts and their irreverent challenge to imagine other worlds, in order to celebrate humanity, its pains, its joys, and its struggles. Because that and only that is the objective of Comparte.<\/p>\n<p>We Zapatistas will be in our places, attentive to what happens, to what is said and what is not said. Who advises them? The same people who told them they would win in the state elections, that Brexit wouldn\u2019t happen and that, once the vote was in, the impact would be minor, that the machine works so well it practically purrs? Or the businessmen hidden behind the \u201cMexicanos Primero\u201dii campaign? Well, if these are the minds that made the education reform, there you have an example of their great capacity for \u201canalysis.\u201d Did they tell them that Oaxaca was a kind of cheese? That Chiapas is the name of the ranch belonging to the Velascos, the Sabines, the Albores? That Guerrero\u2019s border is the Sol highway and the hotel zones? That what must be protected in Michoac\u00e1n is the Monarch butterfly? That nothing is happening in Nuevo Leon? That Tabasco is an Eden? Well, it turns out that they are getting lessons on national geography: Oaxaca\u2019s last name is \u201cindomitable\u201d; Chiapas is the cradle of the EZLN, where the twenty-first century came early, where the end of the world was announced (the end of their world), and where culture, science, and art shout out what the media silences; Guerrero (and the entire country) are named Ayotzinapa; in Michoac\u00e1n there is a place called Cher\u00e1n and another called Ostula, and in all of the cardinal points there is a below that doesn\u2019t give up, that doesn\u2019t give in, and that doesn\u2019t sell out. If the education reform isn\u2019t modified, they should at least modify their advisors.
